@Pretty4rill

Forget about buying a blender or any kitchen gadgets from the states,we are on a different power voltage ,( USA is 110 while UK,NIGERIA IS 220 to 240 volts). It wont work here unless connected to a special adapter.

There is always fake of everything ,that is why you have to be careful when buying,i got most of my kitchen gadgets from the UK because of this and almost everything i have there is KENWOOD brand.

You can try and order from the UK instead of the United states.

Hello Ladies , i'm so glad to read about all the good news on here. i dont come often to the health section , but when i do come i like to read this

My sister in law whom i did mention here
on pages 44,244 and 277 of this topic has just started her pills ,she and her hubby

have started their journey for the next baby.(her first was one year old some months back).

i did say i was going to find out what
the name of the fertility medication she used was called its Organic Cassava Root,by Forever Blessed.

i thought it was made by Forever living products ,but unfortunately its not .The pill is available in the states and she gets hers from her lady friend here in Nigeria,if any one wants to know more and how the pill works, you can send her an email. organicfruitfuls@gmail.com

i am so glad that something so natural can do what clomid and the rest does ,with out playing with your entire body system.

My sister in-law had a lot of other health issues, surgeries and medications and was really fed up before she started on the organic thing,i really felt for her when i came here to seek for help for her.

i've started praying for her now and i know she and everyone else here will receive their bundle of Joy soon.

Pretty4ril: Which blender product is good for blending or grinding beans. I've bought like 3 different products, the first 2 is spoilt and can't grind beans d 3rd one now kenwood I bought at shopright is burnt. Pls someone shld tell me d best.

KENWOOD BURNT!!!? unbelievable, ok , first of all i am not trying to discredit any store here, but two things i have to say here .... . Its either you got a sub standard KENWOOD blender from shoprite (in other words ..a fake one), or You killed the Blender your self by not moderating the way you blend with it and what you blend with it including Beans.

Below on the left is a picture of my KENWOOD blender i got from John Lewis ( in the UK). I have been using it for about two years now and it has had no issues what so ever. I also blend beans with it and i will explain later how i use it for this purpose.

Not with standing the fact that i got mine abroad, the KENWOOD BLENDER my folks have at home ,and its been used for over four years now , and i am quite sure it was bought from a store here in Nigeria ,has been good with no problems considering they blend everything on earth with it.

Have it in mind that the blender is not a commercial one and can only be used at home for a little quantity of beans at a time.

Here's how.

you need to make sure your beans has been soaked hours or even over night before you blend it ,after taking out the back of course, this will ensure that it is soft enough for the blades of the blender to blend. You don't want to stress that machine.

then take a hand full or a cup full of the beans and pour into the blender along with your chopped pepper, chopped onions and the rest,
( you have to chop everything that goes in ).

This is the tricky part , before you cover it up, add warm water( may be half of the cup depending on the quantity of the beans you just poured in, then cover it up.

On the machine ,start with the first level to mix everything in and watch to see if it needs more water while you stop and start the machine again. (which it often does) .Then slowly pour in some water through the dispenser as it blends.

Once the consistency of the beans is now rough and everything is mixed , then you can move up to the button on the next level, you have to watch the beans in the jug to see if it still needs more water, this will depend on the consistency you want for your beans .

slowly add some more water through the dispenser again while the blender is still blending.

(the reason why water is added while the blades are still rotating ,is to prevent the water from going to settle at the bottom of the jug, this will help the mixture blend smoothly with out damaging your machine).

when you are done , pour the blended beans out and repeat the same method for the next batch...i will suggest that you make not more than three batches, like i said earlier , the machine may not be strong enough for heavy usage.

Don't forget to do the stop and start interval at every stage.

I hope this helps.

i'm just curious to know why people are always standing in long queues just to buy some pastries at their Deli, and why some go as far as fighting on the queue over the same pastry.
considering the fact that SHOPRITE opened up in Nigeria for the first time many years ago, one would think that over time this would stop.

sisi london:

Seems to me like u r actually lukn to make d@ a career for urself lol! Plz don't if u don't know what it entails cos it is an ART

More importantly you have to be passionate about being a PS,(i.e being creative with clothes, colours and accessories).

i have come to realise that most stylists who have really made it in their career as a PS was through their various work and display on the celebrity figures and non celeb clients. In other words ,if as a PS you have transformed or styled someone whom everyone sees their outfit as breathe taking , then your work will evidently speak for itself hence the more exposure you get and of course more jobs for you.

