Business / Endless Possibilities Of Social Media Inspired My Love For Media- Iwuchukwu by Tkoy(m): 1:16pm On Dec 26, 2022
Chukwudi Iwuchukwu is a lawyer and entrepreneur who has carved a niche for himself in the media industry. He is the founder of Visage media , a PR company which has given visibilities to a lot brands in the country. He is also a social media influencer and has always bared his on burning national issues.
As activities lined up for his 37th birthday anniversary slated for 28 December kickstarts today,he spoke with ANAMBRA PEOPLE and shared his experience about the media industry and the challenging part of being a entrepreneur in this part of the world, excerpts.

WHAT TRIGGERED YOUR PASSION TO BE AN ENTREPRENEUR?

One of the things that influenced me to be an entrepreneur is my friend Chijioke Ezekpudoghu, he was already an entrepreneur doing well for himself and that influenced me to start something for myself drawing inspiration from what Chijioke has done.

GIVE US A LITTLE INSIGHT ABOUT HOW YOU STARTED YOUR BLOG AND WHAT ACTUALLY HAVE YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO ACHIEVE WITH IT?

Actually, I'm no longer a blogger, I run a media business called Visage media. We into marketing for brands and we help to connect them to their target audience. I was inspired by the endless possibilities of social media and the drive was to see how to use it and connect businesses that are interested in growing their brand and reaching a new audience. I think we have done that successfully in the past 5 years

WHAT BIG IDEAS DO YOU HAVE AS AN ENTREPRENEUR IN THE NEXT FIVE YEARS?

One of the things I hope to do in my lifetime is to run a bigger business than Visage media. I'm thinking of starting a Visage group with an interest in different sectors of the economy.
By Gods grace, we shall start one of our new businesses soon.

HAVE YOU EVER FAILED IN BUSINESS? IF YES, WHAT KEEPS MOTIVATING YOU TO START ALL OVER AGAIN?

Yes, I failed as a blogger. I used to have a blog that is not active again, revenue was not coming in at a point and that was the reason I stopped and diversified into branding and marketing. But it was a learning curve for me. I learned the lessons and then started again by incorporating Visage media. Looking back, I think I made the right decision.

WHAT IS THE TOUGHEST PART ABOUT BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR?

The media business is tough and one of the businesses in Nigeria that the Return on Investment is very slow in coming in. The macro and the micro situation in Nigeria affects our cash flow and revenue because we are a service business and once the clients you are working for are not making money as they used to, it affects the bottom line of our business. Another issue is getting the right talent to run the business with. Hiring the right staff is a big issue.

WHO ARE YOUR MENTORS, OR ROLE MODELS IN BUSINESS, WHAT ARE THE GREATEST THINGS YOU HAVE LEARNT FROM THEM IN BUSINESS?

I think my biggest role model is Peace Mass Transit Chairman, Sir Maduka Onyishi who happens to be one of my clients. I have seen first-hand what he has done with Peace Mass Transit and how he has grown it to a behemoth.

That inspired me to keep pushing knowing that dreams come true and your life can change in a decade.

Another big influence in my entrepreneurial journey is HRM Ebuka Onunkwo,

He lost $3.2 million to his Turkish partners, bounced back from it to found what is known as Seahorse industries Nigeria limited.

These 2 individuals have had a big influence in my life and I’m grateful for their mentorship.

Career / ASUU Strike Made Me Discover The Potentials In Carpentry by Tkoy(m): 10:00am On Sep 26, 2022
ASUU Strike Made Me Discover the Potentials in Carpentry – Richest young Carpenter in Anambra, Nelson Emmanuel.

24 year old Nelson Emmanuel is a graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. He is the Creative director at CarpenterWay Furnishings and Interiors. The company is an Anambra based furniture and interior décor enterprise. In this interview, he spoke with ANAMBRA PEOPLE about his business, ideas and escapades. Excerpts;

HOW DID YOU DISCOVER CARPENTERWAY?

The journey began in 2017 when I was in 300 level. It was as a result of an ASUU strike that lasted for 3 months. I decided to take the advantage to learn carpentry even though I had tried learning other things including Forex and crypto. When I ventured into carpentry, I felt I wouldn’t last in it because I was more or less a soft boy who would rather use his phone or laptop under an air-conditioned room as against doing manual job under the sun. I didn’t really know that I was going to continue but I thank God for my boss who was quite understanding and patient with me.

DID YOU LEARN CARPENTRY OR INTERIOR DECOR?

It was wood work that I started with. You know one needs to start from somewhere. Interior decor and carpentry are intertwined and you can’t talk about one without involving the other. If you delve into one and you are serious with what you are doing, you will also know a thing or two about the other one.

YOU SAID YOU NEVER HAD PASSION FOR CARPENTRY, WHAT ACTUALLY MADE YOU TO STAY PUT IN LEARNING THE CRAFT?

I wasn’t passionate about the craft but that doesn’t mean I hated it. I am a creative person and by default a craftsman, but I didn’t know that my creativity would tilt towards manual work because I’d rather create things with the computer or my phone. Nonetheless, When we started getting interested in wood work, I automatically started developing passion and it grew as I advanced. I could even stay up all night to watch YouTube videos about how people in the developed countries make their own furniture. I noticed that I started dropping a lot of things I was interested in because I have found a new interest.

