Just today, Globacom launched Glo free data day 24 HOURS OF DATA for a full day!

To enjoy the Free Data Day, subscribers are required to spend N250 or more on calls within 7 days to a free data dayor spend at least N150 on calls and use a minimum of 100MB of data within 7 days to the free data day from any or a combination of methods such as Pay as you use, purchase of data plan and usage from existing data plan.

The company also announced the launch of Glo Welcome Back, an offer which gives customers who have not used the Glo network in the last 30 days with free N6000 credit when they recharge their lines. The credit can be used to browse, send SMS and make calls to Glo customers. Subscribers are required to make a recharge of between N100 and N1,000 to access the free N6,000 airtime.
Details of the offer show that subscribers can access the free airtime based on the amount of recharge made subject to a maximum of N6,000. “For example, a recharge of N100 gives the subscriber N600 bonus airtime which is deducted from the FREE N6,000. The bonus N600 is made up of N500 for Voice and N100 for data with 50MB data volume. If the same subscriber makes a second recharge of N500, he gets a bonus credit of N3,000 made up of N2,500 Voice credit and N500 data bonus with 250MB data volume. This is deducted from the balance of N5400 left of the N6,000 FREE Airtime. The subscriber will now have N2,400 left in the FREE Airtime account which can be accessed when the next recharge is made,”

IT IS REDUCED OLY IF YOU LEAVE THE CURRENT RATE. IF YOU STAY IN THE CYCLE, YOU WILL ENJOY CURRENT RATES OF DOUBLE DATA FOREVER. IF YOU DON'T RENEW AND LEAVE THE RENEWAL CYCLE YOU WILL DROP TO THE HALVED PLAN. SO THERE ARE CONDITIONS THAT KEEP YOU ON FOREVER. IF YOU BUY A NEW SIM THOUGH, YOU GET THE DOUBLE DATA FOR 90 AND IF YOU RENEW OU DON'T LOSE THAT AS WELL.

This is madness!!! And them no even tell us. I know this is the handwork of those poop jobs at Ncc I was actually expecting it since their first effort failed woefully they had to silently implement it. Since this new guy took over Ncc I can't even tell whose interest he is protecting ours or the telcos. Everything in this country is just designed to frustrate the citizens. Technology is improving and data price is reducing in saner climes, the reverse is the case down here.

I first subscribe 100 around 9am today den later subscribe for 1 month plan 1.6gb.... But the 1 month plan will expire before the 100. How can 1 month plan expires the same day i subscribe it? And how did i get 1.5gb for just 100 daily subscription? I don't understand o. Pls how can u explain this

From what i'm reading the issue of reduced data plan is not TRUE i think you would still enjoy the same volumes when you have continuous subscription because of you look at there website these are the major points

A. New Customers would get Double Volume
B. All Existing Customers who will have continuous subscription of data plans would also continue to enjoy the Double Volume.
C. There would be a grace period of 72 hours to still enjoy the benefits of continuous subscription.
D. Customers who fail to renew their data plans within 72 hours of the Expiry of their Data Plans would get HALF the Data Volume.
E.The Benefits of continuous subscription would give volume advantage

DON'T LET YOUR PLAN EXPIRE AND THE HUGE DATA VOLUME IS MAINTAINED AND NOT GOING ANYWHERE

I'm really surprised no one noticed the sudden increase in data subscription by all networks in Nigeria. Mtn, airtel, etisalat have all reduced the 3gb for N1000 data to 1.5gb recently. Glo is only following suit.

There must have been a silent directive or somtin, probably from NCC as usual (my thought doh), Because they all seem to be unified on dis.

They decided to do it quietly since the first attempt failed woefully....It's a pity though!

Events / Glomegamusictour |phyno, Olamide, Flavour Others Shutdown Owerri For 7 Hours by TheMotha: 8:43am On Apr 26, 2017
- It was "operation Seven Seven" as the grandmasters of data, Globacom, on Saturday assembled seven of Nigeria’s most celebrated music icons to unleash seven hours of zestful music on the residents of Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

Compered by the duo of West Africa’s movie divas, Juliet Ibrahim from Ghana and Mercy Johnson Okojie of the famous Nollywood, the Owerri edition of the show, was a class act.

‘If you Ask me’ crooner, Omawumi and her salsa savvy band opened the floodgate of entertainment for the night as she reeled out tracks after tracks from her inexhaustible repertoire of music.
She was followed by the Queen of Afropop, Yemi Alade, announced her presence on the stage with her hit track, Charlie and by the time she moved from Tangerine and Pose, to Kissing, Ferrari and Taking over me, the expansive hall was in a frenzy.

Runtown was the next act of the night and the master of dance hall proved that he is indeed a master of the stage. The dandy artiste got the entire crowd on its feet throughout his nerve-sapping performance of is hits like ‘Mad over You and Gallardo

Igbo ethno-rapper and songsmith, Phyno was who two weeks ago joined the league of Brand Ambassadors of Globacom was next. The Fada Fada originator, held the crowd spellbound with his hit tracks. A member of the audience simply identified as Gift, went into frenzy on sighting the fair-complexioned music star and passed out. When she regained her consciousness, she kept screaming that she wanted to see Phyno. The iconic musician took selfies with her after his performance.

