Crime / Let Us Avoid Jungle Justice’ Not All Thiefs And Kidnappers Are To Be Burn’review by tundemania: 8:11am On May 25, 2019
Burning a thief with tyre or beating a kidnapper to death is known as jungle justice.

Jungle Justice is a phenomenon that is prevalent in Nigeria. Petty thieves, kidnappers, reckless drivers have been known to be burnt with a tyre hanging around their necks, doused with petrol and sent on a blazing journey to hell.

Some times there are no proofs of these crimes committed, just angry Nigerians venting on an ‘innocent’ soul.

Recently a petty thief was caught and the community residents instead of burning him up decided to make him clean up their gutters! The petty thief did some community service and afterwards was set free to sin no more.

Zlatan Ibile and Naira Marley were arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on suspicion of their involvement in cybercrime.

Zlatan was released but Naira Marley is still in EFCC’s custody and has been charged with 11 counts of crimes relating to cybercrime.

There have been a lot of speculations regarding how the arrest happened but Zlatan is finally giving us his account of the incident.

“It was Naira’s Birthday, some minutes before 12, we were anticipating Naira’s birthday, we reposted him on snap and Insta. …I was so tired… I went to my room to sleep and that was all until someone was knocking on my door, then I was trying to wake up and I was seeing red jacket and wondering how come, this is becoming reality bvecause the last song we did together, the video Naira got arrested. so it was like everything was about to happen for real.

They took our phones, everything. Our properties that they could see. On our way to their station, they were playing our songs till we got to their office. They said they wanted to search our phones… they made all research but they did not find anything.”

When asked what led to the arrest, this was what Zlatan had to say “I can’t really say anything led to it. We just found ourselves there and that was the story. We are there, we had to just face it. Life comes with a lot of challenges when you’re on your way to the top. They’re so many personal issues that are ticker than just EFCC arresting you… life is all about challenges and we conquer them to get to the next level.”

He even went further to compare Naira Marley to Mandela saying that “His social media followers increased without posting anything so it is a bad and a good thing at the same time. We all make mistakes in life. We all face challenges in life. The likes of our former president Obasanjo was formerly in jail. Nelson Mandela was formerly in jail. Meek Mill came out of jail and released Championships. It is only God that is holy. Nobody is above mistakes.”

Jobs/Vacancies / I Will Employ Graduates As BRT Drivers, Pay N100,000 – Gov.-elect Sanwoolu Vows by tundemania: 8:09pm On May 20, 2019
Ahead of his swearing May 29, Lagos state governor-elect, Babajide SanwoOlu has vowed to upgrade the operations of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) for efficiency and restore dignity to the job. He also said he will up drivers’ salary to N100k.

SanwoOlu gave the commitment at an interactive session with his UNILAG coursemates (Class of 1998/2000) over the weekend.

His classmates who gifted him a policy document which details specific directions and initiatives on how to raise the bar of the state over the course of his administration had asked him about what he intends to do regarding the inefficiency of the BRT system.

Responding, SanwoOlu said, “The BRT issue is something that has to do with culture. When we take over, by the Grace of God, we will advertise and see if we can employ some of our graduates as drivers.
What I realised is that apart from the money we will be paying them, which is more than what they are paying an average graduate, we need to very quickly tell our people and encourage ourselves that there is dignity in work. We are going to be paying (them) between N80,000 and N100,000 to come and drive these buses because we expect a lot more decency.

“By the time we get the culture of the drivers’ right, the routes are coming up, by the time we finish the Abule-Egba/Iyana Ipaja/Ikeja route, it will boost the number of BRT (buses).”

SanwoOlu, among other thing promised to eradicate gridlock for which the state is notorious within theb shortest time possible.

Politics / Nigerians Should Have A Day Monthly For Crying- Says Aregbesola [reasons] by tundemania: 7:10pm On May 18, 2019
Ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Rauf Aregbeshola on Friday conveyed his fear and displeasure as the country’s population continues to balloon without commesurate national income.

Agregbesola said the realities on ground should as a matter of fact oblige the country to enforce the practice of birth control so as to preclude an imminent economic disaster.

The immediate past governor of Ogun State spoke at a symposium organised to celebrate the Golden jubilee of Hon Abdulahi Ayinde Enilolobo, an APC leader in Lagos on Friday.

