Phones / NIN REGISTRATION: Federal Government Takes Fresh Measure by storypoet(m): 10:17am On Mar 03, 2021
The Federal Government has approved the establishment of Sim swap centres by Mobile Network Operators, MNOs, across the local government areas of the country.

The approval was disclosed during a meeting of the ministerial Task Force on the NIN-SIM registration chaired by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami.

According to Story Poet, reference https://storypoet.com/nin-registration-federal-government-takes-fresh-measure/

During the meeting, the federal government also approved the extension of the tenure of National Identity Number, NIN, enrolment Agent Licenses for MNOs from 1 to 5 years.

A statement jointly signed by Ikechukwu Adinde, Kayode Adegoke, Director, Public Affairs Head, Corporate Communications, Nigerian Communications Commission and Nigeria Identify Management Commission, respectively, said the steps were to simplify the enrolment process for agents of NIN.

The statement reads partly: “A number of resolutions were taken at the meeting, including the following: Approval was given to MNOs for the establishment of dedicated SIM Swap Centres across the Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Nigeria.

“Approval was given for the extension of the tenure of NIN Enrolment Agent Licenses for MNOs from 1 to 5 years in consideration of their satisfactory performance, subject to continuous monitoring.

“This is a deliberate effort of the Federal Government to simplify the enrollment process for Nigerians and legal residents.

“The Technical Committee was mandated to complete the development of a new SIM issuance strategy that cannot be compromised. This will ensure that there is no repeat of the past process that was compromised through pre-registration by some agents.

“A Multi-Sectoral Adhoc Committee was tasked to immediately complete the review of the processes for new SIM activation for legal residents staying in Nigeria for less than 24 months. The membership of the Committee was drawn from NCC, NIMC, Nigeria Immigration Service and the Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON).

“Furthermore, MNOs that already have Service Centres in important and critical locations in LGAs, are expected to upgrade these Centres to a level where they can qualify as SIM Swap Centres in order to reduce the challenges associated with the SIM Swap/Replacement process for the citizens.

“The purpose is to bring SIM Swap Centres closer to Nigerians regardless of their location.”

Politics / Herders-farmers Crisis Could Lead To Civil War If We Don’t Act — Soyinka by storypoet(m): 11:41pm On Feb 06, 2021
Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has warned that a civil war could break out from the conflict between herders and local communities across the country if the issue is not addressed correctly.

His statement comes amidst tensions in recent weeks over allegations that herders are responsible for killings and abductions in the south-west.

Recall that the governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, had ordered herders to leave the state’s forest reserves.

In the same vein, Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, asked herders to leave Ibarapa local government area of Oyo, where attacks also occurred.

In a recent chat with BBC Pidgin, Soyinka said there was a need to ensure that the matter is settled amicably.

“I fear that it could degenerate into violence that ends up in—I hate to use the word—a civil war unless we take action. I’m glad that governors are already dialoguing with Miyetti Allah groups (cattle breeders).

“I’m also glad that they’re already discussing agreeing to obey the rules and that other groups are already liaising. We need to ensure they reach a consensus that will be fair to all parties.

“We’re struggling against an enemy that believes in acting the way they please. They believe they have immunity or that nothing can happen to them. That is why, in my state, you find a soldier taking the side of an enemy.

“They escort killers, rapists, raiders while flogging the victims. That wouldn’t happen if the people are conscious of the nature of their enemy and are encouraged to collaborate with the security forces.”

Soyinka stated that he once observed the level of damage done to farmlands by herders while hunting with his colleagues.

He emphasized the need to encourage increased co-operation between the locals and security forces towards ending the crisis.

Politics / Enugu Commissioner, Mathias Ekweremadu Is Dead by storypoet(m): 10:21am On Feb 05, 2021
STORY POET learnt that he slumped at the Enugu State House of Assembly, from where he was rushed to the Niger Foundation Hospital.

However, the commissioner, a younger brother to former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu didn’t make it.

Before his current appointment as a Commissioner in 2019, Ekweremadu, represented Aninri state Constituency at the State House of Assembly.

He was also chairman of Aninri Local Government at some point.

