Music/Radio / Phyno Embarassed On Stage, Fails To Receive Gold Trophy For ‘fada Fada’ Win by sultan457: 11:55am On Dec 23, 2016 |
It was an embarrassment for Phyno, as the rapper failed to pick up any gold trophy at the Headies 2016. The show which held on December 23, 2016, at the Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotels & Suites, had a very low turnout of celebrities. Their absence was glaring with numerous nominees and awardees absent at the award. Phyno who appeared late and had a ceremonious entrance, was awarded the Song Of The Year for his efforts on ‘Fada Fada’, came out to receive his trophy. The rapper opted not to give an acknowledgement speech, grabbing the mic and coldly muttering "Me I no get speech o, Thank u for the award" But no trophy was handed to him. No assistant usher brought any trophy on stage for the star, and he was made to walk back to his seat empty handed. Midway through the walk, he met up with Ayo Animashaun, the organiser of the award and laid his frustration. But nothing came of it. This happened on a night when many acts failed to show up and claim their trophies. Simi failed to claim her award for “Best Vocal Performance”, Kiss Daniel failed to claim an award, Illblisss who was a big winner in two categories, Patoranking who won the Best Reggae/Dancehall single was absent, and Olamide won two awards, but was a no show. Big winners on the night include Darey, Illbliss, Kiss Daniel and Mr Eazi, who won the Next Rated category. source:http://pulse.ng/buzz/headies-2016-phyno-embarassed-on-stage-fails-to-receive-gold-trophy-for-fada-fada-win-id5940189.html |
Music/Radio / Why Musicians ‘boycotted’ Nigeria’s Most Prestigious Music Awards by sultan457: 10:49am On Dec 23, 2016 |
So why did celebrities boycott the Headies? Why did Nigeria's most prestigious awards get a low celebrity turn out? The Headies was boycotted by Nigerian musicians. That fact was evident as the award show started. A huge number of fans were quick to point out the long rows of reserved seats for nominees and stars who failed to turn up. The show which held on December 23, 2016, at the Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotels & Suites, had a very low turnout of celebrities. Their absence was glaring with numerous nominees and awardees absent at the award. The show which was hosted by Falz and Adesua Etomi and celebrated the best of Nigerian music had many awardees fail to turn up. Numerous awards were left unclaimed by the winners as some presenters had to take the awards with them backstage. Notable absentees were the entire members of Mavin Records and YBNL Records, two music companies whose bosses had a bitter spat at the previous edition. Simi failed to claim her award for “Best Vocal Performance”, Kiss Daniel failed to claim an award, Illblisss who was a big winner in two categories, Patoranking who won the Best Reggae/Dancehall single was absent, and Olamide won two awards, but was a no show. So why did celebrities boycott the Headies? The first reason is that celebrities didn’t really boycott the Headies. A lot of them came too late to be given a seat at the head of the table, or step forward to accept their awards. Over the past two years, the Headies had started the show late in a bid to accommodate the lateness of stars. But this year was different. The organisers decided to kick off the award without the artistes. And the results was poor for TV. Also, the Headies date for this year is in December, a holiday season when the stars are booked for numerous paid events. With clients to satisfy across the world, many artistes, being businessmen, would rather make the right choice of making money, than showing up at the Headies. The Headies provides recognition and promotion, but performance fees are the reason why many stars do this, and they will rather be making money than making good waves on TV. This tweet below sums it all up. The Mavins are on their way to Cote D'Ivoire for a concert in Abidjan, while the entire YBNL crew have a paid appearance date at a club in Osogbo. Finally, many celebrities just don’t care. It’s the truth. After 11 years of attending the Headies, many have become jaded, especially those without nominations or a chance to win anything at the trophy. Why dress up, and drive down to the Headies, when I have no important role to play? Why? Why come out to watch other artistes win prizes that I also qualify for? Also, others just want to avoid the limelight of live TV. Unlike what they are familiar with in their careers, the Headies is streamed live to millions of homes across the continent and beyond. As a star, you always have the cameras on you. This means you have to be of your best behavior and stay guarded all through. One wrong facial expression, a misplaced move, and ill-timed gesticulation, and you will forever become the butt of social media jokes, and endless memes. Ask Dija how she felt after last year’s enthusiastic jumping earner the bashing of her life. Also, ask Eva Alordiah’s fiancé – Caesar – who got snubbed by Wizkid, “ How Market”? |

Celebrities / Lil Kesh;olamide Sets New Standard With New Business Structure by sultan457: 1:30pm On Apr 27, 2016 |
With this new arrangement Olamide has created a new precedent for Nigerian music business structure. Find artistes, groom them, whoever becomes successful, should be groomed to be independent, just as long as they can generate funding for their projects. This week, a partnership that has birthed glorious hit songs in Nigeria for the past two years was restructured. Lil Kesh is no longer signed to Olamide’s YBNL Records. He is a free man, who intends to go ahead and set up his independent record label “ YAGI”. The news have flowed in, with many unable to see the genius behind the move. Olamide signed Lil Kesh in 2014, alongside his friend Viktoh. He never had the intention of holding Lil Kesh for life, hence put pen to paper on a two-year deal. That deal has expired in 2014. Between his signing and the expiration of his contract, Lil Kesh has been on a jolly ride through life, from unknown rapper, to one-hit champion, to performing all over the world, to label owner. The young man has taken his chance, creating dance music via indigenous rap, being a blessing to his family, and inspiring many others. Lil Kesh now has to set up his