Phones / Re: Tecno, The Highest Selling Mobile Brand In Nigeria Revealed by Sundown123: 8:24am On Jan 08, 2016
Very interesting read
Frontier2:

I came across this information online and I was surprised hearing Tecno mobile is ahead of Samsung in sales volume in Nigeria. Could this be true? Check the gist below

Months ago, I was in Accra, Ghana for the West Africa Telecom Summit Expo 2015, as well as Ghana Telecom Awards 2015. During the course of the events, I spoke with a few industry insiders there and all confirmed that TECNO was Ghana’s leading smartphone brand, ahead of Samsung and Huawei.

Here in Nigeria, sales figures from 2014 tell a similar story – that TECNO has become Nigeria’s leading smartphone brand, again ahead of Samsung. I have spoken with leading mobile technologist, Emeka Okoye, about the Nigerian smartphone market before. He reiterated this fact again:

Emeka says that for every one device that Samsung sells, TECNO sells two. Sounds amazing.
I wish for the day when statistics will be made public here in Nigeria as is done in other places around the world. Available stats here keep being shrouded in secrecy, something that I believe is detrimental to progress.

We saw the launch of a new player, Xiaomi in the market but it seems neither Xiaomi nor others can water down the ravaging mobile invasion by Tecno mobile

Is Tecno mobile taking over Africa? Let's have your say

TV/Movies / Re: The best karaoke Show on TV you must watch by Sundown123: 8:22am On Jan 08, 2016
I've seen that show, I like what tecno is doing but, the quality of voices on the show.... That's another thing
Maximum83:
The maiden edition of TecnoOwnTheStage is on Africa Magic.
The show is a new innovation promoting amateur singing talents via a karaoke competition that is fresh and exciting. The competition drew 15 contestants from Nigeria, Kenya and Tanzania with M.I, Yemi Alade and Bien of Sauti Sol as judges while Uti and Vimbai host the show.

#TecnoOwnTheStage like most new reality show, unleashes freshness in every episode with a crescendo that is yet to unfold on the grand finale for both audience and viewers of the show.

There’s room for improvement
It’s a new show with a different kind of contest, there are bound to be some hiccups but with the solid backing of a leading brand like TECNO Mobile on a world class cable TV platform, one can only imagine what the next season will hold.
Catch them raw

There are no training academies and certainly no voice coaches-it is karaoke competition. Only the best and most experienced contestants will make the audience and fans sing along to our favourite songs just like in karaoke bars and candle light dinners.

The judges bearing down their experience and talent will sift through the bunch to bring out the shows best of the best.
The trick is simple, the lucky contestant must have the ability to capture live audience with their voice, diction and stage presence.
TecnoOwnTheStage is a singing competition, different from the rest

TECNO Mobile is lauded for pushing innovation and curating world class customer experience in markets hence the drive to make #TECNOOwnTheStage the most sensational television show in Africa…
“At TECNO we continuously strive for greatness. Our products have grown across Africa, a testament to our drive for perfection, success and harnessing the best in the markets we operate in. The TecnoOwnTheStage competition is simply in furtherance of this fact.” – Mr. Oye Akideinde General Manager, Mobile Apps, TECNO Mobile

#TecnoOwnTheStage is definitely heralding newness to reality shows in Africa and attracting new crop of reality show lovers, deepening the TV and entertainment industry in Africa.

Who’s cashing- in on the $25000.00 Jackpot?
Everyone is eager to find out, stay tuned…
Tune in to Africa Magic (DSTV 151) next Sunday at 19:00 CAT to watch episode 5 of #TECNOOwnTheStage you can also watch past episodes on Youtube also, ff @tecnoowndstage for exciting weekly competitions.

Phones / Re: Android 6.0 Marshmallow by Sundown123: 8:20am On Jan 08, 2016
Good news, I wonder why it's so far apart tho. Was thinking of getting my daughter the boom one, but I'll go with camon now
BenKafor:
Are you guys as excited as I am. I mean,Tecno mobile Nigeria announced that Camon C8 will receive Marshmallow update in February 2016 while Phantom 5 will receive it in June.

I have a Camon C8 and I enjoy using it, but I will enjoy it even more with the Marshmallow update because it has really cool features.

One of the features of the Marshmallow is Doze, which saves your battery like CRAZY!!
The app menu has a totally different look, instead of scrolling left and right through the apps, you can now scroll up and down and the best part is that the apps are arranged alphabetically so it's suuuuuuuuuper easy to find your apps.
Another cool feature is that there is now a RAM menu so you can easily know where your memory has been used in the past 3, 6, 12 and 24 hours which increases performance and efficiency.

There are so many other wonderful features that the Marshmallow has, if you would like to read through all of them, here's the link - https://www.androidpit.com/android-m-release-date-news-features-name

This is definitely something to look forward to.

I saw this on some other place, and I keep asking why the phone looks childish when it's not a children's phone. Low cost shouldn't mean low quality.

Romance / Re: My Wife Thought D Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus was A Better Phone dan D Phantom 5 by Sundown123: 8:13am On Jan 08, 2016
Both funs are for two different types and budgets of mobile users. Awesome in those places, but to compare them is suicide for Tecno
jaysay:
Since it is the holiday season and it is the season of love--not that I believe that we should gift people gifts only during December--I bought my wife A Samsung GALAXY S6 Edge Plus and bought myself the TECNO Phantom 5. Something surprising happened.

