A 70-year-old grandmother, Sidikat Jimoh has been murdered by suspected ritualists in Ogbagi Akoko in Akoko North West council area of Ondo state.

Her body parts were reportedly removed by her killers when finding at her Ayetoro street, in Ogbagi Akoko by neighbours in the early hours of Monday.

Reports had it that her assailants who were in a hurry to leave the scene forgot some of the victim’s body parts already removed.

It was gathered that her killers attempted to set the body ablaze to make her death look like she was burnt to death as a result of a fire outbreak.

Neighbours of the deceased described her as a devout Muslim.

She was said to have attended the weekly Asalatu prayers that day before she was gruesomely murdered for rituals that night.

One of her neighbours said “she went for the Asalatu prayers yesterday at the Ansar ud deen Society of Nigeria Central Mosque with enthusiasm not knowing that she will be killed by undesirable elements in the night.

We met her in a pool of blood with parts of her body removed by the killers. Some of the removed body parts were even left in the room by the killers who might have fled the scene in a hurry. It was a shocking and sorry sight.

Contacted, the Police Area Commander for Ikare Assistant commissioner of Police ASP, Razak Rauf and the Divisional Police Officer for Ogbagi Chief superintendent of police Kunle Fabuluje confirmed the incident.

They said that full-scale investigation has commenced by detectives to fish out the killers.

Her corpse according to the police officers has been deposited at state Specialist hospital Ikare mortuary for autopsy.

The spate of ritual killings in the Northern senatorial district had created tension and anxieties in recent times.

Ritualists have targeted old women many of them living alone in the houses built for them by their children who reside in urban cities.

An alleged kingpin and his gang members who constantly terrorized people have been arrested by the Police in Ikorodu.

Officials of the Special Strike Force on Social Miscreants have arrested a deadly Aiye Confraternity Kingpin, Sikiru Samuel a.k.a Samora and eight members of his gang in Ikorodu and recovered one double barrel gun from social miscreants.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu had deployed a Special Strike Force on Social Miscreants to Ikorodu, to sustain the ongoing onslaught on cultists and other social miscreants in Ikorodu, Imota, Agbowa, Owutu, Ijede, Ipakodo and Owode Onirin.

The operation, which is intelligence driven, has recorded another remarkable achievement with the arrest of a deadly leader of Aiye confraternity, Samora 24, at Imota, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Bala Elkana disclosed on Sunday.

Other members of his gang arrested are: Adegboyega Ismaila ‘m’ 19 years old; Sunkanmi Shonubi ‘m’ a.k.a Napel 19 years old; Adigun Faruq ‘m’ 18 years old; Rilwan Akinwale ‘m’ 30 years old; Victor Uju ‘m’ a.k.a Zino 18years old; Juwon Idowu ‘m’ a.k.a lighter 18 years old; Rasak Adebola ‘m’ a.k.a ‘Bobo’ 20 years old and Kehinde Keshinro ‘m’ 18 years old.

The gang is responsible for series of violent attacks and gang violence in Imota and environs. One of such violent attacks happened on 12/02/2020 at about 08:30hours which led to the death of one David Nwanga ‘m’ 30 years old of Araro Adamo area. The suspects were handed over to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Yaba for discreet investigation.

They will be charged to Court. In a related development, on 14/02/2020 at about 2330hrs, a team of Police Officers from Oke Odo Police Station on patrol along Lagos/Abeokuta express way, intercepted some social miscreants at Katangowa refuse dump smoking dry weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

On sighting the police, the miscreants took to their heels. Police gave them a hot chase. Five suspects were arrested with one double barrel short gun and three live cartridges. The suspects will be charged to Court,” he said.

The Ogun State Police command has warned students against staging any protest in the state over the continuous detention of the suspended Students’ Union President of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Adegboye Olatunji.

Olatunji was arrested, paraded and detained by police for alleged involvement in cult activities.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Sunday, threatened that any student caught engaging in protest would be dealt with through the arms of the law.

The National Association of Nigerian Students had earlier threatened to embark on a statewide protest over the arrest of Olatunji on Monday.

The Ogun chairman of NANS, Tomiwa Bamgbose, in a statement, on Sunday, said students across the state would embark on a mass protest to demand the “unconditional release” of the SUG president.

Bamgbose added that the protest, which will hold across the state on Monday, would be a solidarity protest by the students against the alleged injustice levelled against Olatunji.

The NANS chairman also insisted that there was no iota of truth in the allegation by the Police that the embattled SUG President is a cultist.

Part of the statement reads, “NANS OGUN JCC hereby uses this medium to notify all gallant and ever combatant Nigerian students about tomorrow’s (Monday) peaceful protest to demand the immediate and unconditional release of the SUG president, Ilaro.

