Webmasters / Re: Does Anyone Knows How To Run Java And Asp.net Script Wampserver? by uken73(m): 3:46am On Aug 11, 2014 |
Joel3: Does anyone knows how to run java writing script and asp.net script source code on wampserver? You have things mixed up. WAMP is an Apache web-server designed/configured to be used along with PHP and MySQL. Apache Tom Cat is what is commonly used with Java Servlets and Java Server Pages (JSP). Standard Apache can also be used and I believe WAMP should also work Servlets & JSP, but it may require more effort to setup. If you want to work with ASP or ASP.NET, then you would be using IIS which comes with most versions of Windows Operating system as an optional component that can be installed if desired. And mind you, if you choose to install IIS you must enable ASP or ASP.NET support which by default is not enabled and you must have dotnet framework installed too. It's been a while since I last deed anything serious with Java so I won't remember how to setup a server for Java web development. You can google that but following is steps to setup IIS for .NET web applications as I had documented it for a client some time back. To install IIS. 1. Go to the Control Panel 2. Launch Add/Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Vista & Win 7) 3. Click on Turn Windows Features On or Off on the left sidebar. (Win XP) may require Win XP Installation CD. 4. Check the attached diagram for more guidance. Beside the features that are enabled by default, make sure that the features enabled in the diagram are enabled on your system. Note: the pic here is from win7, Other windows systems should look similar. Emphasis here includes IIS 6 Management Compatibility, IIS 6 Management Console, IIS 6 Metabase and IIS 6 Configuration Compatibility, IIS Management Console, IIS Management Service, .NET Extensibility, ASP.NET etc. 5. Having enabled necessary options, click ok. If you had IIS installed prior to installation of .NET framework, you will need to register ASP.NET for IIS. The ASP.NET IIS Registration tool (Aspnet_regiis.exe) is used to register ASP.NET applications with Internet Information Services (IIS). To register ASP.NET for IIS (For .NET Framework 4.0) 1. Open the command prompt (Start menu>All Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt) 2. Type or copy and paste the following line (use right-click>paste on the command prompt window) cd %windir%\microsoft.net\framework\v4.0.30319\ 3. Press Enter 4. Type or copy and paste the following line: aspnet_regiis.exe -iru 5. Press Enter That would enable .NET Framework 4.0 for your IIS installation 1 Like 1 Share

Politics / Re: Has The Power Situation Improved Since It Was Sold? by uken73(m): 2:28am On Aug 11, 2014 |
From December last year power has seriously improved on my street. If summed up, power we used to have would be equivalent to 3 months ration only distributed for a year, but since December last year we have about 12 to 16 hours of power most days with few instances of one or two days without in a month and once over a month of low voltage. It's amazing. 8 Likes |

Programming / Re: How Do You Browse The Net On Linux Or Unix? by uken73(m): 10:18pm On Aug 10, 2014 |
In the past when playing about with Linux & Windows on the same network I had used joined Linux machines to the windows network and shared files through Linux SMB. I also shared the Internet connection on a windows machine through the network adapter and the Linux machines were able to browse. I still use this concept sometimes to share the Internet connection on my PC with my android phone. The same idea has been useful in allowing me test run web apps for responsiveness on my android which would connect to the testing server which is my development machine. I've never tried accessing a modem directly on a Linux machine. Major issue is going to be the drivers. |

Nigeria has always been a major contributor if not the highest contributor to African Peace. Excluding Nigeria may only be because we are seen as capable and they are trying to help others to their feet so that they can contribute too. This may be the idea behind this. **********Edit We don't have to always see things about Nigeria in the negative. 16 Likes |

chino24: Some of the pictures that I captured. Below is a corp member that I met during our monitoring in oshogbo.. Though the environment does not look good, these houses do not look like Mud houses. Looks like the houses were painted with orange or a darkened cream color which looks like mud, unless it's mud plastered with cement. Part of the walls towards the bottom clearly shows cement where rain has washed off part of the cement. |

Hmm. One should refuse to be affirmative on a particular thing that he/she is not sure of. What's wrong with avoiding an outright promise what would make someone disappointed? Those words have their purpose for communication and they don't necessarily mean the user is a weak person. 7 Likes |

asalimpo: @uken Hey I'm not supporting what is happening. I'm only giving my own observation/explanation to what is going on. I'm a developer and I believe being cheap is not doing any good. But that's the reality and we have to face it. But one can still make it. You just have to be exceptional. For instance, we have a school management software (Prisec School Manager) and we face stiff competition just like every other product out there. I've even seen guys on Nairaland offering school management software for about 20k only. That amount can't even cover our cost of providing support for one school. Ours is not cheap. But we are able to sell even to some schools that already had another software solution. When they compared the cheaper school management software they are using to what we are offering, they dumped the other to get ours. There's even one client who had initially chosen another product because it was cheaper, but after a term, they dumped it and got ours. And there is one product that is exactly the same price as ours, which a client dumped and another client that was also dumping a product received proposals for our product along with a proposal for the same other product (which is promoted by a publishing giant whose books are used by virtually all schools in the country), but the client went for our product. There would always be cheap software and free ones. But when you are good at what you do, you will still sale. That is the point I'm making. You just forget about the cheap products and do your thing. Clients who understand the idea of getting value for their money would understand that a good product is worth paying for. |
