Religion / Re: Exposing Hardmirror. A Tale Of Two Mirrors by timmy2409(m): 8:41pm On Nov 25, 2016
By the way, is it ridiculous to think that someone who goes without food for very long stretches of time in the name of God could not possibly experience the adverse effects of his actions and even death?

Or is it the general notion among Christians here that "true" and diligent Christians that fast extremely are somehow supernaturally sustained by God or the Holy Spirit?

Please! You're one Google search away from numerous Christians that have enjoyed fasting-related deaths. (Example 1, Example 2, Example 3, etc )

Speaking of people that have incentives to lie about the validity or invalidity of miracles, think about this for a moment.

If a pastor claims that a miracle is real and that he performed it, what would he gain? Oh.. well larger congregations & followership, which means more money from tithes and more people desperate for solutions. Think about how rich miracle preachers in Nigeria are as well as the likes of Benny Hinn, Reinhard Bonnke etc

Now, if HardMirror lies about his time as a pastor, claiming that miracles (in the supernatural sense) are actually not real, please educate me, what would he gain?

OP, gather up all of the responses above and gently hurl them into the nearest river. Quitting porn0graphy is very difficult if you've used it heavily for such a long amount of time, and no amount of yelling and praying would magically rewire your brain. Perhaps the most important thing at this point is for you (or your "friend") to first understand the mechanisms that create and support a porn addiction. Start here < yourbrainonporn.com/reboot_your_brain > This should put you on the path to freedom.

Morals,we are Africans for christ sake. Many beautiful women I know don't have pierce their nose
Cadamlk:
Before you pass insult, get the necessary education first.Nose piercing is customary to Indian Hindu since 16th century.Tattoo can be traced to Egypt in the second millenium BC.The only one that can be traced to black race is lip piercing. So virtually every other thing you practice today are borrowed from them

You're the one being ignorant. Without even conducting any research about the rest of Africa or even Nigeria, I know that Yorubas have had a longstanding custom of tattooing to mark various important occasions or for ethnic identification and religious rites. My grandmother, for example, has some swagged out tats from when she got married in the late 40s. So do a good number of older women in my family. It was a custom for centuries, but has been constantly eroded following the advent of European colonization and the enforcement of the middle-eastern religions (Islam & Christianity) on the local peoples.

Here's a Yoruba Ifa Chief talking about tattooing and scarification according to the Ifa tradition

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhB3aEft35U

Regarding piercings, here's a brief overview of some of the recorded different kinds among African tribes (yes, including nose piercings).

In conclusion, you're wrong. You're only saying tattoos and piercings are immoral because you have grown up in this post-colonial society, where your morals are now increasingly defined by one of the middle-eastern religions. If our forefathers had been strong enough to resist European encroachment, then maybe you wouldn't be here shitting on our indigenous culture, and glorifying the so-called "morals" that they have defined for you.

This was a response earlier today on the thread: What moment made you think "f*ck I'm weird"?

I'm editing this to say I know it's weird but don't some of you guys get the appeal? Using a girls spit to masterbate with is awesome. It's the natural lubricant for a bj.

The sad fact is that religion and politics are closely correlated in Nigeria.

It is not hard to see that a majority of the population votes along both religious and ethnic lines. Accordingly, one would expect politicians to play to whichever one of these factors tickles the people's sentiments.

Essentially, most Nigerian politicians and religious figureheads are charlatans of the same cloth.

What a m0r0n.

Is this the issue-based campaign that PDP promised?

Pretty much all of these points are petty ad hominem attacks on Buhari's person. I mean, if your only legitimate arguments against the guy are that he's older than the incumbent (as if 58 is considered 'youth' even), and that he has a higher chance of getting sick, then maybe we all need to reevaluate the rhetoric.

I try to never comment on politics online, because I think it's a futile exercise, but this ad is really just the embodiment of retardation. I suppose that's what you get when uneducated thugs are allowed to wrangle and scam their way to power.

It is inevitable that moral actions revolve around value. A ladder of value by which the actions are allocated. And you have rightly pointed out value as essential. Value could be assessed by quantity or quality. The example you made, relates to quantity. What about quality? Lets say 500 ordinary peasants are in the way of the train versus diverting it into a King or an esoteric scholar?

For Western civilization which we are very much part of, the value of a King is greater than 500 peasants, regardless of what the families of those peasants think.

Eh. I doubt that I would hesitate running that m*therfucker into the King. He represents a self-perpetuating autocracy, whereas supreme executive power should derive from a mandate from the masses.

