Hello guys, great job you are doing. Please I have a question. Is there any discrimination or hidden preference between a blocked account and a sponsorship letter to apply for student visa? Some people are speculating German embassy prefer a blocked account funded with €8,640 to sponsorship letter. I'm planning to apply with a sponsorship letter but I'm a bit skeptical. Please I need your clarification guys to disambiguate this speculation. Bless

There's no discrimination, in as much your SL is authentic.

I'm no immigration expert and I might not have an answer to your question, but I know the embassy always like to be convinced that you're coming back home after your visit to germany. Things like "a job to come back to", "a family (dependents) to come back to" etc.. are good indications that you have a reason to come back home. So imagine just telling them you're unemployed, that sounds to me like a red flag.

Since you have a PhD admission already, I think you should add the adm letter to your application documents. At least that can convince them that you've something to come back for.

ask1509:
Hello Everybody,
I am Oluwasegun and I just got a scholarship to attend a science conference in Germany. The conference is fully sponsored. On reading through this thread and the Visa information page of the German mission, I know I have to do the following (please correct me if I'm wrong ):

1. Fill the Shengen Visa short stay application form and print it out.
2. Add the print out above to some other required documents for the business visa and gather the docs, also get the cash equivalent of the visa fee.
3. Book an appointment for Visa interview online at the consulate.
4. Go for the interview where I will submit all documents and pay for the visa in cash
5. Hope for the best result

However, I am a bit confused about the required docs due to my profile. I just came back to Nigeria last year (from Cameroon where I did my masters) and since then, I have been freelancing online basically on Fiverr and on Upwork. Consequently, I do not have all the following documents required for travellers attending a conference :

1 Certificate of Incorporation/Registration of the company in Nigeria
2 Memorandum and Articles of Association / Company and Allied Matters Act
3 Federal Inland Revenue Service Income Tax Clearance Certificate/Company Income Tax Clearance Certificate of the past year
4 Company´s bank statements of the last three months (only stamped and signed bank statements accepted)
5 Letter of introduction from employer
6 Employment contract and pay slips of the last three months
7 Evidence of business in Nigeria and also of former and current transactions in Nigeria and/or abroad (e. g. bills of lading, receipts, contracts)

I am thinking I should just be silent about my freelancing all together and tell them I am unemployed and that I am a prospective student (I have a PhD) admission already (but I am yet to start) in order not to complicate issues for myself. So that I will only have to provide doc 3 (the FIRS revenue Income Tax Clearance) and my Personal bank statements. However, will not providing docs 1, 2,4,5,6,7 above affect my chances? Also, do I really need FIRS revenue Income Tax Clearance (doc 3) since I am not working yet?

I will be looking forward to your comments and answers to the issues raised above. I will also like to have your comment regarding whether I should include being a freelancer or not as I think this will complicate issues for me. Finally, targeted arrival date is Nov 10, when is the best time to book an appointment?

Yo! Did you get any student discount? How much was the flight?

ninered:

Its your choice I'm not an agent but here are some airlines to choose from...
Top leagues are Lufthansa, KLM, Air France, British airways etc (this one nah your money kill am)
Average league: Emirates, Turkish airlines etc
Low league: Air maroc, Kenya airways, 9ja airlines etc
The trick is European airlines cost high, middle-east airlines average and African airlines cheapest.
I chose Turkish airlines...

Yeah, July!

Stheelooo:

You mean July? The first week of June is already over
Travel / Re: General German Visa Enquiries Part 3 by talk2olu: 8:14pm On Jun 07, 2017
I also know of someone who booked today and got an interview for the first week of July. Was your Enrollment deadline clearly stated in your letter?

yusufjinadu:
I applied for a VISA interview via mail today the 7th of JUNE, 2017 and the interview date given to me was 31st of August 2017 (12 weeks later! and just 2 weeks to the commencement of my enrollment period).

Is that normal?

Hi guys.

What happens if you book your VISA interview and you're yet to fund your blocked account by the interview date?

Anybody with this kind of experience?
Travel / Re: General German Visa Enquiries Part 3 by talk2olu: 10:00pm On May 27, 2017
They'll only block the amount you request them to block. You'll have normal access to the rest.

Negro1986:
Good day house, happy weekend to you all, please my ogas in the house and those who have experience with this student blocked account (FINTIBA), what happens when somebody funds his account in excess of the required amount (ie) let say with 17,458 Euros, will all the money still be blocked or will the account owner have access to the excess 8729?
Secondly will there be negative consequences of this to the student ?
I anticipate your views my people

The discount has always been there. But they won't mention it unless you ask for it. I paid 10k at Courier Plus earlier this year.

ninered:
So I set out today with a 20k budget. I planned on certifying one set of documents at the embassy for free, then waybill it through dhl @ N18,200 and spend the remaining N1,800 on transport and feeding.
I was shocked when I got to the embassy. When it got to my turn the white guy typed something into the computer and was like:
White guy: You have been here before
Me: yes sir smiley
White guy: and you certified docs for 4 schools
Me: well yes
White guy: For this 5th application you'll pay N3,300
Me: But Excuse me sir, when I certified those documents it was done for free and that was in February also the new policy only started this month of May.
White guy: It doesn't matter
Me: What?! shocked
I have heard of the new policy but I thought it meant if you come with more than 3 set of docs you pay didn't know they'll go into their archives.
I had to think fast... If I go it would all be a wasted effort but if I pay I'll have a N3,300 deficit in my budget. Anyways I grudgingly paid the money but left the embassy like a bizman who had just lost his container of goods in the ocean.
@ 2pm I picked up my docs and my next move was dhl for waybill but I was short of 3.3k. FedEx is 16k but it still did not solve the 3.3k deficit. Calling anyone for money wasn't an option and I had to stick to my 20k budget. If you're wondering why I didn't use Nipost or whatever, well my deadline is 31st May and I need it delivered within 2-3days.
@ dhl office
The nice lady: Good afternoon , how may I help you?
Me: I have a package for Germany, school docs to be precise
The nice lady: it would cost you N18,200
Me: these are school docs and I want a discount.
I thought she would just laugh at my silly comment of "discount" but instead she looked at me typed sth in the computer and said: "erh...uhm...OK actually we have student discount and it would cost me N13,200 instead.
Nah wow ooo!!! shocked
Me: So you people do student discount and you never mentioned it and I spent 18.2k the last time hmmm...there's God ooo
The nice lady: sorry I forgot to mention it and its just a new policy.
I knew she was lying but thank God sha. On my way home I met two people I haven't seen for sometime. The first was a young girl she is a hardworking apprentice hairdresser. I dashed her 500 naira maybe because I was in goodmood and I just saved extra money from dhl. The 2nd person was a schoolmate, he was excited to see me and said we should go hangout that he would pay. God knows I was very hungry and haven't eaten since morning. Oh boy! I ate and drank more than my initial I.8k budget for food and transport, he even dropped me off at my place.

I know my post is long but who cares? I met an old friend, I'm 6000naira richer and God watches over me cool
