Sports / Wow! UEFA Review Away-goal Rule In UCL Ahead Of Big Change by terryto(m): 3:10pm On Sep 06, 2018
UEFA has planned a big change to the Away-goal rule for the European competitions.

Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho and a number of coaches brought up the matter to the European Football Governing Body.

Deputy General Secretary Of UEFA, Giorgio Marchetti has confirmed it would be a open discussion on the future of the rule used to split teams who are level on aggregate in the knockout stages of the Champions League and Europa League.

"The coaches think that scoring goals away is not as difficult as it was in the past," Marchetti told reporters.

"They think the rule should be reviewed and that's what we will do.

"They consider the situation in football has changed and the weight of the away goals is not the same as many years ago when the rule was introduced."

Marchetti spoke after the annual Elite club Coaches forum in Nyon, which is used to exchange ideas and improve the continent's top competitions.

Along with the away-goals rule, the use of VAR and the technical and tactical aspects of last season's tournaments, attendees also called for a unified end to the transfer window.

Manchester United Coach Jose Mourinho, PSG's Thomas Tuchel and Real Madrid Boss Julen Lopetegui were among the coaches to attend.

Other Coaches present were: Carlo Ancelotti of Napoli, Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone, Rafa Benitez of Newcastle United, Sergio Conceicao of Porto, Paulo Fonseca of Shakhtar Donetsk, Marseille's Rudi Garcia and Senol Gunes of Besiktas.
Politics / Top Court Confirms Zimbabwe’s Mnangagwa Presidential Election Victory by terryto(m): 6:03pm On Aug 24, 2018
Zimbabwe’s Constitutional Courton Friday confirmed President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s disputed July30victory, dismissing an opposition challenge that had held up his inauguration.

In a unanimous ruling of the nine judges of the country's top court, Chief Justice Luke Malaba said opposition leader nelson Chamisa had failed to prove allegations of fraud during the presidential vote.
Zimbabwe’s constitutional court throws out a case alleging electoral fraud filed by the opposition Movement for Democratic Change in the wake of disputed July elections.
The election, in which Mnangagwa and opposition leader Nelson Chamisa were the main contenders, was touted as a crucial step toward economic recovery and shedding Zimbabwe’s pariah reputation, but instead has left the nation deeply polarised.
An army crackdown in response to post election violence by opposition supporters left six people dead on Aug. 1, recalling the heavy handed security tactics that marked the37-year rule of Robert Mugabe, who was removed in a coup last November.
Zimbabwe’s constitution requires that if Mnangagwais confirmed the winner, he should've inaugurated by Sunday.
Chamisa’s lawyers accused the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) of inflating Mnangagwa’s vote tally by69,000 to avoid a runoff, and that the ZEC’s revision of the results was sufficient evidence that fraud occurred.
Lawyers for Mnangagwa and the ZEC brushed the allegations aside and said Chamisa had failed to provide tangible proof.
Mnangagwa, if his win is upheld, faces the challenge of persuading the international community that the army crackdown and lapses in the election process will not derail his promise of political and economic reforms needed to fix the economy.
Political analysts said the constitutional Court was unlikely to call for afresh election. It could, however, order a recount of the ballots.
Police blocked roads around the court, a 19th century British colonial building just opposite Mnangagwa’s offices in central Harare.
But security was lighter compared to Wednesday when the election challenge was heard in court.
The state-owned Herald newspaper said in an editorial: “When the gavel falls, peace must prevail
The privately owned Zimbabwe Independent said the court was unlikely to rule in favor of chamois.
Most Zimbabweans went about their usual business early on Friday while others queued for cash.
Acute cash shortages and lack of foreign investment are part of the economic crisis afflicting the southern African nation.
“I don’t think it(ruling) will change anything. I have a feeling they will find a way to say the result is correct,” 36-year- old Zacharia Chinowota said after withdrawing $40 worth of coins from a downtown Harare bank.(dpa/NAN)
