Family / How Can I Help My Child Succeed In School? by Tomvad: 11:54pm On Oct 08, 2019
Fine, your kids have successfully resumed, you’ve gotten them what they needed for resumption, what a relive that is! But is that all? No! Honestly, your kids have teachers, but who is their first teacher? It’s you! Think of your kids as a beautiful edifice that needs to be constructed to resist wind, fire, and other negative impacts that could wreak havoc on the existence of the building.

Then, think of yourself as the client – the owner of the building. Will you give careful consideration to how the foundation is laid? Definitely! After the foundation, will you relax and never bother about how solid what is later erected on the foundation would be? Indeed, as an intelligent client, you will ensure that the foundation is well built, and further construction to complete the work will be thoroughly monitored.

In like manner, in ensuring that your child does better at school, you have the sole responsibility to lay a solid foundation, and further knowledge that he or she receives – from teachers and other people – must be thoroughly checked and evaluated. But how best can it be done? I have outlined 11 simple and easy ways to help you answer the question: “how you can I help my child succeed in school?” Assuredly, if you apply all these, you will earn good rewards eventually!

11 Ways to Help Your Child Succeed in School

1. Speak With Your Child’s Teacher. If you’ve read on tips on resumption, you will recall that meeting your child’s teacher was highlighted as part of what a parent can do to assist his or her wards in resuming well. This point also makes up the first thing a parent can do to help his or her child. So, tread this part to apply this first tips.

How to do it:

Tell the teacher that you want to help your child
Ask the teacher to contact you if there is a problem
Ask him to inform you of ways you can assist your child at home and your boundary in helping him
Humbly request that he or she monitors the kind of company your child keeps.
Know essential personnel in the school

Bonus Tips: If he has to monitor your child, he needs to be tactful. After the end of each term, you might want to offer him a tip; that will be a pleasant thing to do.

2. Attend Parent-teacher Conference/Meeting: When I was a teacher, it amazes me that some parents do not care about this part. But when a minute issue – increase in fee or other things spring up- they head straight to the school, ready to make inquiries. It used to dawn on most parents when the director would tell them, “it’s been discussed at the meeting, and parents who were present all agreed; hence, the school stamped it.” I know it’s not always easy, but these tips will assist you

How to do it:

When you get to know that a conference or meeting will be coming up, be determined to attend
Set a reminder and ask your child to remind you
Write down the list of things you will love to talk about.
Postpone whatever you want to do so you can have the privilege to attend
If you wouldn’t be able to make the meeting, find someone to stand for you or ask the person to record whatever is being said

Bonus Tip: If you record some parts, do not distribute it, limit it to your use.

3. Apply For Special Session. This is another amazing tip to answer the question: “how can I help my child succeed in school?” In some schools, they make extra classes compulsory, while in some, it is based on parents’ needs. If your child goes to one of the schools where additional classes are not mandatory, then try these tips

How to do it

Demand from your child’s teacher if your ward needs extra classes
Ask to know if he can take charge on weekends. If he can’t, ask if he can refer someone.

Bonus Tips: Don’t overburden your kids with school activities – reading and assignments. Allow them to play. The time they will spend on extra classes on Saturdays should be between 3-4 hours.

4. Help With Homework. Each day, homework will be given to students. Show your care about that. When we were small, after returning from school, our mum will ask for our homework and asks us to attend to them. After that, we will resume our regular duty. But these aren’t all.

What to do

Be there to watch him or her handle assignments.
Buy the necessary materials to ease the process
Monitor him at least 3-4 times in a week.
Listen carefully when your kids ask questions.
Don’t do the assignment for your kids; only put him through.
If you figured out that you are unable to guide her, seek another person’s help.
Praise your child’s effort
Help him to be a good organizer

Bonus Tip: Be sure that the person you are hiring is of the same gender as your child.

Family / Re: My Sister Is On The Verge Of Making The Worst Mistake Of Her Life by Tomvad: 7:10am On Sep 08, 2019
JeffreyJames:
I wonder who came up with the idea that being married means "settling down" . What an irony lol

OP when condition don dey enter to getting married, e get as e be o. Is the guy marrying her for the sole purpose of bearing children or he is marrying her because he loves her?

As for me that "take in" before getting married is HorseSh*t. I believe the guy knows how desperate your sister is to "settle down" so he is taking advantage. She should not give in. Make small respect still remain.

