jpphilips:

''Humble beginning'' in that cotext does not conote ''poverty'', it conotes a time when sacrifices were made, a time when the shock of reality overtaking dreams and aspirations was absorbed.
Akunyili was asked in an interview why she travels to Anambra with her hubby most weekends, she said she still cooks for her husband as a director of NAFDAC, s!!ly huh!!

humble beginnings dont really include trips and schooling in overseas imo. Not to mention well connected family.

Sacrifices? Maybe not having so much access to nigerian food overseas or or the other hand, enduring the harsh nigerian weather when not abroad.

All the aforementioned mean different things depending on social and economic status in nigeria.

probably true.
Romance / Re: On Nigerian Women And (lack Of) Future Ambition by tpia1: 2:13am On Sep 23, 2014
kids just mention these women as their role models but quick to forget their humble beginnings and sacrifices made to keep family and work together.

all the women are from rich, not poor homes.

being nigerian doesnt always automatically mean someone comes from a poor background. Majority do, but most of the VIPs do not.

birdman: This thread and the OP is proving what we all know, that a woman's worst enemy is usually another woman

that's common knowledge.

If someone decides they want to go the home maker route, what is it to you?

interesting question.

I have seen women hide behind this same logic to dabaru their "friends" homes. Fear women o...fear them lol cheesy

Career / Re: The Biggest Mistake I See On Resumes - Google Head Of HR by tpia1: 9:40pm On Sep 22, 2014
PassingShot: The rebuttals are very apt. Most hiring managers look for stuupid reasons to reject a resume especially if the person is not connected. In the process, they leave out better qualified and competent candidates and end up with mediocre who have mastered the act of writing flawless CV only to discover later that they settled for the wrong persons.
I really enjoyed the replies to the original post.

someone on nl once said he was passed over for a job in favour of a less qualified lady who the manager wanted to date.

i think he got a better job elsewhere, eventually, cant remember the exact details.

Purfekt: 50,000 resumes in a week? That's a whole lot shocked

true talk.

how many of those 50,000 will actually get positions even if their resumes are pixel perfect and written on diamond paper (maybe that would help though).
Career / Re: The Biggest Mistake I See On Resumes - Google Head Of HR by tpia1: 9:34pm On Sep 22, 2014
getting a job depends on many factors:

1. the need in the industry (are you a right fit or are they looking for what you, in particular, have)

2. your connections (probably the most important factor these days)

3. your course of study

4. if the interviewer/employer wants to (or can) hire you.

etc etc.

all this resume this or that is just making conversation.

its like getting a visa.

actually, every single one of the world's most successful ladies, are married and majority of them even came from very rich homes where had they decided to remain single, wouldnt have affected their financial status in any way. They'd still be rich.

so, these misleading threads on nl, are directed mostly at some type of audience i suppose.
Romance / Re: How To Take Her Out And Have The Perfect Date On A Budget Of 200 Naira by tpia1: 9:15pm On Sep 22, 2014
strolling is just as good as bicycle.

zobo drink doesnt always trump pure or cold bottled water.

i think for N200, might as well go with zero naira.

its about having an understanding girlfriend, and this also depends on your own ability to discern what that means.

Onegai:

I hate to break this to you, but there are NO GENETIC STUDIES PROVING WOMEN ARE MORE CARING AND ORGANIZED. Seriously, check. Real published Medical papers, none.

Even in real life, almost all my male relatives are neater but less organized than my female relatives. Women hoard stuff, it's hard to be a hoarder and be very organized.

And kids need their Fathers: my father taught me everything and insisted on homework being done well, as opposed to my mum who said "just do the homework". That's why kids are growing crazier each day, because parents are busy delegating responsibilities to each other and chasing money. Ask your grandfather whether it was his mother that taught him to plant yam or clear forest for farm, he will laugh tire. Your kids need their fathers and mothers. EOD.

actually, its strange but a lot of men are quite neater than women.

kids do need dads, but its rather amazing (dont want to say unfair) how a man can easily bond with his children even when the mother bore the major responsibility in their care. The kids (especially boys) tend to gravitate towards the man no matter how close they are to their mothers.

Where I work, about 65% of the staff are women and many of them are single, some are married, some even have kids - it doesn't stop them from working. Even from my mother's generation women have not been slacking. What on earth is the OP talking about??

good question.

In some countries, women actually have a higher employment rate than men.

the percentage of female staff in most organizations, imo should be closer to 80%.

As much as i like to hear talks like this, i rarely believe the women, especially Nigerian women, who churn out these concepts. You girls can so scream on paper like you are sure of yourselves and will always put your career ahead of any other thing.

But when it all comes down to it, one finds out you really don't have that stomach. Yes, you clearly don't.

true that.

I'd say 100% of those females who make the most noise, would jump at any rich man who so much as looks their way, in the twinkling of an eye.

all the power to the people talk would be relegated to the dustbin in minutes.

sometimes you just sit and think of what to criticize about something you wish for. Its very common with women.
