Nairaland / General / Shocking!! RCCG Youth Pastor Sentenced To Death ! by upwards: 9:15pm On Nov 23, 2016
A youth pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Akolade Arowolo, has been sentenced to die by hanging for the murder of his banker wife, Titilayo.

Pastor Arowolo could not hold back his pains after the court ruling, he burst into a fit of prayer. Titilayo worked with Skye bank, whilst her husband was employed. Prosecutors were able to present compelling evidence that led to the conviction of Mr Arowolo and his sentencing by Justice Lateefat Okunu of the Ikeja High Court, he was handed a death sentence. Justice Okunu held in her over three hours judgment that evidence before the court proved that Arowolo actually murdered his wife in their matrimonial home.

Testimony in the form of a forensic report from Prof. John Oladapo Obafunwa, a pathologist, was what the court used to determine that there was no way the deceased could have stabbed herself to death. Immediately after the judgment, Arowolo fell down in the dock and started shouting “Jesus have mercy.” PM News reports that Prof Obafunwa testified that his autopsy report revealed that Titilayo was killed through 76 knife stab wounds.

There were claims by Pastor Arowolo, suggesting that his wife was possessed and inflicted injuries on herself. He noted that the knife wounds affected Titilayo’s left eye, right eye, upper chest area, right chest and collar bone. Prof. Obafunwa pointed out in his testimony that the deceased could not have inflicted such wounds on herself. To further prove its case, prosecution invited some of Titilayo’s family members who testified that Arowolo and Titilayo had always had a troubled marriage.

The family members included Titilayo’s father, George Oyakhire; sister, Ijeh and mother-in-law, Mrs Adetoun Yeside Oyakhire. The three witnesses testified that the couple lived a cat and mouse life. They claimed that the family had at several times, settled serious fights between the couple. None of the witnesses however saw what actually happened on the day Titilayo died

The Herald reports that Arowolo’s co-tenant, Adewale Adeyemi also gave evidence in the case. Arowolo’s parents testified that their son was incapable of murder

Adeyemi in his evidence said that on the day of the incident he heard a loud noise when he was in his apartment and later saw Arowolo rushing out with a deep cut in his palms. He claimed to have also seen a hammer and a knife with a broken handle in the yard. Other witnesses such a the security man at the Arowolos’ residence, Investigating Police Officer and an MTN Staff also gave evidence in the case.

Youth PastorArowolo broke down in tears, after the judge handed him the death sentence, he had claimed he was innocent of killing his wife. Having presented its case, the burden was shifted on Arowolo to defend himself.

Expectedly, Arowolo had his personal explanation as to what happened on the day Titilayo died. First, he claimed that he and his deceased wife had passionate sex for two hours and kissed on the same day she died.

He claimed that Titi stabbed herself to death on the day after they had a fight. Arowolo claimed that Titilayo was possessed by an evil spirit and inflicted several stab wounds on him before turning to herself. Arowolo’s father, Mudashiru and mother also testified of their son’s good behavior, insisting he could not have killed his wife.

They claimed that he has always been a religious person and was incapable of killing.

Politics / Faceoff: Tinubu Bombs Buhari, Says “you Didnt Merit To Be President' by upwards: 6:33am On Oct 04, 2016
While receiving a segment of APC chieftains from South West who paid him a secret solidarity visit late yesterday evening after keeping them waiting for over 5 hrs, (from 5pm to 10 pm before seeing them) Tinubu lashed out I regret building APC and giving Buhari a platform to become president.
“We all knew he didn’t merit to be president, but you know how we politicians behave when we are desperate for electoral position; We beg.
That was how President Buhari always and frequently came to my private house here in Ikoyi with his entourage which included that Nasiru and others.
At a point, he “Buhari” was practically living in my house, under my roof. The room he was sleeping was just 6-7 steps from my own private room. I was building his confidence because he didn’t have it. He was even scared of Atiku and Rabiu.