A source hinted that he was holding meeting with the House of Assembly Committee on Transport, led by its chairman, Hillary Ugwu (Enugu East Rural).

Midway into the meeting, Ekweremadu complained that he was not usually comfortable sitting close to the AC.

“Gentlemen, you know one is not getting any younger. We the elderly ones don’t usually feel good sitting close to the AC,” the source quoted him as saying.

“At that moment, the chairman of the Committee ordered that he should be given another seat away from AC.

“Immediately he changed his seat, he thanked the committee especially the person that brought the seat,” the source noted.

“Thank you, thank you,” Ekweremadu muttered in what became his last words before he slumped.

He was eventually rushed to the Niger Foundation hospital where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.

Literature / Dreams At Noon by storypoet(m): 1:37pm On Feb 06, 2019
This is my favorite poem published on www.storypoet.com

DREAMS AT NOON

My eyes turned red
Like a flaming charcoal
Fanned by a directionless wind
I was the oven
That bore the heat
All of me
It was as if I was going to burn
Anyone who touched me
So they withdrew
Like a swift snail that sensed the thorn

But fire coming out of my eyes carried
Dreams at noon
Dreams that refused to be robbed
By darkness of the night
They bulged out into the light of day

I first trod with wobbly feet
I poured water to cool off the heat
But the heat refused to die
I poured water over and over again
Till the water became a flood
Which I had to navigate through
To plant my feet on a dry land
Then my eyes opened
To the reality
That dreams are meant to be lived
Then shall it stop burning

The fire in my eyes became my compass
It lit the way
I followed
And my feet never stumbled again

Literature / Set Smart Writing Goals With The Following Tips by storypoet(m): 12:28am On Jan 07, 2019
At the beginning of each year, businesses and private individuals make resolutions or set goals for the year. As a writer, you are in a serious business. So I expect you to set smart writing goals for the year.

If you are want to be a professional writer and you really want to set smart writing goals, I expect that your overall goal will reflect the following activities.

Write Everyday
Read Everyday (materials in your field)
Rehearse
Publish a book
Qualities of a Great writing Goal

Specific:
Your writing goal should be something you see and understand at a glance. Your goal should not be something like: I want to write well. I want to write many things.

That is a bad goal. make your goals to be specific like: I will write 2 novels this year. You can go further to write the titles of the novels you want to write and a short description of the story line.

Attainable
Your goal should be something you can do. If your goal is too big that you cannot attain it, it is not a goal. Don’t say, I will write and publish one hundred books this year.

Mesurable
Make sure that your goal shows a clear difference between when it is met and when it is not met. It will help you know the progress recorded on your goal attainment.

Time-Bound
Every smart writing goal is time-bound. that is, it is your goal must be linked to a specific time when you expect to achieve them. It is a great thing to say, I will write and publish one novel this year. It is another great thing to say, I Will start writing from January. I expect to finish writing by June. I will edit and Publish in the second half of the year.

Similarly, you can break down the goal to smaller sizes.

Relevant
I believe this is the main thing. If you want to set smart writing goals, your goals must center on writing. D’ont set goals outside writing when you are actually a writer. You are a writer but you are setting goals on how to buy paint brush. Are you a painter? What are we going to call that?

After you have set smart writing goals, please make sure that you do the following:

Write regularly
Read related materials in your field. Every writer is a researcher.
Make sure that at the end of a given period you will have something great to show.
You have known how to set smart writing goals now. okay. I hope you also know how to generate a good story to write. Click here to get a good story and start writing.

Literature / A Maiden's New Year (poem) by storypoet(m): 1:47am On Jan 01, 2019
The season arrived again In its busy wind Clashing bud against bud In its fury movement I have likewise been shaken by the season ‘Cause I salute the young year with my shrill cry With a river of tears Drowning my maiden face like the Titanic How will I suckle a baby in my virgin breast? Fatherless child of a living father How will I bear my shame to Mama Who is my baby fatther Solo? Jerry? Jeff? I was their season’s ride Solo first tore my innocence That cold night, my back was on the rustic grass His strength above me Danced the melody of crickets And the moon above us was the torch bearer His thrusts soaked me in a pool of blood and tears While his promises were a heavy Downpour in a harmatarn night I will buy you motor I will buy you chocolate I will buy you an elephant Promises my eyes never met It was a painful pleasure That turned me into an Oliver Twist And Jerry’s bait caught me And likewise did I find my back on the grass For Jeff It all did not exceed the seventh day And I drowned in my own pool of shame

