The worst of our politics especially in the present dispensation is the elevation of idiocy as the essential barometer in gauging the relevance of political actors. This negative tendency has not only enveloped the entire political class but has dangerously permeated the fabrics of our collective psyche. It has fuelled the burning desires of unredeemed nation wreckers to continuously entrench prejudices in the minds of Nigerians. Such characters in quest of alimentary loading disguised as nation building have ruined our democracy and without doubt abridged our march to glory land. If this fundamental flaw in our political orientation is not addressed, we shall continue our descent into developmental abyss. The choice is totally ours and this is not the time for grandstanding.

The latest piece published on “Fact News Online” by one Femi Fani-Kayode, a political inferno with zero electoral value is the most-feeble attempt by any political opportunist at carving relevance for oneself. I do not begrudge his kind of politics which he is democratically entitled to. The problem however is his penchant for emitting falsehood to hoodwink the gullible and create enmity among the different federating units of our country. When this opportunist joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), many cheered him and called him a patriot. Those of us that saw through his antics simply laughed him off. In a widely published piece I penned on 17th August, 2013 titled: “Fani-Kayode: A bigot in search of redemption” I posited that “Unfortunately for him, the Yoruba political establishment on the left flank rarely forgives “vagabonds” no matter the staccatissimos of their music. So my summation is that Fani-Kayode is on a blind mission in pursuit of relevance.” Was the door to political relevance slammed in front of him? Did that push him to not only eat his PDP vomit but lick the floor to at least be allowed to be a janitor at PDP banquet house?

After reading the contents of his misguided piece, I reached the conclusion that only a man soaked with the products of a demonic farm house could have effused in the manner he did. Characters like him must be purified at the “Rivers of Sanity” that flows from the ‘Atewa Ridge’ and empties at the ‘Weija’ dam enroute to the Atlantic. This “River of sanity” is called Densu River in Ghana. It is after this purification that he can engage in a sane public debate.

My heart is gladdened that at last the Federal Government of Nigeria is finally in bed with a man who is in possession of relevant information that could help it in nailing the opposition. Fani-Kayode is emphatic on his knowledge of those that not only kidnapped the girls to score cheap political points but responsible for the unabated blood-letting in the land to ridicule the government and project it as incapable of protection Nigerians. The Department of State Security (DSS) should extend an invitation to him on this matter. We cannot indulge the “killers” as claimed by the obtuse minded one. There is a limit to political propaganda and sophistry and this to me is that point we can no longer use politics and propaganda as a clearing house for the naked dancing of individuals who ordinarily should know better.

In a failed attempt at consolidating the puerile straight jacketing of APC as a Muslim party, he linked the party to the Middle East with little or no evidence to back his claims. However, beyond the infantile tattles of Fani-Kayode, the party must continue on the path of all embracing policy it has adopted in its pursuit to liberate the country and save it from the present mess engulfing all of us. He is not alone in the propaganda battle he is waging against the party. This is exactly why the PDP welcomed him with both arms as he rightly posited. They needed a man with no honour and personal reappraisal. This is why I believe that the bane of our country is the overwhelming number of the intellectually corrupt in our system. It is only an intellectually corrupt individual that can effuse the manner he does. Intellectualism is wasted when it is only focused on destroying the fabrics of humanity.

Our democracy is practically fifteen (15) years and it is the duty of all and sundry to preserve it no matter the teething problems we are facing. However, the likes Fani-Kayode must be denied the opportunity of further endangering our democracy. This man was the harshest critic of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He never allowed the then President a breathing space until he was appointed into his government. When he was shunted aside by President Jonathan he romanced the northern political class in pursuit of personal ambition. Is this a man any Nigerian should take serious? Where is the humanity in this man? Must life be perpetually anchored on continuous realignment of the stomach at the expense of the interest of all citizens?

Finally, the APC must not take the ranting of the likes of Fani-Kayode lightly. The man is aware that he is operating in an environment where the perception of logic and reality is functioned on tribe, religion and self-interest. The party should allow freedom and internal democracy to reign supreme and shame its detractors. The 2015 election will not be a normal electoral process. It will be a battle of ideas and programmes hinged on positivity. The PDP through its “attack dog in chief” has fired the first shot and there is no going back. The APC can decide to operate under the old order of political communication and be doomed or face the challenge of the new order and prevail. There is no time for procrastination. The time to act is now.

Five State Governors including those of Oyo State, Imo State, Edo State and two others will accompany President Muhammadu Buhari to the United States when he meets President Barack Obama in Washington, DC on July 19th, 2015.

The five Governors are separate from an 18-man delegation made up of top aides and political associates of the President. The former Governor of Rivers State Rotimi Amaechi, the former Vice Presidential candidate to Buhari Tunde Bakare, and former member of the House of Representatives Farouk Adamu will be on the Presidential delegation.

In addition to these delegates, President Buhari will bring along top civil servants, representatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser, and representatives from economic policy and foreign affairs think tanks.

The Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency has set up a panel to investigate a music video released by Nigerian artiste, Davido, in which he displayed a substance suspected to be hard drugs.

