I have been in this Biz long enough to authoritatively tell you that your plantain plantation can keep producing fruits for as long as you want it to produce (Maybe 10-20yrs)

First you will agree with me that sucker never die but keep multiplying as long as enviromental conditions are favourable.

Now, if you want your plantain plantation to keep producing fruits for so many yrs , then you have to control for the following factors:

1. Plant a viable and desease free sucker like that which you will get from kenfarm

2. Always do what we call gapping every new season

3. Add compost manure like poultry waste to your farm soil every 2season

4. Seek expertise knowledge

5. Do a soil test to ascertain your farm soil fertility at the end of 3seasons

It even better than to buy, as u know after some year the land will.loss it nutrients value which may require u to change your location And allow it to fallow.

By this period ypu relocate to new land while the previous one is undergo fallowing

Once they sprout which few once has done today.......i will remove one side of the nylon and replace with net to allow air flow.....
And also cover the top with black nylon to protect direct sun....

My tomato nursery..... Planted it on 26th may 2021....... I have over 5k tomato seedling planted.....Waiting for it to come out so that i can remove on side of the nylon and replace with net to allow good air flow....by the way its not really airtight though as there are 2 to four holes somewhere

If the burning is heavy, the quality of your fruits will be affected. Start afresh. The ash and carbon in the soil will help it grow better

Only those that have attained fruiting stage will be adversely affected. In fact ,it will waste them but expect bountiful harvest from the new suckers.
Note this:one of the best way of rebranding a old plantain farm is setting on fire..
My advice to the person, leave the farm,ensure regular weeding n u will come here with testimony. Speaking from what I practice.

Fire don't kill banana or plantain.be very sure of things b4 commenting sir.some farmers deliberately set old plantain farm ablaze to kill pests and transform the farm.there was fire outbreak in my farm in January which burn many young plantains.as am typing rite now,no one die.all have sprout again looking healthy.

does fire kill the plantation? Or it just affect it for the year and I expect it to regerminate by itself and production can start the next year.

It's a blessing in disguise. Pray it rains early.the rate at which healthy suckers will sprout will surprise you.the fire have just refertlized the farm.though it will delay fruiting but expect bountiful harvest in due course.

Work on your state of mind o. It's very very very bad. I have over 25,000 suckers but I passed before I came back to just post this. Work on your mind cause I'm sure you won't have good healthy relationships because of your damaged view of life.

So the simple question is what's the man offence in visiting the farm he want to buy from?or you are one of them?
Seeing is believing. A serious minded person must visit to know d quality of what he is buying. All suckers r not suckers.some will even mix banana suckers with plantain also getting suckers from infected farm is a no brainer.

It doesn't mean anything, you can go ahead. Lol. You said April or May when did you want to plant your corn. You remember that suckers still consist of water, the water on sucker it enough for it grow till March when rain will improve than this period.

If you plant by April or May, when did you want to harvest, the harvest will be during coming dry season, if your farm is at up land, definitely your plantain fruit will be small because by time it need water, there will not be water available unless you can irrigate your farm. And you know how costly to irrigate an acre now.

Therefore I will advise you to start planting now and if you intend to add corn, so so by 2nd week of March.
