The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the ongoing Osun election, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed concern over the functionality of card readers in the process.

He raised this concern after casting his vote at Polling Unit 9, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government on Saturday.

Mr Adeleke voted some minutes after 8a.m.

Speaking with journalists after exercising his right, he asserted his optimism at victory while raising concern over the card readers.

He said, “I hope the card readers work because it took process before the card reader started working. So far so good, it’s been peaceful.

“We’ll have a fair election. I’m very optimistic that I’m going to win this election.”

Sports / Kepa Arrizabalaga To Chelsea: All You Need To Know About Him by thereturnoflucy(m): 1:57pm On Aug 08, 2018
Born in Ondarroa, Biscay, Basque Country, Arrizabalaga joined Athletic Bilbao’s youth setup at Lezama in 2004, aged ten. He made his senior debut with the farm team in January 2012, in Tercera División.

On 5 May 2012, Arrizabalaga was called up to the main squad for a La Liga match against Getafe CF, but remained unused in the 0–0 draw at the San Mamés Stadium.

He made his debut for the B-side on 16 February 2013, keeping a clean sheet in a 1–0 win over UD Logroñés for the Segunda División B championship.

Arrizabalaga appeared regularly for the B’s before he was loaned to Segunda División’s SD Ponferradina until June.

He finally made his professional debut on the 11th, starting in a 1–1 home draw against Racing de Santander.

On 20 July 2015, Arrizabalaga moved to Real Valladolid also in the second tier, in a season-long loan deal, where he played his first competitive game.

The loan deal served him well when he returned to Atheltic Bilbao in 2016 and became their first-choice goalkeeper in Ernesto Valverde’s final year in charge. The current Barcelona coach awarded him his debut in La Liga away to Deportivo La Coruna and was soon praising his “great maturity” in the role.

“He has some things that he knows he has to improve,” said Valverde later that season, after Kepa had helped Athletic qualify for Europe. “But he is a goalkeeper with good reflexes, a great presence and a great confidence that he transmits to others.” In November 2017, he duly made his senior debut for Spain in a 5-0 win over Costa Rica.

On 22 January 2018, amidst heavy transfer speculation linking him to Real Madrid, Arrizabalaga renewed his contract – due to expire in June – until 2025.

In the early hours of August 8, 2018, news circulated in the media that Kepa was set to join Chelsea after the English side activated his release clause.

Chelsea agreed to pay a world record £71 million to sign Athletic Bilbao’s goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

With Courtois trying to force a move to Real Madrid by going, the blues have taken drastic action by paying Kepa’s Athletic Bilbao buy-out clause ahead of Thursday’s Premier League transfer deadline.

The deal which has been greeted by widespread astonishment would eclipse the £66.8m Liverpool paid Roma to make Alisson Becker the world’s most expensive goalkeeper in July.

Politics / Ekiti Poll: My Running Mate, Others Betrayed Me – Otunba Segun Adewale by thereturnoflucy(m): 10:11am On Aug 02, 2018
The flagbearer of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), in the July 14 Ekiti State governorship election, Otunba Segun Adewale, has denied rumoured defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement released, on Wednesday, in Ado-Ekiti, Adewale restated his commitment to his party, saying his conscience is not for sale.

Speaking on the allegation that he was paid by Dr. Kayode Fayemi to collapse the PDP structure into the APC in Ekiti State, Adewale described such insinuation as a ‘dubious political tactics’ deployed by some desperate politicians to misinform the public and malign his character.

Adewale, who appreciated Ekiti people for their massive support before, during and after the election, noted with displeasure that some key personalities within the ADP structure, led by the party’s deputy governorship candidate, defected to the APC a few days to the election which he said hamper his chances.

Adewale urged ADP members in the state to remain firm, steadfast and resolute as better days are ahead. He attributed the party’s poor performance at the election to conspiracy.

According to him, “INEC did not issue agent tags to the ADP until 1pm on election day. Despite the delay, 10 per cent of what is due to us was issued.

“It does seem our agents tags were deliberately issued to some other persons to impersonate our party at the polling units and collation centers.

“Our party were denied access to 75 per cent of the polling centers”

Otunba Adewale said he tactically withdrew from the race when it became obvious that the APC had hijacked the entire process with alleged monetary inducement.

“It was practically impossible to match Federal financial and authority might deployed by the APC in the state.”

According to him, he is more concerned about leveraging on the lessons from the election to ensure the success of the party in future.

“I am at the moment working with the leadership of our party towards reorganising our structures. It is important to situate credible members at critical positions to prevent a reoccurrence of our experience at the poll.

We hope to go into the 2019 general election with a formidable and focused team that will not compromise when faced with pressure.”

Although the election might have passed, Adewale insists it is important he puts on record happenings that led to the result gotten at the poll.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I have not defected from the ADP and I am not in any alliance with the APC, not now, before or during the election.

