The real reason Donald Trump is suddenly trying to ban immigration https://www.palmerreport.com/analysis/ban-immigration-the-real-reason-donald-trump-is-suddenly-trying-to/27784/ Last night Donald Trump suddenly announced on Twitter, out of nowhere, that he’s temporarily banning all immigration to the United States by executive order, citing the coronavirus pandemic. Trump provided no logical justification for his move, and no legal justification for why his order should hold up in court. So what’s he doing? This move is a logical failure on so many levels, it’s difficult to know where to start. The United States has the most out-of-control coronavirus outbreak in the world, so if anything it should be other countries trying to keep Americans out. Even if there is a good coronavirus-based reason to try to keep people from entering the U.S., why only target immigrants and not, say, international tourists? They’re just as likely to bring the virus with them. Further, this doesn’t feel like something that’s going to hold up in court, even on a temporary basis while the case plays out. So why even issue the order? That may be the whole point. Even if this goes nowhere in practice, Donald Trump can now brag to his racist base that he ordered an end to immigration. Even if the order doesn’t end up blocking a single immigrant from entering the country, reality doesn’t matter to his cult members. Of course Donald Trump still mistakenly thinks that pandering to his own base is somehow going to help his bleak reelection odds. Trump has spent three years focusing solely on his existing fans instead of trying to broaden his support and win over new people, which is why his approval rating is still anemic. For Trump, it’s very rarely about strategy, and nearly always about malignant narcissism. ...A good opportunity by Trump to deflate the responsibility of his handling the covid-19 situation...pass the blame on immigrants...actually it should be the other way...countries extending travel bans to US citizens as the US is the nation mostly affected by the pandemic... 2 Likes 1 Share

Trump says he’s aiming to shield corporations from legal liability for workers who get Covid at work “Businesses are asking for the right to expose their workers to fatal risks with no consequences. It’s bad economics and bad policy.” President Donald Trump said during a press briefing Monday evening that his administration is aiming to shield corporations from legal responsibility for workers who contract the novel coronavirus on the job, a move that the Chamber of Commerce and right-wing advocacy groups are aggressively lobbying for as the White House pushes to reopen the U.S. economy against the warnings of public health experts. “We are trying to take liability away from these companies,” Trump said in response to a reporter’s question on the subject. “We just don’t want that because we want the companies to open and to open strong. But I’ll get you a legal opinion on that.” The president claimed that his administration has not previously discussed the issue of corporate liability, but the New York Times reported that business executives raised the matter with Trump in a conference call last week. An “issue of great concern to the executives on the call,” according to the Times, “was the need to address the liability companies could face if employees got sick after returning to work, given the possibility that workers who felt that they were brought back too soon—or were not placed in a safe environment—could sue en masse.” Additionally, the Washington Post reported earlier this month that Trump administration officials discussed including in the next stimulus package “a waiver that would clear businesses of liability from employees who contract the coronavirus on the job.”

Michigan girl, 5, daughter of first responders, dies from coronavirus https://www.foxnews.com/health/michigan-girl-5-first-child-die-coronavirus A 5-year-old Michigan girl, the daughter of two first responders, has become the first child to die from COVID-19 in the state on Sunday. Skylar Herbert tested positive for the coronavirus back in March and later developed meningoencephalitis, a rare complication of the coronavirus, her parents said. She spent two weeks on a ventilator before being taken off on Sunday. “We decided to take her off the ventilator today because her improvement had stopped, the doctors told us that it was possible she was brain dead, and we basically just knew she wasn’t coming back to us,” said LaVondria Herbert, Skylar's mother, on Sunday, according to The Detroit News. She was originally released from Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, a day after testing positive, as her symptoms -- which included a fever -- were believed to be mild. The family went back to the hospital after her father, Ebbie Herbert, 46, developed a cough and shortness of breath, the paper reported. As Skylar and her mother waited in the car, the 5-year-old had a seizure. "[I told her] Skylar, look at your daddy, Skylar, look at your daddy," said her father. "She came out of the seizure and me and her mother ran back into the emergency room." Skylar was then admitted to the pediatric ICU at the hospital -- located in a northern suburb of Detroit, Mich., -- where she was given a lumbar puncture and the family learned of her meningitis condition. The Beaumont Health System, which has seen 6,678 COVID-19 patients as of Sunday, confirmed her death in a statement. ...Michigan is one of the states where people are protesting against the lockdown... 1 Like 1 Share

