Police Officers’ wives protest killing of spouses
On May 9, 2013 · In News 2:25 pmShare

Lafia – Wives of policemen killed in Nasarawa State by a militia group on Thursday took to the streets to protest the murder of their spouses.

The Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Michael Ada, said the protesting women had blocked the Akwanga–Lafia Federal Highway at the Squadron 38 Mopol base axis in Akwanga.

According to him, the women are demanding to know what actually happened to their spouses and had called on the government to ensure that justice was done and the killers arrested and brought to book.

Adah said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Abayomi Akeremale, had directed the Akwanga Area Commander to appeal to the women to be calm.

He said the death of the officers was a big blow not just to the police, but the country at large and assured their spouses that the police would do all within its power to ensure that the death of the gallant officers was not in vain.

According to eye witnesses held in traffic as a result of the protest, the women, who came out in large number, set fire along the highway with many of them wailing uncontrollably and raining curses. (NAN)
Religion / Re: We Need To Ban Christianity And Islam by tpn: 5:08pm On May 06, 2013
I support this move 100% whole heartedly.how can some people even believe the fairy tales spurn by some arabs to mean the whole truth.i dont even know what they are fighting for. jesus is coming soon .since when have we been hearing that and yet we have not seen an instance of someone dying and coming back to earth to come and tell us that truthfully he saw jesus in heaven and he would soon come back to earth.Mohammed is the messenger of god. nobody has seen mohammed anywhenre near so called heaven to even dream that all what he is saying is the truth .when they were all referring to heaven both of them (christian and muslim) did they even have the faintest idea that there is a solar system somewhere or that there exist a planet called mars or jupiter. Its only ignorant people that would believe that one language is the language of God.the greek cicvilization created so many gods why do we have to be limited to only your god.Honourable speaker i support the motion that public worship of the two religion should be banned.if you want to worship anything you want enter your room and do it and nobody gives a Bleep what it is you worship.

Igbos should ostracize Okwu for calling Ojukwu ‘Extremist’ – Umeh

By Tony Edike
ENUGU—FOR describing the late Ikemba Nnewi, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu as an extremist, the National Chairman of the Peter Obi faction of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Maxi Okwu, Wednesday, came under criticism with a call on him to immediately tender an apology to Igbos for trying to rub mud on the image and character of the former Biafran leader.

The party said should Okwu fail to tender apology to Ndigbo for daring to call Ojukwu an “Extrimist” he should be ostracized for showing disrespect to the late leader of the party.

Okwu had in his post-election speech at the convention of APGA in Awka, Anambra State last Monday, described Ojukwu as an extremist saying his leadership of the party would adopt non-extremists philosophy of the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe. He said that “political reality in Nigeria does not favour extremism.”

According to him, the reality of the time must be faced, even though he would not like to out-rightly dump the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s seeming extremist stance in matters concerning Ndigbo. “Zik was known for not blowing too hot on political issues, he was not an extremist, and that philosophy will guide APGA henceforth,” said Okwu.

But reacting to the statement yesterday, Chief Victor Umeh who was restored to office as National Chairman of the party by the Court of Appeal Enugu on Monday, said that Okwu should apologize to Ndigbo for casting an undeserved aspersion on their revered leader failing which he should be ostracized.

Umeh, who addressed a press conference in Enugu, stated that it was the height of insult and irresponsibility for Okwu to dismiss Ojukwu and his struggle for emancipation of Ndigbo as an extremist, noting that but for Ojukwu’s struggle Okwu and millions of Igbo wouldn’t have been alive today.

He said that it was even a greater insult for Okwu to stand on the platform of APGA, which Ojukwu fought and laboured to wean, and denigrate him while Anambtra State Governor, Mr. Obi, who he said was the greatest beneficiary of Ojukwu’s struggle, sat down and watched.

He recalled that Okwu was expelled from APGA alongside Chief Chekwas Okorie, the former Chairman of the party, on alleged perfidy and attempt to sell Obi’s mandate and that Ojukwu as a disciplinarian supported their expulsion.

“For Maxi to come out now to describe our great respected leader both in Nigeria and internationally as an extremist goes to show you the level of destruction that he is planning for APGA.

“From what he said, he has defined a new vision for APPGA, which is a vision of moderation. Ojukwu was never an extremist, Ojukwu was a man who stood very strongly for justice, a man who stood very strongly against injustice, a man who stood aginst oppression of people, a man who stood for equity and fairness, a man who stood for rule of law, a man who stood for democracy.

“It is an abomination for any person who claims to be standing on the platform of APGA to describe Ojukwu’s virtues as extremist. This is blasphemy of the highest proportion and those of us who worked with Ojukwu as our leader in APGA, those he left APGA in their hands will not stand by and watch and see a man who does not have any political character or vision begin to describe Ojukwu in such denigrating words; I call on not just APGA members but Ndigbo in general to ostracize Maxi Okwu until he retracts that statement and renders unreserved apology to Ndigbo.” he said.

