Sports / Is Caf Delaying Announcement To Help Nigeria? by ujoinme1: 9:11pm On Nov 13, 2014
This is a write-up from the future – two days from now to be exact – when Nigeria will be announced 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosts.

We've been waiting and waiting to hear where exactly Africa’s biggest football tournament will be taking place from January 17 to February 8 next year. Two months to kick off and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) still doesn't have an answer for us.

Original hosts Morocco asked for a postponement over Ebola fears. CAF stood firm, said the show will go on and responded by stripping Morocco of the hosting rights as well as kicking them out of the competition altogether.

So where to then?
Ghana said: "No thanks."
South Africa, home of the last showpiece and a replacement host for Libya even then, said it was too expensive to do it again.

Angola, the 2010 hosts, confirmed they weren't interested despite stadiums and a huge fan-base already in place. Lack of time was cited as one of the main reasons.

The ongoing delay

CAF's chiefs are meeting in Cairo right now where they are plotting a way forward. It's a headache, I can only imagine.

Part of me feels sorry for the custodians of African football. Part of me doesn’t.

Initially, African football chiefs were going to announce their plan B on November 11 which is late as it is. CAF had confirmed that there were a few nations interested in hosting this competition. On D-Day, however, they needed more time to decide and swiftly retreated to the deliberation room.
“Give us three more days," they shouted from behind closed doors. “We promise we'll tell you in three days."
The theory
There's a very interesting dynamic at play here which might explain CAF's hesitance to tell us where the competition will be held.
Nigeria's Super Eagles are the reigning champions. Their poor run of form in the ongoing qualifying event means they probably won't even make it to ... *insert mystery destination here* given the current situation.

But it won't be the first time African champions haven’t qualified to defend their crown. Egypt has also been there before.
But for Nigeria and the football crazy nation, there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel.

A life-line *Insert dramatic conspiracy theory music*.

Nigeria play a make-or-break qualifier against Congo this weekend. Falter there and their hopes of defending their title are over.
Unless... *fade dramatic music and insert something upbeat and happy* Nigeria are magically announced as the Africa Cup of Nations hosts.
This way, they will be able to compete as hosts and stand a chance of defending their title.
It would certainly explain why CAF needs just a few more days before announcing Plan B.
In the face of constant delays from the suits at CAF headquarters, and in the absence of a definitive answer, all we can do is speculate. And this stands as good a reason as any (there aren’t many out there).
Meanwhile, I am packing my bags for Nigeria. Because despite CAF's nonsensical way of doing things, African football still needs my support.

APC blackmailing and propaganda will not get you near aso rock or the hiltop mansion in Akwa Ibom State, What will get to there is delivering world class infrastructure like this that will create jobs for the people and improve their lives: Jobs created at the stadium includes events staff( security, orderlies, ticket sales, valet, etc) technical jobs( sound engineers, video tech, photographers, etc) Sales( different concessionaire, retail - popcorn, minerals, beers, groundnut, food etc) Intangibles the oppurtunity of Nigerians to use a world class facility to produce athletes that will make our country proud! What has the APC delivered?

What has APC done for Nigeria? If their leaders are on the media all they do is complain and blame others for their inabilities, When PDP is on the media they list their projects and how they are changing the situations of their state and country! the difference is clear.

This is not A hospital that was commissioned without a single bed, furniture or access road by an APC governor, nor An incomplete road built with state funds( tax Payer) money that the taxpayers them self has to pay toll to access the road. Double taxation is the hallmark of APC. In Akwa Ibom Roads are not tolled and hospitals are equipped before they are commissioned.

This is not a N50 million bed for govt house nor an 8mw generator for 20 million people that APC is known for . Its a world class infrastructure delivered by the peoples governor, And the Chairman of PDP gov's Forum.for the use of Akwa Ibom citizens and Nigerians in general.

Since APC minions have decided to discuss The prestigious Akwa Ibom Stadium, I have also resolve to use this oppurtunity to bring to all Nairalaner in this forum exclusive footages of the stadium so that we can put the stadium in pespective for APC minions, peradventure their governors/paymasters will take a cue from this world class infrastructure and start delivering same in their respective states instead of delivering N50 million bed in govt. houses and commissioning 8MW generator for 20 million people, and calling it power plant

You are all welcome enjoy the thread.

List the propaganda against your master, Akpabio?

my interest is to expose you for the blackmailer and propagandist that you and your ilk are, Aso rock and the hiltop mansion is not for blackmailers like you.

I am too smart to engage in argument with dredge like you least i be dragged down to your level. You will keep seeing the beautiful images of this stadium and the stadium will continue to haunt you until you confess that good is not evil. You better repent for hate can only bring evil into your life while love on the other hand will bring you peace.

Those who thrive in calling good evil and evil good are not worthy to be in the helms of affairs of this country. This is the hallmark of APC. calling good evil will not make it so no matter how you scream it. APC paid to post minnions keep jumping to the drop of your masters coin.
