Reading this post in 2024, I find it valuable and evergreen.

For many of us, we have been breast-fed with the notion that you can hardly make it on Fiverr as a Nigerian, let alone using a real picture of yourself as a male. This has been a misconception and I will like to let you know how you can outwit this concept that has already been digested by all Fiverr aspirants.

Before you jump into Freelancing, please know these:

1. You need a saleable skill to sell! There's no free money there. None at all. You have to earn each dollar. So, you have to be professional in what you do and the way you present your skills. If you want to compete with those that have been sellers for more than 10 years, your portfolio and the gig images you use must speak well of you. Don't settle for less!

Also note that everyone has a skill. You don't have to be Lionel Messi or a superstar before you win in this freelancing space. There're many skills you can offer; including voice-over, proofreading, social media promotion, amongst others. You just need to know how to package your skills and present it well.

2. Don't rush into freelancing! It's not all about creating an account on Fiverr and afterwards rushing out. You need to stay online and update your gig titles to meet buyer's search keywords. This is because the more you stay online, the more the Fiverr algorithm takes you serious. You can set a daily goal and reminder to regularly come online on Fiverr. And when you do, spend at least 10 minutes on each visit. Monitor your competition, monitor your gig statistics and see which gig is capable of giving you more impressions because the more the impressions, the more the likelihood of buyers getting an order from you.

These Tips cannot be overstated; having been a Fiverr Freelancer myself since 2018.
For me, Tip 1 and 2 are most essential. Fiverr is not looking for extra baggages but for value-adding freelancers.

Before you jump into Fiverr, please know these:

1. You need a skill to sell on Fiverr. There's no free money there. None at all. You work for every dollar.

2. Don't rush into Fiverr, create an account and rush out. Stay online. This is because the more you stay online, the more the Fiverr algorithm takes you serious.

Set a reminder to regularly comer online on Fiverr. And when you do, spend 10 minutes on each visit.

3. Share your Fiverr gig link. Try to bring traffic to Fiverr. Keep doing it. Share it on social media, if you can run google ads please do. This will even speed things up for you and drag clients to your doorstep. The more you bring clients to Fiverr, the more Fiverr recommends your profile to more clients

4. Optimise your username , bio and gig details with there right keywords. Put in there right keywords, stuff you gig details with keywords. This is called SEO (search engine optimization ) and it is extremely effective . It pushes up your Fiverr ranking massively .

5. Also fill out all your 7 gigs. Take your time to do it. Don't create a Fiverr account, put in oner gig and run off. Don't do it, you won't be taken seriously by there Fiverr algorithm.

For website design in Lagos this 2022,
you should expect nothing less than #30,000 for a very cheap website design with basic features; or #150,000 for an ecommerce website with the necessary plugins and responsiveness. Not withstanding, some web design agencies charge higher based on their up-selling or cross-selling services (like content creation, Search engine optimization, Google advertising, Social Media Marketing, etc.)

I will like to expatiate what accrues to the overall cost.
I'm offering this breakdown based on my own years of experience in design; over 5 years.

Firstly, the premier cost is the acquisition of Domain.
A .com.ng -ending website is one of the cheapest domain you can buy for lower than #1,800. A standard company domain (.com) which is the most popular because of its top level domain (TLD) costs #4,500 on the average. If you want a .ng domain (our country code top level domain (ccTLD) which can help your website rank higher in nigeria web space), it costs about #6000 to #8500 depending on the domain registrar. If you want a unique domain like .africa .site .agency or .blog, you will get it for much higher cost .

Domain name; which is the one you type in your browser as your URL, has to be unique to be offered at the basic prices. If you are looking for an old/existing domain name, you will be charged more. What I mean is this: if your business name has not been used by someone before, you get the domain cheaply but if you are targeting an old domain name that someone else has bought before but is available for resell, such costs from $60 i.e. over #25,000 and can cost as much as $1000 (#450,000) depending on the seller.

Secondly, the Hosting Fee adds to your website charge. Whether your website developer chooses to use shared hosting, virtual private server or dedicated server, the cost varies widely; from N12,000 to N150,000. For those new to these terms, a hosting server is like the business office space you secure in a business district, it helps to showcase you to many people passing by. Hosting fees are renewable, usually in terms of 12 months, but you can pay ahead of time (e.g. 3 years)

Thirdly, necessary Addons and SSL certificate also add to the web design cost. If you want your website to be much secured from hackers/spammers, you will need to pay for security certificates which comes in different grades. Websites offering financial services, for example, have to pay more for higher level of internet security. Adding gateways for accepting payment in Nigeria using flutterwave / interswitch payment gateway can cost as much as N200,000 depending on internal or external operations. So, when your web developer sends his quote, you can have an idea of why these cost this much.

Lastly, but not the least, is the service charge for the web designer / developer - typically from N15,000 to N250,000
This cost depends on the kind of client / agency, the quality of the job done, the website responsiveness and the functionalities embedded in the website. If you want a custom-made website, rather than one from templates, then you must be ready to pay much more for the designer. I generally advise my clients to opt in for a template design (if you just need a basic corporate website). E-commerce websites costs much higher than blogs and basic websites.
