Phones / Re: Blackberry BBM 7; Advantages And Disadvantages by thanz(m): 1:50pm On Mar 27, 2013
Nice post @Stalyf.

I however want to say that the backup feature is not lost. BBID synchronization now automates the backup process so you don't need to. If you get a new blackberry device, all you need to do is put in your user ID and password and all your contacts, groups, etc will be automatically populated. It is therefore very important to not forget your blackberry ID.

I hope this helps.

Hi VIPICO,

I'm glad I could offer some form of help. To deploy hotspot you'll need either a wireless G router (http://www.buyright.biz/productdetails.php?categoryid=c06&subcategoryid=c98&productid=p0832) or wireless N router (http://www.buyright.biz/productdetails.php?categoryid=c06&subcategoryid=c98&productid=p1033). The links are from a site here in Nigeria that sells these products.

To deploy wireless, note that you'll also need wireless LAN cards on your desktops, as for laptops, most of them already have wireless cards installed (i.e. for the more recent laptops). However, if you already have a wired network (structured cabling), you can still integrate it with the wireless network which means you don't have to remove all your cables and go buying wireless LAN cards for all your systems as this might be expensive unless you have the funds available. Most wireless routers have a provision for both wired and wireless connections. You can check some wireless LAN cards here (http://www.buyright.biz/categorylanding/C06/C18).

Please note: As I said earlier, if you are not familiar with any of these, contact a responsible network engineer who has had experience with these to help you out. Also I'm not recommending the site above. I just found it online and saw that it'll help you with product specifications and an idea of the price. If you want to buy from them please do your due diligence first. I'm not saying they're not ok, I've not just had any experience with them that is all.

If you stay in Lagos, then you can go to the computer village in Ikeja and do some window shopping but do it with someone who knows and has had previous experience with the equipment(s) you wish to deploy.

I hope this helps, one more thing, for a hotspot timer, you can check this out (http://www.antamedia.net/).

I wish you the very best.
Business / Re: I Want To Improve In My Cyber-cafe Business by thanz(m): 1:09pm On Jan 27, 2009
Hi VIPICO,

Inorder to deploy a wireless hotspot, you'll need a wireless router and a hotspot timer. Also someone technically savvy should deploy this for you if you don't know what to do. It'll be worth the amount especially if you don't know what to do.

However you can use the Mikrotik Router OS which has a built-in Hotspot timer. Mikrotik is rugged, stable and easy to deploy. It works on a Linux platform. You can read more about Mikrotik at www.mikrotik.com I've been using and deploying Mikrotik for people and haven't had complaints that aren't easily solved.

In terms of WiFi hotspot and WiMax; A WiFi hotspot has a lower coverage area (i.e. your office building and a few offices/houses near you) than a WiMax which has a larger range and would extend to cover long distances (deployed strategically, WiMax can cover a particular city). It is just a matter of funds to buy the WiMax equipment, deploy and have a timer to use for your clients.

I hope this helps.
Business / Re: Half A Million To Invest by thanz(m): 12:50pm On Jan 06, 2009
@UNIB. Hi, I'll be glad to help you. However, could we start the preliminary process here on this forum. When it begins to get too personal & customized for the kind/type of business you want to go into, we'll then go the email or contact info route. I'd like others to be able to also gain a thing or two from here. I hope you don't mind.

With that said, let's begin with these shall we,

To begin with, I'd like to ask you a few questions which will help me know better how to help you.

1. Do you have a business of your own or are you planning on starting one?
2. How much do you have laid down to either improve upon your existing business or start a new one?
3. Do you know what your strengths are?
4. What are you passionate about?
5. Do you have any previous business experience? (No matter how little, mention it)
6. What is your age bracket? (e.g. 18-25yrs, 26-34yrs, 35-46yrs, etc - Put the appropriate bracket not your actual age)
7. Are you ready, willing and highly motivated to get the business of your dreams? If yes, give reasons in not more than 2 sentences.

If you can honestly answer the following questions, then we can kick of from there. Don't give specifics or details that are personal and/or private to you.

