MumTee:
Hello Mums, though I don't have an idea what the BC looks like but I have a question.
When filling the BC form, for those of us whose Int passport is in our maiden name despite being married. What name do we fill in the BC form (as the mother) does it allow us to fill both maiden name and married name?

I was asked for my maiden name and that is what appears on my baby's BC. Like you my maiden name appears on Intel passport. As a word of caution, ensure the info you fill is the same as what you filled out on the form that the welfare officer/ social worker obtained from you after birth. I delivered at WHMC and right afterwards a social worker filled out a form for me. On it they specified 'mothers maiden name' so just be sure you double check. Good luck.

I have gotten my baby's BC and SSN. Took a little over 2 weeks. Could have gotten it sooner but still recovering from CS plus my card got blocked due to BVN issues which hubby had to help me sort out in Abuja. Any way God is faithful and sent me an angel in the form of another preggie who gave me moral support all the way. It's tough when you are alone on this missionary journey. I'm running on less than 4 hrs of sleep everyday! tongue embarassed can't wait to get back home!

Nig embassy says u need notarized letter of consent from both parent when applying for visa, pls my NL fam advice ME further as My hubby is in Nigeria. I would greatly appreciate if someone could drop a format of the letter as well o. God will bless you all for helping this ftm

Hello NL fam,

So I have not been here for a while....that's because my precious son keeps me on a tight schedule. I had my bundle of joy on the 21st of October by Scheduled C section at WHMC. The baby was too big for me to deliver by natural birth. He weighed a whooping 8lbs 5oz. I give God all the praise!! My Son had a slight touch of Jaundice and had to spend a night under photo therapy. I have additional bills to pay, but what matters most is that my son is healthy and thriving. There was another little baby that wasn't so fortunate, he had to be transferred to another hospital.

So I'm moving on to the next step which is baby documentation. I already reached out to @Tvegas who has been so very helpful. Thanks again, I will be coming back again to update y'all on how it's going.

Hello NL Fam

Its been great fun reading up on the happenings on the forum- never a dull moment cheesy keep it up! These final weeks of waiting can get really trying so im definitely keeping my self entertained and informed thanks to you all

I have a question, ive run out of dollars but have money (Naira) in my gt bank account. Someone advised i use moneygram (or was it moneyorder ) which i can obtain at Walmart and deposit it in my US bank account.

Now i ask all the financial gurus and experienced folks in the house, is this wise? And if so, can someone shed more light on how i can go about it?

I need to pay epidural and pediatrician fees which come up to $1700 and after reading about restrictions on online payment, POS and exchange rate im getting rather concerned.

Thanks

I also had to redo my son"s circimsion in Nigeria when we came back as it wasn't done Niger style. The doctor left excess foreskin and his cap was still partly covered.I personally didn't mind but all the looks and questions on why I was yet to circumcise him after 3months was getting too embarrassing. After input from parents,in laws etc(trust our people now),I re circumcised him and believe me it was a very painful experience for us both.
My suggestion;take a picture of what you want along.A friend went with her older son that was circumcised in Nigeria and showed his "tghing" to the doctor.

My thoughts exactly! This issue of circumcision has given me sleepless nights!! undecided I have resolved to carry a picture of a well circumcised 'kini' to my delivery to forestall any reworking caused by corner kick circumcision. Gbam!!!

Long Post Alert!!!!

Hello NL Fam!

I am reporting live from Sugarland Tx to the glory of the most High. I arrived on Tuesday!
You are only hearing from me now because I had to take time out to recover from the long Isrealite journey (Abu-Paris-Detroit-Houston) and to overcome the effects of jetlag!
In the spirit of giving back, I wish to relate my POE experience at Detroit Michigan;

So the plane arrived after a two hour delay at Paris (which by the way is such a beautiful place I didn't mind cos I had time to browse through the many shops!!!!) Three other planes arrived the same time so the crowd was unbelievable. I began to reconsider why I hadn't opted for a wheelchair like I learned on this forum. My DH was of the opinion that a wheelchair may give the impression that I was infirmed and therefore unfit to fly.

At this juncture permit me to digress a little....before my departure from naija, I obtained a fit to fly certificate from Garki Hospital ( it cost me a pretty penny too ) only to reach the Air France check in stand at Abuja airport and learn they do not accept fit to fly from anywhere except the Port Health service dept. angry I was directed to the place and examined by a nurse who miscalculated my EDD. I corrected her error, even showed her my fit to fly from the Hospital, the content of which she dubbed to fill out her own fit to fly certificate. shocked shocked I was charged N1000 official rate and N2000 as her own kpaje (imagine the errant rubbish angry ) I used my strong head to pay the official rate before hightailing it out of there as fast as my big tummy would allow. Not sure if this applies to all airlines but all Air france Mamas in the house be advised.

