Scrolling through Facebook the other day, I got a birthday notification for a "friend" and felt a twinge of guilt.

He's not so much my friend as he is a dude from Tinder I went out with a couple times. The second time, I pulled a serious dick move to ditch him. I'd invited him over to go to a warehouse party with me, but while we were pre-drinking at my place, I got a text from my friend saying she was already at the party—and she was with a dude I liked a lot more than Tinder boy. I started low-key telling my date I didn't think he would like the party; I said there was going to be a bunch of burners there in costume, and that it didn't really seem like his scene. I also began complaining about how expensive it was to get in, all the while maintaining that I was obliged to go because of my friends.

None of it worked—he was still keen on hanging out. So, knowing he'd done a lot of drugs in the past and was now completely straight edge, I told him how badly I wanted to get high that night. I actually don't even do MDMA that often (anymore), but I said my plan was to get bleeped out of my mind. He was definitely not into that but still seemed to be considering going with me.

Finally, I more or less kicked him out of my house.

It was not my finest moment, but it seems I'm not alone. #5. Your Rapist Can Be An Otherwise Normal, Nice Person


Let's just get this out of the way in the beginning: The vast majority of rapes are committed by someone the victim knows. Current estimates put it at about 80 percent perpetrated by nonstrangers, while 47 percent are committed by a friend. Think of your friends. Are they sociopaths? Probably not, or why would you be hanging out with them in the first place? Yet, if you were the victim of a rape, there is almost a one-in-two chance that your assailant would be one of those great people.


Live your life in complete paranoia because everyone is out to get you.

Mine was a very nice guy. We were extremely close friends and had even hooked up consensually in the past. If this event had never happened, we might still be in contact today, and I would scoff at the idea that he could ever do something so horrible.

I think that is why so many people have a problem with the reality of date rape. If I were to describe my rapist, he would sound like, well, you. If I were to recount our time together, up to and including the party on the night it happened, almost all of it would seem enjoyable. Since our monkey brains want to believe people are either good or evil, we have a hard time handling anything more nuanced, like the fact that good friends can suddenly become rapists. If my rapist was a nice guy, then the situation must have been my fault in some way. I must have been flirting with him. He was confused, since we had sex in the past. There was alcohol involved, so he didn't know what he was doing.

We cling to bullshit like that because, otherwise, we have to face the possibility that our society is so broken that it makes rapists out of regular people. Or, that hiding inside seemingly normal minds lurk potential monsters. People who might never get punished and who go on to live long, happy lives, who don't look like rapists, and, most of the time, who aren't acting like rapists. People who we work with, who are friends with, who we are related to. Those people are also capable of committing a crime that could get them up to life in prison if they were convicted.

And no, before those with hair triggers start firing off reactionary accusations, I'm not saying everyone is a potential rapist. I'm saying that in a lot of real-life rape cases, you would never fathom them having the thought, let alone being capable of actually doing it.

#4. Sometimes, It's Just Easier Not To Press Charges

That is, if they ever make it to court in the first place. We've told you before how absolutely horrible the criminal justice system treats women who decide to press charges. Every woman who is sexually assaulted has a tough decision to make: Does she want to put herself through that?

"Hmmm ... Relive the worst moment of my life, or take that economics final? Tough call."

I knew better than most how difficult the process could be. I had been volunteering at a women's shelter/rape crisis center for a few months and had been well trained in the realities of getting a rape case through the legal system to a conviction. So, there I was, answering calls from others who had been sexually assaulted, encouraging them to go to the hospital and get a rape kit done -- when I hadn't. I was telling them their options about pressing charges, when I had decided I wasn't going to. Does that make me a giant hypocrite? Yeah, maybe.

But, I had weighed my options. I was in my junior year of college. I had classes to worry about, volunteer work to do, and parties to attend. Pressing pause on all of that -- to fight a case I knew I probably wouldn't win -- just didn't seem worth it. He didn't attend my university, so going there for justice wasn't an option. The first person I told the next morning (what's known as an outcry witness) didn't seem to believe me (because, remember, my rapist was SUCH a nice guy), and that set the tone in my mind for how all people would react. After that, I didn't tell more than a select few friends what had happened because, while I stopped hanging out with the guy, I didn't want to make people choose between us ... in case they didn't pick me. Believe me, I am well aware of how bleeped up that is.

Coming second to a rapist would probably do a number on your self-esteem.

