Before the 1960s, rice was never a staple in any part of Nigeria. However with the new found independence, companies like Maggi, Royco had to advertise their product with a new food item and one of those was Rice. This was a time when watching Televisions was a luxury for kids. Watching the adverts in those days, Rice must have become more or less their future ambition, to work hard so that one day they could eat rice every Sunday. Fast forward to the time of Jonathan and Obasanjo when excess oil money was used to cover for the growing local taste for rice without any proper actuation of local rice production or generating alternative foreign exchange to oil. Now that the Oil blurr is more or less almost over , it is time for counter Propaganda in Cassava, Yam and Corn consumption, otherwise we stand at a loss with our population projected to be the second largest in the world in the next 100 years. The other alternative is to just get good at producing top quality rice for the populace to tap into this already made market or generate other means of foreign exchange for our beloved rice.

What we need for now is to glorify the STEM fields. The arts are important but they should only help us sustain a stem based society |

For such a kid as in the picture, I wonder what future awaits him. It will take a miracle for him to win a Nobel price for instance. 8 Likes 2 Shares |
