Thank God it is safe, back in boarding school, i got loads of dreams in which i ate to my full, because food was served by the string in those holocaust days in the jungle.

I had dreams of visiting this restaurant and eating whatever and however i wanted. when they'd ask for payment, i'd tell them, "I'll pay you tomorrow" they wised up one day and refused to serve me,so i bursted, but it is my very own dream so why are you asking me to pay when you are in my dreams, Haba!!! give me food jooo. Grin

Good to know all that dream-eating did not sell my soul outright

@lagerwhenindoubt you're too funny! i dont blame you afterall u provided the dream , how do they expect you to provide money again? i agree they should pay you for their cameo roles! ROTFLMAO grin grin grin, I wish dreams were actually what some pple here are insinuating thy are, i would have been the president of Nigeria by now, lol

@platinumnk
, not sure of what sex in dreams may or may not cause, but im certain that u wldnt get an STD or get pregnant from it! and for guys it might be the only chance to 'nail ' that celebrity thats been giving u sleeples nights!, lol

Kennis, it is very clear that u have not been following this thread, at least you should try to read thru before you ask your question cos its likely that you'll come across similar cases as yours and find the solution.
Also are u sure you filled out the appl forms yourself? cos if u did, it is clearly stated that it takes 3 months to process a study visa and CDHC wouldnt entertain early release request for documents. in reality it takes 4-5 months depending on the time of application

You see, many people in their desperation to get a visa dont even take time to look into simple details, the canadian study permit appl is quite straight forward and can be done entirely by anyone that can(and wishes to) read and write! I wonder why people continue to be misguided and pay heafty amounts to agencies and so called' visa specialists'
Anyway, wish u the best in ur appl

Sometimes its hard to figure why the visa was denied cos it seems the reasons they often give are stereotyped and the same for almost everybody, but there is no harm in reviewing your application repackaging it and applying again. As for the work exp, i dont think it counts in your case cos @ 21 there isnt much work you wld have done to cover your tuition fees, i guess you may have to show stronger proof that your sponsor is related to, capable and willing to sponsor you
DONT pay your tuition fees without a Visa, it is NOT a guarantee! i advice you to defer your admission maybe till fall 09 or winter 10 so that you can sort things with theCDHC before then, cos i assure you the embassy are never in a hurry. wish you the best in your application

gongo aso,
Yes you will need proof of funding even if you are expecting funding from the school, why because to a large extent the continuation of your student funding by the school will depend on you maintaning excellent grades and the embassy will want a situation whereby you are still able to support your education incase funding stops. you can use your sister- hope its your blood sister to avoid any complications and explanations at the interview stage.
also i suggest that u apply to the US embassy immediately since uve gotten an admission and grad asst. I was also in your shoes b4 ie i got admissions to both US and canadian schools i decided to aply for canadian visa first, my passport was with them for 4 months and by yhe time they gave me back, the admission date of the school in US had elapsed. i was lucky to be given the visa if not i wld have lost 2 admissions.
US study visa is completed in a day(once you get an interview date)
In all, make sure you decide quickly and apply as soon as possible(right now) for sept entry! it will be difficult to get an interview date with the US embassy as august approaches also, the canadian embassy will waste more time on your apllication due to the volumes of applications they both recieve in summer.
Feel free to discuss whatever problems you have on this thread and not some shoddy people telling you to contact them for advice through their emails!if you follow instructions clearly you'll get your visa k?
wishing you the best!

Delta, teachme, brein et al,
I strongly suggest that you guys post most of your discussions on this thread not thru private emails and other means, cos thats the only way other pple will stay informed and those with similar issues will be able to learn from, or solve their problems.
Im saying this cos this site really helped me during my visa appl process, so the only meaningful way we can give back is to share as much as we can, all info will be helpful no matter how insignificnt it may seem.
thanks

Hi All,

1. Can Some one tell me what CDHC mean by BONA FIDE STUDENT.
2. Also suggest ways on how one can show that they will return back to their home country, if one is a working professional. Your answers will be appreciated.