Jeffrey? Wow! Quite a long time! How about lanicky, cherryjee, and others?

Phones / 8 Must-read Upcoming Smartphones Features In 2020 by Tomvad: 7:58am On Sep 06, 2019
If there are any upcoming smartphones features you’d desire, I’m pretty sure that battery life, camera features, and processors are anticipated specifications. But here is a shocker: These are just the basics! Basics? Yes!

When talking about improvements and smartphones innovations, we are talking of top-class enhancement; features that were once believed to be found in sci-fi movies, and at times, in our imaginations. You’d agree with me that smartphones have become essential commodities, and with full assurance, by 2020, new phones coming out will have attained a high level of potential.

At this point, I can peer into your curiosity and enthusiasm to start reading the list of mobile phones of the future. But trust me, after reading this, you’d have no doubt agreeing that technology has given smartphones an exponential rise and has created a smooth ride for future-amazing productive devices. Below are eight excellent upcoming smartphones features in 2020.

Note: This article explains terms that you might not be familiar with; it highlights the benefits and why we can await each upcoming smartphones feature

1. Survive Drops. An older man I sometimes had a chat with bitterly complained about how often he sees people walking around with a broken smartphone. Just like him, you definitely wouldn’t admire a broken screen, but may I ask you, can your smartphone go a month without falling? If you answer no, you have higher chances of having a broken screen! It isn’t wrong to say that everyone faces that challenge, but smartphones makers understand this and want to halt it.

Benefits: Either your phone falls inside water or land, you can be sure of it coming out unharmed.

Can it Happen? Presently, some smartphones feature Corning Gorilla Glass 6, which lets phones survive an average of 15 drops from a distance of 1-meter, even though it lands on a rough surface. These are featured on Samsung Galaxy S10, Xiaomi Mi 9, Sony Xperia 1, LG G8 ThinQ, and others. And the good news is that Corning, which is the leading manufacturer of chemically strengthened glass, and several other makers have been working on new versions of protecting layers on upcoming smartphones which will offer more protection than Glass 6.

2. New Battery technology: You picked your phone, plugged it, and just less than 15 minutes, it’s fully charged. Unbelievable? That’s what we will get with graphene battery technology. Today, modern smartphones are powered by standard lithium-ion batteries, that support fast-charging, but they are no match with the new battery technology that will come in 2020.

Benefits: Within minutes, you can charge your phone. It is an ideal material for fast charge.

Can it Happen? In 2017, Samsung announced that the development of its graphene battery is underway. And by 2020, or at most, 2021, it will come with new upcoming smartphones.

3. 5G Connectivity: Will you be thrilled to download a two-hour movie in just less than 5 seconds? Yes, that the speed 5G connectivity promises. 5G connectivity tops out at 10gigabits per seconds. And evidently, that shows that it is a hundred times faster than the present 4G connectivity.

Benefits: Incredible Speed, faster load times, and enhanced responsiveness. With 1ms latency loading webpages would be like swiping through your gallery.

Can it Happen? North Americans, for examples, have already seen smaller iterations of 5G networks pop up, but by 2020, major areas will start the application. An estimate says that by the year 2023, 32% of North American mobile connections will be operating on a 5G network.

4. Holographic Display. Wonder what holographic display is? It is a type of display where light diffraction is utilized to create a virtual 3D image of an object.

Simplified Definition: Your phone’s screen will project 3D objects that you will be able to view from varying angles based on your physical positions.

An Example: A mapping application on your smartphone could resemble a little model of a city with buildings projecting out of your screen. Then, you’d be able to interact with the projected object above the display via hover gestures.

Benefits: You will enjoy interactive gaming, 3D sound for movie viewing, holographic calls, and mixed reality. What a wonder!

Can it Happen? The world’s first holographic smartphone, hydrogen one, was released last year by RED, a cinema camera maker. Unfortunately, it failed, even with its explanation by Red, Mashable explains that Red’s comment was stupid! Nevertheless, we can still expect a come back from Red, or we see more makers make this one of their upcoming smartphone features

5. Bezel-Less Display. A bezel is defined as a part of the frame on a smartphone.

Simplified Definition: Look at your phone, that area, either plastic or metal on the front that isn’t the screen is the bezel. Understood? However, when you hear Bezel-Less, it usually refers to less bezel, yet, in the future, we will come to see full bezel-display which will become an industry standard.

