Politics / Boko Haram Targets Aso Rock by tpn: 12:15pm On Jul 14, 2011
Source Daily Independent

Our target is Aso Rock, the federal seat of power, Boko Haram Spokesman, Abu Zaid, declared in a daring telephone press conference in Maiduguri on Wednesday, during which the sect claimed responsibility for bank robberies and attacks on the Joint Task Force (JTF).
But Zaid denied that the Islamic jidhadists threatened to attack the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).
“God forbid! We don’t do our things like that. What problems do we have with the University of Maiduguri?" he clarified.
"It is belittling on our side to attack university students when our targets are places like Aso Rock and other high profile places in Abuja."
“In this battle we will not relent until the signs of Allah shine on all his servants in this country. Sharia will not trample on any body’s right or freedom.
"Sharia will even protect the rights of the non-Muslims more than the so-called constitution."
Zaid, who booked for the interview in a mobile telephone conference, said although sect members sympathise with the women and children traumatised in the conflict, they will not retreat from the battle until “the religion of Allah is established across the land and the government of unjust people is done away with."
He admitted that Boko Haram has carried out two bank robberies because banks support the cause that contravenes the injunctions of Islam.
Zaid, who spoke mainly in Hausa, demanded the withdrawal of soldiers from the streets, accusing them of attacking ordinary citizens “who are killed, raped or made to flee their own homes."
He said Boko Haram robbed banks because "the banking system in Nigeria does not allow small depositors of between N20,000 and N100,000 to bear the loss of a failed bank, rather it is the government or the top management of the banks that bear the losses.
"Anybody who knows the operations of the banks will realise that we are not touching the poor people's money, and Islam has obligated us to do so.
"So big banks like Bank PHB, Unity Bank and First Bank fall under the banks we will continue to attack, Insha Allah.
“We are calling on the government to withdraw soldiers from Borno State immediately and stop making life difficult for the poor women and children.
"Before the soldiers were brought to the state, there were no cases of killing of innocent citizens; we only concentrate on soldiers, the police and the gulty politicians who waged war against us in the first place.
"Let them leave the town because they will only continue to make innocent people suffer."
On Wednesday, Kaduna and Kwara became the latest states to evacuate their indigenes from Maiduguri and other parts of Borno that is in thrall to Boko Haram’s impunity, which takes the lives of the young and the old in its quest for an Islamic domain, where Sharia law reigns supreme.
Five South West states – Lagos, Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo, and Osun – had in April and May evacuated their indigenes serving in the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in Borno, as they were targets of attacks in the election in which they served as Electoral Officers.
NYSC Director General, Brig-General Muharazu Tsiga, has also ordered the deployment of 1,753 Batch ‘B’ corps members from Borno to other states, but none will be posted to his or her state of origin.
Tsiga announced the redepolyment in his address to corps members at the Maiduguri orientation camp on Biu Road on Wednesday.
He said the relocation is to protect their lives and property.
The only exceptions are NYSC members who are Borno indigenes and others who opt to stay.
All the corps members affected are to apply after a two-week break granted to prepare for their relocation.
A statement issued in Kaduna by Governor Patrick Yakowa’s Media and Publicity Assistant, Reuben Buhari, said 15 buses have been sent to evacuate the state’s indigenes from the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).
“While sympathising with the Borno State Government over the unfortunate security challenges we hope and pray for a speedy return of peace to the state and indeed the entire country,” the statement added.
Kwara dispatched 40 buses to bring home its indigenes from UNIMAID.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Isiaka Gold, in Ilorin implored the drivers and other government officials attached to the buses to ensure the students were safely transported.
Also on Wednesday, five police officers suspected in the murder in July 2009 of Boko Haram leader, Mohammerd Yusuf, were arraigned at the Abuja High Court.
Their trial was, however, stalled following the directive of the court for the charge sheets to be consolidated since all the accused persons were charged with the same offence.
Justice Donatus Okorowo gave the directive after the introduction of Sergeant Adamu Gado as an accused person to join four others brought on a different charge sheet.
The other suspects are Assistant Chief Superintendents of Police (ACPs) J. B Abang, B. Akera, and Adamu Buba, and Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Mohammed Ahmadu.
The charge sheet alleged that:
• Abang, Akeera, Ahmadu, Buba, Gado, Anthony Samuel, and Linus Luka all of the Maiduguri police command, on or about July 30, 2009 unlawfully killed Yusuf and his followers, an offence under Section 315 of the Criminal Code, a terrorist act punishable under Section 15 (1) (2) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Act.
The case was adjourned until July 21.
Yusuf, born on January 29 1970 in Girgir village in Yobe State, founded Boko Haram in 2002 and remained its spiritual leader until he was killed in police custody in Maiduguri in 2009.
He had four wives and 12 children.
The trial of his killers is one of the conditions given by Boko Haram for dialogue with Abuja.