He said “We don’t remember that we are poor here in Nigeria. If we have a deep thought, we ought to have a day of weeping every month.

If we don’t work harder to improve our fortunes, we would continue to be poor. In 2017, Brazil had a population of approximately 200 million people almost about what Nigeria had. That year, Brazil had a revenue of about $600 billion and a budget of $700 billion. Nigeria in that same year made $13 billion and a budget of $23 billion. Are the two countries equal?

“Today, OPEC allowed Nigeria to extract and sell 2million barrel of crude oil per day but we don’t get that quantity. Even if we get 2million barrel per day and if the price rises to $100 per barrel, it means our income will be $200 million.

If you divide this by 200 million people, it amounts to $1 per every Nigerian. We have to check our population by practicing birth control. If we don’t address this, we would have huge problems to deal with. We would also need every able-bodied person to work.”

Crime / My Husband Sexually Molested Our Three Daughters – Woman Tells Court by tundemania: 7:32pm On May 17, 2019
An Igando Customary Court in Lagos, on Thursday, dissolved a 41- year-old marriage between Mrs Mabel Alli and her husband, Pastor Richard, over incest.

The Court President, Mr Adeniyi Koledoye, said that it appeared that the estranged couple were tired of the marriage and all efforts to reconcile them failed.

“Since both parties agreed to the dissolution of the marriage, this court has no choice but to dissolve it.

“The court hereby pronounce the marriage between Mabel Alli and Pastor Richard, dissolved. Both of you henceforth cease to be husband and wife.
Each of you should go your separate ways. The court wishes both of you well in your future endeavours,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the petitioner, Mabel, approached the court to end her marriage to Richard, for impregnating her sister and their daughter.

“My husband sexually molested all three of our daughters. After impregnating my sister, he took one of our daughters to the hospital to have an abortion.

“Our 19-year-old girl also reported to me that he always sneaks into her room to have intercourse with her and I have caught him in the act.

“My friends and domestic staff are not spared. I have caught him with them too, he is just a womaniser.” the estranged wife alleged.
The 63-year-old businesswoman said that her husband was fetish and also wanted to use her for money ritual in order to finance his political ambition.

Mabel alleged that her husband does not take care of the children.

The mother of four begged the court to terminate the union that she was no longer interested.

However, Richard, who denied all the allegations, welcomed the divorce suit, saying he too was no longer interested in the marriage.

The 66-year-old pastor denied sleeping with his wife’s sister, friends, housemaids nor daughters, saying that it was his wife that took their daughter for an abortion.

According to him, he never took his wife to any herbalist and had never ever threatened to kill her.

The respondent said that he went to Kenya for a prayer conference and not to get power and charms as his wife had claimed.

Health / 450 Million People Battle Mental Illness Worldwide (Reasons) by tundemania: 5:06pm On May 15, 2019
Recent research carried out by medical experts have revealed that a whopping 450 million people are currently battling one form of mental disorder or the other.

Expatiating on the details of the research at the Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, Dr. Lucky Onofa said one in every four people has mental illness globally.

He said while over 300 million persons suffer depression and over 110 million battle with alcohol and drug abuse, about 20 per cent of Nigerians suffer from mental disorders.

The don said mental illness could be observed when a person starts exhibiting certain behaviour, which later culminates in abnormalities, thereby affecting his or her thoughts, reasoning, emotions, behaviour and cognition.

Onofa, who is the head, Directorate of Community and Mental Health Services, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, Ogun State, said increasing rate of mental illness portray serious danger to any nation.

In his lecture entitled: “Promoting mental health awareness for a productive lifestyle,” Onofa expressed worry on the impacts of mental health on the people and the society.

He said mental illness, because of negative perception, usually has negative impacts on victims and those around them, adding that the victims were seen as strange and hard to understand.

Describing mental illness as a problem that affects all human beings, Onofa explained that the attention currently being given to it is due to the fact that it is becoming universal, common, increasing and a great burden on the society.

When it comes to finding one’s better half, sometimes consistency and patience usually pays. This is clearly reflected in the story of this Nigerian lovebirds who recently tied the knot traditionally.

