Your answer is simple. Because He is GOD. He will not do for man what He has given man the ability to do. You cannot fathom the ways of GOD. At least while you are still on this plane of the Universe. There is a finite amount of wisdom that exists on Earth and the wisdom required to understand GOD in totality does not exist. That is why the wisest of Philosophers and Scientists can't even decipher GOD and they enter into confusion when they put reason above faith. Solomon in all his wisdom didn't. Cos he was not perfect. No perfect wisdom exist on Earth. Only on the other side of life will we understand all things |

Rozz:What does the Bible say? What does God say? The moment you decide to leave what God has clearly stated in his word for what you think or what Men think, you begin to lose it. Why do you engage in arguments with JW in the first place? That is an unwise way to expend precious energy. |

Kobojunkie:Fruit as used in the context does not mean 'Fruits of the Spirit', as listed by Paul. I believe the Spirit of God gives these gifts, but the actual fruits come from having the Spirit lead. For those who have the gifts of the spirit, but are ruled by their sinful self, living the way the sinful self wants, spiritual death will eventually happen, according to Paul(RomansSpeaking of tongues as it is practised in most churches of today is more of a mechanical action than anything spiritual. I don't believe it has anything to do with a church, after all, God does not bow to the whims of a mere gathering of men. The Holy Spirit, who is God Himself, gives His gift to whomever He wants to whenever He wants to. And this particular gift is not even to the benefit of any church, so speaking it in church is nothing but chaos as Paul himself described in 1 Corinthians 14 On the contrary, the church has a direct effect on the people who belong to it, so, the practices of (the people) who make up the church has everything to do with the church as a whole. Pentecostal churches of today and most new generation churches for example, speak in tongues in the church and encourage their members to do likewise which is wrong. They attribute it to signify the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, ie a sign of spiritual growth/baptism of the Holy spirit. In other words, you cannot claim to have the holy Spirit without the evidence (of speaking in tongues) There are Churches however, who do not subscribe to speaking in tongues. A Pastor of a popular church I had a conversation with a while ago said that a Church that doesn't believe in speaking in Tongues cannot be a progressive church. An assertion I do not subscribe to. |

Kobojunkie:Some people believe that Speaking of tongues is one of the ways to identify fruitfulness and spiritual growth in a Christian or in a Christian body. On the other hand, some school of thought think otherwise. The reason here is to find out from either side of the coin. If indeed it is a sign of growth, does that imply that people or bodies who don't subscribe to it either individually or corporately, are not growing spiritually in the real sense of it? The act is individual! not sure how the church people influence the meaning of the individual act in any wayOh yes it has. It is individual agreed, but If the church you attend believes in the speaking in tongues doctrine and practices it, you will most likely also. Also, if you attend a church that doesn't, you cannot exercise your speaking in tongues in the church environment even if you have the ability/practice it. |

Say the truth, that isn't the actual problem! Your problem here is NOT the fact that you feel ashamed whenever you see posts from a twitter page. In fact, you are ashamed of your identity as a Nigerian BECAUSE of your problem. Do you know what that problem is? If yes, fine. No go do some thinking, do something about it. If not... Then..... ....That is another problem itself ![]() |

Gidah:Yes. A simple question. Answer it. Are you? You are the ignorant one here. Did an 'Alfa' write the 'scripture'?? If you say you are a Muslim, then follow Allah completely. Why be selective with your islamic practice? Why practice only what suites you? Times have changed, so what? As it was in the beginning, so it shall be. You say Allah is merciful so you should deliberately disobey? Be deceiving yourself there 1 Like |

The issue of speaking in tongues is one topic that cannot be over exhausted due to the differences in practice among members of the Christian body and Pentecostal churches. I know a number of Churches that practice it and a few that don't. Matthew 7:16-17 NIV "By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? [17] Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit" Now if indeed speaking in Tongues as it is practised in Pentecostal churches today is of God and is indeed right, in relation to the verses above, what fruits has it produced in such churches/ the members? If it is indeed an erroneous doctrine, has the lack of the speaking in tongues in Churches where they are not spoken affected the growth of such churches, or are such churches flourishing (spiritually), notwithstanding? Nairalanders, what church do you attend and do you speak in Tongues in your church? Why/why not? Over to you. Let's discuss. 1 Like |

Imagine if "Twitter" or "Facebook" was owned and operated the way Seun runs Nairaland. That is why the forum is still at the level it is. He lost my respect the moment he bowed to religious prejudice due to pressure from the Islamists. You may wonder what he/they are trying to protect. You support freedom of speech and are against the social media bill, right? But cannot implement such on your own forum due to your own hidden fears ![]() We are really not different from the politicians we often criticise. 4 Likes 2 Shares |