What I ate, he ate. My security was his security because he expressed fears about the security provided by the Jonathan government. He was afraid of Jonathan.
Now they occupy Aso Rock and they think Asiwaju Tinubu is finished. He is using people I brought from obscurity against me. Now they say my mouth is smelling. They say I’m no longer relevant. The battle line is drawn, I will show them the meaning of Asiwaju.
I know they have surrounded my house. They are there outside. You can’t see them but I know where they are. I see them, but I am not afraid of them. They know that.
When asked, “what next?” by one of the loyalists, who said “what do we do now?”.
Tinubu replied; “Don’t worry, just watch. Time will tell, I built this party and I can destroy it, but for now I vow, PDP most win Ondo state.
Recall 2011, when Tinubu and Buhari alliance failed:
“For an alliance to work, you must give and take; you must make sacrifices; it is unfortunate that some Nigerians are so self centered and have no patriotic desire to sacrifice anything for the nation. ………… Tinubu said this about Buhari 2011

Nairaland / General / Sad Scenes From The Service Of Songs For Murdered Evangelist by upwards: 8:08am On Jul 23, 2016
The service of song for the slain evangelist of the Redeem Christian Church of God held on Friday, July 22. The atmosphere was cold, even as people wept their hearts for the murdered pastor’s wife. Mrs Eunice Olawale met with an untimely death on Saturday, July 9. Below are some photos that tell the sad story and the situation at the service of song for the 42-year old mother of 7 who was hacked down by suspected Islamic extremists.

Distraught husband Olawale Elisha tried to recall all the details of that fateful day when his wife was hacked to death. Mr olawale said: “It was about 6: 30 to 7am. I was in bed, but I had woken up, from sleep. My children approached me and said that some footballers were discussing about a woman who was killed while she was preaching.” He immediately rushed to his phone and began calling his wife but her phone was switched off. “We (Olawale and his daughter) strolled down to the place, about two or three hundred meters away from our house and we saw people gathered. We passed through the place where she had been murdered, but we did not know. We came back again and saw a police man.

The officer confirmed what we had been told but said we should go to the Phase 4 police station. At that time, my daughter whose name is Jessica was already crying, but I tried to cheer her up and told her that the murdered preacher could not have been my wife. As we were entering the station gate, we saw a police van coming out of the station. My daughter looked back and saw something at the back of the police van and suddenly she cried. I then turned back and saw that part of my wife’s body was covered; from the chest upward.

So we began to cry,

Properties / Houses To Be Demolished In Ajah, Eti-osa For The Proposed 4th Mainland Bridge by upwards: 1:07am On May 26, 2016
Following the signing of MOU for the construction of the 4th Mainland Bridge, the Lagos State Government yesterday disclosed that 2,200 houses will be saved from demolition with the new alignment designed for the construction of the proposed 4th Mainland Bridge.

Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure Ganiyu Johnson said the old alignment for the bridge was to claim over 3,000 houses which would mean huge economic losses to the economy.

He said with the new design, about 800 houses will now be affected, adding that the affected owners would be compensated by the government.

He explained that the when constructed would drastically reduce traffic volume on Eko, Cater and Third Mainland Bridges.

According to him, “The proposed bridge will traverse from Ajah to North West direction towards the lagoon shoreline to Lagos-Ibadan Expressway via Ikorodu. The approximate length of the road/bridge is 37.9km with a design speed of 140km/h.

“Lagos State Government has held discussions with a consortium of consultants in furtherance of the project,” said the commissioner. He further explained that the significance and value of the project, saying “this lies in its capacity to rapidly decongest the traffic gridlock within the Lekki corridor and redistribute traffic towards Lagos Mainland which serves to meet increased future road infrastructure demands.”
He attributed the delay on the ongoing work at Badagry express way to paucity of funds, adding that Julius Berger, the construction firm handling the Lot I between Eric Moore to Mile 2, will finish the median lanes and hand over by August this year while CCECC to which the Lot II as awarded will continue construction in phases towards Agbara.

He added that the state government initiated a study to upgrade the network of roads in Ikeja to improve and boost the economic stature of the seat of government to word-class standard commensurate with other capital cities and also to reduce to the barest minimum, traffic gridlock along the corridor.

“This will involve the expansion of Awolowo Way with an elevated highway from the Airport Hotel to Alausa to decongest the traffic gridlock along Allen Round-about, Kudirat Abiola Round-about and Agidingbi Round-about. There will also be an expansion of the Allen/Opebi Road to Odo Iya-Alaro via a link bridge at Ogudu to the 3rd Mainland Bridge.

These networks of roads when upgraded will boost the economic activities in Ikeja being the seat of government,” the commissioner said.