It wasn't an easy decision to make. We're taught from infancy that doing something wrong has consequences and that the punishment should fit the crime. It was extremely difficult to know he was continuing his life as if nothing had happened and knowing that he was going to get away with it. But, by deciding not to press charges, I made the decision that I was not going to be defined by this experience and that I was going to take back my life.

#3. You Don't Always Feel Like A Victim

There is no question I was raped, by the legal definition. And I would like to think that the majority of men in that situation wouldn't be confused about whether I was consenting or not: He had to hold me down, and I was crying and begging him to stop. It was pretty damn obvious. I suppose I could have gone a step further by constructing a flashing neon sign that said, "YOU ARE RAPING ME -- PLEASE STOP RAPING ME". But, because I don't want to insult women who go through violent rape, or who are drugged, or who are attacked in an alley by a stranger, I don't consider myself a victim in the same way. I'm not saying that it was a pleasant experience or one that I ever want to go through again. I'm just saying that I don't label myself as a victim.

While clearly inferior to the higher end models, it has something that is guaranteed to improve your brushing: a 2-minute timer. A timer ensures that you’re brushing for the recommended amount of time. You might be surprised at how little time you spend on your teeth currently.

Floss everyday. We all know that flossing is important, but few of us do it consistently. But it’s really, really worth it. It’ll freshen your breath, prevent gum disease and save you from those withering looks from your dental hygienist.

The problem for most guys, though, is the hardware. I’m willing to bet that if flossing wasn’t such a pain in the ass, you’d do it more often. Try buying a cheap reusable floss holder instead of using naked floss. You can get a pack of three for $10 and keep refilling them with normal floss. In the Shower

Showering feels like hitting the “reset” button on your accumulated stank. But chances are, you’re doing it wrong. Consider changing it up:

Don’t shower everyday. Your mileage may vary on this, but most people don’t need to shower every day. In fact, showering every day strips away the necessary oils in your skin and hair, which makes your body produce more to compensate. You can probably get away with showering once every other day. If you can’t swing that, skip the shampoo every other shower. If your hair gets greasy spots, try sprinkling some baby powder around the roots between shampoo days.

You might also want to consider a dry shampoo for no-shower days. You can make your own by grinding together 1 cup of oatmeal with 1 cup of baking soda. Sprinkle it on your roots, wait a few minutes and then comb it out. Fresh!

Wash your face with honey. If you have extremely sensitive skin, or are just looking for a cheap organic face wash, try this: Wash your face with honey. I mean it. Go to your nearest hippy food co-op or Whole Foods and get some local, raw honey (commercial honey is often too processed to have the same benefits). Honey is a natural humectant (e.g. moisturizes without leaving oily residue) and exfoliant. It even has natural antibacterial qualities.

Wet your face in the shower and massage it into your face. Leave it there as you wash the rest of your body and rinse it off last thing before getting out.

Actually wash your feet. Guess what? Soaking your feet in half an inch of soapy runoff while standing in the shower doesn’t count as washing your feet. Get in there with a wash cloth and scrub your toes and the bottom of your feet. This will help you kick embarrassing foot fungus and other odorous or unsightly issues.

Cool off before hopping out of the shower. This may sound masochistic, but right before you get out of the shower, turn it on full blast cold. There are numerous benefits to this so-called James Bond Shower (see: awesome article from The Art of Manliness), chiefly in the hair and skin department. But in the summer, it also prevents you from sweating the moment you step out of the shower and getting stinky all over again.

This is where things get really dirty. On any given day, all this business in your boxers is yours and yours alone. But when things get up close and personal, bad hygiene downstairs becomes much more noticeable. Follow these measures, or risk having her ask “who’s got the funk?” the next time you get down.

Pop a squat. If you’ve been to the non-touristy parts of Asia or Africa, then you’ve likely encountered a squat toilet. To you, these may seem primitive, possibly gross. As Lagos Donates 100 Bullet Proof Vests, Helmets To Police
Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday received a donation of N10 million from the Lebanese Nigerian Initiative (LNI) for the State Security Trust Fund, charging the body to continue to do more for the State.

The Governor, who spoke at the Lagos House, Ikeja when he received the Chairman and the directors of the LNI through the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tunji Bello thanked the group for the initiative, adding that a lot could still be done for the State in that regard.

“Particularly in the field of security, there is still a lot you can still do for us. Without the efforts of people like you and others in the past, Lagos would not have been where it is today in terms of maintenance of peace and security”, he said.

