Family / Re: Crazy Things You Did As A Kid by uncleb(m): 12:29pm On Apr 13, 2010
I was in JS 3 and we just had my grandpa's burial, you know the yoruba stile, "Aso ebi". So the day after grandpa's burial, I, my friends and some of my cousins went to the stream "EVERY BODY IN ASO EBI". We had been warned never to swim in that stream again because some people used to fetch water from there, but you know teens.

So, as we were swimming i just heard one voice "Well done my Children". By the time i looked up, it turned out to be one elderly man, he was so popular in my town and everybody feared him. He was a notable leader of oro worshippers (dont know if he is still alive anyway). Sighting him with a cain I just screamed yeee. Everybody ran out of water, with only our panties on and we took to our heels. Meanwhile, we had hidden our clothes in the bush, unknown to all of us, one of my cousins headed to where we hid our clothes and carried them only for him to be intercepted by the man, the man shouted at him and out of fear he dropped the clothes. Practically naked, no boxer, no singlets but only panties, the man threatened to burn our clothes. We begged him but he would not listen

Suddenly, one of us brought a suggestion, someone should pretend he's dumb, while everybody prostrate, he should be mumbling perhaps the man would consider him and return our clothe. So, one of my cousin who is full of pranks started gesticulating and demonstrating as if he was truly dumb while we were all begging. ( I wish there was a video clips of the scenario). The man actually believed he was dump and even pitied him saying " E ma wo eleyi odi yi ti o nfarawe awon ti won pe, tomi ba fe gbe lo bawo ni awon eniyan yoo se gbo nkan ti on wi ( meaning look at this dump comparing himself with people who are complete and endangering his life, how can people hear him in case he's getting drowned and calls for help)but that would not make him return our clothes. This lasted for close to an hour, we were following the man and pleading.

As we got very close to town, we spotted a distant relation and we decided to engage him. He was a drummer and used to drum for the man during their festival; thus we were sure he would listen. Gues what? The one who pretended to be dump was the first to speak out " BABA E JOWO E BAWA BEWON KI WON FUN WA NI ASO WA" meaning, father please help us to beg him to give us our clothes. The man ( who had seized our clothes) could not believe as he exclaimed "IWO ODI, IWO ODI, ASE O LE SORO " (meaning you dump, you dump, so u can talK) Everybody bursted into laughter.

Anyway, we got our clothes but that did deter us, we kept going until some1 saw me and reported to mama. I got the beating of my life .

Politics / A Promise From Nigerioa Police Boss by uncleb(m): 7:51pm On Sep 18, 2009
Below is an excerpt from a speech by the Nigeria the Police boss.

"unscrupulous police officers would no longer have a place in the force. Onovo disclosed that a three-point agenda, — capacity building, adequate welfare package and intelligence-led policing — was being put in place to ensure that the Nigeria Police competed favourably with other police in the world"

I wonder what our leaders think of us"NIGERIANS". We have bunch of empty promises everyday.

The Yoruba people have a saying that "Omo ti yoo je asamu, kekere ni yoo ti ma jenu samu samu" meaning that whatever a child will be you get to know from his foundational days. And I ask, what major reformation can Oovo boast to have brought into the force since he assumed office?

"Our friends" (POLICE) are still busy extorting money from motorists, harrassing and molesting civilians is still the order of the day. Just a couple of days ago, we watch a police officer vandalising a motor car at Ikeja (just because the guy didnt park well) and ironically at thesame spot a fellow nigerian was dispossed of his laptop.

I cant forget an encounter with these devils in security uniform a couple of months ago, where i was beaten mercilessly leading to a dislocation at my right shoulder.
I couldnt believe my ears the comments about NPF by doctors in government hospital and I wept seriously for this nation.

If Tudor does not know the correlation between poverty satan , let him borrow the bible from someone and read jojn 10: 10

In addition, please be informed that every bad thing (poverty and sickness) originated from the devil.

If in doubt please pray to be poor for just one year and you will know how bad it is

However, i encourage you to continue in your disdain for Great men of God, sooner your reward will meet you then you will know say" kaki no be leather"

Its not the first time i have read this testimony but sth struck me when i went back to read his story.

