Business / 12 Negative Habits Of Unhappy And Unsuccessful People by tttjacobs: 2:15pm On Oct 24, 2016
I remember the first day I summoned the courage to start this blog. After publishing my first ever post, I was so scared, filled with self-doubt, self-criticism and an overwhelming lack of confidence. In fact, I was relieved when I saw the ‘delete this blog option’.

With my finger on the delete option, I was about erase my deeply nurtured dream and desire with my own hands!!!!! However, God intervened by reminding me that I’m not a failure but a success. With that word I took a step of faith and I’ve not looked back since then.

How many of us have started like me but gave up due to our inability to believe in ourselves?

Like I said in one of my posts here, our every success or failure begins and ends with our mind.

How do you see yourself? What do you think of yourself? The summary is you are what you make yourself to be.

Larry Kim, a top columnist shared 12 traits to avoid if you want to be successful in life. They are:

1. “This person is always doing this to me…”

This is two forms of negative self-talk in one sentence. It’s filtering because the speaker has filtered out anything positive about their situation and magnified only the negative. And it’s also polarizing, in that the person sees only bad or good (bad, in this case). There’s no middle ground in this sentence.

2. “Great, now my whole day is ruined…”

Catastrophizing is taking one negative situation and exaggerating its effects on the big picture. It could be something as insignificant as getting your coffee order wrong, and yet you’ll let it bring you down to the point where the expression becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

3. “She/he does it just to upset me…”

This is personalizing, and it means that you’re making something all about yourself (or another specific person) even when it’s really not the case. Remember, most people you encounter really don’t have the time or the desire to go out of their way to target you and make your day miserable.

4. “I totally suck at this…”

Sure, you may run into difficulty with something, but you do yourself no favours when you characterize your situation as something that you “totally suck” at, with no allowance for the possibility that you truly aren’t as bad as you tell yourself.

5. “I’m always in trouble…”

No one is ever “always” in trouble, but thinking that means you will act like it, and acting like it may actually mark you as the type of trouble that no one wants to be around. You can change that!

6. “There’s no way this will work…”

Again, a comment like this leaves room only for negativity. And, why bother to do something if you’re already convinced that it’s doomed to failure? Don’t fall into that mind trap. Whatever it is, give it a try. The outcome may pleasantly surprise you.

7. “No one bothers to tell me anything…”

When you put yourself in the middle of whatever you think is wrong, it becomes easy to identify only with negative situations. Worse, you’re also minimizing your own importance to what’s going on around you. Instead, look for ways to be part of the solution.

8. “It’s impossible…”

We’ve all used this one, right? But few things truly are impossible, unless you convince yourself otherwise, which is exactly what this remark is designed to do. Think instead of why something is or should be not only possible, but probable.

9. “I’ll never be good at anything…”

It’s likely that most of us have been here at one time or another. There’s no allowance for the potential good that can happen. The truth is, we’re all good at something, and many things. Negative self-talk keeps us from focusing on those things. Don’t let it.

10. “They don’t appreciate anything I do…”

The thing you do might well be appreciated more than you know, but for whatever reason, you’re not seeing or hearing it. Rather than convincing yourself that your efforts are for naught, you could ask someone for feedback. They’ll notice and, hopefully, appreciate your initiative.

11. “Other people can do this… I’m such a loser…”

If you’re struggling with a particular task, you probably have different strengths that you could focus on instead. And you should consider that other people may not find things as easy as you think. If you find yourself in the same boat with someone else, you could work together to figure out how to help each other succeed.

12. “I’m completely alone and no one is ever there for me…”

It may seem like this at times, but you don’t want this to become another self-fulfilling prophecy. A poor attitude really does seem to succeed in keeping us walled off from other people, particularly people who could help us to find a way out of our rut. If you want a friend, you have to be a friend. Reach out. Ask for help if you need it.

Negative self-talk gets in our way, gets into our heads, and distracts us from our goals. It convinces us that there’s no point in trying, because we’ll probably just fail anyway. We’ve all experienced those feelings.

But we forget that failure is an important element of success.

It teaches us what works and, equally important, what doesn’t work. It teaches us that nothing worth having will ever come easily.