Politics / Re: Can Goodluck Jonathan Lead Nigeria? by tpn: 3:20pm On Sep 29, 2010
I am also beginning to see the weakness in the guy GEJ.I dont think he has the balls to lead nigeria. If after the journalist kidnapping ,the kidnap of the children would also happen without him declaring a state of emergency or even ordering something drastic other than " i have directed the IG to fish the children out" .Even the governor can say that and still nothing will happen.
With this i am sure come 2011 my vote will not go to GEJ. i want leaders who are sensitive to the wishes of the people and who have the balls to take drastic action when needed.no wonder the wife is just running amock without control.

Religion / Re: Stop The Persecution Of The Pope! by tpn: 6:11pm On Apr 19, 2010
Why is it that when it comes to religion ,we all loose our reasoning and just become idiotic.
A crime has been committed, the perpetrators of those crime should be brought to justice.
The person who covered the crime should be tried and if found guilty should be prosecuted. That is the standard by which civilised society exist .Religion does not give anybody the right to commit crime and go free.No body is above the law whether you are the pastor ,G.o or Pope.
There is a difference between what God said and what his representative say.God would not commit or condone those crimes so get it straight this has nothing to do with the religion.People would continue to believe in God .
SO use your brain and get the right thing done.

Politics / Sen Yerima Marries A 13 Year Old by tpn: 3:51pm On Apr 16, 2010
Sen. Yerima weds a 13-year old, pays $100k in bride price

When his name entered into the hall of fame as the first Governor in Nigeria who first adopted the practice of Sharia law, the entire Muslim community gave him a nod for that effort, little do they know that he is a worst infidel hiding under Islamic tenets for his own selfish reasons. Senator Ahmed Sani Yerima’s penchant for underage virgin girls in recent times has now taken a dramatic and shameful dimension. The nymphomania ex Zamfara Governor was recently cited in a wedding Fatiha at the Abuja National Mosque to an Egyptian teenager, the bride is said to be 13 years old.

Huhuonline.com gathered that prior to the weeding, the former Governor of Zamfara State had divorced his second wife since he already had four other wives and he had to abide by the Islamic injunction that provides for a maximum of four. The wedding Fathia, according to our Abuja source who elected anonymity, had to take place in Nigeria instead of the bride’s home country, Egypt, because her country laws forbid marriage at such a tender age, especially to a man believed to be in his late fifties or early sixties. Based on this, huhuonline.com gathered that the Senator representing Zamfara in the Senate had to move about thirty members of the family of the bride from Egypt to Abuja in order for them to witness the wedding Fatiha as well as formally hand over the bride to the groom’s family as the occasion demanded.

The Egyptian team was said to have been hosted at the Protea Hotel in Asokor, Abuja. At the wedding Fatiha was Deputy Governor of Zamfara state, Mukhtar Hanka who paid the bride price on behalf of the groom’s family. The bride price was put at $100,000, which is about N15,000,000, which some of the clerics who were around found quite offensive. According to one of them Islam preaches moderation, but the former Governor seemed to have flouted this. Other birds of a feather who attended the shameful wedding Fatiha were Senator Kabiru Gaya, former Governor of Kano State who is a serving Senator, Senator Maina Maaji as well as the Emir of Bakura who was persuaded to come after telling him lies.