So there I was standing in a long queue at Detroit's POE. Thank God for the wisdom of wearing compression sock (another invaluable thing I learned on the forum grin ) Eventually I was face to face with the officer.

Officer: ( while scaning my passport) why have you come to the states.
ME: For medical reasons and also to have my baby.
Officer: Have you ever been to the United States before?
ME: No. This is my first time.
Officer: Do you have relatives here?
ME: Yes, my uncle and his family live here.
Officer: (typing on computer) Why did you decide to come to US to have your baby?
ME: My cousin works at a hospital here and she recommended that I consult a doctor there. He's the same one who delivered her baby.
Officer: Are you interested in getting a green card?
ME: For myself?
Officer: (staring directly into my eyes and nodding)
ME: No I'm not.

The officer finger prints ME then leads me over to secondary inspection where I'm asked to have a seat. During my hour long wait I witnessed an Indian couple grilled by an unflinching officer and denied entry into the United States. I said a prayer to God and tried to remain calm.

Eventually I was called up and asked how I intended to pay for my medical bills. I told the officer I had already made some payments. I showed him my receipts, correspondence with hospital and Dr Appointment. He asked how much I had with me, I told him $3000. He asked me to have a seat while he vanished into the office for about 7 mins. When he emerged, he handed me my passport and documents, said I was okay to go and escorted me back into the airport. He wanted to know if I needed someone to help carry my luggage. I had no idea my luggage had been brought in. No questions asked if I had food items ( which of course I did) He linked me up with an airport luggage handler and wished me a safe trip. Minutes later I boarded my connecting flight to Houston.

That's my POE experience folks, I give God all the glory & wish the same smooth, hassle free entry for all those coming to the States to have their babies. grin

Hello House!
I'm a mum-to- be at 24weeks grin and have been a silent follower of this forum for months now. The info garnered from reading through the pages have proved invaluable, so thanks to everyone who contributed. I firmly believe that all the weeks of jotting down notes, copying pasting and printing information from this site really helped a lot.

DH & I went to US Embassy Abuja & the interview went something like this:

VO: Good morning
DH &I: (bright smiles in place grin): Good morning.
VO: How are you two related?
DH: We are husband and wife.
VOsadtyping many things on computer) What's your purpose of visiting US?
ME: To have my baby.
VO: (continues typing) Have you ever been outside Nigeria?
DH : Yes, just returned from Brazil where I attended Rotary convention
VO (looks at me) And you?
ME: Ghana and thats about it
VO: ( peering at monitor) Sir have you ever been petitioned in the US before?
DH: No I haven't.
VO: (staring at my Oga with suspicion) Were you petitioned in the US in the year 2000?
ME: (Ha! Petition ke! Enemies of progress from my village, una don wake form sleep Abi? Holy Ghost Fire!!!! Consume them, Consume them!)
DH: No, I've never been petitioned.
VO: Do you have any male relative who lives in the US?
DH: My father lived there for several years, he's lack in Nigeria now
VO: (typing away) what to you do?
DH:I'm self employed, i do blah blah blah...
VO: And how much do you earn monthly?
DH: between *abc* and *xyz* depending on how market is
VO: And your wife, where does she work?
DH: She's a govt worker
VO: How much does she earn in a month?
ME: N *******
VO: (looking very skeptical) How will you afford the cost of having your baby in the US?
DH: We have savings.
ME: And family support.
VO: You've got family in the US?
DH: Yes, my uncle. He sent an invitation letter. I have it right here...( reaching for document in envelope)
VO: (looking bored) I don't need to see any document
VO: Where in the US will you be visiting
DH: Houston TX
VO: How long will you plan to stay
ME: My first appointment is in August, will be there till December.
VO: Do you have any correspondence with the Hospital.
DH: Yes we do. Dr's appointment letter at West Houston Medical Hospital payment bills for hospital including Dr's fees. (He hands them over and VO sorts through)
VO: Excuse me, I'll be back in a moment (she goes off somewhere and returns after 2 minutes) You can pick up your visa next week. Make sure you collect receipts for all hospital payment. You are not to use public utilities like health insurance. If you do, we won't issue you a visa when next you wish to travel. Have a safe trip.

It took all of 10 minutes to the glory of God Almighty!!!! cheesy cheesy

Now unto the next step : ticket booking and travel

I'm Houston bound and have heard a lot from this forum about the POE (amazingly good and bad alike, I'm hoping for the amazingly good one sha!)

I'm also needing advice on where I can buy compression socks in Abj, approved Naija food list I can carry along (pepper soup spice and things) and how I can select option of wheelchair service on KLM flight.

Finally if there are any October Mummies in the house who are going to WHMH, hola @ ur girl. I need support structure lest I perish from boredom in obodo oyibo as DH is not coming until baby is due.

Thanks in advance kiss