On Okwu’s remarks that the appeal court ruling that granted a stay of execution of Justice Innocent Umezurike’s high court judgment and restored Umeh as National Chairman of the party was an exercise in futility, Umeh said that it was further demonstration of the fact that Okwu was not familiar with the law even though a lawyer.

He said that the case had declarative and injunctive elements, adding that even though the court was right to say that it has no business to stay the declarative orders made by the Enugu high court, it had powers to stay the injunctive orders which removed him from office, which was what the appellate court did.

Umeh stressed that the appeal court also considered the fact that his appeal was based on jurisdiction of the trial court to handle the case in the first instance, which according to common law practice ought to have made Justice Umezurike to disqualify himself.

On the claim by Umeh and Governor Obi that their national convention was valid, Umeh said that what they did was a nullity and that many documents were forged to deceive INEC into coming to observe the convention, even though, INEC’s observation of any convention does not confer validity on the process as even INEC itself can still reject it after studying the reports as it did in the case of PDP.

He said that in due course Okwu and his co-travelers would be committed to prison for alleged forgery.

Do you know the history of your "modern", idolatory-based calendar?

Do you yourself know the history of the religion you are propagating?
When was religion established in the world and by whom.?
why is it that its only the religion from one part of the world(Middle East) that is accepted by all.because both(Islam and Christianity) rely on killing people to spread their gospel.
Because one has stopped wanton killing does not make any difference i hope.

Politics / Igbo ,awolowo And Biafra by tpn: 7:44am On Oct 14, 2012
So much has been written and said about this but I wish to state the obvious so that people can put it to rest.before I start it has been agreed by one governor that knowledge and intellectualism is missing I Nigeira so I would want to take it easy with you guys.
First ,igbo fought the war and they lost .igbos deal with it and move on.
Awolowo has explained why he devised the starvation policy.whether you like it or not at that time he is not responsible for Igbo welfare during the war, your leader is responsible .so deal with it and ask your leaders why they did not plan for food for civilians or even at that how many food did the igbo send across to nigeria during the war too.abi is it one way traffic.
That achebe is blaming awolowo for the genocide that resulted is his own opinion .anybody can blame anybody for what he did or failed to do .no qualms.
But the major qualms is that nigerians don't learn from history.and this is the history, the north has always been conservative in their nature which is evident today by the call for true federalism and state police by the southern governors and with the northen governors kicking against it.now is the time for southern leaders to come together to detailed the type of nigeria they want and speak with one voice so that the conservative north can shift ground.but no the achebe memoir is trying to throw spanner in that wheel by bringing up an issue that all the players are to blame including himself because if they could not resolve their issues without going to war ,they ought to take responsibility for everything that happened in the war or achebe wants to tell me now that the igbo soldiers did not kill any nigerian soldier or civillian during the war.
Please igbo ,the war is over learn from the mistakes of the leaders so that you don't repeat the same mistake over and over.my 2 cents

Politics / Yoruba Leaders Exonerated. by tpn: 3:06pm On Aug 08, 2011
Source : The nation.

