Ah, the irony of pregnancy: You’re constantly ravenous (if you’re not nauseated), yet you can’t eat what you want. As if the indignity of constipation, heartburn, and stretch marks weren’t enough. Coffee? Questionable. Deli meats? Suspect. Sushi? So long, old friend.

Some of this restriction is simply due to an abundance of caution, says Deb Gowen, a certified nurse midwife who’s worked in Boston hospitals for three decades. Because many of these foods and drinks haven’t been extensiver to advise pregnant women to avoid them.

But while a naughty sip of alcohol at a wedding or an all-important morning coffee probably isn’t going to totally derail your pregnancy, it might leave some nagging worries in the back of your head. “Know your risk tolerance,” says Gowen. “Examine who you are. If you think you’re going to look back and wonder if [something you ate] hurt your baby, don’t do it.”

As such, I lived like a nun during my first pregnancy. This time around (yep, I've got another bun in the oven), I’m treating my welt-ridden stretch marks with the occasional Tylenol or Benadryl (bliss). I’ll have a sip of wine at a dinner party. And I have even—gasp!—enjoyed an Italian sub at a reputable deli.

Alcohol

In the first and third trimesters especially, says Gowen, fetal defects can occur. “Why risk it?” she says. “There are enough non-alcoholic drinks out there.” Plenty of her clients enjoyed happy hour before knowing they were pregnant, but once you do know, it’s just simpler to err on the side of caution.

The fix: Drink a new indulgence when you’d normally uncork the booze, so that it feels like an (innocent) treat after a long day. Things every virgin should know: The other day we were informed about a young man who didn’t lose his virginity until he was in his 20s and created a website on which he writes really obvious — but also valuable — relationship and sex advice for guys who are inexperienced with women. Men need only a normal amount of testosterone to feel like having sex. The raised levels in the morning means most men will wake up two to three times a week with erections.

Men Can—And Do—Fake Orgasms
In the case study that inspired the book, one man came to Morgentaler complaining that he didn't know how to stop faking orgasms with his girlfriend. He hadn't been able to climax during intercourse for most of his life, but since he really cared about his new girlfriend, he'd resorted to faking it so that she wouldn't get offended. Shocked? He's not the only one. "As this book was being written and I was talking to people about it, it was astonishing to me how many men said they've faked it in their lives," says Morgentaler. So what about the matter of, um, evidence? If you're using a condom, you probably wouldn't know if he disposed of it pretty quickly. "If you're not using a condom, it's often a question of how much fluid is down there and how aware is the woman," says Morgentaler.

A Male Orgasm Doesn't Always Come with Evidence
Seriously! In some cases, men can actually orgasm without ejaculating, says Morgentaler. In some men with diabetes, the opening to the bladder doesn't close well, and the fluid can go back into the bladder (it's released when they urinate after sex). Another slightly more common example is older men who have had a radical prostatectomy. And although Morgentaler isn't totally sure about this one, people who practice tantric sex often believe that men can experience an orgasm without ejaculating.

They Fake it for the Same Reasons Women Fake It
According to most of the men Morgentaler has treated, the primary reason for faking it was because it just wasn't going to happen for them during sex (which is also one of the reasons women fake orgasms). Maybe he's had too much drink, he's feeling anxious, or he's on medications for anxiety or depression that make it harder to orgasm. "It's almost the same as what happens with women," says Morgentaler. "It's a way of saying to their partner that they still did a good job, everything's fine, and it's enough for now." Jenn Tisdale, 33, is used to doing bold things that might make other women cringe—after all, she’s a comedian who’ll do whatever it takes to get laughs when she’s onstage. But the gutsiest thing she’s done by far? Responding to an open casting call from porn star James Deen back in September.

Deen posted the announcement that he was looking for a woman to film a sex scene with him via Twitter (the person he was supposed to shoot it with had canceled on him). So when she heard back from Deen’s model coordinator, she asked her co-workers if they thought she should do it. Their unanimous answer? Yes. Not only were they curious about what really goes on at a porn shoot, but they also thought the experience would make for a great story.

“I had no desire to do porn,” says Tisdale. “But it was more about who was asking to have sex than my interest in porn. If I saw [Deen] on the street, I’d be interested in sleeping with him.”

Before she could do that, though, Tisdale had to go through STD testing and background screening. A couple of weeks later, it was go time—although Tisdale had known from the start that she would write about what it was like to sleep with Deen. “Honestly, I wrote about it because it’s something I would want to read,” says Tisdale.

The new update is chock-full of changes, improvements and new features that are designed to add to a device’s usefulness and functionality.

Your iPhone will look and feel different with the iOS 10 software update.

It will be easier to move around and do more without switching apps, but the changes will take getting used to. The changes are the most dramatic since 2013, when Apple redesigned icons and introduced functions with swipes from various edges. Now, new things happen when you swipe, and you can handle more tasks from the lock screen.

If you aren’t prompted for the free update, go to “Software Update” under “General” in the settings.

Once you get it, here are some things to know about using it.

New gestures: Swiping up from the bottom edge still gets you the Control Center with quick access to the flashlight, airplane mode and other frequent functions. But it’s now split into multiple screens.

Once Control Center is open, swipe to the left to get audio and video controls. Swipe left once more to control lights and other accessories through Apple’s HomeKit automation system.

From the lock screen, you used to be able to access the camera by pulling up from the bottom right corner. Now, you swipe left from the right edge.

Swiping down from the top edge still gets you recent notifications, but your widgets and calendars have moved. Now, you get those by swiping right from the left edge. Those widgets join app and news recommendations that were already there.

Automatic lock screen: The screen now turns on automatically when you lift your phone. You can do much more from the lock screen, such as viewing a photo from a friend or listening to a voice message.

Tapping the home button with fingerprint ID will unlock the phone, but won’t necessarily get you the home screen. It will allow greater access to messages and other notifications from the lock screen, but you need to press the home button again to get to all your apps.

Communications: The Messages app has been redesigned to offer more expression options. After you type your message, hold the blue “up” arrow.

You can give the message a “loud” effect, so that it briefly appears huge to the recipient. “Invisible ink” hides the message until the recipient rubs a finger over it. (It’s not meant for security, though, as there’s no extra pass code once the phone is unlocked.)

If you’re sending a message to an Android phone or an iPhone without iOS 10, the recipient won’t see the desired effect, but rather a note such as “sent with Loud Effect.”

You can send animated doodles (hit the heart icon) and handwritten notes (turn your screen horizontally), though recipients without compatible phones will see a static image.
Meanwhile, if someone sends you a link, you’ll see a preview rather than a link, similar to how it appears on Facebook feeds.