It is no longer news that the President was arrested last week Sunday as a result of a conspiracy against his good intention to liberate his fellow students.

I write with total bitterness in my heart to inform all Nigerian students that Comrade Olatunji after being tortured to confess what he knows nothing about by the police has sustained a lot of injury in the detention.

This level of injustice must stop. We must fight for our brother, remember that an injustice to one is an injustice to all.

The leadership of NANS OGUN JCC hereby summons all radical and ideological equipped comrades to come out in our great number to protest this injustice against our constituency.

Therefore, anybody or group that makes any attempt to throw the state into unnecessary chaos will be made to feel the full weight of the law.

To this end, all the command’s tactical squads have been activated and deployed across the state to nip in the bud any act of violence capable of jeopardising the peaceful atmosphere of the state.

Former Presidents – Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan – as well as the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, were among the dignitaries that attended the burial of Pa Gabriel Nkanang, father of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel in Onna Local Government Area of the state.

Other dignitaries at the ceremony were serving and former governors as well as notable traditional leaders.

The 90-year-old Nkanang, who was a devout evangelist of the old Qua Iboe Church, died on December 1, 2019.

Speaking at the funeral service on Saturday, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said he was at the ceremony to represent the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) and the people of Lagos where the deceased lived for many years before his death.

The VP, who also said he was at the occasion as Udom Emmanuel’s friend, paid a glowing tribute to the late evangelist.

He described the late Nkanang as a devout evangelist, who spent greater part of his life to preach the gospel and impart virtues to lives of many.

Osinbajo said, “Papa was in his lifetime a legendary teacher and headmaster as we heard, who taught thousands of students, many of whom are here to pay tribute to him today.

But his greatest achievement was in the propagation of the gospel of Jesus Christ, where he planted so many churches, not only in this state and the environs, but in the North-Central zone of Nigeria.

Speaking about the deceased, ex-President Goodluck Jonathan said Nkanang lived a fulfilled life of service to God and humanity.

In his verified personal handle twitter, @GEJonathan, the former president said the deceased, while alive, raised leaders and impacted many lives.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, who spoke on behalf of the governors of the 36 states, said Nkanang would be sorely missed.

He said, “We are here for celebration of life; we are not here to mourn our father, not only because he lived a worthy life, but because he raised great children, some of who have gone on to excel and also made him proud.

The management of the Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, has expelled six students of the institution over alleged involvement in cult activities.

According to the institution, the students are Awolo David (Mass Communication); Owolabi James (Political Science); Oyeniran Temitope (Nursing Science); Yahaya Mohammed (Medical Lab Science); Owolabi Opeyemi (Computer Science) and Onagoruwa Oyinlola (Biochemistry).

Speaking to journalists on the development on Thursday, the Vice-Chancellor of the varsity, Prof. Samuel Ibiyemi, said the institution took the action because of its zero tolerance for indiscipline.

He noted that all the affected students were in 300 level, adding that their parents had also been informed.

The don said, “Their expulsion from the university was premised on their involvement in cultism after all fair hearing and due process within the law establishing the institution.

The six students cease to be students of Achievers University, Owo. Anybody, individual or corporate, dealing with them as Achievers’ students does so at his or her own risk.

The management of the university has set up a fact-finding committee to conduct thorough investigation among the students to identify any other student involved in such illegal organisation.

The university council and management hereby shows by this effort its zero tolerance for cultism in Achievers University, Owo. The university is open to any information that is relevant for the discipline and proper grooming of our students.

Shortly after speaking to the press, the six students were handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

On the issue of the deadly Lassa fever, Ibiyemi stated that the school had been collaborating with the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, as part of efforts to prevent students from contracting the disease.

We have a team at the FMC; they advise us and we also advise our students on the ways to live hygienic lives, thereby keeping the disease away,” he added.

A 31-year-old chef, Innocent Etim, defendant in a defilement case on Tuesday told an FCT High Court, Nyanya, that the alleged victim was ”now rightfully married to me”. The police charged Etim with two counts bordering on defilement.

Etim who testified as a witness in his defence, told the court that the girl he was accused of defiling is now married to him. ”I have met all the marriage rites as required by the tradition to marry the girl.

I did not touch her on Feb. 13, 2017. It was her birthday and I asked her to come and collect a cake. ”She came and I gave her the cake,” he said.

After his testimony, his counsel Mr Dickson Umoru, told the court that the defence was closing its case. Sequel to this, the judge, Justice Peter Kekemeke adjourned the matter until April 6 for adoption of written addresses.

The prosecution counsel, Mr Samuel Offiah, alleged that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 13, 2017, at Suaka area of Abuja. He told the court that the defendant defiled the girl, who was 13 years.