The Governor added that with the business pedigree of each of the members of the LNI, the present administration is deeply appreciative of their contribution which, according to him, is a good initiative.


He said the issue of security cannot be left alone for government to handle and that this was one of the reasons that informed the clarion call to members of the organized private sector to join the State Government in ensuring that the people can sleep with their two eyes closed.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Lebanese Nigerian Initiative (LNI), Mr. Faysal El-Khalil said the members of the Lebanese community have been in Nigeria for over a century doing legitimate business.

He said the members are, through the latest gesture, demonstrating a reassurance of their commitment to the determination of the present administration to keep criminals at bay permanently.


Mr El-Khalil said the donation was about how the members of the Lebanese community can give back to the Nigerian and Lagos community which they have been operating for long.

He said in addition to the security initiative, the LNI has also embarked upon a project towards investing in education by creating an endowment fund in the American University in Beirut where specified number of Nigerians would be beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, the State Government, through the LSSTF, on Thursday donated 100 hundred level four bullet proof vests and ballistic helmets to the State Command of Nigerian Police.

Standing a little over four feet, Ojay, as he is simply known in his Ikosi, Lagos, neighbourhood, is one of the most popular faces within this sprawling and densely populated suburb. There are mistakes that people do and never forget for the rest of their lives. These mistakes turned their lives around either for the better or for the worse. For one Texas dad, his mistake of leaving 6-month old baby at a hot car and putting her inside a fridge afterwards would forever haunt his life.

Michael Thedford, 33, is currently unemployed and would take his children to the daycare every morning. Last Tuesday, the dad dropped off his 5-year-old and 3-year-old to daycare at around 9 am. His 6-month-old baby, Fern was sick so he chose to drive her back home instead

Back at his Collier County home, the dad took a nap inside and slept until 1 p.m. That's when he remembered he left his baby Fern inside the car which was outside the sunny street at temperatures reaching 96 degrees (via New York Daily News).

The heated baby was unresponsive and in panic, Dad Thedford placed her inside the refrigerator. He then called 911 and his wife, who was working at a nearby veterinarian's office.

When the cops came, the baby's heart was already not beating. Thedford had to be taken for inquiry and was later charged with manslaughter. The dad was arrested and soon released after he paid a $20,000 bail..

Last year, Michael Thedford taught physics and chemistry at Celina High School . What happened last Tuesday may have seemed that his knowledge of science had been blown out the window and in desperation, placed his baby daughter inside a fridge.

The family grieves the death of 6-month old baby, Fern. Meanwhile, the case is still being investigated by Child Protective Services (CPS).

As per Department of Family and Protective Services' guideline for parents, the Texas CPS investigates on cases of abuse and neglect of children. It has the right to take away children from unsafe homes before and/or after a court order. Fortunately, for the Thedford family, the remaining two children had not been taken under CPS custody.

There are many cases of child neglect in the U.S. that are handled by the courtroom. Early this June, Parent Herald reported the death of a 2-year-old daughter when she accidentally drowned in the neighbor's pool while her parents were sleeping.

The biggest mistake I see with people using Adsense as their monetization strategy, is they forget that Adsense is a CPC based network. You get paid per click, not by impression.
Yet over and over again I see people not laying out their ads on their sites to maximize their income potential.
Forget traffic for right now. I’m going to show you how you can close to double your income from your existing traffic with a few optimization tricks I’ve picked up over the years.
1. Use all your ad blocks, and make them big
Starting off simple.
Use all your ad blocks. In addition to increasing your chances for a click, this increases the ad spaces on your site advertisers can bid on and gives you a better overall RPM. You’re allowed to use 3 ad blocks and 3 link units for each page of your site. While I don’t normally use link units at all, I do use 3 ad blocks no matter how short my content is.
Forget all the other size options that Adsense gives you. Bigger is better. Forget trying to blend it into your content, just make them visible so people can’t miss it. I’ve done extensive testing colours and came to one conclusion: blending is not always the answer. As long as people can see them, they’ll click on it if it’s something they’re interested in.

2. Place at least 2 ads within the post content
I know, it’s ugly to have ads mixed into your content, but it’s where your ads can get the most exposure. I like to place at least 2 ad blocks within the content itself: 1 at the top and 1 at the bottom.
What works best for me is to put the first ad and the second one right after the content.
3. Use Red Instead of Blue
For the longest time, I had the same colour scheme to my site: black text and blue links. It worked.
But I noticed that using red links throughout my site instead of blue worked so much better. Maybe it has something to do with people’s natural blindness to blue link ads, but red far outperforms blue.