While I would have preferred the Samsung GALAXY S6 Edge Plus, I went for the Phantom 5 instead--cos the front facing camera with flash and wide angle shot is super awesome and much better than those of the S6 Edge Plus.

My wife is learning make up by watching some YouTube videos and taking a lot of selfies of late whenever she has made herself up. She took a photo of her made up face once using my Phantom 5. This must have been the reason she pulled this fast one on me.

One morning, after she left for work, I heard her phone ringing in the house. I picked it up only to discover that the call was for me and that it was my SIM that is in her phone. While I was sleeping, she unlocked my phone with her finger (I registered her finger as one of the 5 fingers registered to my Phantom 5) and exchanged the SIM card. She left me with her Samsung GALAXY S6 Edge Plus and took my Phantom 5.

Apparently, she's saying the TECNO Phantom 5 is a better phone than the Samsung GALAXY S6 Edge Plus. I am wondering what to do now--May be I should put the Samsung GALAXY S6 Edge up for sale and buy the Phantom 5 or just manage the S6 Edge.

What would you do if it were you?'

Emphasis on the limited. But I also think tecno may need to look into how quickly Infinix came and flooded the market. Infinix may have relatively less products than tecno, but tecno must know Infinix is definitely after its cheese
benigneOne:
Both brands are doing well but Infinix is certainly not eating tecno's cheese. Tecno has a wider variety of phones that suit people from all walks of life. Infinix is still very limited.

Phones / Re: Two Reasons Why Infinix and others are Not Eating Tecno’s Cheese Yet by Sundown123: 7:47am On Jan 08, 2016
Is that article old, cos from what I gather it must be. Cos now tecno does offer value for money. I would like to see more quality like the Samsung and iPhone, but for the amount of money it goes for, it's really thetdefinition of value for money
Frontier2:

I read an article in July 2015, written by a blogger titled "Is Infinix eating TECNO’s cheese in Nigeria?. In that article, he examined the question of innovation and value for money and submits that "TECNO have relaxed in terms of innovation, most of their current crop of smartphones in the market no longer offer value for money".

And by all appearances, that was correct at the time. Up till that time, the only striking smartphone from TECNO in 2015 was the Boom J7. The J7 is a beautiful device, but it didn't stand out much and drive the kind of hype people were used to with TECNO.

Probably because of low marketing drive for this nice device. I still love this device up till now and it's still one of the greatest 1gb RAM phones with great multitasking

The Boom J7 really is something - a beautiful design with great music and audio capabilities. And a good performer too. But due to some reasons it didn't get the kind of buzz i expect from it.

Tecno realized this early enough during the year, and things have completely changed for these two reasons

Count One: Camon C8
The affordable camera-centric Camon C8 was a hit. TECNO promised that it would wow users with its camera and it has done just that. The 3,000 mAh battery helped too.

Count Two: Phantom 5
We didn't see this coming. We knew TECNO was playing for premium, but we didn't think it would come out this good. Immediately details of the Phantom 5 went public, it became the talk of the town both by lovers and haters of the brand. The talk hasn't died out months after - and the premium metal build, gorgeous display, BOOM Player and awesome stereo audio, fingerprint scanner, 3,000 mAh battery, 4G LTE, and great performance means that the Phantom 5 will stay in the public eye for a while.

In fairness, Infinix had an equally exciting year. So, 2015 was a very good year for both brands. Perhaps, Infinix is merely only nibbling at TECNO's cheese. After all, TECNO remains far ahead in terms of sales and has clinched the position of the largest smartphone brand in Nigeria.

The year 2016 is going to be an exciting year in the mobile industry. We expect lots of innovation from tecno mobile.
The question is, will Tecno mobile retain its leadership position of the smartphone market in Nigeria?

Romance / Re: What I Saw On Facebook Today ??? by Sundown123: 7:44am On Jan 08, 2016
I heard it's really nice Sha, I'll save money, but by the time I have enough, Tecno will probably have something better so some dilemma things. So

Phones / Re: The type of phone you use is a reflection of who you are. by Sundown123: 7:41am On Jan 08, 2016
So using an iPhone would make me wasteful and using an infinix or even Tecno would make me prudent? El oh el
Toks2008:
Phones they say are just necessities and not luxury but in many parts of the world especially in Nigeria, many people see phones as luxury and they tend to want to use the very expensive ones even when they can't afford it and knowing fully well that any phone can be stolen no matter how well you guard it.This has made me believe that indeed the type of phone we use goes a long way to tell us about who we are.

Some will say its a gift but then most times, the source of the gift is also a pointer to your personality So if you meet any guy or lady,it is very easy to know their personality just by taking a look at the cost of the phone the person uses in comparison with the person's financial status especially in Nigeria..How?

1.A Guy or lady who works but uses an expensive phone that costs higher than their monthly salary is wasteful.

2.A jobless lady who uses an I-phone 6 or very expensive phone is either a runs girl or has rich parents while a jobless guy who uses an I-phone 6 or a very expensive phone must be a yahoo guy or has very rich parent.

3.A gainfully employed man or woman who uses phones quite cheaper than their monthly salary is very prudent.

4.People who brag about their love for expensive phones irrespective of their income are proud and extravagant.

5.A very financially ok person who uses phones less than 10k is very secretive and could be hiding something.

6.Anyone who uses a phone that is binded by rubber or taped is terribly broke.

You can add yours...