DO YOU THINK CARPENTRY IS A PERMANENT CHOICE FOR YOU NOW?

There are a lot things that I am meant to do. I’m adventurous and wouldn’t want to be monopolised. But I don’t see wood work/ interior designs as something I would ever drop.

HOW DO YOU WANT TO POSITION CARPENTERWAY TO BE A BRAND?

Carpenterway is definitely going to become a household name; it is going to be one of the A-list interior designs firms. Its our niche to get contracted to design the interior confines of every space from 0 to 100 and render it with a blend of aesthetics and function. We’re already on it and it’s only going to better each passing day.

DO YOU CREATE YOUR OWN DESIGN OR DO YOU GO WITH THE REGULAR DESIGN YOU SEE ON THE INTERNET?

I started off with a lot of designs I see on the internet. How we started breaking free from what we see on the internet was by altering the designs and you know art is relative. Once you alter something about an art, it stops being that particular art. You might be able to see some components of that particular art but it is no longer the same. From there, we started creating CGIs/3D representations. These designs are original, but I can’t dispute the fact that the internet plays a huge role in musing us. Every creative can attest to this notion. The first step towards learning is trying to do what someone else had done because you cannot just wake up and start doing something, you have to learn the process and the mechanism involved.

SHARE WITH US THE JOB THAT BROUGHT YOUR FIRST MILLION AND HOW YOU FELT ABOUT IT?

The job that brought my first million was a full home furnishing.

IS CARPENTERWAY ALL ABOUT THE ELITES, DO YOU ALSO HAVE PACKAGES FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS AND LOW INCOME EARNERS?

I started as a student at the backyard of my lodge and when the landlord started having issues with me, I moved everything I was doing to my one room self-contain apartment. Then, my target was students and when my neighbours saw what I was doing, they started patronizing, without having to break the bank. Till this moment, we have services for students and they remain pocket friendly. So if we can proffer services for students, how much more the middle class and low income earners?
So CarpenterWay is not just for the elite, it is for everyone.

COULD YOU TELL US SOME OF THE MAJOR JOBS YOU HAVE HANDLED?

We have handled a lot of projects for individuals, hotels and offices in and outside Anambra state.

WHAT TYPE OF DESIGN DO PREFER FOR YOUR CLIENTS?

It solely depends on the client and what they want. I could work for a minimalist and also someone that is flamboyant with his ideas so it depends on the space and the client.

HOW OFTEN DOES YOUR JOB COME?

From May 2021 till this very moment, I’ve not gone on a vacation. It goes a long way to tell you how consistent it has been.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OTHER YOUNGER PEOPLE CAN LEARN FROM YOUR STORY TO SUCCESS IN CARPENTRY?

If what you are passionate about doesn’t pay at the moment, you should look for something else to venture into.
If your passion is singing, dancing, being a DJ and at this point in time it doesn’t put food on your table, I think it would only be wise if you try investing your time and energy in other things. You are a youth, you can never go wrong trying or asking questions. You never can tell what could work for you till you get into it.

THE NEW TREND IN TOWN IS DIGITALIZING PROCESSES, WHAT PLANS DOES CARPENTERWAY HAVE TO MAKE THEIR PROCESSES DIGITAL?

Like I said earlier, we do CGI designs; it has also always been on my mind to venture into NFTs too but I want to have 100% idea before I proceed. If I venture into it, it is going to be another way to earn and also advertise the company. It is also going to be resourceful for other young interior designers, since they can go there and get ideas and stay inspired.

ARE YOU FULFILLED AS A CARPENTER?

I am very fulfilled as a carpenter but you know man is insatiable. I am contented with what I have at the moment but that doesn’t mean that I am not striving for more. I am always setting goals for myself, big goals for long-term and small goals for short term. I don’t pressure myself with having to create unattainable goals. So I am fulfilled and grateful for where I am right now.

WOULD YOU SAY YOU HAVE ACHIEVED A BREAKTHROUGH IN BUSINESS OR ARE YOU STILL ON THE WAY?

If having done 100s of jobs with a track record of “no bad jobs” isn’t breakthrough, I don’t know what is.

IS IT VIABLE TO DO BUSINESS IN ANAMBRA STATE?

It is and Anambra has been a blessing to us.

WHO DO YOU LOOK UP TO IN THE INDUSTRY APART FROM YOUR BOSS?

TRT Arraedo is one man I reckon with a hundred percent. The way he thinks up designs and conjure elements is just mind blowing. I relate to his thought process alot and it has its toll on my production.

AS A CARPENTER, ARE YOU RICH?

I think I am a fulfilled man.

It has come to the notice of Chief Nnamdi Emechebe (CEO Nadisco Oil & Gas, Chairman & Founder Ezejiamatu Foundation) that some people close to him hide under his banner to engage in business transactions without his knowledge and authorization, and in some cases, brandish his name while trying to curry favour from some of his business partners. Technology Market / Hydrofuel Canada, Nigerian Innovator, Ejikeme To Produce Green Hydrogen by Tkoy(m): 2:16am On Jul 23, 2022
Hydrofuel Canada, Nigerian Innovator, Ejikeme Enter into Partnership to Produce Green Hydrogen,Others

Hydrofuel Canada Inc. (“Hydrofuel”), a company engaged in the last mile production and delivery of Green Ammonia and Hydrogen to its customers, has entered into a share purchase agreement with Lumos Laboratories Nigeria Limited (Lumos), a company owned by Ejikeme Patrick Nwosu, an Anambra born innovator who is based in Abuja. His company Lumos Laboratories has patented technology to produce green hydrogen, ammonia, fertilizer, electricity and other commodities from human and animal wastes. Under the terms of the share purchase agreement, Hydrofuel will provide funding to commercialize the technology.

