Birth Story! Wednesday 7th feb was my clinic day. I was 38wks 5days. There was no sign of labour, evem though baby had turned since 33 wks. Dr. & i agreed that if nothing happned, i'll be induced at my next visit in one week, as the baby's estimated weight was already 3.2kg. By 12.33am on Thursday 8th of Feb I woke up with intense pain that spread from my abdomen to lower back. It was like my waist was being pulled from my body. The pain got progressively worse and I started pacing. By 3am I packed my dirty clothes to go and wash. I just needed to keep my mind off the pain. Dh refused to allow me wash at that 'ungodly hour' & i retorted that i would never forgive him (me that I hate washing fa). By 5am I called my clinic and was asked to come in immediately. I was checked at 8am and dilation was 4cm The pain was nothing like I've felt before. I called my sister and had her rub my back when the contractions hit. Initially it helped with the pain, at some point it became useless. I did not scream but would hit my head on the wall and crush my sister's hand or shoulder in my hands. I was checked again at 12noon & was 6cm. I started crying in frustration. Finally, at around 5pm I reached 10cm. The 'checks' were painfully uncomfortable. If I was not in so much pain, I would even call it humiliating. They had to break my water as it was still intact. I started pushing as directed but the baby just wasnt coming down. I was told my cervix was still high up. At some point, the baby's head will descend painfully slow and then go back up when I stop pushing. It didn't help that I had to contend with two hands high up my vagina. I kept hearing do it for your baby, push your baby out!!!. I gathered all my strength and pushed. Still nothing. I was tired and out of breath. And I was scared too. I had been in labour for about 16hours. I sent for my husband & told him I wanted to be taken to the theatre. He sad no, unless the doctor advises it. My sister, who was with me in the labour room all through said no. The midwife said I will deliver 'Hebrew woman'. My mum started crying and praying. Only my father gave his unequivocal yes. In his words 'why is she not in the theatre already?' Long story short, I was prepped and taken in to surgery and I heard my princess' cry a few minutes later. In all, surgery took like 45 minutes and I was awake all through. Two fibroids were discovered and taken out during the surgery. I don't know which is worse, the labour pains or the post cs pains. And to have to go through both of them at one try! With the benefit of hindsight, I would have just gone for elective CS. In all I'm thankful, I am here and my angel is here with me. That is all that matters. Congrats to all mamas that have birthed their LOs, safe delivery to remaining mamas BS submitted Cc #TeamFebruary cappo @Lioha 56 Likes |