Try making all the links on your site red, and then use the same red colour for your Adsense ads. Don’t use a bright red, but more of a maroon colour so your site doesn’t look like it was built in 1999.

4. Use a Scrolling Ad Block
Google does list this as not-allowed in their policies. However, I’ve been using it for years and have even passed a manual review on my site. Use this at your own risk. It may be a case-by-case basis. If they see you are using it to manipulate clicks, you are putting your account as risk.
Ever visit a website and see the ad follow you down the page as you scrolled down? Implementing that into my websites dramatically improved my CTR and overall RPM.

Even if you do get permission to use it, it’s only against the policy if you hover it over your content. For example, if you had an ad block above your post title and it covered your content as you scrolled down, that would be against the rules.
If you have it in the sidebar, away from any content on the site, you’re allowed to use the feature.
For this, I like to use the Q2W3 plugin, which is free for WordPress users. Just activate the plugin, and you’ll see an option in your widgets to make them sticky.
Sidebar ads really suck for Adsense. But with this scrolling plugin, I improved my sidebar-ad CTR by over 150%.
The best ad unit for this? The giant 300 x 600 large skyscraper ads.

5. Use Text & Image Based Ad
With Adsense, you’re allowed to choose whether your ad unit is image based or text based. Unless you’re seriously in love with one type of ad, try using Text & Image based.

Using both text and image options allows more advertisers to bid on it (text ad bids and image ad bids) and increases your overall Cost Per Click.
Don’t expect to see an instant jump in CPC. From my experience, it’s not a huge increase, but over time, it does pay more per click than an only text or only image ad.

I receive hundreds of emails everyday and find that most people don’t know how to do outreach the right way. They don’t even know how to create a stellar piece of content. Let me show you the exact process in this article.

Identify the influencers you want to target and figure out a way to add value

What’s the best way to find the influencers that can amplify your content?

If you’ve read my article on social media fake fans, you know that numbers can be faked. You can even buy a hundred thousand followers on Twitter to create fake social proof, but expect close to zero interaction.

That’s why a better metric for judging influence is engagement. Someone with an engaged audience list of 2000 can be more help than a so-called influencer with 10,000 social connections they don’t engage with.

In their analysis of 100 million posts, Buzzsumo studied the impact of shares by influencers that had a retweet average of more than two on a post. They found that posts that were shared by 5 people with a retweet rate higher than two received nearly 300% more shares.
So, instead of searching for accounts with a million followers, look out for people that get more retweets – you’ll find that they typically have a modest following.

Buzzsumo is a great tool to find and sort influencers by the average retweet rate in any niche. Once you’ve built a successful piece of content, you can click on ‘View Sharers’.
Then, filter the list by the average retweets value.

You can even find their interest areas by clicking on ‘View Links Shared’ and finding the kind of content they typically share.
Another important aspect you must remain careful about when building your list of influencers is…

Targeting.

Think about these two scenarios:

1. You send 500 emails to marketing bloggers, requesting that they link and share your article about content marketing.

2. You send 50 emails to content marketers requesting the same.

Undoubtedly, you’ll see more success in scenario 2.

By simply plugging in “marketing” and then prospecting contacts that have vague interest in a broad niche, you’ll end up adding many irrelevant contacts to your outreach list.
Put conscious effort into either find influencers in a directly-related niche or have a really compelling reason for requesting links from bloggers in a non-related niche.

Once you’ve got a list of prospective influencers, it’s time to filter for the specific folks that particularly love to link. With Google’s recent penalty on websites linking unnaturally to irrelevant external websites, you might find that many webmasters are not willing to link.

But, when done right, external linking to authoritative and high-quality websites actually helps Google understand what your page is about.

So, scan a few articles by influencers on your list and see how often they link to external websites. Ideally, they must not mind linking to an external website for every 300-600 words and also have decent domain authority.
You can add all of the prospects into an Excel sheet and list their contact information beside their domain and social authorities.

Once you’ve filtered the top 20% of site owners that like linking out, it’s time to get into Sherlock mode.

If you mail an influencer directly at this stage, they will label you as just another blogger who’s desperate for publicity.

Instead, you should subscriber to their newsletter, find out where they hang out and how you can be of help to them and try to build a relationship.

For example – Inbound.org is an aggregator where passionate inbound marketers share their content and users vote on them. If you end up creating content that gets loved in one such esteemed community, you’ll gain attention from linkers.
If you reverse engineer content that gets the most love in a particular community, you can craft a better piece that gets more upvotes.

