Business / Access, Sterling, Union Outperform Banking Peers Despite Stock Market Rout by Tinucrown01: 5:18pm On Nov 01, 2019
The past year has been terrible for banking stocks as continued selloffs have caused the banking index to be among the worst-performing sectors in the market. However, Access, Sterling and Union Banks managed to stand out among banking peers by shrugging off the weak investor sentiment bedeviling the Nigerian market to increase their shareholders’ wealth so far this year.

Out of thirteen commercial banks listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), only the three lenders have produced positive returns for investors in a market that has lost as much as 16.14 percent of its market value since the start of the year.

While the banking index, which gauges the performance of the most capitalized and liquid lenders, is down 20.96 percent so far in 2019, shares of Union Bank recorded the biggest gain of 25.89 percent year-to-date (YTD) to N7.05. Access and Sterling Banks have returned 10.29 percent and 5.26 percent of value to investors YTD, bringing their share prices as at the close of trading Wednesday to N7.50 and N2, respectively.

Business / Nigeria: Mainone, Zenlayer Partner To Expand Connections In And Out Of West Afri by Tinucrown01: 10:33pm On Oct 29, 2019
Zenlayer and MainOne have partnered to greatly expand connectivity between international companies and West Africa. As an edge cloud provider with a global private backbone and far-reaching connections, Zenlayer will pave the way for businesses to seamlessly connect with West Africa’s technological hub in Nigeria. MDXi Lekki, MainOne’s Tier III data centre in Lagos, will be the primary point of presence (PoP) for these connections.

The MDXi Lekki data centre will provide quick entry and scale-up opportunities for international companies looking to establish a presence in West Africa. It is the largest purpose-built commercial data centre in West Africa designed with a strong focus on high power availability, security and open-access connectivity. It offers service level agreements (SLAs) of up to 99.99%, with investments in a private substation guaranteeing 95% grid power availability, alongside backup generators in a N+1 configuration. The Tier III data centre currently provides services to a large customer base made up of local and global businesses, providing world-class interconnection via fiber to over 30 telecom operators in the West African telecom ecosystem; and plays host to the West Africa Internet Exchange (WAF-IX) and Nigerian Internet Exchange (IXPN).

Speaking on the data centre, MainOne CEO, Funke Opeke stated, “We are extremely proud of MDXi Lekki. The data centre has been effective in reducing latency and network delay from 200 ms to 100 ms for businesses that had previously been accessing services through Europe and Singapore. Within a few years of operation, MDXi has become the go-to destination for global content seeking a home close to the West African users and for local companies who have digitized their operations and are seeking to enable their customers do business online.”

Zenlayer CEO and Founder Joe Zhu has been impressed by MainOne’s dedication to improving connectivity in West Africa. “Zenlayer is always looking for partners with deep local expertise. MainOne not only has the expertise, they’ve been putting it into practice by deploying multiple PoPs, a 7,000 km submarine cable, and an IP/MPLS network. They’re a perfect partner for us as we introduce our clients to the growing West African market.”

Speaking on the partnership, Director of MDXi, Gbenga Adegbiji said, “We’re excited to be working with Zenlayer as a partner. We want to expand our offerings beyond infrastructure, and Zenlayer’s SD-WAN and Cloud Networking services will be very appealing to our Cloud customers. Furthermore, international users will be able to instantly purchase compute and networking services from any of our data centres across the West African data region through Zenlayer’s Customer Portal. It is a win-win for both our companies, and we are very excited about this partnership.”

Internet growth in Africa has been explosive in recent years. Just 2% of the population had access to the internet in 2005. Last year, that number had climbed to 24% and as of August 2019 was already as high as 40%. West Africa is home to more than 187 million of those internet users, with 56% of them located in Nigeria. That effectively places Nigeria at the centre of Africa’s technological revolution.

MainOne’s submarine cable and data center infrastructure have been critical enablers of African broadband services. As the largest wholesale internet service provider across West Africa, MainOne continues to expand its footprint having recently connected Cote D’Ivoire and Senegal to its submarine cable system and launched its Abidjan Data Centre, with plans to launch the Appolonia Accra Data Centre in Ghana in 2020. The MainOne system traverses the coast of West Africa with fully operational landing stations from Seixal in Portugal through Accra in Ghana to Lagos in Nigeria, the addition of new branches in Dakar, Senegal and Grand Bassam, Cote D’Ivoire and additional branching units in Morocco and Tenerife yet to be connected.

