The perks of sex extend well beyond the bedroom.

Sex not only feels good. It can also be good for you. Here’s what a healthy sex life can do for you.

1. Helps Keep Your Immune System Humming
“Sexually active people take fewer sick days,” says Yvonne K. Fulbright, PhD a sexual health expert.

People who have sex have higher levels of what defends your body against germs, viruses, and other intruders. Researchers at Wilkes University in Pennsylvania found that college students who had sex once or twice a week had higher levels of the a certain antibody compared to students who had sex less often.

You should still do all the other things that make your immune system happy, such as:

Eat right.
Stay active.
Get enough sleep.
Keep up with your vaccinations.
Use a condom if you don’t know both of your STD statuses.

2. Boosts Your Libido
Longing for a more lively sex life? “Having sex will make sex better and will improve your libido,” says Lauren Streicher, MD. She is an assistant clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago.

For women, having sex ups vaginal lubrication, blood flow, and elasticity, she says, all of which make sex feel better and help you crave more of it.

3. Improves Women's Bladder Control
A strong pelvic floor is important for avoiding incontinence, something that will affect about 30% of women at some point in their lives.

Good sex is like a workout for your pelvic floor muscles. When you have an orgasm, it causes contractions in those muscles, which strengthens them.

4. Lowers Your Blood Pressure
Research suggests a link between sex and lower blood pressure, says Joseph J. Pinzone, MD. He is CEO and medical director of Amai Wellness.

“There have been many studies,” he says. “One landmark study found that sexual intercourse specifically (not masturbation) lowered systolic blood pressure.” That's the first number on your blood pressure test.

5. Counts as Exercise
“Sex is a really great form of exercise,” Pinzone says. It won’t replace the treadmill, but it counts for something.

Sex uses about five calories per minute, four more calories than watching TV. It gives you a one-two punch: It bumps up your heart rate and uses various muscles.

So get busy! You may even want to clear your schedule to make time for it on a regular basis. “Like with exercise, consistency helps maximize the benefits,” Pinzone says.

6. Lowers Heart Attack Risk
A good sex life is good for your heart. Besides being a great way to raise your heart rate, sex helps keep your estrogen and testosterone levels in balance.

“When either one of those is low you begin to get lots of problems, like osteoporosis and even heart disease,” Pinzone says.

Having sex more often may help. During one study, men who had sex at least twice a week were half as likely to die of heart disease as men who had sex rarely.

Here’s a condom that will show your partner’s true colors.

Three students took home first prize in the health category at the U.K.’s TeenTech Awards on Tuesday for inventing a condom that changes colors if it comes into contact with a sexually transmitted infection. A layer of molecules in the condom, dubbed the S.T.Eye, attach to bacteria and viruses associated with common STIs and the reaction then causes the condom to emit one of four colors, MTV reported.

Health / 10 Benefits Of A Good Night Sleep by theomeka: 4:01am On Aug 06, 2015
Here are 10 reasons why getting a good night's shut eye will set you up for a brighter day.

1 Keep your figure

Watching your weight can be as simple as getting a good night's sleep. Lack of sleep can make you put on weight by drastically slowing your metabolism down, according to a study by scientists at Uppsala University in Sweden. The researchers suggested getting plenty of sleep might prevent weight gain.

2. You can concentrate better

We have all woken up after a good night's sleep ready to take on the world. But IKEA's Slumber Survey found one in three Australians rate their sleep as 'poor' to 'terrible'. A bad night's sleep can leave you struggling all day. More than half of us will have problems concentrating after sleeping badly, according to a survey by shopping channel QVC.

3. You'll be in a great mood

Nearly two thirds of people blame lack of sleep when they feel irritable, according to the QVC survey.
IKEA spokesman Angela McCann says: "It's unsurprising only 1% of those asked in the Slumber Survey claim to feel fantastic when they wake up. The lack of sleep and the ensuing tiredness is likely impacting on people's judgment, problem-solving and creativity."

4. You'll look more attractive

Regular shut-eye actually makes you look healthier and more attractive, according to a 2010 study published in the British Medical Journal. Researchers photographed 23 people after a period of sleep deprivation and after a normal night's sleep of eight hours. The photos were shown to 65 people who rated each photo based on health attractiveness and tiredness. The sleep deprived group scored lower in all three categories.

5. Ability to make better informed decisions

We've all heard of sleeping on a problem, in the hope that come morning the solution will be clear. Well scientists have found that when you do this your brain still looks for a solution, even when you're asleep. Even if you don't wake up with an answer, a good night's sleep will equip your brain to assess the problem afresh.