While the momentum kept growing, Globacom dropped Flavour Nabania on the crowd and the excitement knew no limit. Flavour spared no efforts at showing why he remains the lady's man. The light-skinned and dreadlocked artiste wowed the crowd with various melodious songs from Professor Johnbull to Golibe, Baby Oku and numerous others.

Then came the King of the Streets, Olamide, who took the show to its crescendo. The crowd lost count of the number of hit tracks Olamide dropped in quick succession. Among the hit songs the Shakiti Bobo rapper rendered were Shoki, Pepper Dem Gang and Don’t Stop. Interestingly too, like it happened penultimate week in Awka, the young music buffs from the South East sang all the tracks enthusiastically along with him.

The duo of Peter and Paul Okoye, the inimitable twins of PSquare fame closed the night of fun with a 5 star performance. For close to one hour, PSquare displayed why they remain relevant even after 19 years of magic in the nation's entertainment sphere. The pair kept the massive crowd on their feet with tracks like Busybody, Personally and the recent Bank Alert ¬hit to end their performance a few minutes before 2am on Sunday.

The show, the Glo Mega Music Nationwide Tour was held at the International Conference Centre, ICC, Owerri and was attended by top government functionaries, members of the paramilitary forces, business tycoons in the city and environs and other socialites, who savoured raw entertainment supplied by world-class artistes and celebrities. The trio of Angela Okorie, a new generation of Nollywood stars; the matriarch of Nollywood, Patience Ozokwor (Mama G) and the ageless Baby Boy of Nollywood, Richard Mofe-Damijo, RMD were the guest celebrities at the event.

Among the dignitaries who attended the show were the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, Imo State Police Command, Mr. Tony Okpara, the Special Assistant to Imo State Governor on Protocol and Entertainment, Hon Uchenna Ebochuo, the Sterling Bank, Owerri Branch management comprising Lynda Ikezuagwu, Benita Orajiaka, Mega Okpara, Nelly Ukwunna and Lisa Ekpeki and a host of other dignitaries.

Ikechukwu Obioma, a student of the Federal University of Owerri, FUTO, summed up his experience at the show by saying "only Globacom could have done this; they don’t disappoint", just as Ifunaya Odabara, a self-employed graduate of Economics from Imo State university, Owerri said: "I am used to this type of show from Glo. I was here two years ago when Glo had a show like this but I can say that this night is just too much".

The next stop for the Glo Mega Music Nationwide Tour is Asaba, Delta State, where fun seekers in the city will be treated to another dose of complete entertainment at the Event Centre on Saturday, April 29.

Glo subscribers and others wishing to attend the Asaba edition of the show are enjoined to buy Glo SIM cards, activate and load N2,000 on the SIM. Similarly, existing subscribers are expected to use up to N2,000 within one month and text MUSIC and preferred location to short code 207 such as "MUSIC Asaba" to 2017.

Celebrities / The Day Kanayo O Kanayo And Victor Osuagwu Paid Homage To Rmd by TheMotha: 1:36pm On Apr 21, 2017
The duo of Kanayo O. Kanayo and Victor Osuagwu gained more admiration in the sight of their fans when they openly paid homage to veteran thespian and Nollywood ‘darling’ RMD at the Port Harcourt edition of the Globacom Mega Comedy Show, Glo Laffta Fest.

The high profile event was in full swing when the show anchors, delectable Juliet Ibrahim and Ebube Nwagbo called on RMD to present Glo goody bags to the winners of a dance competition.

Before the presentation, they wanted RMD to dance and give them the ‘Obama Walk’, a recreation of the famous regal stride and convivial mannerism of former US President Barack Obama. RMD assured them he would please them in due course, but he would first like to go ahead with the task of presenting the winners with their prizes.

However, upon their insistence, RMD delivered a perfect recreation of Obama Walk, attracting applause from the audience. Juliet wanted more, and when she wasn’t getting it, she called on KOK to come on stage to ‘show RMD how it’s done’.

KOK climbed the stage, collected the mike and said: “How can a child teach his father how to go to school?” attracting laughter and wild applause from the audience.

Juliet won’t back down. She turned to Victor, who jumped up and theatrically walked up the stage as if he was eager to do Juliet’s bidding.

But on stage, he also told Juliet RMD was a distinguished pioneer in whose footsteps he and many others were following. He would also not do the Obama Walk. He also received wild applause from the audience for his decision and humble disposition.

The two mega stars openly paid homage to RMD, and made to return to their seats, but RMD insisted they should join him to present the prizes.
All three Nollywood greats left the stage in high spirit with their fans hailing them loudly.

Nairaland / General / Re: New Environmental Law Will Guarantee Lagosians' Right To Cleaner, Safer Environ by TheMotha: 9:22am On Mar 19, 2017
When does this kick off?