I observed that George's lamentation and expression of frustration indicating his preparedness to give up was sent on february 4th 2008
and barely 54 days after his miracle job located him.
'
Dear people please lets learn to persevere and never give up for when u wanna give up your miracle is just at the door.

Cheers

Ribadu may have gone to the extremes in handling isseus.
He may have been partial and may have failed "Us" for not trying som powerful individulas like Babangida.
But Tafa Balogun can not cliam he did steal, neither can "ALAMISI" ur former oil governor claim innocence of the charges against him.

While it might be very though absolving Ribadu, I dont think he deserves what the power that be in the country is making him go through

ITS REALLY A BAD OMEN FOR THE NATION, AND I TELL YOU IT FURTHER ENCOURAGES CORRUPTION AND ENDANGERS NIGERI"S FUTURE.

What baffles me most is our honorable President's silence over this issue.

I think it high time he spoke out as an advocate of rule of law. I rest my case

cassidy:

let me give u an example with my wedding, my husband has lot of friends and well established ones whom he too has affected their life in more ways than one positively. when we were planning our wedding last year because he knew that if his friends get enough notification they will want to blow it out of proportionand he wanted a quite wedding, d first thing he said to me was that we were not goin to print invitation cards, that settled i tell u thursday preceeding the saturday we got married was when my husband sent messages to his friends at 1am so that there will be no room for any planning and the wedding went well.

so i assure u the only reason people have overcrowded wedding is when it is being annouced

Cassidy Your husband may have affected many people's lifes but how many can say of a truth he has touched their lifes positively.

Mind you it is not for u to say i have done this and that, let the beneficiaries testify themselves.
Religion / Re: Hurray! Pastor David Oyedepo (jnr) Wedding Today! by uncleb(m): 3:18pm On Jul 30, 2008
I cant just understand what the problems are with some people
Being a christian does not deprive anyone access to good things of life
as long as it is legitimate, does not harm your fellow human being nor offend God.

i remember sometimes last year when a governor's daughter got wedded in USA, numerous dignitaries traveled abroad to grace the occassion and am sure most went at the state govt expenses, they came back to nigeria, throwing a party for thesame wedding and nobody raised a dust. But its a crime for a pastor's son to wed.

I dont know where they h=got info that Pastor Adeboye wanted to buy a jet and they started wagging tongues, are there not several individuals who own private jets in nigeria, most of whom we know have no viable business other than stealing from what belongs to you and I, has anyone ever had the effrontery to speak publicly against them, how much less to confront them.

Be informed fellow nairalander that, speaking against a man of God is as bad as making him your enemy and do you know what that means? You are indirectly making yourself God's enemy.

So beware of the kind of comments u make against men of God

nigeria is not as bad as samaria, yet overnight God restored her glory , famine disappeared and they had abundance. Those that doubted it saw it happened but never benefitted of it.

If God can do that , i know there is hope for Nigeria.

As for me I know that I  it is well wt me in this land notwithstanding what is happening at present

But let me advise fellow nairaland to desist from speaking evil of men of God/prophet.
it is a very dangerous thing, it has serious repercusion, pls , i beg u dont incur the wrath of God upon urself by speaking ill of His anointed.

9star

learn to be your brothers keeper

whatever d forum is meant for; sport, romance or what have u, of what benefit is it if it doesnt enhance someeone's life?
thats why i bliv the end product should be solution

one is not being emotional, but when people share there plight, don't abuse or badmouth them

if u don't have solution to profer, just advise and if u don't have any advice, its not compulsory u reply.

I don't know who james is, but at least i know he is a human being and fellow nigerian
.

and if u understood the post very well, he's actually asking if there is wisdom in taking loan, and not asking anybody in the house to give him money  nor even lend him money.

so let be mindful of how we react to issues

nobody prays to hav prob , but we all face challenges and kud be u 2morrow
Properties / Re: Accommodation Problem by uncleb(m): 11:07am On Nov 30, 2007
james,

to me there is no problem in taking loan, as long as u hav a sure source of repayment.

as an accountant, taking loan is no big deal as long as i can judiciouslu use it

think of it u will be more comfortable and this can accellerate ur succes in ur prof exam and enhance ur chances for better job. so if a bank is willing to give u at a moderate interst rate, and the monthly repayment wont affect ur survival cool

but like others have said 180k is too much for a self contain acc alone except there are other inv to go to
