Politics / BREAKING: IPN Rejects APC Zoning Arrangement, Seeks Equitable Deal For Southeast by tometo: 1:01pm On Mar 10, 2022
The Indigenous People of Nigeria, IPN, has rejected the zoning arrangement as published by All Progressive Congress, APC.

IPN made its position known in Abuja during its 3rd Press Conference on State of the Nation.

Text of the statement reads;

10th March, 2022

PRESS CONFERENCE ON STATE OF THE NATION:

Gentlemen of the Press, you may recall that penultimate to the National Convention of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the Indigenous People of Nigeria, IPN, lauded the Party for putting up a zoning arrangement suitable for a multi-ethnic society like ours.

We also recall writing an open letter to APC stressing the need to recognise and adopt a zoning arrangement that is favorable and acceptable to Nigeria.

IPN therefore takes deeper look into the zoning arrangement under the ruling All Progressive Congress with the following observations.

1. Going by the zoning arrangement made public by the APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, H.E Sani Bello, the position of National Chairman is zoned to the North Central, Deputy Chairman North, to the Northwest, Deputy Chairman South to South East, and National Secretary to South West.

2. We observe that this zoning arrangement of political positions under the ruling APC is unjust to a section of the country, specifically, the Southeast. We view it disheartening that the APC is toying with the unity and oneness of Nigeria.

3. The view earlier expressed by APC was that the North and South swerved positions , such that all positions initially held by the North automatically go to the South and vice versa.

4. However, it is apparent that while the South West held the first chairmanship position of the party, Vice President and Speakership positions, and the North East Secretary and Senate President, members of the party from the South East are treated with disdain, giving the impression that they do not belong to the party.

Indeed, the manifold imbalance clearly manifest that the APC does not care about Nigeria's unity, and one dares say that this move is very dangerous and portends danger to Nigeria's corporate existence.

Needless to say that this is an unjust treatment so provocative and vindictive that immediate redress is required. Failure on the part of APC to correct the wrong treatment amounts to deepening the South East alienation and further threatening the corporate existence of Nigeria.

IPN is not unaware that Nigeria, under the watch of APC, has been in terrible disarray; and the Party cannot pretend to show comfort in this sad state by not doing anything to unite the people of Nigeria.

We the Indigenous People therefore frown seriously against this, and urge the party to take necessary steps towards the correction before the Convention.

IPN calls on well meaning Nigerians, particularly, leaders of Southeast in APC, to reject in its entirety the proposed zoning formular as made by the Acting Caretaker Chairman, and immediately commence engagement to rectify it so as to bring sense of belonging to Nigerians from the Southeast.

The insecurity, uprising, agitations and call for secession from the Southeast is clearly due to the injustice meted against the people of the zone.

We honestly, call on the National leadership and stakeholders of Southeast to rescind their decision and zone the position of National Secretary to the Southeast, just as PDP has done.

We also expect that the party will go further to ensure that the next presidential candidate of the APC should come from the Southeast in the Spirit of Justice, equity and fairness.

Our position can be excused by the assumption that it will amount to an overburden for a South East that has the zoning of presidency to still share equally with other zones. Otherwise our position is cemented by a recent statement credited to our elder statesman, the former President Olusegun Obasanjo that unless due care is taken to address all agitations, Nigeria may cease to exist beyond 2023.

May we, on a final note, reemphasize that IPN is neither a political association of the PDP nor APC, nor any of the political parties. We consider it a duty to ensure that political parties, especially the leading parties, do the right thing at all times for the good of Nigeria and Nigerians.

Signed:
Mazi Nnamdi Iroegbu

Convener: Indigenous People of Nigeria (IPN)

The competition opens on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, and closes at 11:59pm on Wednesday, March 30, 2022.

Young Nigerians between 18 and 35 years are eligible to participate. Two individuals from each Local Government Area across Nigeria will each win the sum of N100, 000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) for their innovative ideas on how to harness the unique resources and skills of the people of their LGAs.

1. All Nigerians between the ages of 18 – 35 years are welcome to apply. Women and persons-with-disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

7. Only residents or indigenes of a particular Local Government Area are allowed to submit Proposals for that Local Government Area.