Lana007:

Majekodunmi, who lauded Governor Ambode’s vision of ensuring that every person living in Lagos has a right to clean, safe and healthy environments, said the new law is a consolidation of what started few years ago which is aimed at putting Lagos where it ought to be and make Lagosians to live in a normal, healthy environment.

The new environmental law makes it an offence for any person or group of persons to dump any toxic waste capable of causing harm in the state while all emissions from vehicles, plants and equipment including generating plants in residential, commercial and industrial areas within the State must now meet air emission standard

The new law further stipulates that no manufacturing of chemicals, lubricants, petroleum products, cement (except for use in construction), gases or quarry takes place in a residential premise. It posits that any manufacturers of such items will procure an insurance policy from an approved insurance company.

In the new law, every owner or occupier of a facility who uses, stores, keeps and maintains an underground storage tanks and surface storage tanks shall register such tanks with the enforcing authority while a facility monitoring and inspection exercise will be carried out on all sites with surface or underground tanks periodically to determine the integrity of the facility involved. Soil test of the immediate environment will also be carried out to validate the integrity of the soil

The Lagos State Government said violators of the laws will face stiff penalties which include heavy fines which ranges from N250,000 to N5,000,000 and/or imprisonment.

Also, under the new law, it is an offence to engage in street trading along the major highways and streets of Lagos and sell in an unapproved market in Lagos while every owner, tenant and occupier of any shop, kiosks, space or stall in any market within the State shall on regular basis ensure the cleanliness of his or her space

It is also mandatory for every commercial vehicle in the State to carry a litter bin for the use of passengers in order to prevent passengers from throwng waste onto the streets from commercial vehicle. The law stipulates that if a commercial driver fails to provide the litter bin, the driver will be penalized alongside the passenger or the occupier of the vehicle who commits the offenc

The new law has also empowered the Lagos State government to demolish any structures on sewage systems without approval. It also made it mandatory for anyone who wants to sink borehole or any structure connected with the supply of water to obtain permit from the office of drainage services in order to ensure compliance with standards.

The new environmental law also sets up the Lagos State Environmental Trust Fund will be independently managed by an SEC (Stock Exchange Commission) regulated Board of Trustee with the aim of promoting the development and improvement of the state's environmental performance and sustainability. This will create a system that can attract funds from persons, organizations and authorities required to tackle environmental issues as well as fund and promote the creation of job opportunities for youths in waste management and waste recycling among others.
Jobs/Vacancies / Lagos State to Create 27,500 Jobs Through Community Sanitation by TheMotha: 4:20pm On Mar 04, 2017
On Wednesday March 1, 2017, Lagos state Governor Mr Akinwunmi signed the Environmental Management Protection bill into law.

Governor Ambode said that under the Cleaner Lagos Initiative, the commercial sector would be serviced by licensed waste management operators while an environmental consortium will provide waste collection, processing and disposal services for residential properties through a long term concession. Over the concession period, the consortium would be deploying a large multi-dimensional fleet of over 20 landfill and transfer loading station management vehicles, 590 new rear-end loader compactors, 140 Operational vehicles and close to 900,000 new bins to all be electronically tracked and monitored by our new unit PUMAU (Public Utilities Monitoring Assurance Unit) under the Ministry of Environment.

Governor Ambode also added that aside the fact that the initiative would create at least 27,500 jobs, the Community Sanitation Workers (CSW) who would be engaged will receive several incentives including tax reliefs and healthcare, life, injury and accident insurance benefits all aimed at tackling the issue of poverty and the chronic unemployment crisis.

“Everyone from the cart pushers to the existing PSPs and casual workers at the dumpsites have been considered in the plan and will be accommodated within the new environmental regime. In addition, we are extending opportunities to everyone along the value chain by working to create vocational training in the related areas through LASTVEB,” he said.

Giving details of the law, the Governor said that sanitation will now be a daily affair in the State while the CSWs would be deployed in every ward across the State. He also said that an annual Public Utility Levy (PUL) would be introduced to replace all service fees previously paid to the Waste Management authorities, adding that the public was carried along in determining the rates, which according to him is relatively low. “ The money will be held in the Environmental Trust Fund and managed meticulously by a Board of SEC regulated trustees. “The trustees are under strict obligations to the people of Lagos and will be accountable to the people for every naira we spend in line with our overall environmental agenda. Compliance is the key.

The burden of the cost of providing these services will remain low if everyone does their part and pays their PUL. “With the newly positioned LASECORPS, we will work within the community to enforce the new laws. The State will have a zero-tolerance policy for offenders because simply put, disregarding payment of your PUL or flouting the new regulations ultimately promotes activities that lead to the loss of lives,” Governor Ambode said. Earlier, the Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on the Environment, Hon Saka Fafunmi, commended the Governor for his passion to evolve the environmental laws in the State, saying that the Law would ensure a cleaner, safer and more prosperous Lagos.
