Politics / Re: Wikileaks Cables: Nigeria Pressured Uk To Drop Charges Against Politician(ibori) by Swahili9: 2:44pm On Feb 06, 2011
Stromae:

If this is the kind of leadership we have then why not join the militants and boko haram?! I tell you if Nigeria does not see it fit to bury this man alive then we will suffer greatly for it with the loss of life. This news pains me so deeply. How can we remain so calm when our leaders violently ra.pe us over and over again then joke and laugh about it in their convoys and mansions.

Nigeria Wake Up!

I cannot agree with you more. Maybe the truth is a lot simpler, we Nigerians are cowards unwilling to stand up for what is right and worship those with money. God cannot save us in this instance, only our actions as a people can.
Romance / Re: How Does One Regain Trust In A Relationship? by Swahili9: 12:02am On Jan 02, 2011
If one of my male friends asked me the question,  I would simply tell him to cover his tracks better next time. The truth is if you are the perpetuator you can never regain the trust, so instead of stressing yourself with all that building bridges crap either bounce out or continue as per usual.

If you are the injured party, you need to 'get even' and not wallow in self pity. This will at least lessen the blow of a betrayal.

And this final point applies mainly to women. Never ask your girlfriends to advise you on issues of trust with your bf/husband. They will only succeed in giving you the worst possible solutions, which will at first lead to confusion and ultimately failure.   grin cheesy cheesy
Politics / Re: Victory For Democracy! - Jonathan Finally Agrees To Debate by Swahili9: 11:38pm On Jan 01, 2011
I have come to the conclusion that we get the leaders we deserve in Nigeria, especially when we have citizens - who I assume claim to be patriots - openly espousing the view that a debate is unnecessary.  We have a fragile democracy and need to do more to democratise our institutions at all levels and this debate is clearly one of the elements of democracy we should be longing for.
When the political parties are not grounded in any principles other than a power grab it is important that we get to listen to the 'issues' (if any)  that are both at the heart and drive these politicians to political power.  Who cares whether it is intra or inter party debate,  it is better than the nonsense we are served up now.

How else are we going to have the intelligent leadership this godforsaken country is crying out for? And to those who say it would damage the PDP or claim it's an 'anti' gej' agenda, for god sake let's not kid ourselves. Nigeria is a one party PDP state and whoever gets the PDP nomination will return the next president by hook or by crook. So in essence this is as close as we will get to a presidential debate.

I know it's not  a perfect, it's not even good it's poor, but these are practices we should start expecting from these guys. The culture of open debate is intrinsic in democracy otherwise it's a slippery slope towards the other option which I certainly do not want.

And I have an off topic question. Why do we glorify past kleptocratic Presidents/Leaders in this country by naming roads or public places after them? Are our standards that low?