2. THE CLASSROOM
This year the March 8th Initiative will partner with Codextel Limited, an Edutech company to deploy tailor-made learning solutions focused on basic education for the Nigerian child, by employing one of their revolutionary learning products, ‘The Codex Learning Solution.’ It is a curriculum-based, animated tutorial video that provides for the Nigerian child a pool of simplified learning resources. Codextel Limited has currently developed over 500 educational videos across the major subjects – Mathematics, English, Basic Science, and Civic Education.

MAKARANTA
Makaranta is the Hausa expression of Classroom. To make learning accessible to all children across the North, the videos will be broadcast on Terrestrial TV Stations that have wide coverage in the North. Makaranta aims to provide learning opportunities for children in underprivileged communities across Nigeria with a special focus on out-of-school children in Northern Nigeria.

A’Ibom 2023: Pastor Eno, Gov. Emmanuel’s Preferred Successor, Sweeps Endorsements Ahead of Party Primary

It is a smooth sail for the Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel preferred successor, Pastor Umo Eno, as he continues to sweep endorsements from critical stakeholders in the state ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election.

The flurry of endorsements is coming on the heels of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s announcement of Pastor Eno, the States Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, as his preferred successor, a declaration that stakeholders insist was a master stroke that had saved the state the stress and distraction of the internal wrangling associated with party primaries contestation for the governorship seat.

Already the Akwa-Ibom State Executive Council had on February 15, 2022, unanimously endorsed Eno as Governor Emmanuel’s successor, followed by the entire 26 members of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, which on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, also unanimously adopted Eno as the candidate of the PDP that will be elected as the next Governor of the State.

The coast became clearer for Eno ahead of PDP governorship primaries, as statutory delegates, particularly those from Ikot-Ekpene, the political hub of the state have also adopted him. That was followed by his unanimous endorsement by delegates from Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika at a mega meeting in Abak on February 20, 2022.

Gaining more ground ahead of other governorship aspirants in the state, Pastor Eno has also secured the endorsements of professionals, businessmen circles as well as student community in Akwa Ibom State.

Professionals and businessmen under the aegis of Professionals for Development in Akwa Ibom rose from its strategy meeting on Monday February 7, 2022 in Abuja and announced their support for Eno.

National Coordinator of the group, Engr. Ufot Akan Umoren, described the choice of Eno as “a reflection of the shared expectation of the people in their quest to continue the sustainable peace and development in the state.”

Adopting Eno, the student community in Akwa Ibom, on February 26, 2022 declared him the sole candidates of the students for the governorship election in the state.

The National Association of Nigerians Students (NANS) Zone B adopted Pastor Eno via a motion by its Public Relations Officer, Comrade Utibe Ekanem and seconded by the Student Union Government President, University of Uyo, Comrade Wisdom Emmanuel and resolved to mobilize student structures to ensure his victory at the polls.

Already, religious bodies in the state are also endorsing Pastor Eno as preferred candidate in the election. On Tuesday February 22, 2022, the Akwa Ibom State Territory of the Apostolic Church, Nigeria declared its total support for Pastor Eno’s aspiration.

The Chairman of the Territory, Apostle E. I. Uye who declared the position of the church congratulated Governor Emmanuel for his decision which noted was in line with the “will of God for the state”.

Meanwhile the Speaker of the the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey as well as a former Deputy Governor of the State and political leader of Oron nation, Chief Etim Okpoyo, among other prominent leaders in the state have also endorsed Pastor Eno.

Education / Sylvester Oromoni: Father Admits Home Treatment Of Sylvester To Court. by tometo: 10:10am On Feb 15, 2022
SYLVESTER OROMONI: Father admits home treatment of Sylvester to Court.

The father of late Sylvester Oromoni Junior has admitted to the Lagos Coroner’s Court that the deceased, his son Sylvester Jnr. was treated at home and not at the hospital.

The father, Sylvester Oromoni Sr., who was giving his evidence as a witness revealed this during questioning in the ongoing coroner inquest to determine the cause of death of his son, 11 year-old late Sylvester Oromoni Junior.

In his cross examination by Mr. Godwin Omoaka, the counsel representing one of the students alleged to have been responsible for Sylvester’s death, the witness told the coroner’s court that his son was treated at home after the family doctor told him that there was no private ward or room available at his hospital.

