Politics / Re: "Jega Will Go, Heavens Won't Fall" - Ayo Fayose by tkwo: 10:05pm On Mar 04, 2015 |
holucunleh: Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described outbursts of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the possible removal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega as “mere comedy,” saying; “President Goodluck Jonathan can sack Jega if he wishes and if he does, heavens will not fall.”
The governor, who said the APC should stop acting as if Nigeria belongs to the party, added that; “by turning themselves to advocates and defenders of the INEC chairman, the APC and its agents have shown that they have a deal with Jega to manipulate the elections and that the deal will be frustrated if he is asked to leave office.”
Governor Fayose said in a release issued on Wednesday, and signed by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, that “removal of Jega and any other appointees of the
Federal Government is a prerogative of the president, which no one can question, provided laid down rules are followed.”
He said the position expressed by the House of Representatives was that of the APC members in the House, urging that “the APC lawmakers should rather pay attention to the ill-health of their party’s presidential candidate, Major General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd), whose whereabouts is now a mystery.”
The governor described Jega as partisan, saying; “By his actions and utterances, Jega had already demonstrated his bias in support of the APC. For instance, how can Jega explain the 80 percent distribution of
Permanent Voters Card (PVC) in Boko Haram ravaged Borno and Yobe States while less than 40 percent distributed in Lagos as at February 7 that the election was postponed?”
He said; “It is on record that Prof Maurice Iwu was asked to proceed on terminal leave two months to the end of his tenure? Is Jega not a beneficiary of Iwu’s removal? So if Iwu was asked to go on terminal leave before the expiration of his tenure for Jega to assume office, what difference does it make if Jega too is asked to proceed on terminal leave before the expiration of his tenure?”
Speaking further, Governor Fayose said; “it is the president that can determine whether or not Jega will go on the mandatory three months terminal leave which should commence on March 8, and if the president decides that the INEC chairman should go on terminal leave, what can the APC loudmouths do?
“They boasted before the postponement of the elections that they would go on street protests, but did they do anything? They made noise when Justice Isa Ayo Salami was removed from office as president of the Court of Appeal, what did their noise amount to? “Therefore, let me say it categorically that the noise being made by the APC and their agents will amount to nothing because if thepresident removes Jega today, heavens will not fall.”

Politics / Re: APC Formed To Install A Northerner As President - EDWIN CLARK by tkwo: 4:29pm On Feb 27, 2015 |
Kingspin: ABUJA- AHEAD of the Presidential and general elections slated for March 28 and April 11 respectively, former Federal Commissioner for Information and South South leader, Chief Edwin Clark claimed yesterday that the All Progressives Congress, APC was formed with the sole aim of installing a northerner as the president of the country.
Speaking yesterday when he received the leadership and members of the Yoruba Youth Council, Worldwide at his Asokoro residence, Abuja led by its National President, Comrade Eric Oluwole, Chief Clark who noted that APC would no longer function if its Presidential candidate was removed from the party, said, ” APC was formed to install a northerner as the president of Nigeria. You saw what happened at the Presidential primaries of the APC where Buhari emerged with very wide margin. Without Buhari, there will be no APC. ”
The Ijaw leader who took a swipe at the APC Presidential candidate, said that he was not fit to fight corruption as he has been campaigning all around, said “Nigeria belong to all of us, no tribe has the monopoly of ruling us. Nobody is a second class citizen. We all are first class citizen of this country.”
While commending the youth organization, Clark who noted that it was the first time in the nation’s political history that a large youth organization such as YYC would identify with the government of the day, especially with someone who hails from the minority, said, “Nigerians will only allow a democratically elected President. Buhari in 1983 overthrew a democratically elected President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari because he got the wind that Shagari was going to hand over to a Southern President.
“Buhari lied over his certificate, even the picture on the certificate is older than the certificate. How can a person accused of perjury be talking about corruption.”
Earlier, President of Yoruba Youth Council, YYC, Eric Oluwole who disclosed that they were endorsing President Goodluck Jonathan’s re- election bid and prepared to work for his victory, said the council was fully committed to the return of Jonathan to Aso rock come May 29, adding, “The YYC has endorsed Jonathan to return as President. We want continuity. We will not allow a 72 year old man to determine our lives for us.
