Technology Market / 2015 E-nigeria Conference by Terahertz(m): 2:24pm On Nov 14, 2015
The statement that “the best time to start planning for the next election is immediately a winner emerges for the current one” is often directed at the politicians. However, I stumbled unto a site a few days ago and I found their current mission quite interesting.

They are called eNigeria -- http://enigeria.gov.ng. It seems that this group have seen it fit to also start the discussion which concerns our electoral mechanism and infrastructure. It clearly makes sense because as the politicians prepare their campaigns, Nigeria should prepare to listens to the voters better.

Normally, I would have rolled my eyes and think it all a waste of time, but after reading up the program that they have for the 12th edition of this conference. I believe its something worth of keeping a close eye on.

There will be a several demonstrations of innovative software and hardware that may be used in the next elections. Hopefully, there will be enough time to perfect these technologies by the next election. The Vice President Prof. Osinbajo, Prof. Jega, Dr. Evans Woherem (President Digital Africa) and many other high profile personalities will be in attendance.

The 2015 edition of eNigeria is expected to provide a veritable platform for exploring various pertinent concerns that all citizens should have. This year's theme is titled “Toward an Effective Electoral Process in Nigeria: The Role of ICT Local Content and Information Security.”

I would urge every concerned citizen (I.T savvy or not) to tune into this conference one way or another. Via the internet, TV or attending the conference first hand. I'm an ICT consultant and just knowing that like minded Nigerians can meet and discuss information security as it relates to bio-metric verification and beyond, just make it compulsory that I attend.

I also do think its time we all get involved.

Webmasters / Re: Why Do Nigerians Love Cms, Plugins And Frameworks A Lot? by Terahertz(m): 10:55am On May 01, 2015
I believe you have summarized it concisely. "Why reinvent the wheel?" Personally I felt the post didn't warrant a response but since you bothered to make one I will simply like, and endorse it.

I'd also like to add that these racial comments often sound like they came from a place without knowledge or information. 90% of websites EVEN some united states government sites use CMSes. But because we are black we should just suffer and "do our own"... Don't drive cars ride donkeys instead, dont uses cellphones train pidgeons or trek like "the buhari traveler" to deliver 30 second d messages, because the tech is western? Come to think if it, why do u even use their computers "do your own na!".

If there is a need to write custom code we are more than capable of writing our own code but optimizing the efforts of thousands and millions of programmers in the Open Source community is the prudent way to go!

pcguru1:

That's an unfair statement to make, you use something to get the job done, also by white guys what does this mean ? you do know that White people use our tech too, Check Precurio, I contribute to a CMS platform called ImpressPages and I get mails from people outside Nigeria to help fix some of the plugins i created. that mindset doesn't belong in the Technology space. Why rebuild the wheel when it's been done already.

I use Frameworks and CMS and also extend and create plugins for CMS/Frameworks, so what's the big deal ? use frameworks and CMS if u must they were built to be used. so i should Session Plugin/Authentication Plugins from scratch/Flash manager,Asset Bundler, Dispatcher just because I want to prove myself. please it's not realistic. This is modern development only thing i would say is even using this frameworks pple still should learn the underlying tech.

Webmasters / Re: Webmasters Enter Here If You Can Solve These PHP Questions... by Terahertz(m): 2:38pm On Apr 30, 2015
It will actually return 3 the initial value but will change the variable $a to 4....
Craigston:

Since the parameter '$arg' is passed by reference, the function accesses its value directly. The expressions in the function will operate directly on its value without making any copy. Therefore, the function 'doSomething' will return 4 and will also change the value of $a to 4.
