Thanks so much.

I even tried checking the E-VFS E-Visa, there wasn’t any slot for study. I checked and checked. You should apply through VFS physically and VFS Lagos Slot (December) for Study get filled up quickly like flash, but VFS Abuja doesn’t in fact there are slot for study for this month. But then both VFS Centsr they will close for the year prolly second week of December, till January! Check DM

Reapply! And this time apply like 3 months to the date of departure. Allow a lot of time because now this is festive period and the volume of visa application is high, hence the longer Processing period. If you want to re-apply today, let your date of departure be within Feb 25 upwards as the case maybe.

Thanks so much..how much did you pay
And which documents did u submit?

Yours is a study Visa, if I am not mistaken, you should confirm first if there is an E-visa category for study

“The new e-visa is opened to Nigerian ordinary passport holders for a short-term visitor’s visa to South Africa. “No other visa category except a visitor’s visa, not exceeding 90 days will be issued via the e-visa platform,” the Home Affairs Department stated.

I know someone who applied like some days after you and have gotten an outcome like early October this year.

Rachyekong:

Hmmmm.... I applied for a one year study Visa to go for a PhD research work in Walter Sisulu University since 5th July, 2022 at Abuja and equally submitted a signed MoU between my home institution and the host institution.

Until now, no response yet... Looking at myself everyday as my PhD years don dey increase because of this same delay.

My host institution have sent in mail, no response... I have even sent them mail, no response....

I’m not sure Lagos is entirely closed. Last I checked with VFS, they mentioned something like Lagos consulate staff are reviewing the applications from Abuja office. I think perhaps a call to VFS will clarify further.

Yes, if you applied at VFS Lagos, They will forward it to High Commission in Abuja. For all Visa Categories. And they also mentioned that applications will take longer than expected due to high volume of applications received & the turnaround period of courier services from Lagos to Abuja and Vice-Versa.
Travel / Re: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by Tryhard: 10:17pm On Nov 22, 2022

Please how can one make hotel reservation directly with hotel since they said no 3rd party

Go directly to their hotel website like Houghton hotel, Johannesburg marriot or any hotel in the city you’re going to, then make reservations or better still if you have a friend or relative in JHB or SA, tell them to write you a letter with their phone number, email address, house address and duration of your stay, attach it with a recent utility bill that shows that house address and their SA ID or intl passport and their visa/permit if not a citizen of RSA. all should be stamped by a SA police not more than 3 months and then bank statement if the person is responsible for your finances in SA if not don’t attach it then yours must be attached.

Did the e-visa rejection letter mention that your friend can appeal? If it did, then your friend may follow the procedure of appeal mentioned in the appeal letter.

If the letter did not indicate that he can appeal, I would suggest that he should reapply with a new travel date if he is still interested in visiting SA (to be safe, 3 months before his intended date of travel).

Also, if the purpose of his travel is not dependent on a fixed timeline (e.g. scheduled training, scheduled meeting, etc.), he can make his travel period longer (10-15 days or more). Of course - a longer travel period will require a bank statement/other evidence of sponsorships that can cover the period of stay etc.

I’ve heard appeals could take long to be treated (if at all you can appeal), and in your friend’s case, blaming the embassy for the delay may not do much for your appeal since delaying visa processing time is unfortunately “common practice” with SA embassy/DHA.

My advice is to reapply, appeal takes 6-12months and that’s if they will even attend to your appeal. I’d advice you to Reapply like 1-2 months before your date of departure because now this is festive season and application is high even at this moment. Goodluck

I do not think that's the reason why it was stucked because I applied for the same category of visa in Abuja since March 17 and I didn't hear from them as well.

Nawa o, Maybe it’s the category itself then because as long as study visa takes some people on this thread have applied for it like 2/3 times and got decisions 2/3 times for just this year alone. My advise is to contact the embassy in Abuja or VFS and ask Howfar because it’s just too long. Plus Lagos is closed and the pressure is on Abuja Embassy I guess that might be contributing to the delay even at that it’s too long.

I submitted my application as postdoc fellow by applying for the visitor's visa. That's what you are to apply for as well. I'm still awaiting my passport from the South African embassy in Lagos since 12th of January.

I heard Lagos embassy isn’t treating visa applications for now, even new applications are forwarded to Abuja for processing. I guess that’s why yours is stucked.

Nawa ooo! Since 12th of January I never see ooo.. It’s almost a year sha. Is this how it is for other postdoctoral student? I think you should go to their high commission and ask questions oo. It’s too long

Please, any latest updates with regards to SA Visa.

I applied for a one year Study Visa for a PhD research bench work since on 5th July, 2022, and until now, I haven't heard anything from the Embassy or VFS

Though, I am aware of issues like backlog, adjudication at DHA and other stories... But please, is there anyone that applied within that time and have gotten response from them?

Thank you.

That’s long, have you tried to check your status on the vfs website ?

Quick one please, when someone have a study visa to study in University of Pretoria, does it mean that learner can’t travel to any other location in SA other than Pretoria. like CapeTown Stellenbosch Durban, Johannesburg. The learner must be at Pretoria at all time

Please who has an idea when those who issue yellow card at international airport close?

Tourist Visa
Funny enough she used same yellow card earlier this year and even went to SA twice but I guess she just got lucky.

I’d say that too. It’s luck! But now. It takes longer time to decide because they check every little thing now. And they don’t overlook errors or mistake.

What is the difference between appealing and re applying , in terms of which is better, cheaper and faster?

So from what I heard, Appeal takes nothing less than 6 months if you’re lucky sha, but I’ll advise you to reapply. It’s better that way. Do you get ?
Travel / Re: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by Tryhard: 10:18pm On Nov 11, 2022
Please validate and verify your yellow card and take the original to the embassy. It’s very important. A lot of refusals now is based on unverifiable yellow card or Not validated yellow card. Scan the QR code. Ensure it is stamped and signed.

Lol but it’s not fight na? I was just asking. It’s not about school. It’s about how much the embassy sees as sufficient.

Ukzn don’t charge for Master by research for a year, still Embassy asks for bank statement. And there is a particular amount they see as sufficient. So I’m asking those who applied and were granted