If you are ready and primed up, I can only assure you one thing, you'll EVER remember this day. For it'll mark the beginning of the only viable business training you'll ever have. It's mainly practical to ensure you start seeing results because you'll earn as you learn.

Keep this in mind, building the business of your dreams is a process, its only in hindsight that it'll seem like you achieved it overnight.

I hope this helps and I'll be expecting your response and those of others who also feel interested.

More success to you and yours.
Business / Re: I've Got $5000 To Invest by thanz(m): 4:17pm On Jan 05, 2009
You should start a business that you are very passionate about and you have inherent strengths in.

What areas are you very good at?
What experiences have you acquired over the years?

Don't bother, it doesn't have to be anything huge or complicated. It just has to be something that resonates greatly with you.

If you want to start a business to run for the long term, then it is absolutely necessary that you build it upon your strengths.

If you know the Pareto Principle very well (the 80-20 rule), you'll realize that 80% of businesses fail within the first 5 years, and out of the 20% left another 80% of those will fail within another 5 years. That leaves us with only 4% of businesses succeeding beyond 10 years. You want to know why?, the failing businesses are not building a business around their strengths.

Now I have a little twist to this principle,

80% of what you do in your business can and will be copied or duplicated by your competitors where you like it or not. The other 20% is what cannot be copied and do you know why?

It is what you have a strength in. If I want to go in depth, it'll probably be too long for this post so let me give a quick analogy,

If you've been watching our 9ja comedians you'll realise that they can all copy the same joke that one person said and deliver it in another state (hoping they've not heard that before). Most of their jokes are copied and they'll add their own twist to it to make it a little bit more funny. But have you ever seen anyone trying to sound like 'I Go Die', appear drunk like 'Klint de Drunk'?, etc. You get what I mean? They each individually have their strengths in certain areas and speech mannerisms that cannot be copied or duplicated by any other comedian. If this wasn't present in them, they'll be off the scene in no time.

Now make no mistake, if someone comes to perform like or better than any of them in that particular area, they'll be toast.

So you need to discover your strengths, build upon it, and leverage it. That's how you can build a strong, formidable and lasting business from the ground up that'll stand the test of time.

So my friend, keep your money in the bank and do some little exercise first. It might take you 24 or 48 hours but it'll be the best time you've ever spent to discover your true self.

I hope I could help.

If you honestly need help in this area, I'll be glad to offer it.

I wish you the best.
Business / Re: Half A Million To Invest by thanz(m): 3:47pm On Jan 05, 2009
Sorry to say this but I think you are asking the wrong question. You should be very careful else you waste that money.

What you should be doing is outlining what you are very good at. What are your strengths?

What do you know?
What have you gained knowledge and experience of throughout your lifetime?
What are you very passionate about?

If you can handle these questions honestly, then I will be able to help you.

However, if you want where you can just put in the N500k, go to sleep for 6months or more and expect to get N1million or even N600k, then I can't be of any help to you.

I wish you the best.
Business / Re: I Want To Improve In My Cyber-cafe Business by thanz(m): 3:36pm On Jan 05, 2009
The ideal thing for any cafe this era is to include wireless hotspots, and if possible WiMax. You'll not be limited to give service in your area only but other areas.

Most importantly, make sure you have the right ISP that'll provide uninterrupted service for a full 30day period. This will help boost your credibility before your customers. They don't know your ISP, they know you. So if anything goes wrong, you'll take the heat.

One other thing, being technically sound is very ideal or you get a trusted person who is. This is because most problems are internal but we cafe owners have gotten used to blaming ISPs once there's a small glitch without checking our own end thoroughly. This is where bandwidth managers/monitors come in handy.

Please note: I, personally, don't trust any Nigerian ISP for now because I've dealt with some and was SERIOUSLY disappointed. The speed could be very ok but the downtimes are just too much.

I remember one bitter experience (4years ago) where our cafe went down in the early hours of the morning (b/w 8am & 10am). I called my 9ja ISP then to inquire about the problem and to my utter shock someone told me they were trying to rearrange the office and had to shut the equipment down. Can you imagine, I had customers waiting in line while my ISP was busy managing its customers from and office where they can be switched off and on at will like NEPA (PHCN).