@ nedureg01

How are you doing. I will like your views on this thanks.
I think what they mean by Bonafide student goes beyond getting admission letter to an institution as many assume, they sure do background checks on your previous academic records,transcripts,grades and exams taken(eg TOEFL,GRE) and see whether these records correlate with your intended course of study, so that they are sure your aim is to study throughout your stay.although the truth is that they mostly take this decision at their discretion and will vary depending on the individual. The only advise is that make sure all previous academic records are straightforward and easy to interprete without any stories or missing links, it is also advisable to take an int'l exam such as TOEFL or GRE these are worldwide recognized and will give real proof that you are an intending student.

2. As a professional the best way of proving your ties to your home country is preferably a letter of introduction from your place of work stating that you are going for a study leave and will return to them upon completion, but be sure that they'll surely call the office to inquire. Also things like investments in stocks,mutual funds and also strong affiliation to a professional body in your country etc. will help a long way
The truth is that they know you won't return back but they believe that someone who has a good means of livelihood in Nigeria will be less of a nuisance to them and will be more likely to support himself in any case he decides to stay on.
i hope this answers part of your question. All the best, hoping to see you in Canada soon!

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: FA Cup: Chelsea(1) Vs Southend United(1) Saturday 3rd January by tonio2: 9:49pm On Jan 03, 2009
Chelsea has lost it this season! it is evident that scolari is simply clueless. Peter Kenyon is equally as confused he doesnt know when to sell or buy. he sells bridge who is quality cover for cole and we're not even linked to any top player this window. drogba has lost the passion and fire, same as most other players, for Gods sake why on earth should we draw with a league team like southend, even on a bad day we should overun them. now we have a replay which will bring more injuries and suspensions at such a crucial time as January, i hope Mourinhos ghost isnt hunting us after all!
i tremble as we go to OT on sunday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

raptors28:

It’s great that you guys can actually share all these experiences.  I have been denied 3 times so far and the reason remains that I am not a bona fide student and I that I will not return to Nigeria , blah blah blah.

I mailed another application about a week ago, this time around I am trusting God for a positive answer. It got to the point where I had to request for a disclosure of my file/the visa officers note to see the real reason why all my previous applications were rejected, that one is still in the pipeline sha.
Even though I have made my application, I would appreciate it if anyone could help me with info on any kind of supporting documents that I can submit to help improve my chances. I understand that one can continue to submit documents until a decision has been made. I have a bachelors degree in electrical engineering and I want to attend Dalhousie university in January 09 for a masters degree in internetworking engineering (is anyone going to Dalhousie?)
Your suggestions and comments will be highly appreciated
congratulations to all you guys that have made it!

hi raptors28,
If they mentioned you aren't a bonafide student, are you sure you sent in your original letter of admission confirming a resumption date of at least  3 months ahead. Besides was your admission unconditional or there was a stated condition you had to meet, did u include your university transcripts and if possible results of an international test such as toefl or GRE (some schools say it is not mandatory but it is good you have it to buttress your application). The truth is that the CDHC will confirm every single doc you send to them no matter how long it takes. Also when did you graduate from school and what have you been doing since then? these are typical questions that the CDHC will want to clarify. You really have to settle down and find out a possible reason why you are being refused serially as it doesn't make sense to continue applying using all your resources and still getting the same result.
i wish you all the best

Thanks Ezinwannem
Will be going for MEng in Elect/comp eng'g. was planning to leave just after Christmas because the school will be closed from23-1st of jan so not much i can do in terms of academic stuff and reg. but considering accommodation, I'm tryn to secure a place using places4students.com in that case i can pre-arrange my accommodation, though my friend says its better i go there first and see things on ground , still weighing the options, not decided yet, sure this forum will bail me out again!

Hey all,
Ive finally gotten my visa. Thanks to y'all for your timely and insightful advice! although it came late, i had to defer my admission till jan 09.
The bottom line is that applications should be made early (much earlier than the stated deadlines) you wont believe i applied since mid may and it wasn't until late September before i got a call from the high commission telling me to get a new start date from the school, unfortunately the school said they couldn't accommodate mid term candidates and thus i had to settle for jan entry. somehow its ok 4 me cos I'll get to save up a lil more b4 jan grin my only worry is turning up in the middle of winter, i hope Windsor turns out less colder than i think!

