An attempt by a mother of two children to smuggle a phone to her boyfriend in prison custody has been foiled by the officials of the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS) in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The 33-year-old woman, Fatima Balogun who has been arrested by men of the Special Intelligence Unit of the NPS, carried out the action on Wednesday at the gate lodge of Abeokuta maximum Prisons in Ibara.

The suspect confessed that she hid the phone which she bought for her boyfriend identified as Ganiyu Ajibode, in the cooler of soup from the Prisons officials. Balogun said she was a divorcee with two children before she met Ganiyu about two years back. .

The suspect who said she lived in Fagba, Iju-Saga in Lagos, said she had never visited the Prison since her boyfriend was remanded for armed robbery six months ago.

The Controller of Prisons, Ogun State command, CP Benson Abolade said the action was a threat to national security, as the suspect was arrested for trafficking in Prison, which he said was against the Prison operation.

1. The Federal Government yesterday said it has recovered the sum of $85m from the United Kingdom (UK) which is part of stolen money from the Malabu Oil deal.

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, who made this disclosure, decried the negative attitude of some countries that are still holding on to stolen assets, despite several treaties signed with the Federal Government to facilitate the return of such assets.

2. President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday presided over the rescheduled Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

The meeting, which held at the Council Chambers in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, has the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau conspicuously absent but with Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Winifred Oyo-Ita, Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami on ground.

3. A South-East based group, the World Igbo Youth Congress, WIYC, has, asked Abia State Governor, Chief Okezie Ikpeazu and Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe to produce the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The youths said anything on the contrary, the duo should be made to face the music.

4. The Indigenous People of Biafra on Thursday warned a former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, to stop making provocative and false statements against the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu- Ojukwu and the civil war.

The group expressed worries that Gowon, at 83, could lie against the dead (Ojukwu) who could not defend himself in the circumstance.

5. Senator representing Bauchi Central district in the National Assembly, Isah Hamma Misau, has opened up on the reports that he dragged the first lady into the feud involving him and the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

Senator Isa Misau, who denied making any allegations against First Lady, Aisha Buhari, said his submission to the committee was simply to call attention to how the IGP Idris was unethically dropping names by filing secret documents in court.

According to a Facebook user, Arc Paschal Chike Umeobi, this lady was caught by a vigilante in Ezinifite,in Anambra State.

Here’s what an online report says;

A female prison official working with the Losperfontein Correctional Centre in Brits, South Africa, committed suicide after intimate pictures of her and an inmate went viral on the Internet. The incident happened on Monday, October 16, 2017, according to News24.

The Department of Correctional Services said in a statement that it was shocked and grieved by the Incident.

A clergyman, Rev. Fr. Timothy Nwanja attached to St. Mary’s parish, Okpokueze Nkomoro community, Imoho Development Centre in Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has been abducted by two unknown gunmen.

Reports that the cleric was abducted around 8:30pm on Sunday.

The remains of a serving police Inspector was recovered under a tree on Thursday close to the Yelwa Makaranta bridge in the Bauchi metropolis. According to reports from Northern City News, it was observed that one of the legs of the deceased was amputated.

The decomposing body of the Inspector, whose name was given as only David, was taken away by the Nigerian Red Cross Society and the men of the Yelwa police division. The Mai Angwa Ngas, Monday Waziri, informed newsmen on the scene of the incident that the deceased had, before his death, visited his elder brother who is his neighbour.

He said, “The corpse is that of a police Inspector who works in Abuja. He was hospitalised in Gombe and came to visit his elder brother who is my neighbour in Ngwan Ngas after he was discharged, when the unfortunate incident occurred.

“I was in the hospital with my son when my wife called to tell me that the decomposing body of my neighbour’s brother was seen close to the Yelwa Lebra Bridge, and immediately, I rushed here.”

Waziri, who gave the name of the deceased simply as Inspector David, added that “he was still serving with the police when he fell sick and was hospitalised, and I suspect strongly that he may have been amputated in the hospital.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Kamal Datti, confirmed the incident, adding that a good Samaritan called to inform the command about the corpse.

“Today, Thursday, 12th October, 2017, at about 13:00hrs, we received a report from a good Samaritan that a corpse was found lying some few metres off the Yelwa highway.

“Our men from the Yelwa Division immediately rushed to the scene and took the corpse to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi for autopsy,” he said.

The police spokesman said the identity of the deceased had yet to be ascertained but investigations had begun.

Contrary to reports that the deceased committed suicide, the PPRO said, “I don’t think it is true because there is no sign of violence on his body, however, only the result of the autopsy will reveal the actual cause of his death.”