“There is no alternative among other contestants that is as genuine as Jonathan. His achievement in yoruba land is tremendous. Everyone can see d good work of Jonathan. “The achievements of President Jonathan in Yoruba land has far out-shown that of any government in Nigeria since 1999 no matter the commitments of certain quarters to demystify these giant strides.”
The group continued, “Our visit here today is to acquaint you of our decision to declare full support for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan and to mobilize all the Yoruba Youth throughout Nigeria, whose views and convictions go a long way in re- moulding public opinions.
Through thorough deliberations we resolved on the dire need to return President Goodluck Jonathan as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, because looking objectively as it is today, there are no alternative in all the contending Political parties that are as genuine and focused as President Goodluck Jonathan. He may not be an example of perfection but he represents today the most available and well positioned messenger in protecting our long won democracy and all round economic advancement that Nigeria anticipate.
“The Achievements of President Goodluck Jonathan in Yoruba land has far out- shown that of any government in Nigeria since 1999 no matter the commitments of certain quarters to demystify these giant strides.
Looking at developments in Yorubaland alone aside enormous achievements all over the country. Lagos- Ibadan expressway which had always been a reason for complains in ages, now witnessing monumental reconstruction and expansion. Benin-Ore-Shagamu expressway had never ‘witnessed this type of reconstruction since 1999. Apapa – Oshodi Expressway now has good Testimonies, Akure- llesha road in Ondo state, everyone can see the goodworks going on there.
In the power sector, we have seen the construction of new Power plants, viz-a-viz Omotosho and Olorunshogo phase 11, which are part of the 6 new generating Companies constructed by this administration, whatever is remaining with power is to perfect the transmission and distribution logistics with new private companies and there will no longer be power outages.
“The Yoruba Youth Council (YYC) Worldwide specially shows unreserved appreciation to the President Goodluck Jonathan for the ingenious approach to fighting unemployment which is NOT exclusive to Nigeria but world over.
With the advancement of Technologies that make large corporations to no longer need large army of workers. President Goodluck Jonathan had bravely encouraged our youth through creative industries, he approved a special support scheme for the creative industry and directed Nex-Im Bank to provide backing for the Industry.
“Many creative industries have benefitted from this initiative. The Jonathan Administration, through the Project Advancing Creativity and Technology (PACT) in Nollywood, has provided a N3 billion grant programme for Nollywood. In 2013, the fund supported capacity building and Illm production in the industry.
About 120,000 youth already employed so far in the SURE-P Program, about 4,000 Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS). Over 2,300 winners from SURE~P, these are all benefits to the Youth. Mr President has proven himself beyond doubts as a good and sincere leader, in one of the meetings we had sometimes ago with our Afenifere leaders \ as YYC principal body in Yoruba land, the contents of the resolutions of the National Confab were discussed to details and we were able to see much clearly that as soon as we start implementing these resolutions, especially as we commence the second term dispensation of President Goodluck Jonathan, by Gods grace.
All the major challenges that confront this country will become history. We refer to Unemployment, Industrialization, power outages, more condusive environment for businesses to thrive, etc. We want to appreciate “Mr President specially for the Egbin power plant that was inagaurated by him in Lagos at Ikorodu recently. Nothing less than over 8 millions of Yoruba youths will cast their votes for President Goodluck Jonathan.”

According to him, Nigerians deserve the truth from her leaders and he promised to tell Nigerians the truth. Gov Fayose said contrary to what the APC is saying, General Buhari is at the Cavendis Square in London.