It is sad that Senator Yerima, a lawmaker would choose with impunity not to adhere to the 18 years legal minimum age before engaging an innocent girl of 13 years in marriage. Away from legal grounds, medical facts have it that there are many consequences of child marriage on young girls’ sexual and reproductive health, and many of the meaningful life experiences of adolescence are lost forever.

The decision for a young girl to marry is most often made by her parents or the community apparently against the girl’s (victim) wish. Social and gender norms, cultural beliefs and economic situations all contribute to the pressure put on girls to marry at a young age. Some parents believe that, by marrying their daughter at an early age, they are helping her to fulfil her main societal function – that of wife and mother. They may also believe that they are providing her with protection by limiting sexual relations to only one partner (and therefore reducing the risk of STIs and HIV), and by ensuring some kind of financial stability for both the daughter and the family. No matter how good their intentions may be, the reality is that an early marriage generally offers no protection at all – in fact, the opposite is generally true – and it strips many young girls of their childhood, their dreams, their basic human rights and their health.

Although laws forbidding early marriage exist in most countries, much effort is still needed to ensure enforcement of such laws. Our sex mania Senator should know that child marriage is a violation of a girl’s sexual and reproductive rights, which include the rights to: The highest attainable standard of sexual health, be free from coercion, discrimination, violence and abuse, Consensual sexual relations, Pursue a satisfying, safe and pleasurable sexual life, a choice of partner and consensual marriage, seek, receive, and impact information and education related to sexual health, including information on how to protect against unwanted pregnancy, STIs, and HIV/AIDS, decide freely and responsibly the number, spacing, and timing of her children, and to have the information and the means to do so, access sexual and reproductive health services (Married girls seeking sexual and reproductive health services are often turned away from health facilities because they require a husband's consent before care is provided).

Huhuonline.com checks however, through painstaking efforts widely gave an insight to what Senator Yerima represents and what he stands for in the Nigeria’s political scene. Without missing out facts, Nigeria is indeed a funny nation, a nation of unbelievable comedies. Those who choose to avoid all the anger and heartache associated with the paradox, double standards, hypocrisies, injustice, sectionalism, brutality, and general inefficiencies associated with the Nigerian system, will probably live a long and healthy life full of laugh’s as they contemplate the Nigerian cinema playing out before their eyes on a daily basis. Senator Yerima is a good example of religious zealot that typifies all that is wrong with our nascent nation. A man that identifies more with Saudi Arabia than his huddled suffering Nigerian masses in the North and South. Ahmed Sani Yerima, the former Governor of Zamfara, who against the dictates of our secular constitution and against all odds introduced Sharia laws in his state in 2000, sparking off massive riots that consumed the lives and properties of thousands of innocent Nigerians. Sharia laws prescribe stoning, amputation, and flogging amongst others as punishment for crime.

The introduction of sharia laws pioneered by Yerima, spread like wildfire in the North, grievously threatening once again the fragile foundation of the state. The very idea of sharia challenged like never before in post-war Nigeria, the raison d’etre of Nigeria. It brought to the fore the many contradictions inherent in our forced union. Apart from being a religious zealot, the man is also a known segregationist, and architect of several discriminatory policies in public schools and general administration in Zamfara state. His government introduced mandatory levies for non-indigenes and followed up with a total ban on non-indigenes in public schools in the state.

Moreover, there has also been a stronger emphasis on segregation, with non-indigenes increasingly relegated to the infamous “sabon gari” strangers quarters. Admittedly segregation and discrimination is nothing new in the North. The sabon gari segregationist phenomenon has been a way of life in all Northern cities, and such discriminatory policies in public schools, employment and general administration is a common feature in almost all Northern states, but yet this are the same people that shout “one Nigeria” the loudest.

In the case of Ahmed Yerima he has gone a step further by wanting to be the president of Nigeria. In Zamfara state his administration left the people as destitute as ever. The state is entirely dependent on resources from the South, including value added tax (VAT) on the sale of alcohol which incidentally is banned in Zamfara state. It is shocking that a state that bans the sale of alcohol, even when the Governor secretly drinks the finest French Cognac, should collect VAT on the sale of alcohol from other states.