personal record label, which will operate from his house in Lagos. That house already has a studio, which is the prerequisite for creating a record label. The music has to be constant, and the management on point. He is still affiliated to Olamide’s YBNL, but in a management capacity. On the business side, very few things have changed. The digital publishing revenue will have to be rerouted to YAGI, YBNL still gets a percentage from all earnings, although, they will have to relinquish a major share of the profits from his career. Lil Kesh still retains the mentorship of Olamide, who is reliving his come-up story with the boy. In similar manner, Olamide released the album “YBNL” in 2012, and split with his mentor and Coded Tunes label boss, ID Cabasa. His personal venture, has become the powerhouse that YBNL is. Lil Kesh is running along similar lines, dropping his debut album “Y.A.G.I”, before setting up his personal record label. With this new arrangement Olamide has created a new precedent for Nigerian music business structure. Find artistes, groom them. Whoever has the potential to become successful, should be groomed to be independent, just as long as they can generate funding for their projects. This business plan depends heavily on the artiste becoming successful within a short period of time. As far as the love shared between both parties is concerned, nothing is lost. Lil Kesh is his younger brother, one whom he has seen blossom right in front of him. That is pure joy, the kind that nothing else can bring, (Except a million dollar alert). Whether Lil Kesh stays or departs is immaterial. Lil Kesh can set up his side project. In fact, it is folly for him not to set one up, as a personal side hustle to bring in extra dough, while planning for his future. Olamide’s mentorship and connection would also be of immense value to such a venture. Truth is, in whatever form you look at it, in whatever way the story is being framed and sold, Lil Kesh and Olamide cannot leave each other. www.opera.pulse.ng/buzz/lil-kesh-olamide-sets-new-standard-with-new-business-structure-id4966509.html |

Politics / Dasukigate: Accord Party Admits Ex-gov. Ladoja Received N100million From Anenih by sultan457: 7:07am On Jan 09, 2016 |
Accord Party, one of the political parties which did not sponsor a presidential candidate for the 2015 elections, has confirmed receiving N100 million from a former chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Tony Anenih, ahead of the polls. The party said it got the money through its national leader, Rashidi Ladoja, the party’s governorship candidate in Oyo State. The party opened up on the payment in a letter to the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu. The letter, dated January 8, was signed by the national secretary of the party, Nureni Adisa. Mr. Anenih is one of several top politicians accused of receiving payments from a $2.1 billion slush fund, originally meant for the purchase arms for the fight against Boko Haram, but which was allegedly diverted by a former NSA, Sambo Dasuki. The former PDP BoT chairman reportedly explained to the EFCC that he was not a beneficiary of the sum, but that he was instructed by former President Goodluck Jonathan to release the funds to some political groups for mobilisation and post-election peace advocacy. He stated in a letter to the EFCC that N100 million was given to the leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Olu Falae, N100 million to the leader of Accord, Mr. Ladoja, and N63 million to a group headed by Tanko Yakassai. Confirming receipt of the funds, in the letter titled, “Release of One Hundred Million by Chief Tony Anenih”, Mr. Adisa said, “Our attention has been drawn to a newspaper report that the sum of One Hundred Million Naira was released to the ACCORD leader, Senator Rashidi Ladoja by Chief Tony Anenih, the (former) Chairman BoT of the PDP. “We confirm that the sum of One Hundred Million Naira was given to the party through our leader after series of meetings between the leadership of ACCORD and Chief Tony Anenih in preparation for the 2015 general elections,” said the letter. He highlighted three issues discussed at the said meetings, which according to the party secretary, led to the release of N100 million to Mr. Ladoja. “There was need to support the presidential candidate of the PDP since ACCORD had no presidential candidate. “The need to ensure that peace was maintained to enhance peaceful movement during periods of campaign, elections and after the elections. “The need for the PDP to support ACCORD campaign effort,” said the letter. Accordingly, he said Mr. Anenih released N100 million “for these purposes through our leader, Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja”. “The money released was accordingly used for the purposes as stated above,” Mr. Adisa said. Messrs. Yakassai and Falae had already confirmed that they received N63 million and N100 million respectively from Mr. Anenih for the purposes specified. Mr. Falae said the money was “purely” for inter party affairs. Mr. Falae, who spoke to New Telegraph, explained that “In the build-up to the presidential election, the PDP approached the SDP which I chaired. “The then ruling party solicited for our support in order for President Goodluck Jonathan to win the March 28 presidential election. “Anenih related with me as the chairman of the PDP BoT and I did same as the SDP National Chairman. “He wrote to me as PDP BoT chairman and I wrote back as SDP national chairman stating conditions/terms for the alliance. “I have the record. It is true that N100 million was given to my party to endorse and work for the Jonathan’s candidature in the 2015 election. “We used the money for that purpose and we effectively campaigned for the PDP since we did not have presidential candidate in the election. The money was not for me. “Thank God I’m a retired civil servant. I have all the documents to prove all that transpired between the two parties,” Mr. Falae said. The former finance minister said there was no way he could know that the money was from arms fund. “With all the money PDP has and having spent 16 years in power, how would I know that the money was from the arms deal? No reference was made to the arms deal. So, they should not bring me into the arms issue,” he said in the interview.