@ Ay
yeah i actually saw that i was to include the courier env, but i just assumed it was for pple that didnt send one initially. well that is that! if they call, i could probably get one across. doing it pro actively might end up in getting missing. but im really wondering what on earth they are still investigating up till now wld hv thought it was my medicals but the clinic confirmed no prbls. infact on monday i was just telling them to give me an ans either yes or no, i'll be fine with any decision, @ least ill be able to move on,
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada by tonio2: 2:18pm On Aug 27, 2008
@aydewale,

i was invited for an interview and also asked to do medicals. on the interview slip, it sated that i should bring along my original documents, which original documents you may ask, afterall my docs from primary sch to employment letter were already with them, so wat more documents could i have gone with. anyway, the interview was relatively ok, she asked why i chose to study in canada and what was the meaning of electrical electronics,she didnt really ask for any other documents save for my current(salary) account bank statement which i re-submitted(i already submitted it b4),and a letter from my employer which she acknowleged she already had a copy of my study leave approval, this was over a month ago

As i said, i was in the embassy on monday filled a form stating my complaints(there happened to be 2 of us with similar complaints) and the guards took the forms in and after some time came out to tell us that they were still processing our applications and there is no definite date they'll be through. i told them that my school had resumed and i might not meet up with fall session again. they said that they'd call me if necessary and as for now my presence is not needed.
Well wat else could i do? i just gave my friend a letter of authority to act on my behalf in case anything comes up cos i had to return bac to abuja that same day.the other guy said hell chk bac on thurs an get bac to me if anything happens
aydewale:

Hi Toni,

I think your decision to go to the embassy is the best. However, I would like to ask u a few questions.

1. Was it just the medicals u were asked 2 do;or

2. Did they ask for other documentation and or an interview like my own case?

if your answer to 1 is in the affirmative then save for any major medical issues, you should get your visa this week. If your answer to 1 is in the negative, please submit those docs fortwith.

Please keep us posted on outcome of your meeting @ d embassy.

God bless u, u shall succeed.

Neud;

How far? Any news?

Igbo:

Any news from your end? Has anything changed?

Tanx.

@aydewale,
also i the guy i met said i was supposed to include a return courier envelope when i went for the interview, but the interview lady didnt ask for one. did u include it in yours?

ok all, i finally make up my mind to visit the embassy in lagos after exhausting all means of tryn to communicate. the lagos fone says they r processing june appl and will not take enquires. i tried calling and visiting the high commission here in abj, they would not budge, refering me to lagos for each question i asked. i've even sent a mail to lagos office, im really not expecting any reply on that either!

But pls does any1 know how i should go about it at the embassy(on Monday hopefully) @ least they should release my passport and original documents for Gods sake!! my fees were scheduled to be paid august 15 and now i might have to pay late registeration fees. moreso the school in america keeps sending me registration reminders, i cant believe that my two admissions are now in jeopardy, courtesy of our wonderful Canadian high commission! i'm sooo mad!!!!!!

@delta,Ay
i called the clinic yesterday and was told that my results were sent to paris 2 days after the medical ie 23rd july.i really have to consider visiting the embassy.i work in abuja and wouldn't want to go all the way to lagos only to be told "we're still processing your application" u know even getting access into the embassy can be a whole day's job, possibly without any outcome.is it possible for s1 to make enquires on my behalf, or pls does anyone know any in house person i can contact just to tell me if theres a problem somewhere. getting time off my job will be another ordeal, im so confused!

Hi every one i just stumbled on this site and this has made my day! was really relieved that i wasnt the only 1 in this, I applied to the Canadian embassy for my study permit since may and i was called for an interview and medical in july. On my interview note it was stated that i would return with my original documents however after the interview(with the not too friendly black lady), my docs weren't returned. i wanted to ask why but decided to keep mute(or risk losing my visa smiley), well the long wait now began, no response, cant call, cant email, wheres my visa, or even passport. sch resuming aug ending, fees are due, accomodation, etc was worried sick wat even made it worse was that i also had admission to an american college and needed my passport to apply for the visa as well! my only consolation is that if things have worked for ay, then it will for me as well.
once again thanks y'all and keep this thread alive, theres so much to gain!
