A teacher wouldn't do much for you since you know how to read hangul. 저는 나이지리아에 있어요 means "I'm in Nigeria". 저(Jeo) means I, 는(neun) was added because "I" is the subject of the sentence while 있어요(isseoyo) means "to be" or "to exist". You read fine, all you need is to improve your vocabulary. Anyway 행운을 빌어요 (Good luck).

Just give me till October and I'll come back to converse with you in pure Korean, I'm putting efforts into this.

Thanks.

I started learning on my own but I have a tutor now. She's an 언니. Yes, I travelled to Korea for 3 months. Why can't you speak when you can read and write? Can you translate this to English..
저는 나이지리아 있어요.

I wouldn't have a teacher until next month, so I'm learning on my own for now.

Reading and writing is way easier than listening and speaking, I'll graduate to that level some day.

Ok! I guess you wrote " Jeoneun Nigeria Issoyo"

That should mean "are you from Nigeria?" tongue

I was definitely in Nigeria when I started learning.
Your romanization isn't correct. It should be "Annyeonghaseyo. Hangukmaleun areumdaweoyo" Meaning "Hello. Korean/Hangul is a beautiful language" Still learning though..

BTW do you speak??

wow! You're trying to tell me you learnt Korean on your own
BTW have you been to Korea?
No I don't speak, I can only read and write for now, listening and speaking will come later on.

I speak Korean. It started when I met some girls in Lagos. 안녕하세요. 한국말눈 아름다워요.

wow! Did you learn this while in Nigeria or during your travels to Kimchiland?

The romanization of what you wrote is:

"Annyeongseyo hankukmasnun aseumdawoyo"

Did I get it?

Maybe there is no such rule, but, he meant its better to be on the safer side of things.

I'll go with either Doha or Dubai as i've been advised earlier.

You only need transit visa if you will be staying more 24hrs or tend to get into the country.

@TLOTRS

I was in constant communication with the Admissions Department so when I mailed the admissions officer informing her that I had accepted the offer, she asked me how I will like the hard copy sent and also asked me for an address as well as postal code. I gave her my address and requested for the offer to be sent by courier. It was sent through DHL and I got it in less than a week.

I really disturbed that lady sha. Lol

Note: I was communicating with my departmental admissions officer.

I'm also in contact with my Faculty admission officer(the faculty decides for the science programs).

Although, I didn't pester him like you explained you did wink , I'll just wait for their response and hope for the best.

Everything just had me worried today.

Thank you .

Okay. I think I understand better now. Looks like you still have the rest of June & July, that seems like more than enough time for you to decide. You'll get it soon.

I hope so.
Thanks once again.

Oh I see.

It'll still be best you direct your correspondence to a person in particular, hence my suggestion of your Grad Asst...I'm pretty sure your Grad Asst. can not possibly be your Supervisor or is He?

And the Offer always has a timeline but this won't be a problem because when the Letter is dated is always put into consideration, and you don't have that yet.

Anyway, you still have sufficient time left, and I'm sure you'll be receiving it soon enough...nothing serious to worry about.

Good luck.

Alright ma, I'll keep trying, thanks.

@TLOTRS
Very good advice Kepner has given. Check for the right mail address for your program.
For instance, I haven't received the physical copy of the letter which my program sent yet. I had to contact them way back then and they said the electronic copy was fine enough.
Since you haven't even received the PDF copy of the letter, just keep your fingers crossed; hopefully, they will respond to your mail soonest.

Cheers.

The two emails are gradsciatuottawa.ca and gradinfo@uottawa.ca.

I've received responses from them before, I don't know why its taking forever this time around.

Yeah, I will keep waiting as advice.

Thanks to Kepner and Montrealer and you

Kepner:

First of all, relax, don't panic...make sure you're directing all emails to your Departmental Grad Asst. and any other contact you can find, he/she is your fastest bet of getting a quick response. Then, understand something, If you don't have a dated Offer letter yet...there's really no deadline to be worried about (asides visa app.), nothing is counting. Just concentrate on getting through to someone and receiving the Offer. Besides, UOttawa can be very flexible, the worst will be to defer till January (and that's not so bad).

Have you received any recommendation from Faculty of grad studies?? Because, I think this comes before the main letter itself. The "congratulations: admission offer" was probably forwarded from your Infoweb, I can't even remember receiving any email like this.

