Politics / Re: FG Permit States To Explore Solid Minerals In Their Domains by VANHELLSING: 3:40pm On Jan 14, 2016
ChristStriker:
From Dennis Mernyi, Abuja

NIGERIA’S 36 states can now individually explore and exploit mineral deposits in their domains, provided they go about the exercise in manners that will not interfere with locations already given to other stakeholders, Mines and Steel Development minister, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has disclosed.

Fayemi, while acknowledging that the Federal Government enjoys exclusive rights to mine minerals across the country, noted that the constitution encourages states to either set up their own investment corporations or partner private investors to exploit minerals in their domains.

He disclosed this in Abuja, while playing host to the Lagos State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Wale Oluwo, who led a team from the state to make some requests before the Federal Government in respect of its minerals resources.

The commissioner identified the minerals in Lagos to include: limestone, silica, clay and a few other resources which abound in large commercial quantities in the country’s largest industrial hub.

According to him, “We estimate that we have limestone in the region of 12 million metric tonnes around the Epe area. We also estimate that we have silica sand of up to 200 billion cubic metric tonnes around the Ibeju-Lekki area. And the third one, which is clay, is about 180 billion cubic metric tonnes around the Lagos East.

“We’ve been carrying out various geological surveys, both aerial and on the ground, and we believe that data is key. So, when you are in a position to make that decision as to gathering data with respect to where solid minerals can be identified, we are assuring you that in Lagos, we will put our resources behind your efforts.”

Lagos is actually barren, if this is all they have as mineral resources. No wonder southwest insist on this accursed one Nigeria.

To those who accuse Buhari's administration of not patronizing innoson vehicles, here is picture proof that the present administration actually does. The only reason cars are bought from other manufactures is solely due to the fact that innoson has a problem with quick delivery Which I guess is no fault of the government. Innoson should increase his productivity speed by increasing his man power.... He shouldn't wait for the government to "dash" him money to fund his private business...

Politics / Re: The Crime Of Lagos State In Demolishing Oshodi Main Market by VANHELLSING: 8:20am On Jan 07, 2016
xtrorp:
“Karma comes after everyone eventually. You can't get away with screwing people over your whole life, I don't care who you are. What goes around comes around. That's how it works. Sooner or later the universe will serve you the revenge that you deserve.” - Jessica Brody

In Lagos under 'One Nigeria' there seem to exist a silent economic war of destruction of livelihood, burning of markets in the middle of the night, extortion and harassment of genuine businesses by official area boys and street urchins, illegal/multiple taxing of business owners, in markets where Igbos operate e.g. Tejuoso, Alaba International and Ladipo. And now Oshodi electrical & electronic market.

Many of these attracious deeds are conducted at odd times when the traders won't be available to resist the dastardly acts.

Over the decades in the South-West, the Yorubas have systematically burnt Igbo shops as a guise to hijacking the markets from Igbos.

They hide under the guise of city development at the expense of the people's welfare and claim they had given the traders ample time to relocate and yet the demolition is carried out at odd times. Even the proposed alternative shops are exorbitant and out of reach by the common man.

https://www.nairaland.com/2618835/hoodlums-shut-down-alaba-international

https://www.nairaland.com/2846885/tears-lagos-demolishes-oshodi-market

https://www.nairaland.com/2847088/photos-oshodi-electronic-market-demolished

Prior to the 2015 general elections, amidst the threat by the lagoon crooner to drown Igbos, 18 Chisco transport buses were criminally burnt down in Lagos and up till date nothing was done to bring the culprits to book.

What does 'One Nigeria' mean?
A deceit where you are empowered to share my crude oil and wealth as 'One Nigeria' while I am considered a migrant to your State whom you're just merely accommodating and may perish in the lagoon at your command.

It is a chaotic situation where the Oba of a place would invite the representative of a people for discussion in his palace as regards a market leadership dispute only to set an ambush for him and unleash hundreds of thugs to flog and disgrace him.

It is an unjust situation where you're licensed to use foul means to destroy my business in your State with outrageous taxes. You can close my business premises at will while your elites continue to shout 'One Nigeria' to cover up the evils and injustices prevalent in the land. And you still expect me to be docile and continue to suffer silently as your hate and envy for my progress soar high.

Now, do you have any case for unity - fake or imaginary?

If you have there would no need fooling and playing to the gallery and shouting 'One Nigeria'. Or have you ever heard 'One Great Britain', 'One United States of America', 'One Germany'?
That shows that something is fundamentally wrong which many have been shying away from.

Is it a crime for any person/group to choose to opt out of a relationship?

Strange bedfellows, with irreconcilable value systems that are at best suitable for the individual selves, are not meant to be together! The 102 years of existence attest to that verdict!

Victor Hugo once said "no army can stop an idea whose time has come" and that "one can resist the invasion of armies but not the invasion of ideas".