Benefits: It increases screen size without increasing the overall size of the device.

Can it Happen? For now, we’ve seen smartphones like Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, Xiaomi Mi 8, Huawei Honor 10, and several other phones with a bezel-less display. They are 100% screen – to- body ratio, and bezel-less. Assuredly, manufacturers are working towards making new phones coming out, to meet the industry standard of bezel-less display.

6. Flexible Phones. What if you can strap your phone to your hand like a wristwatch, that will be amazing, not so? Evidently! Phone manufacturers know how thrilling this will be. As a result, it makes up one of the futures of upcoming smartphones in 2020.

Benefits: Flexible phones are more resistant to shattering because they can bend to absorb impact before getting back to their original shape. It can fit better right inside your pocket. It is wearable like a wristwatch. And it will give more screen space exactly like tablets.

Can it Happen? For example, Samsung is working on a next flagship smartphone that comes designed with a flexible screen, called Samsung Galaxy flex 2020, and it is set to be released as one of their upcoming smartphones in 2020. Nokia presently is working on their concept device, and they aim at offering users the ability to wear their phones like a wristwatch or unfold like typical smartphones

7. Security Features. Today, smartphones features have numerous security features, which entails fingerprint sensors and Irish scanner. But don’t you want tougher and advanced security features that will guarantee you more confident and comfort? More robust security features to be expected include style of gait, voice tone, and typing speed.

Benefits: It will eliminate the use of a password and pin.

Can it Happen? Many phone manufacturers like Samsung, Apple iPhone, Huawei, and Xiaomi, and other leading phone brands are already working on enhancing their phone’s security features come 2020.

8. Recommendation For App. Have no idea what this is, then here we go! This is merely incorporating AI to understand your Mood and open up an App for you.

Example: During bedtime, it can recognize your Mood and open up a music app and play for you.

Benefits: It aids and simplifies our lifestyle. It offers more precision and accuracy.

Can it Happen? Already, we have Siri, Cortana, and Google now, dominating our home screen, and what can we only expect? More advanced feature!

Conclusion

Don’t you think having these features present in every new smartphone will be fantastic? Nevertheless, it is very likely that you’d think: “upcoming smartphones in 2020 with these features will be expensive.”

Well, if that’s what you think, I agree with you. But one thing is sure, if more manufacturers are joining the train, prices of these smartphones will become competitive.

Phones / Without Internet: Check These 10 Amazing Things You Can Do by Tomvad: 6:24pm On Sep 04, 2019
I’ve been without Internet, you’ve been there too – I don’t see you denying this. Undoubtedly, you may have had WiFi cuts out, network providers – though subject to your country of residence, may occasionally trip off. If you are planning a long trip – on a plane, on a train, or by bus, you obviously wouldn’t have access to the Internet all through the journey. In some developing countries, residents have to manage data volume. Yes! If you can relate with any of these, you may have thought about things to do without Internet.

Honestly, moments without Internet can be annoying, and as some say: It’s lifeless! In a recent nationwide household survey by Jennifer Highland, the research revealed that 68.9% are regular users of the Internet, and 1 out of 8 (13.7%) respondents have difficulty staying off the Internet for days. Therefore, how could these folks spend their time wisely without the Internet? That’s what this article “10 amazing things to do without Internet” will accomplish.

So, what do you stand to gain from the points that will be highlighted? Some points will be:

Fun
Build your intellect
Enhance Your Skills
Show to friends and family that you genuinely care
Manage Your Time Wisely
Let’s start our trip now – with or without the Internet!

1. Compose a Few Thank-You Notes. Either we acknowledge it or not; we get help from friends, neighbors, classmates, workers, and in fact, members of our family. Little help might really get no attention, perhaps due to busy schedule and other things. Therefore, using moments without Internet to send thank you notes will be highly appreciated.

Hints:

Think about little things you’ve been helped with and write them down.

Put down the names of those who did them, at least five for a start.

Compose a different text message and send.

2. Interact With People. This interesting point makes up part of things you can do without Internet. Isn’t this an appealing concept?! A strong interpersonal relationship can enhance your productivity and make you stay happier. Of course, this point is dependent on where the Internet goes off. So let’s see how that can be done.