Humor aside, I do agree with your point. Given the choice between 500 pastorpreneurs and a construction worker, I'm pretty sure who's getting run over. But that's what I would do. There is a variant of the trolley problem that posits that a family member or friend is the single person on the other track. Of course study participants heavily favored inaction in this scenario, allowing the train to run into the initial five. The issue here clearly is that qualitative value is determined by an assessor who is prone to his/her own biases. For instance: Is it moral if I, being a villain myself, diverted the train into an innocent man, successfully saving my brothers-in-crime from death?

As tbaba1234 mentioned, it is incredibly difficult to accurately assess the qualities of life on either side of the equation in these scenarios. The very nature of the trolley problem as it is asked, allows very little room for this exercise, such that one's decision to act must be made primarily based on a quantitative analysis of the scenario. Really, the more imminent implication in today's society revolves, not around human beings, but around artificial intelligence applications. If an autonomous automobile loses its brakes while operating in a crowded area, how does it mitigate injury to human life? If it finds itself hurtling towards a crowd of people, should it steer away into the single individual on the opposite sidewalk? For a neutral entity as this, I would think quantity trumps quality all day erryday.

Sorry, didn't see this somehow.

You bring up a valid point...and some interesting religious stipulations. However, unsure as I am of the outcome(s) myself, and considering the circumstances, I would deem inaction the most rational reaction, or in your opinion/view the most rational "action", if you will. I think it's folly that people simplistically factor numbers - and only numbers - into 'calculating' what they firmly believe to be the so-called "Greater Good" (the irony in that being, we could not possibly know what the "Greater Good" actually is/was by 'virtue' of our own limitations).

Valid point there. I agree that it is indeed impossible to determine the value of life on either side of this equation with no other piece of information to go on besides the number of individuals on each track. Value to whom anyway? To you, the victims or to the larger society?

Nevertheless, I do think that it is much safer to approximate that the combined value of the lives of 5 individuals outweigh those of a single one.

I mean, at some point the majority has to hold a higher inherent value right? 5 might seem like a benign number of individuals, but what if your choices were between watching the train run into a gathering of 500 individuals vs diverting it into a single man on the adjacent track? Irrational or not, I think you will find very few people that would argue for inaction in this scenario.

Really nice work here guys. It's nice to know that people are putting efforts into developing such technical skills. I don't focus much on CAD design anymore these days, but I used to design components for a nuclear reactor facility and a formula racing team until recently. I used ProE Wildfire, Solidworks and Siemens NX.

If you are interested, there are tons of resources that can help you develop your skill as a drafter and engineer. GrabCAD.com has tons of models and tutorials that you can download for free, and they also have CAD design competitions where you can win money among other prizes. One thing I've realized is that it is almost always a waste of time to try to reinvent the wheel. For most common things you want to draw (fasteners, flanges, etc), you can find exact copies for free on GrabCAD. Re-drawing should only be for your practice, I suggest.

Also while I realize that this thread is primarily for drafters, I would like to encourage everyone to look more into the design of novel devices that you can produce to market and improve the qualities of life around you. Innovation is the key to both personal and societal economic development. One useful resource for this is LocalMotors.com, the creators of crowd-sourced vehicles. They made the Rally Fighter, a drift trike, and also the first 3D printed car, all of which were designed by users on their website. If you have any ideas, you can brainstorm and get help from professionals in the field on there. You can also enter competitions to potentially have your designs produced. The opportunities are endless.

Also if any one can get their hands on Siemens NX (should be available online), I have a comprehensive tutorial on the software that I can share. For those who don't know, Siemens NX is considered a high-end advanced level CAD/CAM program. It basically takes you from preliminary design through engineering analysis and finally manufacturing. It costs $85,000 for the fully licensed complete package sad.

Oh I almost forgot the most important tool: YouTube. I can't recommend video tutorials enough.

The universe has a cause;
If the universe has a cause, then an uncaused, personal Creator of the universe exists, who sans the universe is beginningless, changeless, immaterial, timeless, spaceless and enormously powerful;
Therefore:
An uncaused, personal Creator of the universe exists, who sans the universe is beginningless, changeless, immaterial, timeless, spaceless and enormously powerful.

This is the very definition of begging the question. Basically you've said,
- X
- If X, then Y
- Y

You're claiming your conclusion in your premise. For your argument to make sense, you'd have to include the intermediate premise that your argument implies so that it reads:

- The universe has a cause.
- Everything that has a cause must have an uncaused, personal Creator, who sans the thing in question is beginningless, changeless, immaterial, timeless, spaceless and enormously powerful.
- Therefore: An uncaused, personal Creator of the universe exists, who sans the universe is beginningless, changeless, immaterial, timeless, spaceless and enormously powerful.