You’ll find tightly-knit communities on most social networks, including Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+. You can also check for subreddits.

For building a relationship, you can also share some of their top content pieces and write value-adding comments on their blog posts.
You can even point out broken links on their website or offer any service that would help the influencer. Devesh read a series of articles on conversion optimization and sent the following email pitch to Brian Dean.
Obviously, the email pitch is a stand-out in itself, but he also sent the following custom video showing how he could improve Backlinko.

The result?

He ended up making over $10,000 working with Brian from this one, simple email.

Similarly, Eric from My4HourWorkWeek.com created an excel sheet that adds value to the following popular Smart Passive Income post. And, he earned a juicy backlink.
Establishing a contact prior to sending the piece that you want to backlink for is essential. Gregory Ciotti tested the response rates for people with whom he had no contact vs. a minimal prior contact (who replied to a tweet or a comment on a blog post).

There was a drastic difference, because of the familiarity.

Create an original piece of 10x content (and include an influencer in it)

With 2 million blog posts getting published every day, good unique content is no longer good enough to attract the attention of a consumer, let alone an influencer.
You need to create 10x better quality content than all other search results for your target keyword (a term coined by SEO whiz Rand).

And, it doesn’t simply mean getting more words on the page than your competitors. You’ll need to provide:

stellar user experience with your fonts, colors, design, navigation, loading speed and overall website usability
interesting angles that address the problems of your audience
content that will evoke an emotional response and garner social media shares

While writing the content, create a buzz for the content piece by informing the influencers that you’re putting together something awesome.

Or, better yet, try to involve them in the creation of content by getting a quote from them.

Another clever way to score A-one links and expand your brand’s reach is by partnering with an influencer to publish data-oriented research.

Original research is treated as gold, because of the actionable insights readers can derive from it. For example, I wrote a piece on Buzzsumo’s analysis of 1 billion Facebook posts.
It ended up getting over 3k social shares, indicating that my audience loved it. And, it also created tremendous brand exposure for Buzzsumo.

If you can scrape data and perform an analysis, try to find such win-win situations – it’ll not just get you an ample number of backlinks from influencers, but also start a relationship with them.
As per Rand Fishkin, getting a hit with 10x content can take 5 to10 attempts. But, remember that our goal is to get links from a targeted list of influencers.

Ask influencers if they are interested in seeing your content and let karma take over

By now, you already have a list of influencers that you considered, filtered, targeted and involved in crafting your awesome 10x content piece.

Once you’ve put in the hard work, it’s time to cast a wide net. Pull out all of the links pointing to your original competitor’s content (that you reverse engineered) in an excel sheet.
You want to score as many backlinks as possible and not limit yourself to the influencers.

Send your email to the influencers you’ve established prior contact with and helped in achieving their goals.

If you want to gain early momentum, then I recommend these three tactics:

1. Search for monthly and weekly roundups in your niche. You’ll find many authors hungry for content and ready to send traffic your way.
2. Perform paid marketing to a targeted list of influential people. Larry Kim has created a list of journalists and influencers on Twitter. He performs paid marketing to ensure that his posts get in front of the right people at the right time.
And, it has helped him in getting his articles picked up by press and to also score television interviews.
3. Remember how I asked you to add domain authority and social authority columns in your excel sheet in the first step?

Start with prospecting the second and third tier of influencers first – meaning those individuals with lesser but more engaged following and more time to check their emails.
Once you gain traction with these, your chances of success with the top-tier influencers increase.

Buzzstream advocates that you to start with tier-1 influencers first, because if your content is picked by them, it’ll trickle down to the lower tiers (classic Pareto principle in action). If you’re ready to face the initial rejection, then take this harder route.

The man told me that he was carrying an Hausa man today and both of them were discussing together, along the line the man asked him whether he is Igbo (I am staying at onitsha) and the man pretended and said that he is from kogi state and that made the man to feel at home to tell him this secret, that the reason many Hausa people are coming down to Eastern States now is to enable them fulfill their mission. The agenda is to make it easier for them to penetrate through these states in their vision of turning them all to Islamic States. He didn't stop there, he went further to say that many of the commercial bikes'men who are mostly hausas now were duly sponsored with bikes by big alhajis to enable them know every nook and cranny of these states, to roam every corner of Igbo land for their mission, that when their mission starts, it won't be hard to be accomplished.