Hints:

If it goes out at work, spend quality time with your co-worker.

If it goes out on an airplane, on a bus, or on the train, try to strike a conversation with a stranger sitting right next to you.

If it happens at home, pick up your phone and call a friend you’ve long spoken with.

Call your friends and families, including your parents.

3. Clean Your House. Nobody likes a dirty environment; we all want our room, toilet, and kitchen to always glitter. Sadly, we don’t often measure up to that may be due to procrastination or busy schedule. Since this makes up things you can do without Internet, how can you do it?

Hints:

Take a good look at your house.

Note places you hardly clean, clean them one after the other.

Tidy up your room, bedroom, and lounge.

Dust your electronic gadgets.

Do any other things related to cleaning.

4. Read Books. Recently a Quora user asked a question of how did Elon Musk Learn so Much? A user explains what Elon himself said. Elon said you could learn a lot when you invest time in reading books and interacting with others. And that is one of the reasons why he is intelligent. What can you learn from this, reading books as one of the things to do without Internet is a great way to boost your intellect.

Hints:

Think of any book, hard or soft copy you have, and you haven’t read, start to read.

If you don’t have, meet a friend or a neighbor who has and ask that they send to you.

Do you recently purchase or collect a book from a friend, spend your time reading that

5. Sleep or Relax. Taking a break off the screen and giving yourself quality sleep is indeed one of the fantastic things to do without Internet. A lot of people nag about fatigue. So, if you sleep or relax, especially in the evening, when the Internet cut off happens, you will wake up fresh.

Hints:

If you discovered that it’s been a long time you clutched on a quality sleep, then sleep.

If you stay alone, keep your home calm and sleep.

Take a bath, most times it speeds up how soon you sleep.

Are you finding it hard to rest, relax and write down a few notes (you can even update your to-do-list).

6. Create Time to Meditate. Each time you meditate, what you set to accomplish is injecting or infusing long-lasting benefit into your life. Creating time to meditate lowers your stress level, we get to understand our pain, we connect better and enhance how we focus. No wonder it’s part of the things to do without Internet.

Hints:

Find a quiet place and think about your progress in life.

Meditate on plans you’ve made and how well you are working at reaching them.

If you are religious, meditate on your relationship with the creator, meditate on the holy scriptures you read a long time ago.

Meditate on how you can best lead a good life.

7. Read Articles Offline. We rarely get time to read articles we bookmarked. It still all boils down to busy schedule and forgetfulness – this time around. You may have stumbled on an interesting article on cooking, drawing, making money, building new skills, about technology and many more, and the next thing you did was bookmarking. But wait, have you checked back on any of those pages? This is a golden opportunity to do that.

Hints:

If you want to relax, read up those offline pages.

Ensure that you have plenty of bookmarks, so you don’t run out of offline articles to read.

To be organized, you can delete the ones you’ve read or keep the link in your notepad.

8. Improve Your Cooking Skills. Sure, without the Internet, you would not be able to place a food order online. Either you are a chef or not, you can spend this time to enhance your cooking skill – both for chef and newbies. Everyone around you deserves a sweet delicacy, and you can do it, little wonder it’s making the list of things to do without Internet.

Hints:

Think about a particular meal you’ve been willing to cook – I’m sure you will have the cooking procedure saved offline.

Check your cookbook and try something new.

Make a call if you need clarifications.

Guide against aiming for perfection.

9. Exercise. The benefit of regular exercise can not be overemphasized. Using the few moments of no access to the Internet to exercise is an excellent idea. You might be uncertain of what form of exercise to do.

Hints:

Whatever makes you sweat, do it.

Run around your compound and do push-ups.

Run errands.

Explore outdoor activities.

Note: if you need to build packs and muscles, use the gym center, or devote time daily

10. Play Offline Games. Games are incredible ways to build our intellect. They are a structured form of play. And they encompass a wide variety of niches. There are video games, puzzles games, board games, educational games, and many more

Hints:

Have more offline games on your phone than online.

Invite friends to play with you, or you visit them.

Play for fun.

Be moderate, set time for yourself, and stick to it.