"He was taken to the hospital and the doctor said there was no private ward and he was taken back to the house. Later he was taken to St Leo Diagnosis for x-ray and scan.” Mr. Oromoni stated. When questioned further about the lack of evidence of a beating on the deceased, Mr. Oromoni responded that he would not be surprised as he noted that it depended on when the beating occurred. He said the beating did not occur on November 21, 2021. He further told the court that one of the students stated that Sylvester got injured on November 14, 2021.

Mr. Oromoni further confirmed to the court that he granted interviews to various media houses. Mr. Omoaka prayed the court to order and asked that the four video clips of Mr. Oromoni’s interviews be watched in the courtroom.

The counsel representing Dowen College, Mr. Tony Kpokpo however told the court that the video clips of Mr. Oromoni’s interviews are already before the court and went on to state that even though the coroner was not bound by the rules of evidence, a cross examiner is not ordinarily bound to frontload a document intended to be used to contradict a witness. By the basic rules of fairness, it was proper that the video be accepted especially, when it would help throw light in the darkness and unveil the fact as they are and not as they are contrived to be.

Mr. Andrew Efole, the Oromoni family lawyer responded that, "the submission of Mr. Kpokpo was not whether the video should be admitted or not.” He clarified that the issue was to playing the video and served them the clips.

Mr. Akin George, the lawyer representing Lagos State had earlier requested that the video of the interview be played in the court to throw light on the ongoing inquest.

Upon being led further in evidence, Mr. Oromoni told court that after his son passed on from the clinic, he recalled the people that wanted to go and bury the boy and asked that the body be brought back to him.

"The corpse was brought back home. He was brought to the front of my gate and the police came, they took some photographs of the deceased and also did a video the body."

When he was confronted with the fact that the family doctor told the court that no evidence of blunt force trauma was found on the deceased, the witness responded that he would be surprised. The coroner Magistrate on that note went ahead and adjourned further hearing to February 15, 2022

Politics / TheEmefieleDisaster: Nigerians Call Out Emefiele On Twitter by tometo: 8:37pm On Feb 11, 2022
Nigerians Drag CBN Governor, Emefiele On Twitter With #TheEmefieleDisaster

The rumored plans of the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, to stage a surprising run for the Presidency became a national trending topic on Thursday as Nigerians from across the country expressed their dissatisfaction over the move – alongside Mr. Emefiele’s overall tenure as CBN Chief – using a scathing hashtag, #TheEmefieleDisaster.

Users of the platform who joined in the conversation accused the CBN Governor of executing a partisan agenda at the CBN aimed at retaining the support of high-placed members of the ruling party, the APC, who are keen on helping him succeed President Buhari as the country’s next leader in 2023.

They alleged that despite supervising Nigeria’s worst economic and financial performance in decades, including a spiraling foreign exchange crisis, he has remained untouchable due to his willingness to open the country’s vault to this exclusive class within the APC who are backing him for the Presidency.

Others noted how Emefiele has concerned himself with partisan activities unrelated to his official mandate as the CBN Governor, asserting that the deliberate inflation of his roles and duties constitutes evidence of his reign of impunity and abuse of office.

“Emefiele expanded his impunity by making an unannounced courtesy call to the camp of the Nigerian Super Eagles all the way in Cameroon; a visit that has left Nigerians wondering non-stop as to its relevance to his role as the CBN Governor,” one of the tweets read.

Rumors of Godwin Emefiele considering a likely run in 2023 has gathered steam in the past few weeks with multiple inside Villa sources affirming that the banker has emerged as the most preferred candidate of certain APC figures who consider his Presidency the best-case scenario.

The primary consideration, according to the sources, is that it allows them to honor the growing call for a power shift to the Southern region of the country without handing over the reins of the country’s economy which Emefiele has, allegedly, surrendered to them.

Politics / 2023: Akwa Ibom Professionals Back Gov. Udom Emmanuel On Choice Of Successor by tometo: 10:36am On Feb 08, 2022
Professionals and businessmen from Akwa-Ibom State have commended the State Governor, Udom Emmanuel for his "bold and courageous step" in announcing the State Commissioner for Land and Water Resources, Pastor Uno Eno, as his preferred successor ahead of the 2023 governorship election in the state.

