Politics / My Two Cents On Jonathan's Declaration... by Tiamiy10000: 11:19am On Apr 26, 2022
The declaration of Good luck Jonathan is one of the most trending articles on all platforms... As a matter of fact Jonathan is qualified for 2023 presidency, But is he right to have decleared his interest under the flag of APC?. It is a known fact that this so called All progressive party were the ones that saw no good in his administration and considered him a weak and incompetent president, which gave president Muhammad Buhari the opportunity to assume the mantle of leadership. Most Nigerians never knew how competent Jonathan was until the emergence of this current administration. And since then Jonathan has been seen as one of the best president. I am not here to espousing his political prowess but rather want to say my opinion on the interest he had shown lately.

APC did not believe in him throughout his administration and were always against his administration, is it right for him to be an aspirant under the flag of APC? What of his party which he represented when he was president (PDP) won't they be disappointed with his actions? What of Nigerians that took him in high esteemed? What of the image he holds globally?

What your take on this?

Nigerian Pilot Salary 2022: See How Much Nigerian Pilot Earn
Have you ever considered becoming a pilot and wondered how much a Nigerian pilot makes? Worry not! We will give you everything you need to know here today! We have complete information on Nigerian Pilot Salary 2022 in this article. The cost of being a pilot is the primary reason behind this. Without a doubt, becoming a pilot is one of Nigeria’s most prized jobs.

It may interest you to know that, in addition to the fact that the job appears to be enjoyable and that they demand a great deal of respect from both inside and outside the industry, their basic income is really attractive, not to mention the bonuses and other benefits they are eligible to.

Nigerian Pilot Salaries: How much Do Nigerian Pilot Earn?
One of the most dangerous jobs is flying an airplane. One of the reasons for their large salaries and bonuses is because of this. Not only does the profession garner widespread respect, but its delicacy and often intricacy make it a highly selective field that necessitates extensive training. If you want to be a pilot, you must be willing to invest. If effective, this labor will undoubtedly provide double profits.

In general, regardless of position, grade, or amount of experience, an entry-level pilot receives a minimum of N200, 000. It’s worth noting that fixed-wing pilots make less money than rotary pilots. The majority of people begin their careers as fixed-wing pilots. They become captains after a few years of experience and then convert to rotary pilots, which pays substantially better.

As of 2018, the majority of aircraft companies pay in US dollars. Pilots employed by oil and gas firms such as Shell and Chevron earn between $10,000 and $25,000 per month. Air pilots who work for oil and gas corporations earn much more than those who work for airlines. A pilot’s pay is often determined by his or her year of experience, type ratings, rank, flying hours, and other fundamental considerations.

Let us take a quick look at how much pilots in various type ratings earn.

Second officers earn between N1m and N1.8m, while a new-entry Captain earns between N2.6m and N3.3m monthly.

Commercial Pilot License: An entry-level pilot with a Commercial Pilot License from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority earns between N350,000 and N1,000,000 — depending on the airline, job description and agreement. Getting a job without type rating can sometimes be challenging

A First Officer: A first officer pilot in Nigeria earns between N800,000 and N3,000,000 depending on the airline, flying hours, and work conditions. This is the first stage after the type rating.

The Authority: The Authority on the aircraft, usually called a captain earns between N1,500,000 and N5,000,000 per month, depending on the airline, total flying hours, and working conditions.

It should be noted that pilots for local airlines earn about N800,000 per month on average, while pilots that fly international airlines are paid N2 million monthly on average.

Provide adequate subventions, our colleagues are suffering – ASUU tells Makinde

Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso’s Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has petitioned Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to enhance the university’s subvention.

This information was revealed by the union on Thursday.

According to the union, increasing the subvention is required in order for the institution to overcome its current issues.

The Oyo State government owns LAUTECH, which is a tertiary institution.

It was learned that the university has been dealing with concerns such as academic personnel not being paid Earned Academic Allowances.

ASUU, on the other hand, has asked Makinde, the school’s ‘Visitor,’ to provide financial assistance.

According to the union, this will enable the institution to address the issues.

In a statement released on Thursday, ASUU Chairman Professor Biodun Olaniran urged Makinde to enhance the monthly subvention, which is now set at N295 million.

The enhanced rating of the institution, according to Olaniran, has doubled the effort of instructors.

He stated that in order to retain and improve this standing, the university must maintain a stable academic calendar.

Olaniran went on to say that the government should look at the problems that lecturers are experiencing and how they are affecting their welfare, specifically the non-payment of Earned Academic Allowances from the 2013/2014 to the 2020/2021 academic session.