Most foreign ISPs are great. They give you what you want, when you want but they want their payments on time too.
Computers / Re: How Can We Make A Cybercafe Gain More Money by thanz(m): 3:01pm On Jan 05, 2009
Hi,

I hope this reply is not too late. However, I think you'll still need it in order to improve the profit margins of the cafe.

First of all, I'll need answers to the following questions to enable me help you better;

1. How many functional PCs are there in the cafe?
2. What bandwidth is he using?
3. How reliable is their ISP?

While waiting for those answers from you, this is what he needs to do immediately. Choose anyone in any order below;

1. Create a "Pick & Win" Bonanza where each person that buys at least a 1hour ticket dips his/her hand into a basket to win a price. The price(s) should be more airtime (i.e. 30mins, 1hr & 3hrs tickets). Put in about 20 free tickets (3hr(4), 1hr (6), 30mins (10). The aim here is to have as many as 20 people win free tickets every day. Make sure you have up to 200 'Please Try Again' tickets in the basket. Exactly 1week to the bonanza date, start advertising within your cafe to walk-in customers that you are going to be giving out 20 free tickets everyday from a certain date(which will be your take off date) and you must give a reason for doing this which in this case will be for the Xmas celebrations (you can still use it as a New Year's gift). Don't give the details until 1day before the main day. This will create anxiety and buzz as in each customer will tell at least 2 or 3 friends.

Don't bother about the first day, you may not make much because people will be there just to see if its for real (you know us 9ja's now) but once they see people winning and most importantly, those that win will certainly tell their friends and you'll begin to notice a steady increase in sales from Mid-day of day 2.

Run this bonanza for 14days or 21days maximum.

Sorry I can't give you actual step-by-step details in this post but I hope you get the message. Now let's move on to the next idea,

2. Offer a never before seen ticket with huge amount of time for a premium fee and make that look exclusive. What I mean is this,  Have a ticket containing up to 48hours or more worth of airtime with 21days or at most 30days validity. Then put the price at N1,200 (that's like N31 per hour). Make this ticket available only between your slow hours. In my case I made it available b/w 8am - 9am only.

Now before you ask any question, let me clear something.

This ticket will be useable at any other time of the day but the customer has to buy it b/w that time frame and at least login to activate it. The reason for that is that it allows the customer to come to your cafe early and if he has to login, then he'll at least spend some of the airtime before leaving. Also it stops customers from just buying the time and leaving or worse still asking staff to buy the time and keep for them. (These are from my experiences in trying out this system.) Also I can't give entire details in this post that is why I've summarised it so you can understand.

This tactic alone made me an average of N12,000 daily b/w the hours of 8am - 9am for 2 weeks. I'm not adding what was made throughout the rest of the day.

Let me leave you with these two for now. I hope you can make good use of it.

Remember,  if you don't try it, you'll never know if it'll work in your situation. You don't have anything to loose.

I hope this helps you and any other person who'd like to implement this in his/her cafe.

I've been trying to put together an extensive manual to help fellow cafe owners improve on their cybercafe business.

The most common problems I hear about is Power, Power, Power and then that of ISPs and I totally agree that these are very serious issues but should we continue to complain and make excuses? or should we rather find solutions to the teething problems? you tell me.

I know there are lots and lots of ways to work around these and many other problems and thus make the cybercafe business what we expect it to be.

I can only share what people are interested in. So if you feel this information is useful or will be useful to you or anyone you know, then leave a comment below.

Please Note: When I talked about a manual, I don't want you to think this is a ploy to put up those N5,000 - N9,000 re-hashed reports (copied from other people's info). I'm talking about real life experiences of strategies you can put to good use right away to improve you cybercafe earnings for a premium price of free,  YES, you read that right. It'll be 100% free and the information you'll receive will blow you away.

Was this helpful? then let other cybercafe owners know about it.

Maximum Success To You & Yours in 2G9.

