Education / Re: Please Nairalanders I Use To Forget What I Read Easily What Can I Do by tollar90(m): 4:12pm On Mar 15, 2021 |
This is coming late, but I just want to say my own SQ3R Survey: Pick chapter, dont read yet, just get farmiliar with all the headings, things in bold, the pictures, anything that the author clearly considers important. This will serve as the structure of the chapter. Like a shelf, to later insert materials into. Question: If author provide questions, look at them. They signify the concepts the author values more than others. If the author doesn't provide questions after the chapter THEN, while you read a page think like the examiner and make up exam questions eg. 3 per page. Read: Well, now read. Hopefully, by properly surveying and questioning, you will have demystified the material, making it semi-solid and easy to digest. Recite: To test your understanding on a concept, ask the question, look away from the book (or close book) and recite the answer offhead (dont decieve yourself by looking a the answer first. Review: This part is very important. If you watch too much film about Superbrain genius photographic memory people (like KyleXY, Sherlock Holmes, etc), you may want to forget that all that is fiction and we are only humans, with human memory. If we dont review information properly after learning, our brains just labels it garbage and deletes it. Luckily there is one resource that has saved lives of many students when it comes to reveiwing; that is flashcards. Put your questions/answers in a computer-based flashcard system called Anki. Anki will ensure you dont forget what you learned (GUARANTEED). But it is not magic, you will perform better if you are prompt in giving anki the question right after it is treated in class, and studied by you, so that you have time for multiple review before the exam. In a nutshell, it is not for cramming 3 days before the exam, but for making you see a question and pass(or fail/correct/review) it enough times before the exams. Also go to youtube to get advice on making good anki flashcards, because you can make bad flashcards with ambiguous questions, long answers, etc. You can tell I wrote this post majorly to inform those that dont yet know about Anki . Anki is the real deal. |