Identified as Chinny and Ekene, their love story, just like so many others today, started from the DMs! What makes theirs more interesting is how long it took the young man to convince her to trust him with her heart.

While sharing their love story on Instagram, Chinny revealed that they met on Facebook four years ago. According to screenshots of their first conversation which Ekene shared on Facebook, it took him a whole year to get her attention.

Part of her post on Instagram reads: “From snubbing you for a whole year and half on Facebook to planning a whole forever with you. It has been all ups and downs with u but we can only say they make us stronger. Thank you for making me feel like the most beautiful and the happiest girl in the world. Counting down to forever with you.”

Ekene who also shared photos on Facebook, thanked the platform for making him meet the love of his life.

Still on amazing love stories, a Nigerian lady has nothing but gratitude to God after she survived a ghastly car motor accident that left her with crutches, few days to her wedding.

Rather than postpone the wedding to a later date, the courageous bride didn’t let the injury from the accident deter her but went ahead with both the traditional and white wedding ceremonies.

Politics / FG Reveals These 28 States Won’t Be Able To Fund Their 2019 Budgets by tundemania: 2:07pm On May 13, 2019
The federal government has confirmed that only eight of thirty-six states will be able to fund their 2019 budgets using the revenues realised in both 2017 and 2018. The states are : Enugu, Kaduna, Delta, Yobe, Lagos, Kano, Nasarawa and Rivers.

In its quarterly review, the Nigeria Extractives Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) said budgets proposed by a whooping 28 states are rather too optimistic as it is very unlikely they can fund their 2019 budgets based on the realities on ground.

According to the data publicised by the agency, only Yobe can fund its 2019 budget from the disbursements it received from the federation accounts allocations committee (FAAC).

The affected 28 states are Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba , Zamfara

A drop in oil prices also affected FAAC disbursements as the three tiers of government were unable to share N2 trillion in the first quarter of 2019 as was the trend since the second quarter of 2018.

“Oil prices experienced a downward spiral from November 2018. Oil prices were above $80 per barrel in October 2018 but by December 2018 they had dropped to $57 per barrel,” NEITI said

Average oil price for the first quarter of 2019 was $63.17 per barrel. The average oil price for the year 2018 was $71.06 per barrel. Thus, oil prices have been considerably lower in the first three months of 2019 than they were in 2018.”

NEITI described the budgets of states as being “largely too optimistic” adding that there are wide disparities in the net FAAC disbursements to states.

“This review showed that budgets for states are largely too optimistic. There is no state whose net FAAC disbursements in either 2017 or 2018 can adequately finance their budgets for 2019,” it said.

This highlights the critical gap in the ability of FAAC disbursements to finance state budgets and brings into focus the importance of internally generated revenue (IGR). It also shows the inevitability of borrowing by states.”

“Jubek state government has banned all the night clubs, bars and night music shows in Juba city,” read a statement from the presidency.

Discos we ban it totally because what is happening there is really very dangerous for the future of this country,” he said, adding that girls as young as 13 frequented the clubs.

We are serious and we are going to make sure discos are not working in this country,” he said.

In addition, he said the capital would make it obligatory for couples checking into hotels to produce a marriage certificate.

Agriculture / Why Agronigeria Holds Fort For NIRSAL Against Corruption Allegations by tundemania: 10:23am On May 13, 2019
AgroNigeria, organisers of Feed Nigeria Summit on Sunday said it would hold the fort for the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agriculture Landing (NIRSAL) and its activities against corruption allegation.

Mr Richard-Mark Mbaram told a news conference in Lagos, against the backdrop of a virtual media report accusing the management of NIRSAL of corruption.
According to Mbaram, who is also a legal practitioner, investigations shows that none of the said allegations, including withholding of N1 billion intervention fund is true.

He said that he owed Nigeria’s economy and the agriculture sector a duty to guide and challenge what was wrong and with negative intent to mislead Nigerians.

“Over the past week, a malicious and defamatory publication targeting NIRSAL and it’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Abdulhameed Aliyu has been circulating in the virtual media space.

“It is pertinent to state that no objective reader of the said story, will be left in doubt as to the grave nature of the allegations therein contained.

“In consideration of the fact that the subject of these allegations, NIRSAL, is an apex actor in the Nigerian agricultural sector.