Offiah said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 1 and 5 (1) of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act,2015 He pleaded not guilty and was, admitted to bail in the sum of N2 million and a surety in like sum.

Former Lagos commissioners, Mr Olusegun Banjo (Economic Planning and Budget) and Mr Olawale Oluwo (Energy and Mineral Resources), have denied indicting ex-governor Akinwunmi Ambode before an ad hoc committee of the state House of Assembly.

The men on Thursday refuted reports that they incriminated their former boss in the statements they made to the committee.

Rather, they insisted that that Accountant-General of Lagos State, Mrs Shukrat Umar, buttressed their claims when she told the committee on Wednesday that the State Executive Council approved the budget for the purchase of 820 vehicles for the state.

The Assembly had claimed that Ambode did not get approval for the purchase of the buses and subsequently set up a probe committee.

The committee had summoned the former commissioners and some other government officials to make statements on the project.

Banjo and Oluwo were reported to have indicted Ambode when they appeared before the committee.

But the former commissioners in separate statements said the reports were a misrepresentation of what transpired at the proceedings of the committee.

Banjo said he told the lawmakers that he was appointed in February 2018 when the issue of bus purchase had already been on the ground.

He pointed out that the issue was not contained in the budget he managed, though it could have been in earlier budgets.

Oluwo acknowledged that he attended the second session of the committee on October 15 alongside a former Commissioner for Agriculture, Toyin Suara.

For the avoidance of doubt, I reiterate that I did not and could never have indicted Akinwunmi Ambode. I am a committed democrat, a loyal team player and a strong believer in the principle of collective responsibility,” he said.

One Oluwatubosun Dahunsi, who is standing trial before an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court, has said he didn’t know what came over him when he killed his wife, Oluwafunmilayo.

Oluwatubosun was arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly killing his wife at Ita-Ipele in the Owo Local Government Area of the state on October 6, 2019.

The 63-year-old farmer was said to have cut his wife to death with a machete following a disagreement.

The defendant, who was arraigned on one count of murder, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The charge read, “That you, Oluwatubosun Dahunsi, on October 5, 2019, around 6.30am at the Ita-Ipele Camp via Owo in the Ondo Magisterial District, unlawfully dealt machete blows on your wife, Oluwafunmilayo Dahunsi, on her two hands, head, stomach, neck and jaw, which led to her death, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37 Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.”

Oluwatubosun, who had no legal representation, told the court that he regained his sanity after he had committed the act, insisting that he killed his wife in error and begged the court for mercy.

We had a quarrel over our children’s school fees. I never knew when I started cutting her with the machete. It was after she died that I realised what I had done. Please have mercy on me and help me beg my children,” he stated.

Asked if the deceased did not cry for help during the assault and why he did not stop after the first machete blow, Oluwatubosun said, “She cried for help but at that point, her cry sounded like that of a goat. So, I thought I was actually killing a goat. It was after killing her that my eyes became clear and I ran away.

I don’t understand how it all happened. Please have mercy on me.

The police prosecutor, Mr Suleiman Abdulateef, told the court that he had filed an application for the remand of the defendant in a correctional centre pending advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Chief Magistrate Charity Adeyanju granted the prayer of the prosecutor and ordered the remand of the defendant in a correctional centre pending advice from the DPP.

She adjourned the case till January 13, 2020.

The Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano has sympathised the family of a woman and her child who was burnt to death in a truck accident in Onitsha, the state capital.

Governor Obiano has directed owners of properties affected by the tragic accident, including shop owners, to report at the Conference Room of the Secretary to the State Government on Monday, October 21, 2019, see how the Anambra State Government can assist them.

The accident occurred on Wednesday when a tanker laden with premium motor spirit, popularly known as petrol, fell into a ditch and began to spill its contents. A ball of fire resulted from this incident and quickly spread.

Men of the Anambra State Fire Service arrived at the scene with their equipment but were unable to quench the inferno as the angry mob on the scene prevented other fire trucks, including one from neighbouring Asaba in Delta State, from getting to the scene.

In a statement by the Commissioner for Information & Public Enlightenment Don Adinuba, said that a panel will be set up immediately to determine the cause of the accident, why the firemen could not put out the fire and how the condition of the victims can be ameliorated.

The governor also prayed for the repose of the souls of the woman and child who died in the accident. The Anambra State Government will assist their families in their burials.

France-born German midfielder, Topmann Ugochukwu Izuwa, has confirmed his desire to play for Nigeria.

The 18-year-old, who plays for KFC Uerdingen in the 3rd division in Germany, also said that he will not turn down an invitation from the German Football Association, GFA, to play for their national team.

Topmann was born in France to Nigerian parents but was moved to Germany after his birth, and has a German passport.
