Religion / Re: 4 Reasons I'm Considering Becoming An Atheist by tayrebini: 6:42pm On Dec 30, 2019
1.Jesus is the only way to God, John 14:6
This invariably means those who don't believe in Jesus have no business in heaven.
Christians worldwide have an estimated population of 2.4billion people
Islam records an estimate of 1.9 billion adherents, Hindu has an estimated 1.1bn adherents. The remaining world's population have their own beliefs which includes atheism.
If Jesus is the only way to God, what happens to those who don't believe in him? Hell? Well, the Bible suggests so.

I remember when I submitted an application for First bank in 2006. Over eighty thousand people wrote the test. The number was streamlined to 3000 for the interview but just 550 people were eventually employed. Would you say the company did the wrong dropping over 79,450 people? I'm just trying to draw a parallel and I trust you can see that. There are essentially a number of religions in the world, but the foremost are Christianity and Islam in my opinion and that's why I'll focus on them in making my point.
Christians believe that Jesus is the son of God or essentially God manifesting in the flesh. He died to save humanity, resurrected and is coming back to save the church. Islam believes that Jesus is a prophet, believe that it's abominable to even think that God can have a child and don't believe in the redemptive work of Christ. These are contrasting views and one can infer that one of them is right or they are both wrong, but one thing is certain, they both can't be right. A teacher can't have two marking schemes to grade students. He uses just one. Since we're created in his image, we can assume that it's also in God's nature to have a correct answer to the question of "what/who is the way to heaven?". No need to be confused, believe in one and embrace it with everything. If you are wrong with your choice, be ready to go down with it. I believe in Jesus as my Lord and my savior. I believe he's coming back to take me home with him to heaven where there will be nothing that hurts and I am fully persuaded that I am right.

2. There are a lot of complications and contradictory remarks in the Bible- a verse says don't drink, another says "Drink for your stomach sake", or "Do not drink wherein excess."
Malachi 3:10 a famous Bible verse on tithing speaks about bringing your tithe to the storehouse (church, maybe)
Deuteronomy 14:22-26 says otherwise, it says "you should drink and be merry with your tithe". I'm seriously beginning to doubt the credibility of the Bible. Maybe the translators' fault or God told writers different stories on the same issue. Read Matthew, Mark, Luke and John's account of Jesus and see real contradictions.

Understanding the bible is about context. I will say this and you have probably never heard it before from a christian. "The Bible is indeed a difficult book to read". The bible says "The letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life". God is the one who inspired people(over 40 authors) to write it and he's the one that can explain the message to anyone who desires to understand it. It's like a student who hates a course or subject; he can't get the best from it no matter how hard they try. I'll also say that many people also abuse doctrines and it confuses a number of people and you happen to be in that group. Two people can say a story but they tell it differently but the message isn't lost. They may choose to different areas of emphasis possibly on people or place but the message will still be the same. Settle this in your mind. "God cannot be confused, therefore the bible cannot be a confusing book"

3. Does God answer prayers? Well, I'm not really sure about that. Someone might be suffering from malaria, the person takes drugs and still prays, the drugs work, but the person thanks God. Or a successful surgical operation, instead of thanking the doctor, they thank God. Some illnesses that would have been treated led to deaths because a certain congregation who were supposed to take the ill persons to the hospital, circled around praying. Faith without work isn't it still dead?
I remember when I had stomach ulcer, it was really terrible, I prayed and made several promises to God that if He took away the ulcer, I'd drink no more alcohol and will be more devout in worshipping Him. That didn't solve anything though, I stopped drinking and took to taking my drugs more seriously. Weeks later, I was well. I returned to drinking and after a few months, the ulcer resurfaced. That was when I realized I really needed to quit drinking. Prayers wouldn't have solved that issue.
I spent 80% of 2019 at home because of my misgivings about God's existence.
I really wish I could be convinced about God's existence because I'm not even happy to be away from Church because of the views of friends and family.

Of course, God answers prayers but praying does not absolve you of your responsibilities to God, yourself, your community, your family etc. As a matter, prayer, work and faith work together. Where one of these elements is missing, there is misery like the one you are feeling right now. Yes they need to thank God for healing them though they went through surgery. They could have died from the surgery, there could have been complications from the surgery but God preserved them through it. I'll say they are really smart to thank God. You should too cause you could have used those medications and not recover still.

4. Children of God, or so called children of God tend to suffer more tribulations, hard times and desperate moments, a lot of them scream "Vanity upon Vanity" when secular people live in luxury or spend extravagantly. God tends to turn his back on those who worship Him especially when they need Him most.
The 1933 Holocaust and mass murder of Jews to the tone of 6m was a clear indication that God turns His eyes against His people
Repulsive comments are highly welcome

It's amazing how we recognize the force of good(God) but somehow ignore that there is a force of evil who is the devil. We tell this stories in our movies but we can't seem to wrap our heads in the reality of it's existence. Satan is the god of this world(2 Corinthians 4:4, Matthew 4:8-10). We are just ambassadors. Jesus warned us of perilious times that will come, he warned us that we will suffer temptations and tribulations but he said be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. Satan hates our guts cause he hates God. He can't hurt God, so he attacks believers to get at God but we have the name of Jesus to overcome. However, not all terrible situations we experience are the devil, some are self-inflicted and ignorance. Christianity is not supposed to rob us of comfort and i have seen very good christians who are so rich as I have seen very poor christians who are so bad. God warned Israel but they rejected Jesus and his warnings. The devil raised a maniac(Hitler) to slaughter the jews but because of the covenant, he still saved a remnant. Today, less that 5% of Jews are Christians, they don't believe in Jesus as they didn't believe when he first showed up. they practice Judaism which is another form of religion.