6. You'll live longer

Regularly sleeping less than you should is associated with a shorter lifespan, although it is not clear whether little sleep is the cause, or an effect of other illnesses. Studies have found people who routinely sleep for fewer than six hours a night have a higher risk of dying sooner than people of a similar age who sleep for seven or eight hours a night.

Stop a scratched CD or DVD from skipping

If your favorite disc just won't play smoothly, fix it with a banana peel. To do: Rub the back of the disc in a gentle circular motion with the inside of the peel. Wipe off any residue with a soft cloth, then lightly spray the disc with glass cleaner and buff it until it looks clean. The wax in the peel will fill in scratches without harming the plastic finish, so the disc can play sans skips.

Swiftly lift ink stains from skin

Thanks to an exploded pen, you've got ink-covered hands—and soap and water aren't doing the trick. To the rescue: banana peels! Rub the white side onto the discolored areas and watch the stains disappear. The natural oils in the peel will attract the oils in the ink, weakening the pigment's bond with the skin for easy removal.

Soothes skin irritation
Summer is coming to a close, but it seems the mosquitoes have yet to get the memo—the critters are still biting you. For fast, chemical-free relief from an itchy bite, rub the inside of a banana peel against the inflamed area. The peels are full of polysaccharides, which will seep into skin cells to halt swelling and inflammation within minutes.

Whitens teeth

No need to spend a fortune on professional whitening strips—let banana peels do the job instead. Simply rub the inner white side of a peel against your freshly brushed teeth for about 2 minutes every day. The combination of plaque-busting, astringent salicylic acid and gently bleaching citric acid in banana peels will effectively lighten surface stains on teeth without wearing down the enamel. With this trick, you'll have bright pearly whites within a week!

Pest free gardening

it is very good in avoiding pests from damaging your crops and many more!

Politics / Kaduna To Disburse N2 Billion Interest-free Loan To Boost Rice Production by theomeka: 11:25pm On Aug 02, 2015
Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i of Kaduna State on Sunday said the state had received a N2 billion soft loan for onward disbursement to rice farmers– to boost its production in the state.

Mr. El-Rufa’i said this during the 2nd town hall meeting in Zaria. He advised the rice farmers to access the loan to improve their revenue base, as his administration had put measures in place to pay off the interest rate.

The town hall meeting is a periodic gathering, organised by the state government with a view to interacting with the electorate.

The governor said each state of the federation was given N2 billion to enhance rice production to enable the country become self-sufficient in rice production.

“It is disheartening to note that Nigeria spends N200 billion on rice importation; but with this new development, it will soon be a thing of the past.”

He promised to revive cotton farming in the state, as part of efforts to facilitate the revitalization of industries.

On recent workers’ screening exercise, the governor said about N120 million that would have gone via ghost workers was recovered.

Mr. El-Rufa’i advised people who erected residential buildings on government premises to vacate such places before the expiration of the given dateline, to avoid any form of embarrassment.

“Those who erected structures on Alhudahuda College premises should note that Wednesday August 5 is the dateline and there is no going back. Anybody who fails to remove his/her structures should not blame the government.”

He appealed to people to criticise him positively saying “criticism will enable me to correct my mistakes and do more for the people.”

Contributions, questions and answers were entertained during the session.

Maiduguri, Nigeria: Boko Haram fighters killed 13 people in an attack on Malari village in northeast Nigeria's restive Borno state early Sunday, witnesses said.

Local farmer Moha Saleh said 27 people were also injured in the attack, which began when the Islamist militants stormed the village at around 1:00 am (0000 GMT).

"They also set many houses ablaze after accusing us of telling soldiers their whereabouts," he told AFP.

Family / 10 Ways To Reduce Hair Loss Or Breakage by theomeka: 10:20pm On Aug 02, 2015
We’ve all dealt with at one time or another. Breakage happens…

Although it’s nearly impossible to completely eliminate breakage there are some preventative measures that you can take.

Breaking Behavior

There are 3 common types of breakage: mechanical/manual (breakage from combing or manipulating hair), physical (breakage caused by heat appliances or physical elements such as winter air), and chemical (breakage caused by chemical treatments such as relaxers, Brazilian blow outs, or Kertain Treatments.

What’s important to remember is anything in excess can potential damage and break hair. But if you notice more breakage or any hair loss, assess your routine and eliminate the hair breaking behavior.

2. Learn the Best Ways to Handle Your Hair
As my hair gets longer, I have to make gradual changes to care for my hair. That means preventing breakage by sometimes pre-pooing (pre-shampoo treatment) with coconut oil, using olive & coconut oil for an oil rinse, and shampooing my hair in twists or plaits. Experiment with extra measures to minimize breakage in your hair.

3. Deep Condition Regularly
I deep condition my hair almost weekly to add an extra boost of moisture and breakage prevention. After deep conditioning you will notice less breakage and shedding.