ANAMBRA PEOPLE gathered that Lumos developed its technology to address the serious health concerns of communities without centralized sanitary sewage treatment.  Untreated sewage poses a major risk to human health as it contains waterborne pathogens that can cause serious illness, such as cholera, typhoid and dysentery. The World Health Organization estimates that nearly 3 Billion people lack access to improved sanitary facilities, with the lowest coverage in sub-Saharan Africa (37%), Southern Asia (38%) and Eastern Asia (45%). Lumos technology would provide decentralized treatment of sewage on a neighbourhood-by-neighbourhood basis.

Implementing the technology is made possible by the sale of green energy and other by-products captured and generated by the process. In addition to poor sanitation, third world economies typically face energy poverty to heat, cook and provide basic services. Lumos’ technology addresses these concerns in part with the energy produced from its process. It is estimated that the value of the energy that can be captured using this process will enable Lumos to pay residents a small incentive fee for using its waste capture technology, further enabling local economic development. Lumos has secured a consulting contract with the Nigerian Prison Authority to study and pilot its technology. The green hydrogen and ammonia generated will be evaluated and assessed as a fuel for mobility, heat and electrical generation, and as fertilizer.

Lumos’ Inventor and CEO, Ejikeme Patrick Nwosu, said: “We are grateful that we have made this acquisition deal with Hydrofuel Canada as it will offer a wonderful platform to achieve our dream of making clean, affordable, renewable hydrogen-ammonia energy widely available, while reducing the health impacts of untreated waste in our community.”

Celebrities / The Most Popular Anambra People In The Last Six Months by Tkoy(m): 9:30am On Jul 22, 2022
The first half of 2022 has been eventful in Anambra. In politics, where it relates to high profile deaths, sports personalities, Nollywood actors, musicians and songs that became very catchy; these are some of Anambra People who became sensation in the last six months as compiled by ANAMBRA PEOPLE;

Charles Soludo: is currently the governor of Anambra state. He was elected late last year in a keenly contested election. He sustained the popularity he enjoyed during the election into 2022. Again, the buildup to his swearing-in, coupled with a lot of pronouncements he made kept him in the news on daily basis. Most of his policies as governor like the demolition of buildings on waterway, new tax regime, promotion of made in Anambra products has continued to put him in the limelight. There is no day you open a newspaper or social media platforms without seeing something about him.

Peter Obi: the ex-governor of Anambra state is one of the most popular persons in the country and Anambra presently. He had been in the limelight even after his tenure as the governor of the state for his prudent management of the state resources. Being a person who is into brand management, he understands the power of media how to seize the moment. Since his declaration to run for the highest office in the country, Peter Obi has become a sensation. His birthday recently has been adjudged the most celebrated by any politician in the country yet he did not spend a dime. Today, he enjoys cult followership which cuts across age and gender.

Chris Ngige: is the current minister of labour and productivity. Ngige is one of the most visible ministers because of the constant feud between the federal government and labor unions in the country. He is often the arrow head of negotiations between the parties and always at the receiving end of their tantrums. Ngige was also in the news prior to APC primary election when he coughed out 100 million naira to purchase the party’s presidential nomination form at a time when the university workers were on strike and still made a volte face. There is hardly any week in Nigeria since January without news about Sen. Chris Ngige.

Uche Ekwunife
: is a darling of the women folk. She is a senator representing Anambra Central in the Senate. Uche’s popularity is attributed to her philanthropy, her robust representation at the national assembly and her massive constituency projects. She is all season and there is never a time Uche is not in the news commissioning one project or the other, paying courtesy call, on the spot assessment visits, etc. In the just concluded PDP primaries, she was the only aspirant that was never challenged in her party and this received a lot of applaud. This is also not excluding the fact that she is the most popular female politician in the state.

Chimamanda Adichie: has become the most celebrated Igbo woman today. Since January, she has continued to be in the news delivering one lecture or the other. In terms of public speaking across the globe, there is no Anambra person who can rival her record in the last six months. She has been in almost all the continents in the world giving speeches and receiving honorary degrees. Her recent article about the Catholic Church caused a lot of ripples. Chimamanda’s birthday message to Peter Obi few days ago has remained the most read treatise on the presidential candidate since he declared for the position.

Bianca Ojukwu
: the widow of the late Biafran warlord, Chukuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu is among the most popular Anambra People in the last six months. The interest about her came about when she slapped Ebelechukwu Obiano, the wife of immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano. The slap has become a national allusion for other slaps that followed. She was also made the Chairman of Anambra Truth and Reconciliation Commission by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to help douse tension brought about by activities of disparate groups in the state. The appointment received wide acceptance.