Having said this , some stylist often start off styling them selves and making every thing they have work. From old sweaters , ripped jeans , grandma's scarf ( which could be regarded as vintage), in fact anything. In this case you could refer to this particular stylist as being talented and having a raw natural talent at making any clothes look beautiful on any body,No matter the challenge ( body type , colour of the clothes e.t.c) any form of challenge.

@OP

To answer your question .
i love styling people , but its just a hobby, ( still have my day job tongue),some times i get paid for it and most times its a favour. Being the last of 6 kids i had a lot of ''hand me downs '' which i often converted to look great on me ,making my siblings wonder what they were thinking when they got rid of their clothes by giving them to me in the first place tongue

Well i would listen to sisi london's advice if you are about to take this up as a full career, the prospects of making it profitably are so-so, especially here n Nigeria, i would suggest you start off part time if you already have a job or you're still in school.

Finally ... It is very rewarding , for me , i just like to see opulence and that is the satisfaction i get.
people admiring your clients and at the beautiful piece of work on display ,and knowing it was you who accomplished all that.

Onyinyechimara: No offence to all the celebrity stylists out there ( and non- celebrity ones as well.....lol)

I just want to understand what it means when someone calls them self a stylist in an African or Nigerian context

I understand that you make people look good

But how is that different from someone who owns a boutique and sells clothes?

When celebrities say they only work with one stylist what do they mean?

Is that the same as having a personal tailor?

I know that some of the clothes these people wear are ready made

So does that mean the celebrity gives stylist money to buy the dress

OR the less believable option that they get the clothes on credit and hope the celebrity will pay back later??

In this present day Naija, very unlikely , people naturally find it hard to pay back stuff given on credit ( yes even celebrities)

How on earth does a stylist make money?? Is is just another name for tailor / boutique owner??

Just curious. Sensible replies welcome. Cheers

Ok First off ,there are different types of stylists . E.g Hair stylist (caters for your hair) ,and you have the Personal stylist who most of the time, is in charge of both wardrobe ,make-up ,and hair for their clients (celebrity or non-celebrity clients)

Many times you tend to see people dressing for an event/occasion with out putting into consideration the ''dress code'' for that particular event.
For instance...You've been invited to a presidential Ball or Dinner, whether you are a celebrity or a street walker ,you're not expected to be seen in skinny jeans,or a skimpy night out dress.
Or the event could be a black tie event and you are showing up in a double breasted business suit and long tie,or posing with your half buttoned up coloured shirt and no tie... yeeaa.. i'm talking to you guys, male ,men,(shakes head... undecided). You need to get with the program. Not all suits are for every occasion.

Now, if you do ask a fashion designer to send you an outfit for that occasion ,you have to have it in mind that the designer may send you an outfit they either want to promote,or something that is unique to your sense of style, and this is where your personal stylist comes in .

The PERSONAL STYLIST works with an outfit by providing the right co-ordination ,the personal stylist will pick the right shoes for the dress, the personal stylist will work with your demands and pick certain items you want to go with the dress he or she has picked up for you from the designers, the personal stylist will go with your mood for the night,or for that particular occasion .( For instance if you're looking to have your hair dyed red or dyed blonde for the event ,the PS will find a good hair stylist to give you the right shade of hair colour that will compliment your skin tone, eyes, and even the colour of dress you have picked) with out creating a hot mess.

If you are looking to show off some skin(for the ladies) while still wearing an eye catching dress , the PS will ensure you are showing the right amount of skin in the right places with out going over board, that is why you tend to see some clothes on the run-way by designers but when you see the same dress/outfit on a celebrity ,it has been altered .The PS picks up the dress from the designers, the client puts it on and then the PS Job is to see where the dress is less flattering on the client and then have the dress sent back for modification.

When picking a dress or having one made ,the PS ensures that his/her client is dressed ''age appropriately'', If you are attending your daughter's/Son's graduation, the job of the PS is to find an outfit (whether from your closet, designer outlets e.t.c) that will be age appropriate for you (you don't want to take all the spot light by being the one people are congratulating at the graduation). Or it may be that you have been chosen to give a speech at conference/symposium,and you can't seem to distinguish between a formal or a semi-formal outfit for this,This is the Job of the PS.

This is just a tip of the ice berg when it comes to the Job Description of a PS. A Personal stylist's job is quite tasking, because you don't just slap on an outfit on your clients body, you are working with every thing in mind- Your clients figure, colour, height, mood, and the event itself before you begin to work on a dress in order to achieve a flawless look for your client.