“One which AgroNigeria has systematically followed from inception, the Editorial Board decided to subject the publication to an in-house investigation.

“The findings from this investigation points to the fact that a deliberate campaign of calumny is being waged against NIRSAL by persons who have sinister, self-serving motives and have had their operations circumscribed by NIRSAL, in the course of the latter’s execution of its mandate,” Mbaram said.

He disclosed that the carrier of the said publication were faceless as there was no traceable address to the online firm.

“To begin with, the main purveyor of the allegations:“Per Second News” is a faceless online medium with no traceable address.

“It is trite that the ethical code of the Media Profession and the extant laws of the country make it unacceptable to re-broadcast unverified and injurious allegations.

“However, AgroNigeria, in its role as the `Voice of the Nigerian Agricultural Sector’ has investigated these allegations and found them to be baseless.

“For instance, the so-called `Corruption Magazine” in a post on the 24th of April, 2019 and captioned, `NIRSAL Caught up in Another N342m Misappropriation Scam’, alleged that `NIRSAL under the current leadership has been accused of withholding N1 billion intervention fund in Owerri, Imo State and another in Delta State”.
“We sought to hear from the officials of these governments as to who the alleged ‘expropriated’ funds belonged to, and the conclusion was to the end that it is was an exercise in fake news,” he added.

Mbaram also said that a transaction involving Hope Concepts Investment Cooperatives and Credit Union, in which N342 million belonging to the entity was allegedly misappropriated by NIRSAL, investigated by AgroNigeria’s revealed that the monies had since been returned to the coffers of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

“After the result of NIRSAL’s due-diligence revealed a number of questionable dealings which run foul of the De-risking Entity’s pre-disbursement requirements, the said amount was returned to CBN.

“As the leading agricultural media and communications entity in Nigeria, AgroNigeria is raising its voice in support of NIRSAL, an entity which today is an embodiment of the present administration’s resolve to drive job creation by fixing the agricultural value chain.

“Thereby, making it possible for the financial sector to provide services to a sector which has hitherto been starved of financing.

“Indeed, we commend the foresight of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and in particular, its Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, for empowering NIRSAL to deliver on its mandate in the manner which it has done, he said.
According to him, NIRSAL is not a lending institution. It is a de-risking entity that provides third party guarantee on transactions consummated between Participating Financial Institutions (PFIs) and their customers.

He said that the role of NIRSAL was that of a catalyst for growth in the agricultural sector of the Nigerian economy and has so far been remarkable in its activities.

Mbaram said that NIRSAL had so far granted over N85 billion worth of agricultural loans and the renewal of Emefiele’s tenure was an evidence that the current administration had resolved to sustain its economic policies around import substitution.

He therefore, urged the agricultural community to reject and disregard the ‘attention seeking exercise’ and remain focused on moving the sector forward by working with the institutions and agencies that are doing their very best to bring the dreams of farmers to reality.

Also, Mbaram urged the NIRSAL Team to stay focused and committed to their terms of reference as he called on the media to insist on verification of information before lending their platforms for publishing or re-publishing same.

NYSC / New NYSC D-G Assumes With Agenda To Improve Scheme by tundemania: 12:54pm On May 12, 2019
Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, the newly appointed Director-General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) officially assumed duty on Friday as the 18th director general, with a five-point agenda to improve the scheme.

Ibrahim, while receiving the mantle of leadership from the former NYSC boss, Maj.-Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, at the NYSC Headquarters, Abuja, said top on his agenda is utilising the potential of corps members.

The new director general assured that he would continue to build on the successes and achievements of the former director general by continuing to pursue a technologically-driven organisation.

Ibrahim said he would ensure the welfare and security of corps members and staff, adding that while in office, he would strengthen existing collaboration with stakeholders.

The new NYSC chief assured that he would restructure NYSC ventures, in line with the NYSC Act.

He added that “it is an honour and privilege that I stand before you here to express my sincere and profound gratitude to God for making today possible.

“The outgoing director general has done extremely well to have lifted the scheme to a higher level. I want to assure him that I will strive to sustain the achievements and take the scheme to another pedestal.

The new director general urged staff to remain committed to work, shun malpractice, corruption and ensure team work and fairness in all activities.