The group, under the aegis of Professionals For Development in Akwa Ibom, in an interaction with newsmen in Abuja after its meeting on Monday, described the choice of Pastor Eno by Governor Emmanuel as “a reflection of the shared expectation of the people in their quest to continue the sustainable peace and development in the State.”

The group revealed that contrary to speculations, the choice of Pastor Eno is a product of very wide consultation with critical stakeholders across the State, both within and outside of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

National Coordinator of the group, Engr. Ufot Akan Umoren, noted that Governor Udom Emmanuel has saved Akwa Ibom the stress of unnecessary partisan contestations which would have caused the state huge financial and social losses adding that the choice of Pastor Eno is the right step to ensure the consolidation and continuation of the laudable achievements of the governor.

“After an extensive meeting today, we are unanimous in commending Governor Udom Emmanuel for the choice of Pastor Eno as his preferred successor. It is a step in the right direction and reflects the quest of the people for a governor that will walk in the footprints of Governor Emmanuel and continue in providing the peace, stability and development we enjoy under him today.

“Contrary to speculations in some quarters, the choice of Pastor Eno is a product of very extensive consultations across the State. Governor Udom Emmanuel has helped the PDP to get it right again on the candidate for the 2023 governorship election because with Pastor Eno, the election will be a straight victory for the PDP and the people of Akwa Ibom State.

“We commend Governor Emmanuel because he has saved Akwa-Ibom from the stress of unnecessary political contestations which would have caused our state huge financial and social losses” Umoren said.

Also speaking, the General Secretary of the group, Dr. Mrs. Emem Akpan, said that with Pastor Eno as Governor Emmanuel’s successor, the continued development and stability of Akwa Ibom State are guaranteed.

She stressed that with Pastor Eno’s conduct as Commissioner for Land and Water Resources, there is no doubt he will continue on the path of prudent management of resources, transparency and accountability for which Governor Udom Emmanuel is known.

“Govenor Udom Emmanuel is a very meticulous administrator, who has led the state to higher heights and his choice of Pastor Eno is a further reflection of his love and commitment to the state.

The group, which comprises of professionals from all walks of life, urged other governorship hopefuls in the PDP to jettison their personal interests and support Pastor Eno for the general good of the state.

Politics / Confirmation Of APC’s Rhoda Gumus As INEC Commissioner, A Democratic “Coup”- PDP by tometo: 1:24pm On Feb 07, 2022
February 7, 2022

Press Statement

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vehemently rejects the confirmation of a card-carrying member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Rhoda Gumus, as a National Commissioner (South South) in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) despite widespread outcry by Nigerians

The PDP describes Prof. Gumus’ confirmation as INEC National Commissioner by the APC-led Senate leadership as a “coup” against Democracy and an open invitation to serious political crisis that can derail our hard-earned democracy and lead to breakdown of law and order if not immediately reversed.

In confirming Prof. Gumus, the APC-led Senate leadership has exposed itself as anti-people and completely insensitive to the aspiration of Nigerians for credible and transparent elections in 2023.

The action of the APC-led Senate is highly provocative and incendiary because it is in violation of Paragraph 14 (2)(a) of the 3rd Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), which provides that “a member of the Commission shall be non-partisan and a person of unquestionable integrity”.

Such violent assault on the Constitution and our electoral process by the APC cannot be allowed to stand.

The media space is awash with reports of Prof. Gumus as a member of the APC in Bayelsa State with APC Registration Form No: BAY/YEN/08/58315 and reportedly as number 27 in her APC Ward Register.

In nominating and confirming an APC card-carrying member into INEC, President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC-led Senate leadership have recklessly violated the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) which they swore to uphold and defend.

This action is designed to corrupt and compromise the electoral Commission and pave way for the APC to rig the 2023 general elections.

Nigerians can recall how President Buhari had earlier sought to impose his aide and card-carrying member of the APC, Lauretta Onochie as INEC Commissioner but was stiffly resisted by Nigerians.

The APC which thrives in impunity has again nominated and confirmed Prof. Gumus, another APC card-carrying member as National Commissioner in INEC in flagrant violation of the Constitution and total disregard for the Nigerian people.

Prof. Gumus must not be allowed to be used to pollute INEC. Her mission is already exposed and our Party is ready to mobilize our members and all patriotic Nigerians across the country by taking legitimate actions to protect the integrity of the electoral body.