Yul Edochie
: has always been in the limelight but his recent second marriage caused a lot of ripples on social media. Yul himself had to admit that he had never been this trolled in his life and added that even his presidential ambition did not receive such publicity.

Emeka Okonkwo
: popularly known as E-Money needs no introduction. He has carved a niche for himself in social media were he enjoys massive followership particularly on Instagram where he has over 10 million followers. His stylish display of his affluence captivates his fans and they are always on the lookout for his updates and giveaways. His 40th birthday bash this year took about 2 months to fizzle out in the media. In January this year, he received award as the Most Influential Person of the Year in Anambra State. He was also appointed NDLEA ambassador recently.

Obinna Iyiegbu
: is a philanthropist and an entertainment mogul. Since the lavish burial ceremony of his mother last year at their hometown, Oba, he has continued to be on the news and has equally become brand ambassador and promoter to many businesses. The unveiling of Odogwu Bitters, one of the brands he promotes further brought him to limelight early this year. He has continued to make waves in the news with the milestones he has continued to achieve. He recently announced intentions to build Abuja Smart City Estate and golf course and paid visit to the governor of Anambra state, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, indicating interest to start some hospitality project around Ogbunike cave. All these have received encomium from Anambra people.

Chukwudozie Nwangwu: also known as ‘’akwa okuko tiwara Aki’’ which is translated as the egg that broke the palm nut. A name which he earned by performing a wonder when he crushed about 24 palm nuts with poultry egg. Akwa, an acclaimed celebrity native doctor enjoys the patronage of the elites in the state and has always been on the news for his spiritual and magical prowess which he claims made it possible for him to be able to attract riches for young men.

Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere
(Odumeje) is a pastor, comedian, and musician who call himself "the liquid metal, "the fight, the lion, the Indaboski Bahose. He is undoubtedly one of the most talked-about and most controversial spiritual figures in Nigeria today. He is regarded more as an entertainer than a pastor. He was also on the news during the demolition of some portion of his church building which blocked a water way. His harassment by one of the task force member went viral and was widely condemned.

Oby Ezekwesili: she has always been on the limelight by lending her voice on the state of the nation on different platforms. She became more poular in the last couple of months when she named the head of Soludo’s transition committee. Her performance in the committee alongside the report she presented to Prof. Soludo made her quite outstanding and popular. People were eager to know the content of the report.

Victor Umeh: is an ex-APGA chieftain who is famous for his signature long red cap and his eloquence. The aftermath of the APGA primaries which saw him defeated by Hon. Dozie Nwankwo by a narrow margin shocked many political observers. The defeat made him move to labour Party where he reconciled with Mr. Peter Obi, a move many never anticipated. He is a partaker of some chunk of Peter Obi’s popularity.

Crime / Soludo Hits Root Of Criminality, Begins Registration Of Native Doctors by Tkoy(m): 5:12am On Jul 21, 2022
The Anambra State Government has commenced the registration of native doctors and allied practitioners in the state to sanitize the sector, ANAMBRA PEOPLE reports.

The state’s Commissioner for Information, Paul Nwosu, who disclosed this to journalists in Awka , the Anambra State capital on Wednesday, said the decision was part of the resolutions reached at the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) Meeting, held at Government House on Tuesday.

He said the development followed a discovery that some of the native doctors were aiding criminals (unknown gunmen) in the state by providing them with assorted charms.

Nwosu said “having discovered that some native doctors provide charms with which gunmen operate, it has become necessary to enumerate and register them as practitioners, categorised into herbalists and spiritualists.

“While government appreciates the fact that some of them add value to health care, it is also not unaware that they have helped to imbue these criminals with the dare-devil confidence that has driven them into committing despicable crimes as kidnapping, extortion of ransom, beheading, etc. Where they are found culpable in such crimes, it will be easy to fish them out from the register”.

Politics / Soludo Mulls Women Pgs For Anambra Communities by Tkoy(m): 8:29am On Jul 14, 2022
For effective governance, Governor Chukwuma Soludo has continued to explore ways through which governance will be more impactful at the grassroots, ANAMBRA PEOPLE reports.

The governor believes that considering how women have become agents of development the world over, there is nothing wrong in bringing them in to play bigger roles in leadership particularly at community level.

Soludo first made the suggestion during a meeting with the executives of Anambra State Town Unions (ASATU) led by Barrister Titus Akpudo (Ichaka), recently, where they discussed issues about welfare and development of various communities across the state.

Also on a Facebook post, Governor Soludo said he made the suggestion of electing women as President Generals of town unions as a way of deepening women participation in leadership activities across the state especially at community level, asking: “Why can’t we have women as Presidents General of communities?”

Reacting to the poser, President-General of Ojoto Town Union Chief Donatus Anozie Ezemadike, said it depends on the constitution of each town unions, that of his town, provides for the existence of women wing, an affiliate of the union which women are free to join and contribute in community development matters.

But to Mrs Ifeoma Aroh, a woman leader in Abatete, there's nothing wrong with having women as PGs of their various communities.

“The position is purely an administrative one and not in any way a cultural position. Today, women take up other administrative positions like VCs, Ministers, senators, governors and chairmen of local governments and if women are excelling in most of these demanding positions, what is so difficult in them becoming PGs of their various communities? She queried.