Literature / How To Generate A Story To Write by storypoet(m): 11:39pm On Dec 22, 2018
HOW TO GENERATE A STORY TO WRITE
December 18, 2018 - by Ani SP
Do you want to write a story but you don't know how to generate a story and how to start writing it? Do you admire story writers but think you are not talented enough to write? Have you been looking for an experienced writer who can lead you through a step by step process of story writing? If you fall into one of the above caregories, then this article is for you.
There are people who are born story writers. There are also other people who are made story writers. Story writing is a skill, and every skill can be acquired. So anyone who desires to write can learn how to write from an experienced writer.
Story writing starts with ideation. This is the most important part of story writing because it is where you generate the story to write. Every story is crafted around a topic or theme. The theme is the central idea. However, in this article I am going to assume that you already know the literary terms and their meanings. But if you have not familiarized yourself with the literary terms you can click here to read them up.
Let us go straight to how to generate a publishable story. Draw your seat closer for what is coming will interest you. The foundation and most challenging part of story writing is the ideation stage which I already discussed above. There are many sources or many things you think are potential stories everywhere, but to get a publishable story can be difficult. I have therefore come up with three sources through which you can generate a story to write.
THREE SOURCES OF STORY
1. Personal experience
2. Story told by other people ( virgin stories only)
3. Vision and dreams
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
You can see a publishable story in what you experienced. What you experienced can be categorised into what you saw, what you felt, and what you tasted. For a wanna-be story writer, the easiest way to generate a story is through your personal experience. Here you can describe what you personally experienced better than when somebody is telling you the story. You feel one with the story you are writing, the scene and characters, because you saw it happen. You have first hand information pertaining to your story.
To turn your experiences into a
fiction, all you need to do is create fictitious characters to impersonate characters in your real-life experience. Then apply a small creative skill on the story so that whoever reads it will know it is really a creative work, and not a literal report of a real-life incident.
For instance, you were in a scene where two young men fought over a young lady. You watched it. You helped seperate the fight. You saw the verbal and nonverbal expressions of the two young men and the young lady too. You listened to them explain how it all started and what each person wanted. Having all these data, your story is almost written. Just go home and start writing. You can create other scenes but most importantly the scene you witnessed must feature in the story. That makes you one with or emotionally connected with the story you are writing. There you have the opportunity of describing how Mr A weilded a bottle, broke it on his own head and used the jagged piece to stab Mr B. Mr B cried out…writhed in pain…and so on. You have to start from somewhere.
SOMEONE CAN TELL YOU A VIRGIN STORY
Similarly, someone can tell you an interesting story that has never been written by someone else. It could come from your elders or even from a younger one. Unlike personal experience, you did not witness the incident. You are getting the data from an eye witness. It could even be a story passed from generation to generation. You have to be a writer to see a publishable story in the story you heard. Or at least you must have been scouting for a story before you can catch the creative part of the story you heard.
YOU CAN GET A STORY IN A VISION OR DREAM
This source is highly pertinent to people who are born writers, or at least people who have effectively developed the creative writing skill. Those two set of people can communicate with what I can the angel of creativity. You may call it the muse. If you believe that there is a spirit that controls everything, you should also believe with me that my angel of creativity controls creative endeavors. This is a guide that can come to you in your dream to give you story(ies) to write. I know this because the angel of creativity gave me SOMEONE SOMEWHERE in a dream. I published Someone Somewhere in 2018. And after writing BEHIND THE MASK, I was searching for a better title for the book when the angel of creativity came and showed me Behind the Mask. And I have always been in a constant communion with this angel of creativity.
Some times, the story here can come in form of a flash of inspiration. You just see it in your mind’s eye. You just feel yiu should write it.
If you seriously want to get a story to write, dont ignore the above sources. I hope this article has helped you. Be kind to give me your feedback in the comment box below. I expect to see you write a story soon.