He stated that the present difficulties, particularly the non-payment of EAA by academic staff members, were discussed at an impromptu congress held on Wednesday.

Olaniran went on to say that the problem has been resolved to be brought to the attention of the state government.

He said,

“At an emergency congress held on Wednesday (13/04 /2022), the current challenges, especially, non-payment of EAA (2013/2014 – 2020/2021) faced by academic staff members were reviewed.

“It was resolved that the situation be brought to the attention of the government and the public to avert another crisis in the university.

“Our Union, therefore, calls on the Oyo State Government, particularly the Visitor, to provide adequate subvention to the University.

“We also call on the handlers (University Administration and the Governing Council) to prioritise the welfare of workers who are the drivers of the system.”

They want to use the school’s resources for their selfish interest – Parents warn Seyi Makinde

Parents of Government College students in Ibadan have spoken out against the Oyo State Government’s plans to hand over the institution to the Government College Ibadan Old Boys’ Association (GCIOBA).

The parents revealed this information in a petition to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

According to our source, the state government has finalized plans to give over the secondary school to GCIOBA, which is directed by Mr. Wale Babalakin.

However, the parents have objected to the move.

In a letter signed by Prince Adeniji Adeniyi (P.T.A. Chairman, Senior School), Mr. Owosibo Olusegun (P.T.A. Chairman, Junior School), and Mr. Adebamiji Olatunde (P.T.A. Chairman, Junior School 2), the parents urged relevant agencies to keep an eye on GCIOBA’s operations.

The trio warned in the letter, which was submitted to the state’s commissioners of education, science, and technology, as well as other important stakeholders, that privatizing public schools in the state might result in an unprecedented disaster.

They said that those behind the College Takeover are after the school’s resources.

They said that the old students intend to use the landmass and staff quarters distributed across the College for their own selfish purposes.

In a letter sent on Thursday, the parents stated,

“We (Parents) find this action as nothing but a betrayal of trust between the Government and the masses of the State, especially in the education sector as clearly stated in the inaugural address by Your Excellency during the Swearing-in-Ceremony at Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan on May 29, 2019.

“The College that ought to serve the community is now to serve the selected few and the Government is indirectly ceding the heritage of the State to the selected few.

“The people behind the College take over are after the resources in the school, most especially, the land mass and the staff quarters scattered within the College environment for their own selfish interest.

“The planned handover and takeover of the college using the strategy of the platform of old students claiming to be non-profit while operating as a profit making organization without adopting necessary financial controls of extant financial laws and regulation of the State. The promise of complying with the free education policy of the Oyo State Government is a bait and it does not reduce the likelihood that they will not engage in predatory behavior that harms the student, the school, the community and the people of Oyo State in general. Takeover of public assets without following the complete due process have characteristics that are cause for concern.

“Privatization of public schools in the state may spring up unprecedented crisis in the State, as we heard on good authority that some members of public, especially the communities who donated its land to the Government for public use are against the takeover of public schools by for- profit Executives or Associations and which may adversely affect this government thereby eroding all the gains and achievements achieved by this government in the last three years.

“We want the relevant agencies to beam their searchlight on the activities of the Old boys at Government College Ibadan. The Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue to look into the affairs of the Profit Making Hall erected on Government landed property without any returns to the State Government, in terms of taxes or revenue.”

Lawan blasts Buhari for requesting a N3.5 trillion fuel subsidy.

Buhari also requested that the parliament approve an increase in the expected PMS subsidy provision for 2022…

Details below!!!

President Muhammadu Buhari’s request for an additional N3.557 trillion in fuel subsidies has been opposed by Senate President Ahmed Lawan.

Lawan stated that the presidential proposal is ridiculously inappropriate at the current N250 pump price of Premium Motor Spirit.

His rebuke came only days before the Senate approved N3.557 trillion in additional gasoline subsidy funds, which Buhari had requested.

According to previous reports, the Senate would pass the revised 2022 budgetary framework on Thursday, April 14, 2022, before adjourning for the Easter holiday.

The Senate President himself gave the hint when the Committee on Finance’s report was pushed out for consideration, according to a statement written by Dr. Ezrel Tabiowo, Special Assistant (Press) to the Senate President, on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.

Buhari had urged the chamber, among other things, to approve a N3.557 trillion increase in the anticipated budget for 2022 subsidy for PMS, better known as petrol, from N442.72 billion to N4 trillion.

A letter dated April 5, 2022 contained the request.

“My observation is that it’s better for Federal Government to remove fuel subsidy and use the money to improve the power supply in Nigeria.