Coronavirus standoff: Photos purportedly show Colorado health care workers at odds with anti-lockdown protesters https://www.foxnews.com/us/photos-purportedly-show-coronavirus-protest-standoff A series of dramatic photos purportedly show a pair of health care workers facing off against drivers protesting Colorado’s coronavirus lockdown. The duo, clad in scrubs and N95 masks, stood their ground in the middle of a crosswalk as thousands converged on the State Capitol building in Denver on Sunday in opposition to a stay-at-home order and business closures aimed at containing the outbreak. As of Monday, statistics show there are nearly 10,000 confirmed coronavirus cases and 420 deaths in Colorado – but, at the same time, hundreds of thousands of residents have recently filed for unemployment. ...This is what Trump wants to happen in the states...creating anarchy and division... 3 Likes 1 Share

Donald Trump has completely lost the plot https://www.palmerreport.com/analysis/lost-the-plot-donald-trump-has-completely/27745/ How far gone is Donald Trump? He couldn’t read a list of ten countries during his press briefing today without forgetting that he’d just done so, and reading it again a moment later, only to botch it. He couldn’t read a passage from a newspaper editorial without realizing that his own handlers seemed to be punking him by getting him to read the words “It is hard to get aroused.” At one point during Trump’s mostly unintelligible rambling today, he didn’t appear to be sure if California Governor Gavin Newsom is a Democrat or Republican. Trump appeared to claim that he’s invoked the Defense Production Act to manufacture coronavirus testing kits, but it’s far from clear if this has actually happened, or if it’s something that Trump just made up. You could make the argument that Donald Trump never had the plot to begin with. But after what we watched on television just now, it’s more clear than ever that Trump has completely lost the plot. This guy doesn’t know what he’s doing, what he’s talking about, or where he’s at. Americans are dying by the tens of thousands, and we have a “president” who’s at least fifty percent senile. ...Trump is just like his supporters... 2 Likes

sassysure: US alerted Israel, NATO to disease outbreak in China in November — report https://www.timesofisrael.com/us-alerted-israel-nato-to-disease-outbreak-in-china-in-november-report/ US intelligence agencies alerted Israel to the coronavirus outbreak in China already in November, Israeli television reported Thursday. According to Channel 12 news, the US intelligence community became aware of the emerging disease in Wuhan in the second week of that month and drew up a classified document. Information on the disease outbreak was not in the public domain at that stage — and was known only apparently to the Chinese government. US intelligence informed the Trump administration, “which did not deem it of interest,” but the report said the Americans also decided to update two allies with the classified document: NATO and Israel, specifically the IDF. The network said Israeli military officials later in November discussed the possibility of the spread of the virus to the region and how it would affect Israel and neighboring countries. The intelligence also reached Israel’s decision makers and the Health Ministry, where “nothing was done,” according to the report. Last week, ABC News reported that US intelligence officials were warning about the coronavirus in a report prepared in December by the American military’s National Center for Medical Intelligence. It was unclear if that was the same report that was said to have been shared with Israel. 1 Like 1 Share |

Trump tosses coronavirus shutdowns back to the states https://www.politico.com/news/2020/04/16/trump-plan-for-reopening-economy-191073 Days after declaring “total authority“ over states, President Donald Trump on Thursday kicked responsibility for coronavirus-related shutdowns to state governors as he unveiled general guidelines for a phased reopening of the economy. In a call with governors and at a White House news conference, the president marked the moment — which he called “open up America again“ — as a key step in reviving a devastated economy and an opportunity for state leaders to tailor a response to their individual needs. But he left many critical questions unanswered for the states, including how testing will be ramped up dramatically and where additional resources will come from to protect millions of front-line workers. ...The tin-pot wannabe emperor... 2 Likes 1 Share |

