Yes, it was not valid for 12 months. But I renewed the medical aid with momentum and submitted a valid one during my second application. I applied in Lagos, through VFS.

Hopefully you get an outcome this week because it’s usually a month

Hello, everyone. I intend to begin a Masters program in South Africa in the first week of January 2025. I applied for a student visa through VFS on October 25th, however, it was declined ten (10) days later due to a medical aid coverage issue. I re-applied on November 14th with the correct documents, and I am yet to receive any decision.

I am quite anxious and concerned 😰. Please what can I do about this issue?

The medical aid wasn’t valid for 12 months?

Where did you apply? Lagos or Abuja ?

Please, is there anyone that applied at VFS Lagos early September who is still expecting Visa decision? Asking to be sure I am not alone.

What visa category?

Study Permit Approved.

Submitted Application at VFS Lagos October 8th.
Notified of Visa Outcome October 30th.
Received Visa and Passport November 1st.

Thanks to @hunee, @Zoey1 and others who lent their opinions.

I’m currently checking on the best Airline with the cheapest rates to fly with First Week in December. Opinions are welcomed.

What’s the minimum bank bal required and what did you use for proof of Accomodation and is it bsc or master?

Hello moderators. Salutations!

As I’m already registered for the current academic session, I want to ask if:

1. 1.5 - 2.2 million naira is a good bank balance for a study permit application for a 2 year Msc programme.

2. The South African Home Affairs will verify the current account balance or just the confirmation of the dates from the statement of account submitted within the 3-months highlighted.

3. I can spend a little from the current bank balance to sort certain needs.

I submitted my application at VFS Global in Lagos last week.

Pls note that I’m already registered for the first year of the programme while still here in Nigeria.

Thanks in anticipation.

Please let’s know the timeline when you get a response regarding permit

Good day All.

Please is it a must that round trip flight ticket be booked for Postdoc study lasting two years?

I booked my one-way flight trip today since I would be staying till July 2026 in SA. I was given multiple entry visitor's visa till July 31 2026.

Need clarification please🙏

When did you apply ? What VFS office did you submit? Whats the timeline please

Yes, others I have checked are above 1m

Use TAAG or Air cofedvoire or Ugandan airline. They are more budget friendly around 400-500k

Good morning @hunee and everyone here.
I completed my PhD admission processing and received a letter from my school in May this year. I applied for a study visa in June at VFS office in Lekki. I keep tracking, sending mails and even called the help desk but same story as usual.

I don't understand what could have caused the delay for more than 6 months now. Is there anything to do about this?

Send multiple mails and letter to the embassy till they reply you. That’s the only option now

I am currently seeking PhD funding opportunities in South Africa for engineering disciplines. My aim is to secure funding prior to initiating the university application process. If you have info on this, I’d appreciate

If you interested in PhD or MSc in Food science and you got good grades, you can send me an email on Nairaland. I’m recruiting students for my research group at the Durban University of Technology. Cheers.
What of Engineering? I’m also exploring funding opportunities for PhD in SA!!

I've previously made 3submissions and none had ever taken less than 3months. Sometimes CSVs take up to 6months.
Just thought to share in hope that there'd be improved response time for application going forward.

Please for this CSV, Even if I have an MEng In Electronics Eng, do I need a number of years of experience to apply for it ? even if I have a found a job? I am just asking thank you. If you can guide me.

You'll probably hear from them in October. Physical application takes up to three months.

Yup, it takes up to 3 months or longer than that. Now festive period is around the corner, high volume applications will be received in which will affect the processing time too. Just give at least 3/4 months processing time before your departure time.

Goodafternoon everyone,

I have 2 questions about the medicals, first, can i go to any government hospital in any state and get it or just goverment hospitals in lagos?

Secondly, do i need any other medical letter from the hospital apart from the medical form downloaded from the VFS site that has to be signed and stamped...

Please I need a good explanation...thanks🙏

To be honest, any hospital will do even private. Just make sure the hospital is on the web and the doctors name and phone number is signed on the medical form & radiology downloaded. Also you don’t need any special letter, only if you are suffering from any illness which can be managed your doctor can draft a letter.

1. It depends on where you stay in SA.
2. It depends on your lifestyle.
Averagely you can feed yourself on R2000 per month budget.

It's a lot better until you understand how their taxis and trains operate. But as much as possible, mind your conversations. Don't engage in thoughtless convos about where you are from.

Thank you so much. Would take note of this. Are there bureau de change at the airport where I can change money, Is it advisable to do it there?