Lastly the PS is paid for their job by the client , this could be by the hour or as agreed or negotiated between both parties. The Client is financially responsible for any purchase made ,be it the dress, shoes, or even the fees of others like the make up artist e.t.c.

Hey ladies,

Just started my long hair journey too. Call me over ambitious - but I'm aiming at Mid back length tongue (Bra hook length)by the end of this year.

trimmed my ends middle of may , did my last relaxer in the beginning of February, just did my first Texlaxing ( relaxing the new growth only for 3 minutes while I applied deep conditioners to the sectioned ends that are already relaxed, and then wash off)

the picture on the right in the pink straps was after I trimmed the ends in may. the picture on the left was taken last week.

You need to see my bathroom
I am now officially a hair product junkie, But not to over load my hair with junk as this may be too much for the hair ,I use moisturizers and oils mostly everyday.. ( olive oil,Almond Oil or Coconut Oil) to seal in the moisturizer.

Fashion / Re: How Do I Use Coconut Oil To Stop Hair Breakage by uzoo: 1:51pm On Jun 16, 2013
onnari :
Coconut oil is great for hair wet or dry, and doesn't have side effects, what you should be using to stop breakage is doing tea rinses. Ppl use tea or coffee but tea is better I.e green or black tea. Boil some water like 2 or 3 glasses, put in about 4 teabags and brew. Allow to cool, and rinse uR hair by pouring and repouring(u could use a pitcher or jug to catch the tea). Wear a shower cap and leave on for 45mins to an hour DO NOT GO UNDER A DRYER! Jst do ur regular biz around d house. When time elapses, rinse off, moisturize. Constant heat aint gud fr hair n air drying is normally better so u cld try air drying some times. Tea rinses stop breakage perfectly.
Ps- u don't have to wash off coconut oil frm ur hair. When u apply, leave it in. Other oils to try are castor oil and olive oil. They do wonders and don't exclude shea butter (ori). U could even put ur ori in a plastic bottle n place in a bowl of hot water so it melts, and u apply as oil.

You are definitely right about the Tea Rinse. I do a tea rinse once or twice a month and its usually immediately after I do my Co- Wash,( washing with a conditioner not shampoo)I pour the entire thing on my hair , and when I comb through I wont find more than 3 strands on the comb compared to few months back when it will be a handful (this was before I started the tea rinse).

I Use 3 ballerina Herbal tea, I brew two bags , cos I've got really full and coarse hair.

@Godmother

this is how to use coconut oil.

after washing your hair with a conditioner , let it dry out( don't use heat dryers)

then apply a moisturizer ( it could be a water based one like 911 LEAVE IN CONDITIONER, or JUST FOR ME DETANGLING CONDITIONER, or ORGANIC ROOTS SHEA BUTTER DETANGLING MOISTURISER )

apply mostly at the ends then gradually work your way down and massage.

to seal in the moisturiser and prevent dryness which is what causes the breakage you apply COCONUT OIL TO THE HAIR AT TH ENDS.

Do this at least 3 times a week.

You can also do the tea rinse every 2 or 3 weeks. depending on how much of your hair is breaking.

Hope this helps.

you use a sunscreen, you could be doing something worse than throwing your money away. You could be risking your health.

Sunscreen’s Dirty Secret

Little Tyler seemed like a healthy 12-year-old. Full of energy, she played outside with her brother and friends every day.

But then she began complaining about feeling achy “all over” – especially in her legs. After months of worry, doctors finally identified the culprit. Every day, before Tyler and her brother went out to play, their mother applied a layer of sunscreen.

The sunscreen kept Tyler’s body from making the vitamin D she needed, and her bones were turning weak and soft.13

I've seen many patients like Tyler at my clinic and it's a shame... the number of children and adults with low vitamin D levels has sky rocketed due to sunscreen use. And this has caused a huge jump in bone problems and other health issues.14

That’s why I created Solis – so you can get the vitamin D you need and the sunscreen power you want.

Because most sunblock products contain ingredients that can increase the damaging effects of the sun’s rays!

i guess As a child ,parts of your body is still developing and the child is still growing hence the disruption in the vitamin production when sun screens are used.

Not when you are in your late twenties or older and everything is beginning to shed and go down south and your skin needs to be protected from UVA rays.

Even Dermatologists recommend using a sunblock daily as you age gracefully.