Nice input. The sad thing is that the matter is in court and there's court order baring the lagos government from destroying the market, but lag defy the court order by pulling down the market with goods inside it,quite sad and wicked.
I could remember, during fasholas era he tried to demolish the the market twice but was stopped by court and federal government led by GEJ, who told him that the piece of land in which the said market is built is federal government own, hence he should steer clear. Today we are in the era, were court injections are defied with impunity and reckless abandon.

One Nigeria is a deceit and any igbo that believes it is deluded.

We met in 1976, started working together in 1977 and we got married in 1979 after about three years of courtship.”Describing his wife, the Information Minister further said: "My wife has been very supportive; we have gone through a lot together. The APC governorship candidate in Bayelsa state has berated his party for abandoning
him, in the most critical time of his life.
Reacting to the statement by the presidency through the attorney general of the
federation; that INEC is an independent body, charged with the conduct of free and fair
elections and neither the President nor the attorney general can interfere in the activities
of the commission.
Sylva has accused President Buhari and the APC of playing Jonathan's script in Bayelsa
state.
" From the very day, I rejected the President's offer to serve as a minister and told him
I would want to run for the governorship seat, I knew they were up to something
sinister about Bayelsa state.
The APC and the President didn't want me to fly the party's flag. They wanted a weak
candidate, to make it easy for the PDP in Bayelsa state. All in a bid to compensate
former President Jonathan. And we know it! The event that played out during the
primaries confirms it all. But for the resistance shown by majority of APC members in
Bayelsa, Adams and his team would have had their way. The plot and hatred was even
extended to my fundraising dinner. They boycotted it and even asked others to do
same. Several appeals were sent to the President, but nothing worked.
It took the intervention of Amaechi and a few others for me to even raise money for
logistics. And that was after I painstakingly, made a case, that we need to win in
Bayelsa to prove a point, and ginger our supporters in the south-south. Failure of which
will mar our political fortunes in the region "
Recall that Sylva petitioned the Attorney General of the Federation to prevail on INEC to
declare him winner of the election in Bayelsa state.
Lamentation of a sore loser. Smh

Really? What is more nutritious than tomato and pepper stew? Are you joking? Ewedu is a power food. Then imagine ewedu, gbegiri and stew. What could be more healthy and nutritious? Ewedu is so powerful it helps with infertility. What about moi moi? That is the healthiest meal in Nigeria. Yoruba foods are the most healthy though some may cook with a lot of oil, but that is common with other southern tribes. Igbo's also eat raw palm oil and yam or with the ugba, and eat palm nut soup. which is the most unhealthy food anyone can eat. So what are you saying? Yoruba diet has a lot of vegetable, beans, legumes and the lightest swallows like Amala, Eko and Lafun. Then we have Ofada rice which is very very healthy. Cuisine also varies by the location, so we have so many types of foods by Yoruba group. We also eat mostly fish because of our access to the sea! Apart from Efiks when it comes to healthy food with a lot of vegetables, I think the crown goes to Yoruba's. And the food is just as tasty. No tribe can cook Egusi like the Yoruba's. This is not a boast. Just facts. You can praise your tribes food, but don't insult others.

One does not require mirror to see what he/she holds in the palm. If u are a lagosian, then u must have seen how yorubas and other tribe frequent igbo restaurants to enjoy igbo delicacies, why the contrary is case in yoruba run restaurant. To be candid and sincere, in all my years in lagos I'm yet to see an igbo person walk-in to a yoruba restaurant to eat any of their delicacy, while most yorubas i have come across have all confessed how they have fallen in love with igbo delicacy. Me, personally I'm yet to test any yoruba food. Food will have to appeal to ur sight first before u Desire it, which yoruba food does not, infact, it is irritating to an average easterner.

By the way why are we again this? Your kins man who is in a better position to know, has declared his finding and that should be final or are you the mechanic that claim to know the car better than the maker?.