“If with subsidy, people will still buy fuel in filling station at the rate of N250 per liter and also collect subsidy from Federal Government by marketers, that’s double profits and does not make sense.

“Giving electricity to the public is like automatically creating job opportunities for our youths in Nigeria. More so that the youths are now manufacturing electric cars and other devices in Nigeria,” Lawan said.

He also urged that the federal government take over power plants from the private sector in order to provide citizens with electricity that is worth what they pay for.

Education Experts Reveal Why Nigeria is Experiencing Low Learning Outcomes

Experts across the country have called for strategic approaches to improving learning outcomes in school children
The experts warned that 70 per cent of the children who are currently in school are not even learning
Unprepared workforce and inadequate teaching resources.
Efforts by UNICEF in achieving better learning outcomes
Teachers who can’t write their names end up spreading ignorance to school children, Adams Oshiomhole warns

Details below!

Nigerian education experts have cautioned that learning outcomes among children aged three to ten years are declining.

Dr. Geoffery Njoku, speaking during a media debate organized by UNICEF and the Federal Ministry of Information’s Child Rights Information Bureau, emphasized that tackling the education crisis in Nigeria must begin with assuring the country’s fundamental reading and numeracy.

According to Njoku, a UNICEF communication specialist, Nigeria has an appalling record of 10.5 million out-of-school children, with 70% of those in school not learning or knowing nothing.

A recent World Bank research shows that Nigeria is experiencing deficiency with 70 per cent of children below the age of 10 years – who are in school but cannot understand simple sentences or perform basic numeracy tasks.

According to the survey, 69% of primary school teachers in Nigeria are unqualified to teach in the classroom.

Njoku cited teachers in Nigeria who do not comprehend the basics of some of the knowledge expected to be given to schoolchildren as one of the causes for the low learning outcome.

He went on to say that several of these teachers lacked the necessary training for the teaching process.

He said:

“The teachers need to be trained and re-trained; we have teachers failing primary 3 exams, so what are we doing.

“At this point, if we need to change the school curriculum then let’s do that to achieve improved learning for the children.

Njoku said the success of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) is related to the implementation of the Child Rights Act, and he called for government, partners, and stakeholders to get involved to get the ball rolling on foundation reading and numeracy.

He added:

“This is because if we don’t get focus on getting the child rights right, it is going to be a hollow chase because all the SGDs are all intertwined with child right.

Unprepared workforce and inadequate teaching resources
Manar Ahmed, a UNICEF education specialist, spoke about her concerns about an unprepared workforce and limited physical resources in schools across the country during a presentation on Foundation Literacy and Numeracy.

According to Ahmed, the above-mentioned factors, as well as a lack of school preparation, are the key causes of poor learning results in elementary schools.

Nigeria’s difficulty, she explained, is not a lack of policies, but rather the proper implementation of such policies by relevant institutions.

Ahmed also emphasized the importance of the country putting in more effort to ensure that programs to improve the learning process among schoolchildren are implemented.

She said:

“Goal four of the SDGs is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education that promotes lifelong learning and all children by age 10 must know how to read and solve numeracy.

“It is not that Nigeria lacks the right policy but Nigeria is facing a staggering crisis with learning outcomes being one of the lowest.

“So, 70 per cent of the children in school are not achieving basic foundational skills.

Efforts by UNICEF in achieving better learning outcomes
Rahama Farah, the chief of the UNICEF field office in Kano, also spoke about how the international organization and the federal government have continued to work together to improve the country’s basic education outcomes.

Farah, who was represented by Elhadji Diop, the officer-in-charge of the UNICEF Field Office in Kano, noted that more work remains to be done to improve the learning process and improve outcomes for school children.

He said:

“To address the challenge, achieving basic learning outcomes at the foundational level of education is key. It is clear that to improve learning outcomes in Nigeria, achieving basic foundational skills at that level of learning cannot be overemphasised.

“So we need to mobilise stakeholders to join forces in addressing the challenges of eradicating learning poverty in the country.

“UNICEF is already supporting the Government of Nigeria to improve Foundational Literacy and Numeracy through tailor-made, teaching-learning practices, such as Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) and Reading and Numeracy Activities (RANA). A lot still needs to be done to scale-up Foundational Literacy and Numeracy in Nigeria.

Teachers who can't write their names end up spreading ignorance to school children, Adams Oshiomhole warns

Nigerians have been urged to urge their governors to make education a top priority in their states.

Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo state, gave this advise to Nigerians during an event in Abuja on Wednesday, March 30.

According to the former governor, Nigerian youth must be trained, educated, and skilled in order to develop.