“As a strong contender in the election, I was wooed by the APC and PDP but I refused all offers to betray the people’s trust.

“I never collected a penny from any political party or individual to sway the election results,” he concluded.

Politics / Election Sequence: Court Of Appeal Upholds National Assembly's Powers by thereturnoflucy(m): 4:27pm On Aug 01, 2018
A Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the powers of the National Assembly to make laws including the Bill amending election sequence.

The appellate court also dismissed the judgement of a Federal High Court in Abuja, which on April 25 stopped the National Assembly from overriding the assent of the president in the Bill.

A four-member panel of justices presided by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa on Wednesday held that the decision of the trial court in delving into the matter amounted to a breach of the Doctrine of Separation of Powers.

She said that having not signed the Bill into law, it remains within the powers of the National Assembly as provided in Section 4(1) of the 1999 Constitution, which the court has no jurisdiction over.

The National Assembly had last month asked the Appeal Court sitting in Abuja to set aside a Federal High Court judgement, which stated that it lacked the power to re-order the proposed sequence for the 2019 general elections.

Education / Protest Rocks FUOYE Over Wi-fi, Poor Road, Healthcare by thereturnoflucy(m): 2:53pm On Jul 30, 2018
Students of the Federal University, Oye–Ekiti, today staged a peaceful protest, over Wi-Fi, poor road, healthcare

The students marched across the institution on Monday morning demanding improved living and learning services.

The protest has disrupted the academic and administrative activities on campus.

The students want the management of FUOYE to repair a major access road across the campus, provide Wi-Fi, and improve services at the health centre, reported our correspondent monitoring the development at the school.

Concern about examination results of the previous semester which have not been released since the start of a new semester is also part of the reasons for the protest.

The students alleged they had been given false assurances on the repair of the road, though some men began work on the road two months ago. However, barely into the work, the men stopped appearing on site, the students said.

KIKIOTOLU learnt that the road contract had been awarded to Dere Construction Company, however, the project came to a halt weeks after the contractors began work on it.

A student of the institution said;

“The protest is actually called for, considering the poor condition of the school road. The school road, from phase 1–2 is not motorable anytime it rains; the students experience difficulties trying to trek on the road.

“Everywhere is muddy, the situation of the school is generally appalling.”

In an interview a correspondent of CAMPUS REPORTER, the Students’ Union President of the institution, Fasakin Taiwo, said;

“We are not here to fight; rather, we are here to let the management know the challenges students are facing. We’ve been doing a lot of consultations and consolidation and evidently that have not yield forth fruit.

“The students are beginning to lose interest in us and that is the reason why we are staging a protest here today.

“Normally, it’s supposed to be a day protest but if there is no form of positive reaction from the management, it can last more than a day.

The university is yet to comment on the protest, as efforts to get one as proved abortive.

Nigerian musician, Temitope Adekunle, aka Small Doctor has denied allegations that he received cash when he visited Buhari during the Ramadan fast.

President Buhari invited a group of Nigerian youths which included Small Doctor, to break Ramadan fast with him at the Aso Villa.

Not long after the news of the visitation was published did former Director of New Media for the Peoples Democratic Party, Deji Adeyanju, claim that Buhari the selected entertainers N2m each during the visit.

Adeyanju had written on Twitter;

“So, some youths went to Aso Rock yesterday to see Buhari and collected ‘thanks for coming’, N2m each. Very soon, they will start telling us why it is good for Buhari to continue…”

This allegation raised a lot of eyebrows, as many fans weren't pleased with the stars.

Small Doctor speaking with Sunday Scoop, has denied the allegation, saying he didn’t collect such money from the President and didn’t think any other entertainer did also. Small Doctor said;

“I have always worked hard and my hard work is paying off. I felt humbled and privileged meeting Mr. President. Looking at where I used to be, there has been a major turnaround in my life. Do you remember I was once a bus conductor?”

Crime / Two Nigerians Arrested For Impersonating Kenyan First Lady by thereturnoflucy(m): 6:12pm On Jun 10, 2018
@KikioTolu

Detectives in Kilifi are holding two Nigerians suspected of impersonating some of Kenya’s top leaders in bid to swindle Kenyans.

Police claim many Kenyans have fallen prey to the suspected fraudsters, Timothy Ogba Ebakole and Alex Olusegun Adebayo.

The suspects allegedly impersonated the First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, Kilifi Senator Steward Madzayo and his Bomet counterpart Christopher Langat on Facebook.

Kilifi Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer, Christopher Chesoli, said his team tracked the two suspects to Kayole in Nairobi.

“We believe that they have received millions of shillings from the public. We took them to court on Friday but asked for another seven days to have them so that we can continue with the investigations,” Chesoli said.

He added that their probe revealed that they had also impersonated Bomet senator and the First Lady on Facebook.