You have the power to change how you talk to yourself, and what you say. Make an effort to avoid these and other destructive sayings. Be positive, and positive things will happen for you.

Career / Job Loss, A Harsh Reality: 7 Things To Help Pick Up The Broken Pieces by tttjacobs: 1:51pm On Sep 04, 2016
I personally believe that everyone has a talent or gift that if properly developed, can be a source of income for you no matter how small. There is nothing as satisfying as doing something you have a deep passion for and that passion is generating income for you. Great names like Bill Gates of Microsoft, Aliko Dangote, Ayo Animashaun of Hip-Hop world and Hip TV, etc. did not become successful just like that, they all developed their talents, gifts and passions to become what they are today. The simple truth is they are all ordinary human beings like you and I. They are doing what they love and have turned it to a source of income and so can you.

Here are 7 steps that can get you started on generating income by doing something you love.

1. What do you have in your hand? You need to think of what you love doing, what makes you happy, what you can do all day without it being a stress. According to Dictionary.com, talent is a “natural ability or aptitude” while potential is a “latent excellence or ability that may or may not be developed.” We notice the keyword here namely ABILITY, which may or may not be developed. The development aspect my friends depends on us i.e. the choice is ours.

2. Believe in yourself and your potential: Yes I can!!!! The mind is such a powerful weapon. Battles are first won or lost in the mind. “Believe it can be done. When you believe something can be done, really believe, your mind will finds ways to do it. Believing a solution paves way to the solution.” David J Schwartz, The magic of thinking big.

Yes doubts will come especially when things don’t go according to plan, but believe that it can be done. Like I usually say, ‘Once you see it, you can achieve it, desire to be great!’

3. Be bold, be strong, be courageous: When starting something new, leaving your comfort zone, you should know that there will always be criticism, negative and positive. Adversity and problems will arise and sometimes this forms of discouragement will come from dear ones like family members and close friends. “Whatever course you decide upon, there is always somebody to tell you you’re wrong.” Ralph Waldo Emerson.

“Adversity is always the partner of progress. Anytime you want to move forward, obstacles, difficulties, problems and predicaments are going to get in the way” John C Maxwell. So my friends be prepared and stand firm in what you believe.

4. Have a mentor: There is nothing new under the sun. Whatever you want to do in this life, someone has done it before successfully. Athletes have the potential to run, but they always need coaches to develop their ability. The great Usain Bolt has a coach that trained him to be what he is today.

“Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen and a push in the right direction “John C Crosby. Choose your mentor wisely, just like some supervisors, not all people in your line of potential are ready to develop others for reasons best known to them.

5. Be willing to learn: You may have a good mentor, but are you a good protégé? Are you teachable? Are you willing to learn? There’s a saying in the Bible, “Pride goes before a fall.” Nobody knows it all. The fact that you have talent does not make you the best. Learning is an everyday experience, we learn something new every day. In fact, I have learnt from little children also.

Be open and hungry for knowledge. “A winner knows how much he still has to learn, even when he is considered an expert by others. A loser wants to be considered an expert by others before he has learned enough to show how little he knows” Sydney J Harris. Have a teachable spirit.

6. Take little steps: Rome was not built in a day. A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. Don’t expect that because you have what it takes, your financial status will change immediately. Going step by step gives you the ability to be accountable. If anything goes wrong you will be quick to retrace your steps.

In my quest to be financially independent, I’ve made some mistakes too. I invested heavily in a venture without doing much research or seeking enough advice. Yes, I had a mentor, but he was only after his own gain. The more money I invested the better for him. Of course the business failed woefully and I became so bitter and angry with myself, but like I usually say, you have a work C.V. and a life experience C.V.

I simply added it to my life C.V. and moved on. But it was not easy, so much time and money was lost. Hence, my candid advise of people starting small so you won’t make the same mistake I made.

7. Put God in your plans: This, to me is the most important of all. Without Gods blessings, we cannot achieve anything. In fact potentials that you never knew you had can be revealed to you just by praying to Him for guidance. Give it a try, and you will be glad you did.

Cheers!!!!