THE BAYELSA ELECTION, A LESSON FOR THE IGBOS:
I have been following events in the Bayelsa state since Saturday and I think it's high time we Igbos woke up and learn our lessons. What is happening in Bayelsa state shows that the Bayelsans have moved on. They are no longer tied to the apron of PDP and GEJ. That state is one of the smallest states in the country and it's the home state of the former president (GEJ), yet the result of the election held since Saturday have not been announced officially till now. I thought the PDP would have swept off the whole votes just like they did during the presidential election, but to my amazement the APC is also gathering considerable votes there. I know PDP may eventually emerge winner in the election, but my point is that we Igbos should wake up and stop crying more than the bereaved cos even the bereaved have moved on.
Other regions have moved on and have even started integrating themselves into this PMB administration to ensure they remain relevant and not schemed out if things, while some of my people are still holding themselves down and throwing hate speeches here and there.
Other region are already preparing for 2019, some are already gearing up for 2023, while my people have failed to arise and shake off GEJ and his failed administration. By 2019 now, we will begin to run helter-skelter and start last minute preparation and when we loose again, we will say we are hated by others but we forget that we are the ones holding ourselves down now that others are already preparing ahead.
The Igbos have enjoyed more "juicy" appointments in the past 16 years of this democratic dispensation, yet none of the appointees or elected officials performed exceptional well for us to present him/her as presidential candidate. But look at the likes of Fashola, Fayemi, Kwakwanso, El Rufai, etc they are all potential presidential candidates going forward cos their achievements speak for them. Tell me the achievements of. Orji Uzor Kalu, T.A Orji, Sam Egwu, Chimaroke Nnamani, Mbadinuju, etc.... none of them made a mark in their various states, yet we leave them and keep pointing fingers to other regions and saying they are our problem.
I advise we wake up and begin to align ourselves strategically with other region now cos we can never produce a president in this country if we continue like this.
While some misguided elements are busy shouting Biafra, and claiming that South south is part of their Biafra, the southsouth have denounced the whole Biafra thing publicly and I understand that just last weekend, Nyesom Wike of River State, named a stadium in River State after Yakubu Gowon. Does that not tell you something?
The golden rule says 'DO UNTO OTHERS WHAT YOU WILL LIKE THEM TO DO UNTO YOU'..... Love begat love, hate begat hate. Don't expect love from others when you give them hatred, don't expect them to vote for your candidate when you keep calling them animals that live in the zoo.
"Give and it shall be given unto you" whatever you give to others is what they will give back to you GOOD MEASURES, PRESSED DOWN, SHAKING TOGETHER AND RUNNING OVER.
He who has ears let him hear, Wisdom is profitable to direct.... I rest my case...

Yorubas are so poor when it comes to impesonating igbo names, for the record there's no igbo name as "CHIKIEZE" When this offenmanus learn how to impesonate the great igbos, i will have something to say to them, until then.

However, the point of a landlocked Biafra hardly worries me, although I do not believe that Biafra is gonna be landlocked. At worst, we will be content with the Azumini Blue Sea and Oguta as our sea corridors to the world. Besides, we will have inland ports, such as Onitsha/Asaba.
Having said these, it's a common fact that prosperity doesn't come to countries because they are surrounded by seas. If it were so, Nigeria wouldn't be lying prostrate, visionless and chronically underdeveloped. Access to the sea hasn't changed the economic fortunes of Nigeria. Nigeria is a failed State.

The Ijaw virtually live in water, but they are the most pitiable in underdevelopment, at least in Southern Nigeria. Their access to sea has meant nothing much in terms of better life.

Somalia has the longest coastal line in Africa, but irrespective of that, Somalia remains a failed State.
The sea hasn't given any economic advantage to the Caribbean Islands, such as Jamaica.

Haiti is the poorest country in the Northern hemisphere, in spite of being chiefly a country with great access to the sea.
Ireland has no land borders with any country. It was so poor until recently...the seas did nothing to lift Ireland out of poverty and hopelessness.
There are 15 landlocked countries in Africa, 15 in Europe, 12 in Asia, and 2 in South America. They include: Botswana, Rwanda, Burundi, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Chad, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Malawi, Mali, Niger, Swaziland, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe; Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, Andorra, San Marino, Belarus, Czech Republic, Hungary, Liechtenstein, Moldova, Serbia, Slovakia, and Vatican City; Afghanistan, Bhutan, Laos, Nepal, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan; Bolivia and Paraguay.
Obviously, we've seen numerous countries that are, although landlocked, but have prospered much more than the ones surrounded by water. Examples are: Switzerland, Austria, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Hungary, Czech Republic, Botswana, Rwanda, Uganda. Interestingly, Botswana has consistently been the most progressive country in Africa. Consequently, the argument of being a landlocked country does not outweigh the need and desire of self-determination with the overall hope of attaining substantiated progressive and thriving economy. Biafra holds the promise that we all crave, God willing. Ideas, vision and strategic planning rule the world. Whether landlocked or not, any country can rise above mediocrity and be true to itself and its citizens and make its mark in the comity of nations.

Finally, the Igbo Nation needs to prepare effectively for the rainy day. As things are, Nigeria has no promise of being eternal. What if our Southern neighbours go their separate ways, we can't dissuade them because we dread being landlocked. Instead, we can emerge as the territory where everyone would say: I wish I was in Biafra! Let's keep an open mind because God moves in mysterious ways

What a lovely post u have here.
The issue of SE not been landlocked has been trashed here severely in the past hence, any igbo who still believe or buys such useless propaganda from indi ugwu and Yoruba is a new bi in this forum. We have gone past such silly tactic employed by the powers that be to keep the uniformed and fickle minded igbos on they kneels just to maintain statusqquo and keep them permanently in this hopeless zoo.