Lol! And yes, I received the Letter in good condition, It was sent by Post not Courier, it took about 6 weeks to get to me. This was after I had already received a soft copy of it.
I'm not panicking, its just that I have a scholarship somewhere else to accept by august, and applying outside Nigeria is something I'm not sure of how the trv application works. And I have to make a decision on the scholarship depending on what ottawa offers me.

I wouldn't want to disturb my supervisor with administrative problems, I'm a winter applicant and I guess he has students he is attending to now, I only mail him to discuss my research(once in a while).

My mails are always sent to gradinfoatuottawa.call and gradsci@uottawa.ca

Yes, the info web changed the same day I received the admission offer email.

Since you received your PDF copy in 6 weeks, let me keep waiting then, I've just waited for only 3 weeks.

I pray and hope the offer doesn't have a timeline for acceptance, I wouldn't want to lose that admission.

@Montrealer,

Thanks, but it wasn't attached to the e-mail.

Hi,

They usually send a PDF copy of the letter to your email before the hard copy arrives your physical address. The successful email you got, was it the one stating that you've been recommended by Faculty of Grad studies?...Just try to email your department to know what the delay is all about. Also check your spam, it may have dropped there.
Hi Kepner,

I received a mail of " congratulations: admission offer" on may 30th.

Today makes it 3 weeks ago, no mail from them and no email either, I've sent them an e.ail, I hope they reply soon.

Also, did they send the PDF letter by nipost or private courier? And did you actually receive it?

The efficiency of NIPOST send shivers down my spine.

I'm just scared because they give applicants a timeline to accept the admission, what if the timeline expires before I even have the chance of receiving the admission offer?

This is quite pathetic

I THINK course based program's don't require supervisors, are you sure you need one? Maybe you should read the program requirements again.

IMHO, thesis and research based programs are the ones that require supervisors.

please house ..i want to applied for post graduate for fall semester 2016 ..what and what do i need to send to the school ? ..
here is the list of what i intend to DHL to them
---- WAEC with checking card
---- HND transcript ( hihger national diploma )
-----with application fee ..

is that all i needed please or do i still need to add more document ? i will appreciate good and direct info ..God bless us all...

Your post graduate program is surely going to be in a certain course that's obviously explained on the school website of your choice.

Now there is a program requirement and other course details on that same website which obviously lists the necessary documents for your admission application.

Now how should we know this given that;

1. You haven't stated the university/college of your choice.
2. You haven't stated your interested program.

If it's not stated there , which is not possible, contact the school to ask.

Yes, if you have a valid student visa in another country, you can apply for any other country's visa. A research visa are for those on research program mostly in a research instititute and not same as student visa.

Alright, thanks boss.

I am a Nigerian, was holding a research visa. I am in Nigeria presently.

Okay, I don't know what the research visa entail, is it similar to a students visa?

Or in simple terms, if I'm on a student visa in another country , can I apply for a Canadian visa in the foreign country?

Sorry for the numerous mentions.

Thanks, I am going for a PhD program, I applied for visa when I was in India. It took less than 2 weeks. No Medicaid too.

You are a Nigerian in India or you're an India citizen?
If you're a Nigerian, what visa status do you hold?

I'm going to be in your situation soon , and I need to make the right plans.

Well said!

I think its a nationality thing. For example even some group of white people are seen as immigrants too in the western world (e.g non western Europeans like Polish, Bulgaria, Ukraine etc), its apparent in the UK and `ireland, to name a few. If youre are from a 1st world country, its very easy to escape the ''immigrant'' label.

There have never be a situation of mass immigration of westerners to Africa (or to a 3rd world country) and for the past 60 years, its has always been a diametrical opposite quotidian event. An American for example can easily be perceived as an Expat because to most, its very preposterous to immigrate to Africa.

In the western world, the label of the word ''immigrant'' usually mean migrating for a better life and most of the non western migrant fit into this category, thats just the underlying truth. The handful (if not majority) of the Western workers in Nigeria are Expats, not immgrants. They are not here to look for a job, descend so low to jobs most natives will not like to do, thats the difference, although I recognise that not all Africans fit into the category of an immigrant.

I believe you're trying relate your post with the strength of an immigrant's home country economy.
You are right, an immigrant from USA or Germany is called expat while an immigrant from a developing country is called "immigrant".
This is really bad, I may be from a developing country and have a greater skill set than someone from a developed country.
It is still the same injustice I am talking about, I believe the world should be an equal place and offer equal opportunities for all.

This is a very nice article. Its high time we Africans especially put the white supremacist in their right position. If I am an immigrant in their own country, they have to be immigrants in mine too, not expats.
What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Every citizen of the world must be treated with equality.
