What else can be more frustrating (apart from your sewing machine acting up ), than working with blunt scissors? Arrgh....I know that feeling, trust me. Here are SIX ways to sharpen your scissors in a jiffy: 1. Make use of aluminum foil. Fold the foil about 8 times and cut it out as strips with the blunt scissors. This helps to sharpen it. 2. Sandpaper! Who knew sandpaper could be a lifesaver? Fold and cut. Simple! 3. Steel wool sponge AKA Iron Sponge. Yep! We all got that at home 4. Glass jar. You know the type that comes with jam or mayonnaise? That's the very one. 5. Sewing pin. 6. Screwdriver. So, which of these are you giving a try? Picture Credit: Google

Did you know that the small strawberry attached to your Pin Cushion contains emery which can be used to sharpen your needles and pins? So if your pins and needles are not as pointy sharp as they should be, stick them into that strawberry and "swish" them around

A mentor once said, "The overall aim of learning is a change in behaviour". Don't be a knowledge junkie only, allow the good things you've learned reflect in your lifestyle.

I couldn't help but repost this beauty from @marchesafashion Petticoats have been used to add fullness/volume to skirts from time immemorial. A good petticoat adds volume without necessarily adding "weight". Petticoats help to create the illusion of a narrow waist and are designed for the dress they would be worn with. In other words, you can't wear one petticoat with different dresses. The silhouette has to be the same. Who else spotted the horsehair braid? I sure did! Horsehair helps to stiffen the petticoat thus retaining the desired structure.

Ever wondered how cutout necklines and designs "stick" to the body? Gape darts! Gape darts, also known as Contour darts are very important in pattern making. They are usually used to tighten necklines and armholes, bringing them closer to the body. The value of the gape dart depends on the location of the dart, as well as the size of the figure. That means, there is no one size fits all when it comes to gape darts. So whenever you're working on wide, deep or cutout necklines and designs, think gape darts! Picture Credit: @topfashiontv

Even the most successful businesses suffer setbacks. Case in point, the recent shutdown of Facebook, WhatsApp & Instagram. The bigger deal is bouncing back after the setback has occurred. I once did a UK course on Innovation and Enterprise and it amazed me to learn that failure should be embraced. You see, there would be no innovation if something was not lacking or failing. Failure can therefore be a springboard to success. Whether we like it or not, setbacks are a part of life. The following tips are designed to help you bounce back: • Acknowledge that a setback has occurred. Don't live in denial. • Stay calm. DO NOT PANIC. Panic robs you of creative thinking. The faster you are able to bounce back, the easier it is for you to maintain your competitive edge. • Don't crucify yourself or wallow in self-pity. Instead, embrace the setback as a learning moment. • Surround yourself with the right team, people who will help you focus and channel your energy towards bouncing back. • Get professional help, people whose job it is to FIX the problem. Think solution and not problem. • Finally, take preventative measures. Like Henry Ford said, "The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing". 1 Like

We all know that boning is used in Corsetry but do you know that boning can be used in diverse ways and in different sewing projects? Boning is basically used to provide structure to garments, helping it to maintain its shape. Boning can be used in the making of bags, purses, collars, hats, swimsuits, bras, petticoats, etc. There is no limit to the use of boning. So the next time you see a piece of boning, put it to very good use In other news, did you know that there is such a thing as a baby corset (Also known as Infant binder)? Well, now you know Picture Credit: The Cutting Class, Threads Magazine, Pinterest 2 Likes

We all know what Net is, but what is the difference between Net and Tulle? Tulle is lighter than net. It has much smaller holes and is a lot softer to the touch than net. Tulle is often used to add volume to clothes instead of net. Did you know that Tulle can be starched to give it more stiffness? Well, now you know Can you keep a secret? Tulle can also be used as an interfacing. Shhh... that's for your ears only Picture Credit: Google