Science/Technology / Nigeria Could Earn Millions In Foreign Exchange From E-waste by Tinucrown01: 10:26pm On Oct 29, 2019
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The recent meeting organized by the E-Waste Collectors Association of Nigeria (ECAN) in partnership with Hinckley Group warned that Nigeria is losing millions of dollars in foreign exchange due to lack of proper disposal, collection and recycling system in the country. The view was expressed by sector experts and Lagos government officials who participated in the event.

The meeting highlighted the urgent need for the transformation of Nigeria’s e-waste recycling sector. It urged to curb activities by informal e-waste collectors by educating them on the dangers of handling toxic e-waste using traditional techniques. The lack of responsible recycling poses a threat to the environment and the population of the country, the meeting noted.

Andrian Clews, Managing Director, Hinckley Group said that almost 99% of the e-waste in Nigeria is handled by the informal sector. Apart from domestic e-waste, the country processes tonnes of used consumer goods from other countries, especially from developed countries. Lack of safe recycling network in the country results in loss of millions of dollars every year, Clews said.

Meantime, senior officials from the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) noted that the regulatory body has already initiated necessary measures to ensure that over 10,000 informal recyclers collect and process e-waste in the most responsible and environment-friendly manner.

Career / THE PROCESS By Tinuade Adeyemi by Tinucrown01: 9:00pm On Oct 11, 2019
PROCESS a series of actions or steps taken to achieve a particular end.

You hear say individual, groups, organization and even legal companies say "We are work in process" what does that tell you?
A Nigerian singer named BURNABOY sang in his song recently, that Dangote is still looking for money so who is he not to work for money?
It means Dangote "the richest man in Africa is still in process"
Bill gate is in the process of turning human faeces into healthy drinking water, What this tells me is that success is a process and maintaining success is a process.
Have you ever think about when the process going to end.

Meanwhile, our process for stardom is quite different, but we all refer to it as process
One of my Instagram Mentor OLAWALE AYILARA said and I quote "slow success builds character and fast success builds ego"

Today, I want to talk about is the PROCESS OF BECOMING A BETTER YOU.

We all want to be our best, but many people wonder if it's possible to become a better person once you're an adult.
The process of becoming a better person is exasperating, difficult continuous action.
It can be a particular habit or attitude you have unconsciously grown up with and it got to the stage it is so evident that such action is not favouring you everywhere you go.
And it can be that you have been doing a particular thing the same way for a very long time and you are not getting your desired result. They say "Only a fool will keep doing things the same way and expect result" Now you realise if success must emerge, the process must change For real, change is inevitable but change is not an easy task.
The feeling of changing the system you have been configured to for a very long time is an awkward feeling your body system does not want to feel.
Going by the principle of success, that says change is a must and necessity. You want to apply, it comes with a lot of determination, sacrifice and a very high cost you must be ready to pay. If we must be successful like we desire, dream, picture, aim, and pray regardless of any PROCESS we are in, we must be ready to change.
To be continued

Celebrities / I Want To Date Chris Brown – Juliet Ibrahim by Tinucrown01: 2:37pm On Aug 30, 2019
She opened up that she has slid into his DMs many times but he won’t just respond to her messages.

The actress who recently launched her new book, A Toast to Life, said she’s had some bad relationships which she spoke about in her book. One of those bad relationships was with an “entertainer”. She added that she’s also had some good ones but isn’t in a relationship at the moment.

She went on to reveal what she desires in a man. According to her, she wants a man who is honest and blunt.

I don’t look for things in people. I don’t try to have expectations,” she told LITV. But I know that if I meet someone and he’s honest enough and that spark is there… that’s what I look for. I like honesty. I like people who are blunt, from the beginning you just pour it all out.

She also opened up about the crush she has on Chris Brown and what she’s doing about it.

She said:- I want to date Chris Brown.

She added:- I don’t know, I like him. I have a crush on him.

She continued jokingly in pidgin:

Why do you want to know my secret? The DMs upon DMs that I don send, e no dey read am.

Getting serious, she said: “I think if I want to meet him, it’s very easy. I know people that know him sort of. But, I just have a crush on him, so it’s not like… But if he comes, we’ll go on that date oh.
