You don't have to necessarily start panicking should any of these occur.

Things you can do include - but not limited to:
* Back your files(or some of it) elsewhere - best you cut - paste (you'll bring it back later).
* Once you've gotten a reasonable amount of leftover space, create a separate partition - A partition will ensure the safety of your important files should you run a 'System Recovery' or Format the system.
* Once you're sure your important files are secured, download or update an AntiVirus. Run a full scan.
* To completely erase every traces of virus, download CCleaner and run it to clear software residues and all, if you want, you can as well install SmadAV(optional).
* Now, go to control panel and uninstall all redundant softwares and applications. Junk apps are majorly the reason behind system crashes, irregularity of the system fan and all.
Once you locate and rid your system of these softwares, run CCleaner again.
* Now, google "Duplicate file finder"... Oftentimes, you tend to have thesame copy of file in two or more places within your PC. This occurs more in situations where the owner of the PC knows not how to use the "Cut" - (Ctrl+ X) feature but "Copy" - (Ctrl + C) at all times.
* If after all the deletes your main drive - The "C Drive" still has a limited space to spare (i.e still indicating red) move more files to the partition(s) you created or simply get rid some files.
Basically, your "C" drive should have a "Free space" of "20 GB" at all times.
* Like the op rightly pointed, some drivers might be the cause of your quagmire. Download "DriveEasy" or similar softwares. It automatically scans for drivers emitting error, not working properly or outdated, and downloads all automatically.
*MOST IMPORTANT PART.
If none of the above works for you, kindly visit your village and make it a soothing sacrifice to the gods of your land, which is exactly what this guy needs to do.

...and because a part of the story was told you, you should atleast make use of common sense to make sense from the write-up.

There are apps out there which can achieve what he claims and more... all he did was
i. Install an app on the phone(paid preferably)
ii. Specify the directory in which he wishes the app should save the calls.
iii. Set the app to start when phone starts and make sure it starts automatically so the victim won't suspect.
iv. Disable the app tone(to get rid of suspicions)
v. Password protect the app so as to make sure the victim couldn't finalise on whether that icon he/she keeps seeing during calls isn't indeed recording the calls.

For more than three weeks, these bozos kept deducting #20 from my balance on a daily basis for a something I knew not about; RatenDate or whatever the charade was called!.
I decided to chat with their customer care and the scalawags kept telling me "We have discovered you subscribed to a service Rate n Date. Would you like for us to deactivate it"... Bastards, no 'Re-activate' it... Why else was I chatting to tender my complaint?.
The funniest part was that this went on for about 4 times, because each time I was about replying in the affirmative, I would get an alert "Sorry, you have been disconnected from the chat..."bladdi bladdi blah blah.