ITBeings,

Remember that a cheque has to be in your name or you won't cash it. The only way to get around a problem of that nature is to register a friend/relative with a separate contact address and always look to that friend/relative to cash your funds for you. YOU CAN'T have more than one google adsense account with the same name and address.

I totally understand your frustration about google banning your account but that doesn't make them ",  a thief". Their policies are simple and straightforward. It means bad business for them if 2 many clicks come from the same IP address - worse still from the IP address you used to register for the Google Adsense account. It is not google that is the problem, most of our ISPs only give out private IPs to their clients and all these IPs link to 1 Public IP. Google will not see all those private IPs but the Public IP. Like the example you gave of MultiLinks. If most of their clients are linked to one Public IP, and you register your account on a multilink network (for instance), then you have to be sure no one on that network clicks on your adsense ads or you stand a risk of getting banned. Trying to explain the Nigerian situation to Google will not help matters. All one needs to do is ask your ISP for a Public IP address (They don't come free though). A block of 8 Public IPs usually goes for about $15/month. That is what I do and it saves me all the headache. Its worth the money at the end of the day.

Now if you don't have a personal Internet Access and you intend to use public access like a cybercafe, then you need to find out its Public IP address by visiting www.showmyip.com on their network. Once you register your account and note the IP, you can then block your site(s) containing google adsense ads from opening on this IP from your domain's control panel (i.e. if you have one). If you are using a free blog, then you can do that from your google adsense account.

Now to other sources of making 'kool cash',

I know about CJ and the rest you've mentioned and they're quite good but the thing is this,  if you are not passionate about promoting products or you just can't do it, what happens? You'll give up in a little time since it is not your area of interest. You were just going into it for the quick bucks.

Google Adsense allows you to work with what you are passionate about. It mainly has to do with content generation and what almost everyone goes online to look for is information (content). If you can have the right information, for the right target market with high bid prices and can generate enough traffic, then you are on the right track to start making steady monthly income (I don't mean $400 this month and then nothing for another 5-8months). Once it starts increasing, it continues-as far as your content is valuable and you have a way of making surfers repeat their visits to your site(s). All these will be processes I'll go through.

I'm not dismissing the fact that affiliate marketing (i.e with CJ, etc) is not worth it. It is well worth it. I'm neck deep into it too. I'm only replying to a request by someone who wants to know how to make money with Google Adsense. Infact if he progresses and does very well, I'll introduce him to what I call the Google Adsense/Affiliate Marketing Combo where he will double or even triple his monthly earnings.

Google Adsense is not for everyone though but as far as Naija is concerned, it is easier and you are sure of receiving your cheques because most lucrative online merchants don't do business with Nigerians. There are ways around them but that's not the essence of this thread and I won't delve into that.

Let's just stay focused. The reason why a lot of businesses fail is because of lack of focus and I want you to get rid of that from the very beginning. Don't get into the habit of "today its this big thing, tomorrow its the next" and so on or 3-5 years from now (i.e if you can stay that long), you'll be back to square one.

In the introductory lessons, I'll help you discover your strengths, interests and talents. Then we'll get into the power of focus. Before we dive into searching for a hungry market in your area of specialization with high paying bids that'll help you work effortlessly while making money at the same time.

It is only after getting the basic information before you begin to go into what your domain name should be, keywords to use, how to write attention grabbing articles and above all how and where to insert your google adsense ads for increased clicks from your readers.

I'll let you know the entire outline when we are ready to begin.

I wish maximum success to all who read this.

Hi Newmaymurph,

Everything'll be done right here.

First of all,

- have you gone through the google adsense policies?
- Do you have a DOM account or any means of receiving your Adsense cheques when they start rolling in?
- Do you have any particular area of interest, passion, hobbies or things you do with all joy and without stress?
- Can you spare up to 10 hours a week for the next 6 - 8 weeks?

I need your honest answers to the questions above and I'd also like to know your level of experience online so as to guide me as how to prepare your lessons based on your level of experience.

Please don't feel embarrased if you know very little or nothing. The most important thing I want is determination and a will to succeed.

All lessons will be outlined gradually and you must finish one project before I introduce the next step. I'll be with you every step of the way till you make your first $100.