The governor who was thrilled by the reactions the poser generated stated that he hoped to have a fruitful conversation on that at an expanded fora. “I am interested in having this conversation even though I got responses from them already captured in an earlier paper I wrote some time ago. We will surely get back to this as promised,” the governor concluded.

The Catholic church which is located by Lagos park, along Onitsha- Asaba expressway was among the churches given notice in April this year to relocate . Anambra state government has recently embarked on massive demolition of structures built on drainage and flood to channels in the bid to checkmate the menace of flood in Onitsha.

Governor Soludo seems very resolved in this decision to restore Onitsha to its former glory .

Crime / Diversion Of Staff Allowances To Personal Pocket In Anambra Fire Service (report by Tkoy(m): 1:16pm On Jul 03, 2022
The fire incident of Wednesday 16th of October 2019 was a tragedy of enormous proportions. It was a sad day for the people of Anambra and a wakeup call for the government of Anambra State to give firefighting the attention it deserves through proper equipment and staffing of the Anambra Fire Service. A fuel tanker incident around MCC Onitsha spiraled into a fire disaster on the popular Ochanja market, razing down structures and goods worth hundreds of millions of Naira. There was a general outcry on the inefficiencies and deficiencies of the Anambra fire service prompting the then governor Dr Willie Obiano to order an investigation into the affairs of the State fire service with a view to ascertaining their capabilities and mobilization of the necessary interventions

The investigations revealed that firemen receive only ₦10 (Ten Naira) as their hazard allowances monthly, shockingly. The former Governor ordered immediate raise of the harzard funds to ₦20,000 a month. In addition to the monetary increment, he acquired two new Innoson fire trucks. Further investigations also put the total firemen in Anambra to 80, with about 25 nearing retirement. He therefore approved the recruitment of about 110 new firemen to boost and rejig the workforce.

Investigation by ANAMBRA PEOPLE revealed that between August 2021 to April 2022, Anambra state recorded more than 60 fire incidences and over 20 of those incidences did not record the presence of Anambra Fire Service. One begins to wonder why the firemen suddenly became unresponsive and less passionate towards their jobs.

Examples of the recent fire incidences are the Upper Iweka tanker fire incident in February, 2022. A fire truck appeared on the scene after an hour since the inferno started despite the closeness of fire stations (Okpoko, Ochanja, Main market). Usually, those stations either claim that they had no serviceable truck or available firemen on sight. Other notable incidents were the tanker fire incidents at Ihiala in September 2021 and April 2022 which razed down shops, buildings, businesses and residential structures worth billions of naira. The first Ihiala fire incident in September 2021 prompted ex-governor Willie Obiano to provide a serviceable truck to Ihiala fire station located at the local government head Quarters Ihiala with a road-show around town to create awareness. People were elated until the April 2022 incident which saw a fire truck arrive the scene after about 1hr 30mins of the raging inferno. It is important to note that the truck which eventually appeared on the scene came all the way from Awka. Needless to say that the fire had already wrecked great havoc on people's properties. The lateness of the truck to the scene of the incident prompted angry fire victims to attack the fire truck.

These are aside fire incidences at Nnewi, Mobil filing station at Awka, the Agulu fire incident that occurred on the 26th December, 2021 which burnt over 12 persons beyond recognition, etc.

ANAMBRA PEOPLE began investigations to unravel the challenges facing Anambra Fire Service with a view to proffering the way forward in achieving the supposed aim of the fire service which is "saving lives and properties".

From our findings, people’s perception about the Anambra fire service since the Ochanja fire disaster dropped drastically. Over 40% of people we interviewed confirmed they won't bother to call fire service, 20% agreed they would call fire service but wouldn't expect any quick responses, another 20% said they would call fire service with high hopes while 20% said they would call the fire service but wouldn't believe in the effectiveness or efficiency when they finally arrive.

Again, some of the firemen we interviewed in the course of our investigations on the condition of anonymity confirmed the poor state of the Anambra Fire Service.

Here are our findings under the following subheadings;
Staff Welfare
--------------------
Anambra fire service is a department in the ministry of public utilities. To be employed under the Ministry of Public Utilities, you must either be an Engineer or a WAEC holder. To be posted to work in fire service, you must either have a degree or HND in Mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or civil engineering as a senior officer. If you don't have the above qualifications, you will be admitted with only your O' Level as a junior officer or a file as their term goes.

However during the recruitments approved by the then state governor Dr Willie Obiano in 2021, degree holders from other disciplines (apart from the three acceptable engineering courses earlier mentioned) were accepted by the civil service commission into the fire service fold, these make up to 38 of about 110 new recruits while over 40 others were just WAEC holders.

By implication, these 38 degree holders were sent to other ministries as their mother ministry and were redeployed to fire service as firemen. This implies that their mother ministry will pay their salaries but they would be working and earning allowances in fire service. For example if Mr Okafor who studied mass communications was part of the new recruits as a degree holder, he would be sent to the ministry of information for documentation as his mother ministry and then redeployed to serve in fire service for which the employment was made. His salary would be worked under the ministry of information but he will not receive any allowances from the ministry of information since he was posted back to fire service as his place of primary assignment. He would then receive allowances designed for firemen.