Conclusion

Aren’t they amazing things to do without Internet? Surely they are! I’d advise that you keep alternating them, so you don’t get bored. Also, it pays to have a to-do list of what you would do if you have an internet cut out or you are managing your data volume. One thing for sure is that we all want to be productive. All these things to do without the Internet will assure you that.

Family / Holiday For Children: 8 Ways To Make Children Enjoy Their Holiday by Tomvad: 6:40pm On Aug 06, 2019
For most parents, kids break are often filled with dramas and stress. In fact, in some parts of the world where school children are on holiday now, some parents have taken to popular social networking websites to tell the world that schools should resume, why? They are undergoing incessant shouts, yelling, and screaming.

As a parent, can you relate with these dramas, or due to your love, you’re willing to make your children enjoy their holiday? I’ve got eight tips or ways to make your children achieve that. These practical tips are far from rules or laws.

These holiday ideas come in double folds– you will enjoy the process, and your kids will undeniably enjoy it too. Hey, before you start to learn, why not grab a glass cup of water and sip gradually as you read on. If you’ve done that, let’s start now with the first one!

1. Call The Kids for An Evening Interaction. This is where the journey starts. If you’ve not done this for a while, it might come to your kids like a surprise. So, be tactful. The meeting isn’t to drag them down, make it as relaxing as possible. What is the purpose of the meeting?

Suggestions:

Start by commending their results: Irrespective of their grades, don’t criticize. If there’s anyone among your kids that didn’t do well, don’t make the conversation center on him or her. Just commend and speak on areas you’d love they work better next term; learn to be moderate.

Allow them Speak: It’s a conversation and not a talk. So, allow them to express themselves, ask them what they think would have improved their grades, and tell them to note down the points, then, if they did well, ask them to highlight what helped, and let them suggest what can help them do better. The last term has gone; there is a better term in the future; hence, don’t dwell too much here.

Ask for Opinions: Now you are getting to the core part. Make it known to them that you want them to have the best holiday. Therefore, ask them what they think will make the holiday more fun. Note them down.

Tell them Your Plan: Yes, after listening to their honest points, you will see sense in their comments, and to show them you care about their opinions, add their suggestions into your list. And then after checking- addition and subtraction, read out what the holiday will have. So what should be in the list? That leads us to the next point.

Key Points: Buy fruits or snacks and allow them to eat as the conversation progresses. Don’t make a strict rule about how they sit; make it relaxing. Use your notebook to note their points. For proper cooperation, you might have to turn off the T.V, and if they own mobile devices, ask them to turn it off.

2. Take Them for Shopping. There are high chances that when asking for their opinions, they’d list shopping as one of the holiday activities. So, start here. This will make them feel relaxed and wouldn’t frown at some ideas that would come later on. What plans do you need to perfect this?

Suggestions:

Don’t go overboard: In a bit to satisfy your kids, don’t overspend. Go with a list, and stick to it. Resist the urge to buy anything that seems appealing.

Don’t be scared to say no: After buying just what you needed, turn down further requests and let them know that’s your budget.

Buy essential things first: Things that can enhance their thinking ability, their understanding, and many more.

Buy fun gifts: Kids love to play, so don’t forget to add that. They need it too. But ensure that the important things come first.

Key Points: To have an idea of what they want, you can ask beforehand what a holiday gift should be like. You will thrill them more if they can have this. However, don’t go blind to your budget; it means a lot!

3. Do House Chores Together. Want your children to grow into a responsible adult? Start by teaching the habit of attending to chores in their tender age. If they are teenagers, you can still add that into your family holiday. During school hours, they might have been helping out, but this time, they have the opportunity to do more. Chores they can help with include:

Suggestions:

Dishwashing.

Car washing: If you have one.

Mopping and washing: Some parts of the house – toilets and kitchen especially

Assist in Cooking: You can start to teach them how to cook and how to make recipes

Key Points: Assign duties according to their age. You can assign duties while you are away and promise to check what they’ve done when you are back. Commend little tasks; this will give them the drive to do more. While you work together, you can use that time to learn about them, they can use that opportunity to learn about you too, and then they can be taught vital lessons also.

4. Teach Them. Kids appreciate it when their parents devote time for them to help them in their academic works. You want to prepare them for the next session; your involvement will go a greater length. But must you be a genius to render any assistance? Definitely no! So how can you make that work?

Suggestions:

Find Your Best Subject: It doesn’t matter what the subject is; what matters is the fact that you want to help them.