Former security chief Hamza al-Mustapha’s claim that Yoruba leaders got bribe is a big lie, it emerged at the weekend.
al-Mustapha said the late Chief Abraham Adesanya and the late Chief Bola Ige were bribed by the Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar government to kill the June 12 struggle.
But, The Nation discovered at the weekend that the cash al-Mustapha claimed the leaders got was, in fact, returned to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Adesanya was leader of Afenifere and the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO). Ige, a former Attorney-General of the Federation, was deputy leader.
The cash was used for what a security source described as “sighting” in order to recover looted funds from some key aides of the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, when they were not being cooperative with the government.
The state may testify against al-Mustapha at a Lagos High Court to prove that no bribe was given to any Yoruba leader, it was learnt.
al-Mustapha, a former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State Gen. Abacha, last week alleged that a former National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Abdullahi Mohammed, to ex-Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, had withdrawn $200million, £75million and N500milion from the CBN in 1998.
He alleged that the strange withdrawal was meant to bribe Yoruba leaders after the death of the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, the late Chief M.K.O Abiola.
Investigation however revealed that the controversial sums had been returned to the CBN by the former NSA.
According to documents obtained by The Nation, the return of the controversial sums was duly acknowledged by the CBN.
Some of the documents contained three letters exchanged between the ex-NSA and the CBN.
In an August 11, 1998 letter (NSA/A 320/S) to the Director of Exchange of the CBN, the ex-NSA conveyed the return of the said sums.
The letter, titled FOREIGN EXCHANGE, said: “Returned herewith are the sum of One Hundred and Fifty Million Dollars (US$150m) and Seventy Five Million Pounds (£75million) cash.
“This office hereby undertakes to indemnify the CBN of any discrepancy Please.”
In a letter of August 11, 1998 to the ex-NSA, the CBN acknowledged the receipt of the said funds.
The CBN letter was signed by its Senior Manager (Collection Officer), Dr. A. Yabagi and Manager, I. Nnaji.
The letter of the apex bank said: “We write to confirm the receipt of the following: (i) One hundred and fifty(150) boxes said to contain an initial sum of US$150million in $100 denomination; and (ii)One hundred and fifty(150) boxes said to contain total sum of GBP 75million in GB150 denomination.
“The two receipts were delivered to us on 10th August 1998.
“Finally, we also note the fact that you have undertaken to indemnify the CBN of any discrepancy that may occur during the counting of notes.
“In the meantime, all the 300 boxes have been sealed in the presence of your officer, Mr. S. Haliru, who delivered the consignment to us.”
In a follow up letter to the ex-NSA on September 17, 1998 by the CBN, signed by a Senior Manager and titled “RE: CONFIRMATION OF RECEIPT OF FUNDS, the apex bank said: “We refer to our letter Ref. No. FODMBCO/ ABUJA/BJHO/ CTM.155413/Vol II dated 11th August, 1998 and hereby inform you that we have counted the currency notes in the (i) 150 boxes of the US $ notes; (ii) 150 boxes of the GBP notes and confirm the exact amount as follows (i) US$150,000,000, (ii) GBP 74,999,950.00.
“Therefore, we hereby acknowledge receipt of (i) US$150,000,000 and ii) GBP 74,999,950.00.
“Please acknowledge the receipt of this letter on the attached copy sir.”
A top source, who spoke in confidence, said: “No bribe sum was offered Pa Abraham Adesanya, Chief Bola Ige or any of the chieftains of Afenifere and NADECO to compromise on June 12 annulment and the death of Chief Abiola.
“The truth is that when Gen Abdulsalami came on board, a mass looting of the treasury by government officials who served Gen. Abacha was detected. Those officials were not ready to part with their loot.
“What the government did was to play a fast one on the officials by using a security decoy to retrieve the loot.
“The ex-NSA came up with an idea which was approved by the government. The idea was to retrieve money from the CBN for what we call sighting in security parlance. The sums were put in a vault and these ex-officials in Abacha’s administration were invited one by one to see how their colleagues had been refunding looted funds.
“With that, the affected officials, including a security chief, offered to return their share of looted funds. That was how the government of Abdulsalami was able to recover substantial sum from these ex-officials.
“What al-Mustapha did was to touch on critical security matters which may force the government to open up or ask those involved to speak no matter how sensitive their assignments were.
“It is unfortunate that the revelations may touch on security matters but some of the actors are died and nobody can speak for them.
“At the appropriate time, the state may be willing to respond to al-Mustapha through appropriate channels. No one will cover up anything.”

Politics / China Executes Two Former Vice-mayors For Bribery by tpn: 6:51pm On Jul 19, 2011
When are we going to start executing these thieves.

Beijing – China executed two former vice-mayors from two booming eastern cities for taking millions of dollars in bribes, the Supreme Court and state media said on Tuesday.
The execution of the former vice-mayors is taking place as China strives to show it is being tough on graft.
Xu Maiyong, the former vice-mayor of Hangzhou, and Jiang Renjie, the former vice-mayor of Suzhou, were executed in the morning, the court said in a brief statement on its website.
“Xu used his official power to interfere with project contracts and to help companies and people obtain land, promotions and tax breaks,” the official Xinhua news agency said.
He received 145 million yuan in bribes and embezzled another 53.59 million yuan from a state-owned property development firm, it added.
Jiang took bribes, including more than 108 million yuan in cash, from property developers, and was convicted of bribery, embezzlement and abuse of power, Xinhua said.
China’s ruling Communist Party has repeatedly vowed to stamp out official corruption, a key source of public discontent as the rapidly growing economy gives senior officials opportunities to use their power for private gain.
China sacked Shanghai’s powerful Communist Party boss in 2007 and the Railways Minister earlier this year.
Critics say the fight against graft is hampered by the lack of an independent judiciary, rather than one which answers firstly to the Party, and by officials not being held accountable to an electorate or by an independent media, which is also tightly controlled. (Reuters/NAN)

Wonders shall never end.He needs plane to fly from Rumukurushi to Eleme.

Source: The Guardian 14 july 2011.Page 3
CITING the need for safety, the Rivers State House of Assembly has approved the purchase a new aircraft for Governor Chibuike Amaechi. The governor had written to the house seeking permission to trade in the Rivers State Embraer Legacy Jet bought by former Governor Peter Odili for another aircraft. The new aircraft, which is manufactured by Bombadere Aero Space, is a 2012 Model with global 2000 version. Amaechi in his letter of request said the old jet would be used to offset part of the price of the new aircraft, adding that the balance would then be paid to the manufacturers. House Leader, Mr. Chidi Lloyd, noted that it was necessary for the state to get a modern jet, stressing that the cost of maintenance for old-fashioned jet would be enormous. Lloyd who spoke yesterday during debate on the purchase of the new jet, commended the governor for his decision to trade in the old jet to get a new one.