Unfortunately, these 38 men have not received a single hazard allowance from fire service since they started work in 2021. They were told that since they don't belong to the ministry of utilities, they are not eligible to receive the hazard. This is regardless of the fact that they keep fighting fire and facing hazards. Their counterparts who were employed under the ministry of utilities receive their 20,000 naira monthly leaving these 38 heartbroken and without a desire or passion to carry out their responsibilities efficiently.

Several attempts to reach the fire chief Engr Agbili Martin proved futile. We however understand that these 38 men are spread across the 11 fire stations across the state and if they lose passion for the job, it will definitely affect the morale of their colleagues and dampen their passion for their risky job.

We are yet to receive any responses from the office of the head of service or the ministry of utilities but our investigators found out that these allowances meant for these 38 gentlemen might have been continuously diverted to personal pockets from August 2021 till date and it amounts to ₦8,360,000. The only excuse is that they don't belong to the ministry of utilities. It is a lame excuse, obviously.

The primary aim of every government is protection of lives and property. Security isn't just making sure that the State is rid of criminal elements. It is also about ensuring that possible hazards like fire are prevented and/or prepared for. This means that having a robust firefighting service is indispensable for every responsive government. It is a proactive measure. The robustness of the fire service isn't just about provision of sufficient firefighting equipment. It is also about ensuring that those who risk their lives and limbs as fire fighters are well remunerated and motivated. These remunerations should include health insurance and life insurance packages. It is the least any serious government can do to attract FDI. The New York City Fire Department has over ten thousand uniformed firefighting employees. The government should do well to rejig the firefighting service of Anambra State, looking into issues of remuneration and other incentives for optimal performance. Please keep a date with us next week as we discuss other areas that enable the poor performance and the inefficiencies of the Anambra Fire Service.

Politics / Stella Odua Risks Disqualification For Absconding From NYSC Scheme by Tkoy(m): 9:00am On May 26, 2022
The National Youth Service Corps has disclosed that the senator representing Anambra North, Stella Oduah, did not complete the mandatory one-year NYSC programme, ANAMBRA PEOPLE reports.

This was disclosed in a letter, marked NYSC/DHQ/PPRU/783/Vol III, obtained by The PUNCH.
The letter was in response to an inquiry made by a group known as the Concerned Anambra North PDP Stakeholders.

The group had written to the NYSC, alleging that some officials of the agency colluded with Oduah to bury the truth.

The NYSC, however, responded through a letter by the Director-General of the programme, which was signed on his behalf by the Director of Press and Public Relations. The agency said Oduah commenced her NYSC programme in 1982 but absconded.

The NYSC denied colluding with the former Minister of Aviation to hide the truth.

The letter reads in part: “In response to your request, we wish to state that the facts of the matter remain as follows: Stella Adaeze Oduah was mobilised for national service in 1982/1983 service year and deployed to Lagos State.

"After the orientation course, she absconded and never completed the national service. The consequence of this is that she is not qualified for the issuance of the certificate of national service.

"Section 2 (1) of the NYSC Act makes it obligatory for every Nigerian who graduates to ‘make himself available for service for a continuous period of one year from the date specified in the call-up instrument served upon him.’”

According to the NYSC Act, the four categories of individuals exempted from the national service are those who graduated above the age of 30, those who have served in the Armed Forces or the Nigeria Police for a period of more than nine months; those who served in intelligence organisations and individuals who bagged national honours before graduation.

It remains unclear how Oduah’s failure to complete her NYSC escaped the scrutiny of agencies like the Department of State Services (DSS), which usually investigates ministerial nominees.

In her CF001 forms submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in 2019, Oduah claimed that she completed her NYSC but her certificate was missing along with other credentials.

An affidavit she deposed read in part, “Sometime in 2010 while in transit from Akili Ozizor in Ogbaru local government area to Abuja, I discovered that some of my personal belongings were missing.

"The missing documents are the originals of my West African School Certificate of 1978 from Zixon Secondary School Ozubulu, First School Leaving Certificate from St. John Odoakpu Onitsha; Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Certificate 1982 from St. Paul’s College Lawrence Virginia USA; National Youth Service Corps certificate 1983, national identity card, United States of America Social Security card with numbers in it.”

Stella Oduah is not new to controversies; she was sacked as Minister of Aviation on February 12, 2014.

SaharaReporters had exclusively exposed how shipping and merchant vessel documents showed that Oduah purchased and registered an oil tanker a few months before she was sacked by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Mrs. Oduah was sacked by Mr. Jonathan following a series of reports done by SaharaReporters connecting her to a massive BMW vehicle scandal. Later, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) discovered that N2.5 billion was put in a bank account under the name of Mrs. Oduah’s home help.

Business / Peter Obi Made Me Without Knowing Me – Obinwugo, Ijele Tea Founder by Tkoy(m): 6:48pm On May 22, 2022
So many things have been trending recently, mostly bad news, a lot of noise and I decided as usual to go Stealth for a while...

However, there is one man that has this uncommon capacity to make me change decisions anytime; this man is Peter Obi.

I have made decision that I will not vote again in Nigeria but Peter Obi coming out for President will make me change that decision.

I have decided to stay off Facebook but because I want to make a confession about my experience with Peter Obi and his legacies, I will write again once more.

Many testimonies and great stories have been associated with Peter Obi but I think there is another aspect and narrative many people still need to know about Peter Obi's legacies...