"Buhari is on the sick bed at Cavendis Square, London. They should come out and say so. I am not wishing him dead but we have a duty to always speak the truth. The APC have been trying to cover it up by not allowing him travel out but the man knows he is sick and so, he decided to go for medical check. But my argument is that General Buhari is old, even to govern a state. Governing this country needs energy and strength. We don’t want a president that will be inside the house and other people will hijack that government from him and start governing Nigeria as if it is their personal property. They will need to educate the people to read between the lines. I am not against General Buhari, there must be a leader at a given time, but the fact remains that he is frail and not strong enough to run the affairs of this country.” he said
Asked whether he sent people to spy on Gen Buhari and his team in London, Governor Fayose said "They are entitled to whatever they say. I have said to you, they can’t find answers to a lot of things that I talked about. I come with facts, publish them in newspapers. At General Buhari’s age, I don’t need to run after him. We are playing politics, I need to present before Nigerians facts and figures. My prayer for Buhari is that he should live long in good health. And I want to tell you that anybody claiming that I have sent anyone after General Buhari in London is only running his mouth because they can’t find answers to questions begging for answers when I present them to the public. They claimed that they don’t want soldiers for elections; when they win election soldiers are good, but when they lose even when their candidates have conceded, they say soldiers are bad. For them to be doing propaganda I said General Buhari cannot be president because he is being promoted by propaganda. If it’s by vote, General Buhari will not win. I’m telling you again, mark it. I’ve always told you when I left office that I will come back. I didn’t say it a month to election, I’ve been saying it a long time ago that I will come back as governor of Ekiti State. I’ve never said anything politically that failed, General Buhari will not win this election" he said Do you see similarities in both rooms?

Politics / Re: Governor Kwankwaso Says Buhari Is Healthier Than Jonathan by tkwo: 4:20pm On Feb 23, 2015 |
kay29000: The Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has stated that the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Muhammadu Buhari is in a better health condition than President Goodluck Jonathan and is therefore, fit to rule Nigeria.
Mr. Buhari, a former Head of State and Retired General of the Nigerian Army, is presently on a working visit to the United Kingdom.
His campaign office had issued a statement Thursday saying in the course of the visit, Mr. Buhari will hold meetings with key members of the British political establishment and interact with some global institutions with interest in the affairs of Nigeria.
“General Buhari would hopefully give a talk at the prestigious foreign policy hub, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatam House in London, the spokesperson for his campaign, Garba Shehu, said.
However, there has been wide speculation by supporters of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, that Mr. Buhari was actually ferried out to receive medical attention because his health was failing.
The Kano governor who had a chat with newsmen in Kano on Sunday said Mr. Buhari has no health challenges.
“By my judgement, since we finished our party primary elections, he is sound, hale and fit to rule this country. “In fact I feel he is healthier than the incumbent occupier of the seat because he went to all the states on campaigns in addition to other engagements that come in between,” he said.
Mr. Kwankwaso also accused the Federal government and the ruling PDP of sharing money to win the presidential election fixed for March 28.
He said money alone cannot give success in the forthcoming elections.
“The Federal Government and the PDP can use all the money in the treasury to bribe whoever they want, but God, the Almighty, has his own way of doing things.
“Power belongs to Him not to those with money or who control security agencies. Nigerians are wiser,” he said. On his stewardship as governor, Mr. Kwankwaso said every state governor can work to develop their states unless if they chose to steal instead.
“People are surprised and many are asking questions that where did we get the money to do these projects we are doing in Kano. But the truth of the matter is that – you cannot steal and perform. It is the money for projects that people steal that is why they are not performing. In Kano we don’t steal,” he said.
He enumerated some of the landmark projects he undertook in the state to include the award of an Independent Power Project at Tiga and Challawa-Gorge Dam at the cost of N14.2BN, establishment of one garment factory in each of the 44 local governments in the state and the establishment of a Micro Finance bank also in each of the 44 local governments.
Mr. Kwankwaso also said 44 Schools for Islamic Studies and 44 Technical Schools were built in the state. “These were with a view to ensure that all our children that finished primary school get space to proceed to have post-primary education
“I feel so fulfilled that our governments as been able to encourage Kano people to accord education the priority it deserves,” he said.

Politics / Re: Jonathan Seeks Support Of Yoruba Leaders To Get More South-West Votes by tkwo: 1:52pm On Feb 20, 2015 |
PhockPhockMan: Jonathan Renews Efforts To Woo South-west Voters.