The video of his track entitled, ‘Fans mi’, in which he featured an American rapper and member of the Maybach Group, Meek Mill, showed Davido with a briefcase filled with dollars and another bag filled with parcels of a substance suspected to be hard drugs.

The Director of Public Affairs of the NDLEA, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, told SUNDAY PUNCH on Saturday that the investigative panel might invite the hip-hop artiste for questioning if the need arose.

He said, “I am aware that a panel is working on it (the video). The panel was set up soon after the video was released few weeks ago.

“When our attention was drawn to it, we viewed it and we discovered that it was improper. There is no moral lesson in it and he was just advertising drug trafficking.

“In the video, he exchanged a brief case supposedly containing narcotics for dollars. He was displaying affluence in the video. If it (the plot) had climaxed in an arrest and possible detention, we would have congratulated him for partnering with us. But the way he portrayed drug trafficking in the video was a means to an end, which the end is a life of affluence which we disagree with.”

Ofoyeju said the anti-drug agency would conduct a full-scale investigation into the making of the video and to confirm whether it was censored before its release.

The NDLEA spokesperson further said, “We are looking at the issue holistically. We believe that there should be a body that was supposed to censor videos before they go out. Those are the things we want to investigate and verify. Was the video submitted for approval? If it was submitted, why was it approved, with such content?”

NDLEA had in June 2013 said controversial Nigerian actress, Tonto Dikeh, risked a minimum of 15 years in jail for encouraging the consumption of hemp.

Dikeh had on June 28, 2013, posted photographs of a wrap of hemp and grains of the weed formed into the letters, ‘Happy birthday POKO.’

She also posted a photograph of herself and added the inscription, ‘Mi smoke ganja mi smoke weed while my hatez smoke ma gossip.’

Her picture is a close-up of her face that seemed to depict her in a high state.

As a result, the agency said it was keeping tabs on more celebrities in Nollywood and the music industry for drug trafficking, abuse and links with drug cartels.

There are very strong indications that the Islamic sect Boko Haram has forged a strong operational alliance with the ruthless Islamic State (ISIS) as the two bodies have released a joint video for the first time on Saturday.

This is the first video recording since Boko Haram pledged allegiance to the Islamic State last year.

The video showed the picture of a suspected Nigerian soldier in a kneeling position surrounded by three terrorists with AK47 assault rifles. Later in the video, the body of the soldier was shown without the head.

The location of the action was not specified in the latest video.

Also, the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, did not speak in the video.

Mail Online reported that the audio message, which was entitled ‘kill and be killed,’ was read by an unidentified spokesman for ISIS.

The audio message released through the militants’ vast social media channels was read by an ISIS spokesperson who also threatened further violence against Christian and Jewish communities.

The video carried a West African insignia of the ISIS which indicated that the group has set up media wing in Nigeria.

The horrific pictures displayed in the video bore a striking similarity with the horrendous acts and scenes in ISIS videos.

The video also showed the insurgents in a battle against security forces who were not visible and did not return the fire of the enemy.

Our correspondent could not get the Director, Defence Information, Maj-Gen. Chris Olukolade to comment on the video.

However, Olukolade, who is believed to be outside the country, responded to a text message on the issue and referred our correspondent to the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. SK Usman.

SUNDAY PUNCH could not raech Usman to get his view on the video as calls to his mobile telephone line did not connect.

Also, Usman had not responded to a text message on the issue as of the time of filing this report on Saturday night.

However, a security operative in the mission said there had been no recent incident of Boko Haram attack and sacking of military formations in the North-East.

Obanikoro got support from all nook and crannies of Lagos State and he seriously put the All Progressive Congress (APC) goons in fear of losing Lagos State I must confess, he even had a strong team which is the #KoroNation you still hear of till today, but guess what, Koro went to court, and I was like “Finally” he sure would have gotten that mandate back from Jimi Agbaje but again this same Political Party the PDP deceived him again, had him take the case out of court with a promise of making him a Minister in Goodluck Jonathan’s administration and hello!! It was just Two Months to the General Election and gullible Obanikoro agreed (Maybe having faith like Moses that Goodluck Jonathan would win the presidential race), then I knew that Ambode of the APC would definitely triumph at the polls because Jimi Agbaje couldn’t pull much crowd like Obanikoro did no matter what (I still stand to be corrected though), Jonathan forwarded Obanikoro’s name as a Ministerial Candidate to the Senate, I now knew that Koro wasn’t getting that position because the Senate was divided (The APC and the PDP) but after a lot of tussle the Senate President gave it to him because he was a fellow party member, Jonathan now pronounced Obanikoro as Minister of Foreign Affairs State, that was literally nothing for a man who was vying to be The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Oh my.
And yes! The gullible Koro had no choice I guess, he just wanted an opportunity to regain that which he lost during the Campaigns and so on.
I supported the APC for presidency but supported Koro till he lost the primaries, At least that’s what the PDP wanted and koro danced to their tune of deceit. What a perfect show of shame, maybe Koro enjoyed being deceived after all, well it’s none of my business.