Trump’s call with Wall Street didn’t go as planned https://www.politico.com/newsletters/politico-nightly-coronavirus-special-edition/2020/04/15/closing-time-488927 WALL STREET TO TRUMP: KEEP IT SHUT — The White House held a call this morning with top Wall Street titans and other senior bankers and financiers to talk about how to reopen the economy, part of a barrage of phone confabs between President Donald Trump and executives from industries including hospitality, health care, technology, construction, sports and many more. There was a small problem with the Wall Street call. Actually several problems. Many of the bankers said they knew nothing about the call until late Tuesday night. Several had quarterly earnings calls this morning that directly conflicted with the timing of the White House summons. ...lack of effective communication from the WH... Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon couldn’t be on the call because of earnings. Neither could JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon, though not because of earnings. Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan was able to dial in right after his earnings call ended. Another senior executive from JPMorgan attempted to get on the call in Dimon’s place, two people briefed on the call told POLITICO, but couldn’t get through for 20 minutes and finally gave up. One top executive described the call as a “shit show” that produced little of substance. Trump asked several questions, including to Moynihan about how the small business loan program was going. That program is now slated to run out of money soon. Trump on the call praised the bravery of Morgan Stanley CEO James Gorman, who got Covid-19 but recovered. Gorman said his case was relatively mild and tried to deflect the praise. Several executives called for more Covid-19 testing, something Trump has been hearing for six weeks from anxious governors, health care leaders and lawmakers. And that was pretty much it for the Wall Street conversation, according to people briefed on the call. “It was really nothing,” one person briefed on the call said. Beyond the haphazard nature of the call, senior bankers are getting increasingly frustrated with Trump’s approach to the crisis. They say pressure tactics to reopen the economy as fast as possible make no sense if the virus isn’t fully under control and consumers and businesses don’t feel safe to resume anything close to normal activities. “I really don’t understand how they are communicating on this,” one CEO told POLITICO on condition that neither they nor their firm be named for fear of angering the White House. “He’s got to stop talking about turning the economy back on and start talking about making people feel safe, things that are happening around testing and the health care system. That’s the only way you will really get the economy reopened over a period of time.” 3 Likes 1 Share |

https://eu.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2020/03/29/bernie-sanders-supporters-vote-trump-over-biden-poll/2936124001/ Poll: 15% of Sanders supporters will vote for Trump if Biden is nominee; 80% would back Biden If former Vice President Joe Biden secures the Democratic presidential nomination, 15% of Sen. Bernie Sanders' supporters will vote for President Donald Trump's reelection, according to an ABC News/Washington Post poll. If accurate, that would represent a slightly larger defection than occurred after the bitter battle between Sanders and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2016, when 12% of Sanders voters broke for Trump in the general election. The good news for Biden is that in spring 2016, an ABC News poll found 20% of Sanders supporters said they would vote for Trump over Clinton, and far fewer ended up doing so. And 80% of Sanders' supporters said they would back Biden over Trump, according to the poll. |

Bernie Sanders Drops Out Of Presidential Race, Ceding Nomination To Biden https://www.huffpost.com/entry/bernie-sanders-drops-out-democratic-race_n_5e683928c5b60557280d408f Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) ended his bid for the White House on Wednesday, effectively handing the Democratic nomination to former Vice President Joe Biden and ending hopes that a progressive challenger would take on President Donald Trump in November. Sanders announced the news on a conference call with campaign staffers. Sanders was seen as a front-runner in the Democratic race, surging to the top of the polls before a series of poor showings on Super Tuesday and subsequent primaries. After a series of big losses to Biden, all campaigning virtually ground to a halt due to social distancing restrictions put in place to help ease the strain of the coronavirus pandemic. Many leading Democrats and onetime candidates had thrown their weight behind Biden after ending their own bids, including former mayor Pete Buttigieg; Sens. Kamala Harris (Calif.), Amy Klobuchar (Minn.) and Cory Booker (N.J.); and billionaire Mike Bloomberg. The support for his competitor left the Sanders campaign reeling with limited options to secure enough delegates going into the Democratic National Convention, which was delayed until August because of coronavirus. Biden had pitched himself as the most electable candidate, and polls showed that Democrats were, indeed, primarily interested in finding a candidate who could take out Trump ― even if they didn’t agree with that person on every issue.