That aspect affects the Story of my Entrepreneurial life.

Around 2010, Peter Obi as the then Anambra State Governor met with Evelyn Oputu who was then the MD of Bank of Industry (BOI) and made a novel proposal for Anambra state to invest a counter-part fund to open more access for SMEs in Anambra to loan/credit facilities. Oputu was excited at the great idea/proposal and accepted at once for such partnership. Peter Obi at then invested N2billion of Anambra State money into the Bank of Industry with the mandate to give more credit facilities to SMEs in Anambra State. Consequently, the Bank of Industry has to partner with the State Ministry of Commerce and Industry through the liason officer.

That period, a lot of Entrepreneurs in Anambra especially the ones in Ezeiweka plastic industrial cluster Obosi had access to funds ranging from N5million, N8million to N10million and it was an era of Economic prosperity for many entrepreneurs in Anambra State.

Evelyn Oputu went ahead to introduce the Obi's strategy of counterpart funding to other states, some responded and it spread throughout Nigeria...

In 2010, I graduated from the University, 2011-2012 did my NYSC and in 2012 I officially registered my business enterprise: OBINWUGO FARMS.

At the registration of my business, I created and started to build a Brand called Zobo Cola. It was a Hibiscus drink product packed in 500ml and 250ml pet bottle and branded respectively.

In 2013, I was introduced to the Bank of Industry by a friend of Prof Pat Utomi called Paul Okpue through a friend of mine Daniel. Paul Okpue told me to go to the Bank of Industry that I was qualified to be given a loan facility.

I immediately made my move to the Southeast regional office in Enugwu with my Zobo products, there I met wonderful staff like Harrison, Tolu, Seyi, Leye, Obaro and others, they were so excited to see a local content and they promised to help me secure a loan facility to support my business. It was then I was told of Anambra State Counterpart funding made by Peter Obi and that I can benefit from it.

I was introduced to the BOI liaison Officer from the Anambra State Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Engr Malo, another nice and wonderful man. My loan application was processed; of course as a beginner I made a lot of mistakes but the Staff of BOI and Engr Malo helped put me through, in 2014, I got a loan of N3.86million from the Anambra/BOI funds. The arrangement of the counterpart fund is that half of the money comes from the N2billion Anambra funds while the other half comes from the BOI. That was the first time Peter Obi touched my life personally through his policies without knowing me personally.

In 2015, the then MD of BOI, Mr Olaoluwa from my records picked my brand as one of the promising Entrepreneurs from the South East in Nigeria and invited me to the head office in Marina Lagos at the Launch of Graduate Entrepreneurship Fund (GEF) an initiative to fund Start-up businesses by the passing out corpers from NYSC. There I reconnected with my childhood friend Mr Raphael Egbue who was working in their BOI ICT department, it was a refreshing experience.

I was also featured in Tell magazine, Channels TV, NTA and other media outfits

Same 2015, I was recommended by the BOI to the Federal government for National Award during their 2015 MSME Summit. It was done in the Banquet Hall, Aso Rock and presided by the Vice president Prof. Yemi Osibanjo. That was my first time visiting the Aso Rock and meeting the Vice president physically.

In 2016, I finished the payment of that first loan (both principal and interest), by that time Peter Obi had left office and handed over to the next governor; Willy Obiano, but Obi's legacy in the BOI still remained alive and active.

Consequently in 2017, I was given another N3million loan facility from that revolving Anambra/BOI loan created by Peter Obi. Unfortunately, the harsh economic realities that came with the Buhari's administration crippled my business and I lost almost everything...

But the downfall of a man is not his end... Adversity can either kill a man or make him emerge stronger. It is a matter of choice

Hence in 2018, I did a hard long reflection, review and analysis of my failures and came out with a New and Stronger Brand called IJELE TEA, it is a tea product which I started with 2 variants; the Ijele Lemon Tea and Ijele Hibiscus Tea (I actually converted my previous product/brand ZoboCola from a cold drink to tea bags and gave it another Name)

That same 2018, I went back to the BOI with my new product Ijele Tea and narrated to them my challenges, setbacks and the need to give me another loan to continue my Entrepreneurial journey. Looking at my track records, they gave me another loan of N2million from the same Anambra/BOI loan making it a total of N5million (adding the previous N3million from 2017)

I started bootstrapping with the very little available funds at my disposal to build Ijele Tea. I went to Stores and Supermarkets; I was accepted by some and rejected by some. Many at that time laughed at the name I gave my product; IJELE...

In June 2019, I made my first major breakthrough into a major hypermarket market in Nigeria and that Hypermarket is NEXT Cash and Carry, a Hypermarket that was given birth by a business cooperation created by Peter Obi 25 years ago when he was in the private sector as a successful business man. Next Cash and Carry has a policy to support locally manufactured brands and hence I was accepted swiftly on the grounds of local content. Peter Obi's legacy in the private sector did it for me again...

By entering Next Cash and Carry, I leveraged on the big brand to penetrate other major Stores like Roban Stores, the biggest Store in the South East Nigeria.

By the end of 2019, I made it as a vendor into Shoprite with a strong argument that my business is an Anambra State sponsored Enterprise using the Peter Obi's Anambra/BOI loan initiative. It was the then Anambra State commissioner for information under Obiano's Administration Mr C.Don Adinuba aided to present the case to the MD of Shoprite Mr. Carl Erikson and Shoprite also having the policy to support local content accepted my product Ijele Tea.