President Goodluck Jonathan and his campaign handlers have redoubled their efforts to get significant votes from the South-West during the March 28 presidential election.
The PUNCH gathered on Thursday that the decision was based on calculations that the zone, because of its high number of registered voters, was critical to Jonathan’s re-election.
A Presidency official told one of our correspondents that that was why the members of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council decided that Jonathan should reach out more to political, opinion leaders and traditional rulers in the zone with a view to getting their support.
He said that Jonathan and his handlers had therefore decided to use his ongoing visit to the South-West to carry out the task.
Jonathan, who was in Lagos on Thursday to inaugurate four Naval platforms, is expected to remain in the zone till Sunday. He later met with the Yoruba Council of Elders at the State House, Marina, Lagos.
Our source said the campaign team believes that the meeting could easily influence their (YCE ) followers to support Jonathan.
According to him, barring any last minute change in plan, Jonathan will be visiting the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, on Saturday.
On the same day, the President will visit the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade.
He said, “You will recall that when the President visited Ibadan for his campaign, he only visited Olubadan. We have identified the need for him to also visit the Alaafin of Oyo.
“The same thing happened when we were at Osogbo for the presidential rally. He visited the Ataoja of Osogbo. We have found it necessary to visit the Ooni of Ife.
“More traditional rulers from the zone will be reached out to during this period, one way or the other.
“The simple message for these monarchs is for them to support the President’s re-election bid.”
The opposition All Progressives Congress controls three states in the South-West(Lagos, Oyo and Osun) while Jonathan’s Peoples Democratic Party is in charge of Ekiti and Ondo states. The PUNCH had reported exclusively on Tuesday that following the delay of polls dates, the PDP Campaign Council had resolved to begin another round of state-wide campaigns.
It was reported then that unlike the just-concluded campaigns that took Jonathan to about 35 states, about 10 states would be visited during this round for more “penetration and consultations.”
Some Yoruba leaders, who converged on Akure, Ondo State on Thursday to review the recommendations of the National Conference, concluded that a vote for Jonathan would ensure the implementation of the conference’s recommendations.
The meeting by the Yoruba leaders under the aegis of Afenifere Group. was tagged, ‘’National Conference, 2015 Elections and the Yoruba Nation.’
The Chairman of the occasion, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, set the tone of the meeting, saying that the support expressed by Afenifere for Jonathan was not partisan but based on the interest of the South-West people.
He said the vision of a restructured Nigeria was being realised with the convening of the 2014 National Conference.
Adebanjo said, “We are supporting Jonathan because of the consistency of the Yoruba to have this country restructured so that it can develop.
“People are calling for change. I want a change in the constitution of Nigeria. Only a change in the constitution can truly bring about the change that we need.”
The convener of the summit, who is also the Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, stressed the need for change in the 1999 Constitution so as to enable the Yoruba nation to grow its economy independently.
He said, “The Confab report, when implemented, will create room for each state to have its own constitution, its own police force, its own prison service. Each state can create its own local government, can build its own airports, sea ports and railways in addition.
In the economic domain, solid minerals that had been the exclusive preserve of the Federal Government since independence, have now been brought to the concurrent list. States can now create employment and develop at their own pace. With all that, it liberates everybody; it opens up the political space.”
Mimiko noted that Jonathan was genuinely committed to transforming Nigeria through the convening of the National Conference, adding that the outcome had proved sceptics wrong.
He said now that those deriding the conference had been proved wrong, they had been scheming “to hijack power so as to throw the Confab report to the dustbin of history.”
In their goodwill messages, the Founder of the O’odua Peoples Congress, Frederick Faseun, and the National Coordinator, OPC, Gani Adams, warned that the National Conference report remained a vehicle for actualising the Yoruba dream of a prosperous South-West.

SKORROR: In my own opinion the Nigerian Army should be deployed to all the pooling units nationwide so as to prevent the electorate from being molest by some political hallelujah boys..... if police is not strong enough to protect us, then we need to address the reasons why they cant. we need to let everybody know their roles and duties. Also ensure those duties are done when required. |