Trump’s Aggressive Advocacy of Malaria Drug for Treating Coronavirus Divides Medical Community https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/06/us/politics/coronavirus-trump-malaria-drug.html While Dr. Anthony Fauci has urged caution in using hydroxychloroquine, some doctors are prescribing it to patients who have the virus despite the fact it has never been tested for it. President Trump made a rare appearance in the Situation Room on Sunday as his pandemic task force was meeting, determined to talk about the anti-malaria medicine that he has aggressively promoted lately as a treatment for the coronavirus. Once again, according to a person briefed on the session, the experts warned against overselling a drug yet to be proved a safe remedy, particularly for heart patients. “Yes, the heart stuff,” Mr. Trump acknowledged. Then he headed out to the cameras to promote it anyway. “So what do I know?” he conceded to reporters at his daily briefing. “I’m not a doctor. But I have common sense.” Day after day, the salesman turned president has encouraged coronavirus patients to try hydroxychloroquine with all of the enthusiasm of a real estate developer. The passing reference he makes to the possible dangers is usually overwhelmed by the full-throated endorsement. “What do you have to lose?” he asked five times on Sunday. Some associates of Mr. Trump’s have financial interests in the issue. Sanofi’s largest shareholders include Fisher Asset Management, the investment company run by Ken Fisher, a major donor to Republicans, including Mr. Trump. A spokesman for Mr. Fisher declined to comment. Another investor in both Sanofi and Mylan, another pharmaceutical firm, is Invesco, the fund previously run by Wilbur Ross, the commerce secretary. Mr. Ross said in a statement Monday that he “was not aware that Invesco has any investments in companies producing” the drug, “nor do I have any involvement in the decision to explore this as a treatment.” As of last year, Mr. Trump reported that his three family trusts each had investments in a Dodge & Cox mutual fund, whose largest holding was in Sanofi. 1 Like 1 Share |

...Trump always passing the buck...never ever admits responsibility... Navarro memos warning of mass coronavirus death circulated in January https://www.axios.com/exclusive-navarro-deaths-coronavirus-memos-january-da3f08fb-dce1-4f69-89b5-ea048f8382a9.html In late January, President Trump's economic adviser Peter Navarro warned his White House colleagues the novel coronavirus could take more than half a million American lives and cost close to $6 trillion, according to memos obtained by Axios. The state of play: By late February, Navarro was even more alarmed, and he warned his colleagues, in another memo, that up to 2 million Americans could die of the virus. Navarro's grim estimates are set out in two memos — one dated Jan. 29 and addressed to the National Security Council, the other dated Feb. 23 and addressed to the president. The NSC circulated both memos around the White House and multiple agencies. In the first memo, which the New York Times was first to report on, Navarro makes his case for "an immediate travel ban on China." The second lays the groundwork for supplemental requests from Congress, with the warning: "This is NOT a time for penny-pinching or horse trading on the Hill." Why it matters: The president quickly restricted travel from China, moved to delay re-entry of American travelers who could be infected, and dispatched his team to work with Congress on stimulus funds. But Trump was far slower to publicly acknowledge the sort of scenarios Navarro had put in writing. One senior administration official who received Navarro's memos said at the time they were skeptical of his motives and thus his warnings: “The January travel memo struck me as an alarmist attempt to bring attention to Peter’s anti-China agenda while presenting an artificially limited range of policy options." "The supplemental memo lacked any basis for its projections, which led some staff to worry that it could needlessly rattle markets and may not direct funding where it was truly needed." 2 Likes 1 Share |