Prepare ahead: Fine, it takes time, but don’t you think it worth it? It does!

Help in Other Subjects: Their age plays a vital role here. If they are still in the primary section, you might even have a few understanding of some subjects.

Key Points: Don’t make this process seems like they are back in school. Always prioritize on “relaxed setting.” Each session shouldn’t be more than 1 hour, so you don’t get them bored. Give assignments and mark them. Don’t just dump them somewhere. Remember, all efforts invested will have rewards.

5. Take Them for Lessons. If your routine wouldn’t let you teach during your kid’s break then, you can decide to enroll them in a nearby lesson center where quality is assured. What are the things to consider?

Suggestions:

Their Age: Demand from the administration of the lesson center to know how their time works. Taking them for lessons, which is one of the holiday ideas isn’t to bombard your kids with the curriculum. You only need them to be prepared for the next session. Make it in excess, ruin the whole process. If you search well, you’d likely see the one that meets your criteria.

Commend Them Each Week: At the end of every week, commend their effort for cooperating with the family and the arrangement.

Ask questions: Ask if any of the subjects is giving them a tough time, if there is, assist them yourself, or meet the subject teacher.

Key Points: While discussing with the school’s administrator, don’t forget to be polite in your request. Let your words be seasoned. It definitely will be soothing to the ear; there are chances that after listening to your concerns, they might decide to create flexibility in their curriculum. If they still don’t, you have the right to take your kids elsewhere or pick them at wish.

6. Play with Them. Likely, you’ve been doing this. So, intensify your effort this time. These are options you can include:

Suggestions:

Play Games Together: Games like scrabble, Soccer, Ludo, and Whot. Video games like Soccer, car racing and many others can be included.

Focus on the ones they like: Pay attention to the games they love best, use that one as the basis. There’s nothing wrong in teaching them the ones you love to enjoy.

Design a game yourself: Most games we now play are results of someone’s effort and thinking. Therefore, think of a game to play with them.

Screen-Free Evening: Peer at the wonders of creation. The skies in the night – the stars and moon. If you have the fund, get a binocular, and view into the distant sky. They will be thrilled to learn about that. Make preparations beforehand, so you know what to teach them.

Key Points: Playing games together is not for competition, it’s for fun! So, resist the urge to say words that can stir competition. Commend everyone’s effort. Give a high five, and hug them.

7. Go for Outdoor Activities. Holiday for Children should not exclude this idea. You can learn to widen out. Go beyond your house. You don’t have to be rich to do this. All it requires is planning. Outdoor activities should go like this:

Suggestions.

Places of Attractions: Think of tourist centers, museums, game reserves, zoos, and other centers of attraction that can improve their thinking ability.

Call Friends Along: Think of any family close to you who has kids too. Can you arrange together and go together? You can strengthen bonds within families.

Key Points: Be sure that the family you are calling along is an exemplary one and hold a good moral standard. You don’t want your kids to learn bad habits, do you? Additionally, go with snacks, fruits, and healthy drinks.

8. Visit Friends And Family. At this point, you might all see it as a family holiday. Regardless of what you call it or how you see it, you want an enjoyable holiday for your kids. A few things to bring to mind are:

Suggestions.

Plan ahead of time: Give a week’s notice, and ask for the family’s schedule too. So you don’t affect their family schedule.

Think of something to Take Home: Okay, I’m not talking about stealing something. I’m talking about lessons to bring home.

Go with A meal: You can go with a light meal. If the family you are meeting calls and tells you that you shouldn’t bother about what to eat while you are there, insist on going with something; I’m sure you’d not want to be a burden to them.

Take a game Along: You can go with the desired game. You can ask to know which game the family will love you play together. Just ensure it’s what can build their intellect.

Key Points: When you get back home, ask for lessons your kids learn from the visit. Don’t criticize the family, especially if they did something you didn’t like. Commend the family and send a text or call to tell them you appreciate their willingness to host you.

Conclusion

Holiday for Children should always be fun. Incorporate this accordingly and see how amazing and intelligent your kids will be. Also, some ideas in this article can be fixed on a family holiday. Therefore, don’t hesitate to add that. Although, there might still be times you might have to yell, adding these tips during this holiday will limit them and make you enjoy that season too.