Our Party therefore issues a stern caution to Prof. Gumus to, in the interest of peace, steer clear of INEC as there is no way she can function in that office as a card-carrying member of the APC.

Democracy is about transparency of elections. Nigerians cannot believe in the integrity of the process with Prof. Gumus in INEC. Her entry and continuing stay in INEC will be toxic and taint the Commission with bias and manipulations ahead of the 2023 elections since her appointment and confirmation is unconstitutional.

The PDP calls on President Buhari to immediately withdraw the appointment of Prof. Gumus as INEC National Commissioner in line with his oath of office to uphold and defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This will assure Nigerians that Mr. President is committed to free, fair, transparent and credible elections in 2023.

The PDP salutes and commends the efforts of the Civil Society which continues to remain relentless in the fight for credible electoral process from appointment of officers of INEC, processes of election as well as the collation and declaration of election results.

Our Party urges the Civil Society and all well-meaning Nigerians to continue to insist that appointments into INEC must be transparent and in line with the provisions of the Constitution and other relevant laws.

Group Condemns Bisi Kolawole's Derogatory Comments On Party Leadership

The most prominent group within People's Democratic Party, PDP in Ekiti State, popularly known as "PDP Young Leader" has condemned the recent un-cultured vituperation of Hon. Bisi Kolawole on leaders and members of the party.

It is of no news to the world that, on 26th of January 2022, a kangaroo election was held and masterminded by the Almighty Oshoko of which this metamorphosed to the emergence of Hon Bisi Kolawole as PDP's candidate in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the State.

According to Engr. Olusola Oluwasimirin the group convener, the governor in embryo, out of wisdom and inability to combine words publicly, in collaboration with the overwhelming joy of benefiting from the jiggery-pokery election, has paraded himself as a worthless leader who can not manage his home (PDP), but on the race to manage Ekiti state, and this will be a catastrophic metaphysical aberration on our state popularly known for fountain of knowledge and land of honor.

In his over-joyous attitude that engraved his intellectual opulence, he vomited an irreversible word of deceit in praising his cohort Engr Agbola Alaba as the brain box repositioning group while others are carcass. This is a wrong signal to the entire People's Democratic Party members and Ekiti State at large about their governor to be as we see him as man on Aleko, who could not control his urge due to the effect of the drug.

Leadership is the capacity and the will to rally men and women to a common purpose and the character which inspires confidence but the leadership style of Hon Bisi Kolawole is like a chackles that will erode the growth of the party in no distance time, we therefore as matter of urgency call on him to retrace his step in other not to fall in the pit of political extinction.

Kogi Pension/ Gratuity; Ongoing Disparity Between Central and Kogi East Unhealthy, Divisive- Igala Vanguard

The ongoing disparity in payments of retired civil servants in Kogi state of their pension and gratuity between beneficiaries from Kogi central and kogi east is against the law,Igala Socio Cultural group Igala Vanguard said.

In a statement signed by Engr Lawrence Akpa revealed that an investigation launched by Igala Vanguard allegedly confirmed that retired civil servants from kogi Central and of Ebira extraction gets preferential treatment against their counterpart from kogi east interms of payment in monetary.

it was further revealed that payment of gratuity for Kogi easterners not minding the rank stands at N100,000, while their counterparts from kogi Central gets a lump sum of between N1Million to N5Million as directed by the state government.

This is also applicable to payments of pension to beneficiaries,as people from kogi Central ,the governor's extraction usually get maximum attention and huge payments compared to the people from kogi east.

This developement is saddening and had being in practice in the last six years in kogi state.

Efforts to confirm the unfortunate development fell on deaf ears, as many worker's confronted in the state pension board confirm it was an instructions from above, with fear of losing their jobs.

The state chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress NLC and Nigerian Union of Pensioners NUP in Kogi state could not be reached ,as at the time of filing this report.

Some pensioners who had the opportunity of expressing their feelings confirmed that their friends in Kogi central have subjected them to a laughing stock, saying with the Governor of Kogi state from the central, they have edge in payments of pension and gratuity ahead of people of Kogi east.

It is unheard of,the ongoing disparity in pension payments in any part of the country, except in Kogi state at the instance of the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