4. Detangle Damp Hair Not Wet Hair
Hair is its most fragile when wet. If you have highly textured hair that tangles easily, its best to lightly mist hair and detangle with a wide tooth comb before shampooing. Shampooing in plaits or jumbo twists also prevents tangles and breakage.

5. Trim Those Dead Ends
I know if seems counterproductive when you’re trying to grow your hair. But removing split ends is the only way to prevent further damage on other parts of the same hair strand where split ends are present. Whether you “search and destroy”, “dust”, or allow a professional stylist to trim your hair, it will help keep it in optimal shape and decrease breakage.

6. Choose The Best Detangling Tool
There are tons of detangling tools and some are better than others when it comes to detangling with little or no damage at all.

7. Moisturize Your Hair As Needed
Hair needs the perfect balance of moisture and protein to remain healthy or breakage. Hydrated hair is not easily broken. If you notice popping of hair strands, that’s a good sign that moisture is needed.

Family / How To Suppress Constipation by theomeka: 9:48pm On Aug 02, 2015
Treatment for constipation depends on the cause, how long you have had the condition and how severe your symptoms are.

In many cases it is possible to relieve symptoms through dietary and lifestyle changes.

Some ways you can help treat your constipation are listed below.

1. Increase your daily intake of fibre. You should eat at least 18-30g of fibre a day. High-fibre foods include fruit, vegetables and cereals.
2. Avoid dehydration by drinking plenty of water.
3. Try to get more exercise, for example by going for a daily walk or run.
4. If your constipation is causing pain or discomfort, you may want to take a painkiller such as paracetamol. Make sure you always follow
the dosage instructions carefully. Children under 16 years of age should not take aspirin.
5. Work out a routine of a place and a time of day when you are comfortably able to spend time on the toilet. Respond to your bowel's natural pattern: when you feel the urge, do not delay.
Try resting your feet on a low stool while going to the toilet, so that your knees are above your hips, as this can make it easier to pass stools.
If medication you are taking could be causing constipation, your GP may be able to prescribe an alternative.
Pregnancy or breastfeeding

If you are pregnant, there are ways for you to safely treat constipation without harming you or your baby. Your GP will first advise you to change your diet by increasing fibre and fluid intake. You will also be advised to do gentle exercise.

If dietary and lifestyle changes do not work, you may be prescribed a laxative to help you pass stools more regularly.

Lots of laxatives are safe for pregnant women to use because most are not absorbed by the digestive system. This means that your baby will not feel the effects of the laxative.

Stretch marks appear more often when become pregnant. This is as a result of the abdomen stretching out to accommodate a growing belly.

It is possible to prevent and reduce it if you start early in the pregnancy.

The following tips will help you.

1. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.

2. Eat food containing vitamin A, which repairs skin tissues. They include Carrots, sweet potatoes, mango etc.

3. Increase your intake of foods containing Omega 3s, which keep cell membranes healthy. They include Fish, Walnuts, eggs etc.

4. Stay hydrated. This simply means drinking plenty of water. Water helps to detoxify your body and keeps your skin cells plump. Eat fruits rich in water such as water melon.

5. Pregnancy makes a lot of women gain weight. Let it be gradual rather than fast.

6. Ensure that you moisturizes your skin.

7. Minimise your exposure to the sun.

Family / Treatment For Cough by theomeka: 10:31pm On Aug 01, 2015
1. Stop breathing through your mouth and breathe only through your nose.

2. While performing the first step, count eight seconds between each breath.

3. Repeat this method for at least four to 5 minutes.

4. Apply Vicks VapoRub on the soles of your feet.

5. Put socks on your feet, and lay in a relaxed position for at least five minutes.

6. Walk around if the cough persists

Other methods

1. Drink plenty of water. The fluid will help flush out harmful bacteria or viruses and keep your throat moist. Suck on cough lozenges or hard candies. This will moisten your dry, scratchy throat

2. Drink herbal tea, or lemon juice and hot water, with a spoonful of honey mixed in. The hot liquid will loosen the mucus in your throat and the honey will coat your throat and suppress the cough

3. Chew on a piece of ginger with salt sprinkled on it. Ginger will coat and reduce the irritation to your throat

4. Gargle with a mixture of water and salt. The salt will disinfect your mouth and clear the passageway to your throat for easier breathing.

· Make sure you don't swallow the salt water.

5. Mix a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar into a cup of water and drink it. Vinegar works as an anti-inflammatory and antiseptic on your throat

6. Breathe in the steam from a hot shower or vaporizer. Steam moistens the air and loosens the mucus in your throat

visit your doctor for proper medical check up if the cough persists.