However, there are certain private details about your progress that I won't divulge in this forum. You may decide to do that yourself later when things start going well for you. So your privacy is totally secured (i.e. when we start the more private sessions). I don't want another person copying your exact same niche market that is why I'm saying this.

Please Note: I like to work with very serious people and since I'm not going to charge you a dime for this, I need absolute dedication and seriousness from you.

If you think you are up to it, then,

Let's begin shall we?
Webmasters / Re: How Much Do You Make Online? And How? by thanz(m): 2:39pm On Jan 04, 2008
Before talking about how to make money with the Google Adsense program, I'll like to first of all point out a very important issue, "How To Avoid Getting Banned". The write up below is based on the fact that you understand what the Google Adsense program is all about so I don't need to explain that but just incase you don't you can visit either http://www.google.com/services/adsense_tour/index.html or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AdSense

The reason for beginning like this is to help you get a grip on what not to do before ever thinking of indulging in the Adsense program because at some point (maybe out of frustration or greed) you may feel the urge to do something silly, like click on your own ads or try to do it from another IP address. This will mark the beginning of your sorrows. When anyone involves in click fraud Google looses both business and money and they frown very much at this. They had once lost a click fraud suit of $90million due to fraudulent clicks and they therefore take this as a serious offense. You MUST read their Terms of Service first of all to fully understand what they require you to do.

Also understand that once you are banned from the Adsense program, you can never be allowed to join again. Not only that, no member of your family or anyone living at your address will be allowed to. IT IS THAT SERIOUS.

That said, lets get to WHAT YOU SHOULD NOT DO.

1. Click fraud: I already mentioned this, don't try to or encourage your friend (or anyone) to help you click on your ads for any reason whatsoever.
2. Double registration: Don't try to register twice. Once you register the first time, wait until you receive a response but don't try to register again. I have a friend who was impatient and decided to register a second time. You know what, HE WAS BANNED. Till today, he still feels very bad about it. Especially when I receive my cheques.

These are the very important DON'TS you should not but there are just the few policies. You can read more at https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=48182&sourceid=aso&subid=ww-ww-et-asui&medium=link

That being out of the way, the next vital thing you should do is HOW TO RECEIVE YOUR MONEY HERE IN NAIJA. Get a domiciliary account from any bank. I have one with UBA. All I did was get their mastercard and they opened a domiciliary account for me. Without this account you won't be able to cash your Google cheques when you start receiving them. Note that it takes approximately one month for your cheque to clear.

Google starts issuing cheques for the previous month on the 15th of the present month so you'll expect to receive you cheques towards the end of the month. Another important issue is that you should request your cheque to be sent via the secured express delivery (they charge $28.00 processing fee for that) if not you might never receive it. My first cheque which was sent via standard delivery never came and I had to write to Google to cancel the cheque after 2months of waiting and issue a new one via the secured express delivery method and guess what, it arrived in 3 days from the date of issue. Thank God nobody had received the first cheque and cashed the money before then.

Once you have a dom account and understand Google's policies, its time to dive into the program and start making some money.

But wait,

Don't expect to be rich over night. It just doesn't happen that way, but rest assured you can start building gradually and start earning from $100 and above in your first 60 days if you know what to do or 90 - 180 days if you are slow.

I think I may have written a lot already but I'm motivated to write more and actually start a thread on a step-by-step guide for anyone who's interested.

I only want to know if enough people are interested in getting the strategies and tools required to build a Google Adsense business from the ground up.

If you are interested, please leave a comment below this post. Don't bother to email me, I want as many people as possible to get in on this info. And don't worry, I won't ask you to call for more info or send me an email for more info where I'll ask you to pay for that info. What I intend to do is help you make your first $100 first with the program then we can begin to talk about the advanced strategies (which will not be FREE of course). If I can help you start making from $100 and above monthly and then ask you to pay for Advanced strategies to help you make even more, won't that be great? (abi I no for try?). If I can't help you, I don't see any need to ask for your money at the beginning.

Again if you are interested, I want to see comments below. Enough to keep me motivated.

More success to all.
