The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that the unemployment rate in the country in on the rise.

Unemployment in Nigeria - Naij.com's guest author Hassani Obaro wonders why Nigerians face unemployment under the condition of labour shortage.

The NBS in a report released yesterday in Abuja, said the unemployment rate in the second quarter of the year rose to 8.2 per cent from the 7.5 per cent rate it was in the preceding quarter.

The recent rise was the consecutive jump in unemployment rate since the third quarter of last year.

Analysis of unemployment rate revealed that the working age, comprising persons within the age of 15 to 64, increased to 103.5 million in the Q2 up from 102.8 million in the first quarter.

The Bureau disclosed that the labour force population, which includes those within the working age, who are willing, and actively looking for work, increased to 74.0 million in Q2 from 73.4 million in Q1, indicating an increase in the labour force by 0.81 per cent.
Which means, 574,498 economically active persons aged between 15 and 64 joined the labour market during the quarter under review.

The agency blamed the decline in the number of full employment to job losses or previously fully-employed persons, choosing or being forced to work part-time.

The report revealed that the economically active population or working age population, which are persons within ages 15 to 64, increased from 102.8 million in the first quarter to 103.5 million in the second quarter of this year.

Please be rest assured that more employments are rolling out soon nationwide. Keep good fate. Follow this link for daily job posts

Years ago, Google had to take serious measures to protect their trademark so that the search engine name would not become generic. That way, when you say you google a word, you are specifically referring to ‘Google’ as the search engine used in finding out information about the word online rather than other search engines.

In Lagos, a lot of products and brand names have become generic names of other similar products and are not used to refer to a single product again. This is either because of the popularity of that product or perhaps the product is the first of its kind.

Here are 5 brand names that are now being used as general product names in Lagos

1. Maggi

To most sellers and buyers in Lagos, Maggi is the name of all seasonings. Tell a market woman you want to buy Maggi and she’ll ask you: ‘Which one? Meaning which type of ‘Maggi’ do you want. Maggi is however the name of a particular brand of seasoning but has now become a general product name amongst trades and their customers.

2. Indomie

Who goes to a trader in a market and request for noodles? The seller is sure to give you a questioning look or even tell you the product is not being sold there. Instead the adopted name is Indomie which is a popular brand of noodles, but has now transcended that particular product to other noodles.

3. Gala

Gala is a very popular sausage in Lagos but is now becoming ‘generated’ to represent every brand of sausage. Hawkers of the products advertise them as Gala and you need to specify the brand of ‘Gala’ that you want.

4. Viju

Viju is a brand of milk drink that comes in different flavours. It is however fast becoming a generic name for other plastic milk drinks in Lagos. Viju is arguably the first of its kind and the name is now synonymous to other brands of the product.

5. Flit

insecticide

Flit is an old brand of insecticide and the product is almost non-existence in Lagos but the name ‘Flit’ is now being used to refer to all brands of insecticides and most people don’t even know it’s a brand name. it is now a genericeised name of the product.

This aim of this article is to explore the Lagos market and point out popular names of brand. It is not meant to promote a particular brand or pass a judgement on the use of generic names of products but rather to bring attention to what is already in existence.

Just 19 days after their wedding in August 2014, Justice Stamper was nearly killed when she was rear-ended by another vehicle in a ghastly car accident. Around a month after the accident, she told her husband Jeremy that she could not remember their wedding.

A heartbroken Jeremy vowed to recreate the big day for his wife and on Saturday August 1st, they tied the knot once again, exactly one year after their first wedding.

The couple, from Tennessee, USA, were helped to raise the money for the wedding by donations to a fundraising page Jeremy set up. He said they had honeymooned in the Smokey Mountains in the southeastern US before the crash, which happened as Justice drove to meet him after work.

“She was yielding to oncoming traffic to turn left on a side road when she was rear-ended at a dead stop at about 50mph,” he wrote. “She was nearly killed in the impact but by the grace of God she survived. About a month after the accident she finally told me. She said ‘I don’t want you to be mad…but I do not remember the wedding. I was heart broken and instantly said I would do it all again for her.”

The couple were married at Hungry Mother State Park in southwestern Virginia on this past weekend.

Family / Woman Defends Family, Stabs Robber To Death by Stoja: 11:05pm On Aug 02, 2015
http://www.thelivefeeds.com/bravery-woman-defends-family-stabs-robber-to-death/

A middle-aged woman is presently recovering in a hospital, after she was attacked by robbers in her apartment on Lagos Island, during which she stabbed one of them to death.

The woman, identified as Adenike, and her family were attacked on Tuesday at about 2am on Eyin Iga Street.

According to The Punch, the robbers, who were armed with knives and cutlasses, reportedly gained access to the house after damaging the gates.

It was gathered that when the robbers got to Adenike’s apartment, a struggle ensued between Adenike and one of the robbers, identified as Quadri Iginla, who cut her with a knife. Adenike was said to have wrenched the knife from Iginla, and stabbed him in the stomach.

The robbery suspect reportedly lost balance and fell off from the two-storey building. Neighbours, who learnt of the robbery, were said to have alerted the police from the Adeniji Adele Division. The other suspected robbers reportedly escaped after the police got to the area.

The policemen were said to have rushed Iginla, who was unconscious, to the Lagos Island General Hospital, while Adenike was also taken by her family to a private hospital.

Iginla died in the hospital on Thursday The Punch reports.

Adenike’s husband, who refused to give his name when speaking with The Punch, said: “We cannot confirm the number of the robbers. They entered my apartment at about 2am. One of them injured my wife in the hand and there was a struggle. As this went on, other people called the police and a patrol van was sent to our street.

“The robbers quickly fled from the house. One of them, who had sustained a knife injury, fell off the staircases. The policemen took him to a hospital for treatment.”

A police source said that Iginla was not attended to at the general hospital due to lack of a vacant bed, adding that he died at a health center on the Adeniji Adele road.

However the knife has been recovered, while the case had been transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation.

DSP Patricia Amadin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, has confirmed the incident. She said the command is on the trail of the other gang members.

Crime / INCREDIBLE! Women Tie ‘juju’ Around Poles To Scare PHCN Officials (PHOTOS) by Stoja: 1:48pm On Jul 30, 2015
Some women in a community in Niger state have reportedly threatened officials of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) with charms.

This is coming as the power company has refused to provide them with electricity supply for months, and disconnecting them anytime they want.
The women in Guaraka community in Tafa local government area of Niger State, according to Pulse, have now taken the fight to the officials by tying charms and ‘juju’ on electric poles, daring the PHCN officials to climb the poles.

It was also gathered that while the men asked for patience to resolve the feud, the women of the community decided to protest the situation and apply diabolical means to settle the score once and for all as they would not have any of the previous anomalies by the body.