By February 2022, through the grace of Chiukwu Okike, I have finished the payment of both the N3million and N2million (both principal and interest) respectively.

Today, I look back at my 10 years journey in food manufacturing/ agro-processing entrepreneurship and I found out that Peter Obi has been a great part of this journey through his legacies both in the Government and the Private sector, yet I have never met him physically. He does not even know me personally but his legacies have recognized my existence and have impacted my life in great ways.

Consequently, I can provide for myself and my family irrespective of the harsh economic realities in Nigeria. Values have been created and people have fed through these values that I created and Peter Obi is part of all these.

So when you hear Peter Obi talk about supporting SMEs in his presidential manifesto, just know that he has done it before and I am a living testimony of his legacies.

Therefore, notwithstanding my strong support for a Referendum to determine our coexistence in Nigeria, I will Support Peter Obi in his quest to serve as the president of Nigeria. I will support him till the end... If he wins, I win with him, if he fails, I fail with him. Whichever way, if we ever miss Peter Obi at this critical time of our existence in this country, we have lost big time!

Esirọ ofu ụzọ eje Onịcha...
A na-eme ọ́nwà, a na-eme ibe ya..

It's time to aggressively fight for our future! from all angles.

Ndewo nụ.

Politics / I'm Still In The Race, tony Nwoye Refutes Alleged Disqualification By PDP by Tkoy(m): 6:12pm On Apr 29, 2022
By Paschal candle

Ordinarily I would not have wasted my time in replying to this baseless and figment of imagination of Senator Stella Oduah, but for the sake of the general Public who the writer intend to deceive with the fake news.

(2)First, I want the general Public to know that the writer of the fake news is one Chukwunonso Chukwudelu with the phone number 08062445378, who doubles as Media Aide to Senator Stella Oduah.

(3) Putting the records straight,Dr Tony Nwoye has no criminal record anywhere. He has not been charged or convicted by any Law Court in Nigeria or abroad. Dr Tony Nwoye is not a member of any secret cult or society and we challenge Senator Stella Oduah and her cohorts to produce any evidence if they have.

(4) There was no petition whatsoever before PDP screening Committee when Dr Tony NWOYE appeared before the panel.

(4)This writeup by Senator Stella Oduah is her own wishful thinking and reveals her plot to become candidate through the backdoor without contest because she has no credible account of her 8 years stewardship in National Assembly .

(5)Senator Stella Oduah who is looking for somebody to cite for fraudulent actions is the one who is standing trial for stealing over #7.9 billion naira at Federal High court Abuja by EFCC.She should bury her head in shame and remove the wood in her eyes before looking for someone else.

(6) For avoidance of doubt, Dr Tony Nwoye has been cleared to contest senate election for Anambra North by the screening committee of PDP.

(7)We enjoin all the well wishers and supporters of Dr Tony Nwoye to remain prayerful and maintain the peace.

This should be followed by prompt and proper maintenance of roads, properties of the state as well as remuneration of civil servants. Everyone knows what’s good. Let me not exhaust it” (sic).

EZENWANNE MATTHEW OLUCHUKWU- “Soludo for me should first of all ban thuggery in any form, especially in Onitsha, and devise a more decent and civilized ways of revenue collection. These touts are actually shortchanging the Govt, since they return only a fraction of what they extort from people. Secondly, he should work on roads, most of the roads in Anambra at the moment is messy. In addition, I will also like him to empower the youths, provide soft loans for start ups, and also appoint a enough youths into his government. Finally, let him also improve security of lives and properties in Anambra, we are gradually losing out in terms of security” (sic).

SIR DAN AJAEGBU JP- “While welcoming the Governor elect, on behalf of Onitsha GRA phase 2 Akpaka, l wish to draw your attention to deplorable condition of our roads. During Gov. Obi’s tenure roads were constructed without asphalt before he handed over to Gov. Obiano. Unfortunately the community was forgotten throughout Gov. Obiano’s stay and the roads became too bad. We are calling on Gov. Soludo to come over to Akpaka in Onitsha North local government to help us” (sic).

DAMEON OKECHUKWU- “We are almost going to a level of lawlessness in the society. Personally, I wish the governor can tackle the insecurity challenge in the state and youths restiveness. Also the stop the increased rate of rituals and internet fraudsters. Anambra people are known for hardwork and wisdom. We the Anambrarians are positive thinkers, so I urge the governor to set up an Anambra owned business empire.whete every person from the state will be represented. Also the task of the state should be electronically collected and no getting into the hands of touts the miscreants. Pls your excellency sir.i request we venture into exploring our own natural resources both man and nature. JUSTICE EB RYMAM- “Get rid of all the ‘Agboros’, touts off our roads n parks… Fix our roads as well” (sic).
JEFF ONYEDILI- “Apart from dismantling all the illegal revenue agents in all the markets in the state which the Obiano’s administration has been using for self-enrichment, Soludo should revisit all the crisis in town development unions which are so rampant under the outgoing commissioner Greg Obi and which were due to impunity in cahoots with some godfather influence under the Obiano government” (sic).
